  • In this video I introduce you to the Normal distribution and the standardised normal distribution.
The Normal distribution is a continuous statistical distribution which is defined by a mean and variance. The standardised normal distribution is one with a mean of 0 and variance 1.

I have been trying to understand this for so long I genuinely thought I was going to go crazy, but thanks to this video I finally bloody get it!!!! Why can't uni teach it this way?!

I'm here for the same reason actually, I was stuck on what to do until I found this video. The maths teachers at our college told us not to bother with Maths anymore too so for the most part they're ignoring their emails.

Now I understand the formula and what the z value is it will be so much easier to remember and to do problem solving questions as until now I have been mindlessly plugging standard deviation and means into my lovely calculator for probabilities and panicking whenever given any other information and asked to find something else. Thank you so so much.

It is a known fact that is true for all types of normal distributions and I would suggest that you should aim to memorise this. It can be worked out from normal distribution tables which you will use at a later stage. (see my other videos)

This is the population standard deviation and I am not talking about calculating it. If I was calculating it from a sample then I would use the t distribution and use n-1. However, this is not what this video was aimed at talking about.

Thanks so much for your maths videos, I don't know what I would do without them! I'm just a bit confused by the video, at the start with the standard deviations, why is 3 standard deviations 99.8%? Is that just an example or something we need to know?

Your videos are really awesome! but, would you mind to help me to solve my mathematics problem? in few weeks I got an exams, and I have few questions normal distribution that I don't get it.
    1. The pineapples in a large warehouse have masses with a normal distribution. The mean of this distribution is 1.52 kg, and the standard deviation is 0.070 kg. Six randomly chosen pineapples are packed in a box of mass 2.15.
    * Find the probability the total mass of the filled box is less than 11.2 kg
    * Find the probability that , out of three randomly chosen filled boxes, at least 1 has total mass less than 11.2 kg
Would you mind to explain how to calculate all of them ? it would be really helpful to me. :) thanks a lot ! :):):)
