- Overview:
When worn well a white dinner jacket (never to be referred to as a white tuxedo) is a delightful and tasteful alternative to the more common black tuxedo. In other words, there is a right way and wrong way to wear a white dinner jacket.
In effort to ensure you fall into the former camp let's cover what some of the key do's and do nots of how to wear a white dinner jacket.
This video covers what makes a white dinner jacket, a brief history, when to wear one, notable examples (e.g., James Bond, Humphrey Bogart in Casablanca, etc.), as well as the right shoes, cufflinks, watches, and other accessories to wear with a white dinner jacket.

This was great! It gave be the confidence to order the Brooks Brothers White Dinner Jacket. Really like the videos and thanks again!
Justin has impeccable style. I really enjoy these videos.
Thank you for the ongoing support!
White dinner jacket with peaked lapels is made for a burgundy boutionnere. Shawl lapels, I’d say the pocket square does the business. A boutionnere with a shawl all looks a little close.
Great fit man well done
Justin, I really enjoyed this video but I wonder if you have done one on the black/navy tuxedo. Also, who makes your tuxedo shirt and do you have a set of matching cufflinks and shirt studs for it? I have a good collection of formal wear myself, but I’m hoping to add a tux shirt like yours so I can wear it for church functions (maybe a bit over the top, but my bishop loves how I dress as it is the best I have).
No loafers, but Prince Abert slippers are always good
Hi Justin, excellent explanation!, hoping you can help me with a doubt, I just bought a dinner jacket like this, however, I’m a little concern because is kind of see through at the beginning of the sleeves and the upper back, the fabric from within is kind of noticeable, is that normal? Was not a cheap jacket though
I could buy the loafers maybe, but black tie needs its own shirt, tux shirt.
Buttons should not be exposed if the dress code is black tie. It's studs or covered buttons . A watch, is not appropriate. Definitely not a watch with a date in the face!!!! Otherwise, you look ok. Maybe a press would help
This moho could play Bond. Dude's got game! #respect
The dinner jacket looks fantastic; while I appreciate the red pocket square, I would love to see yours in a red carnation boutonniere (like Indiana Jones in 'ToD').
Also, question: would wearing a white dinner jacket with a matching waistcoat defeat the purpose of a white dinner jacket (i.e., to alleviate a hotter climate)?
First time on your channel hopefully it won't be the last God Bless
As soon as I saw this guy wearing a white buttoned placket dress shirt with his white dinner jacket I knew he was clueless !
Can the tuxedo pant be midnight blue?
The waistcoat takes care of it
I wear a white dinner suit either with my military medals and top hat or homborg hat
Top hats are for white tie/tails. Homburg correct but may be to hot occasions where you wear a ivory jacket. Straw hats can be worn outdoors
would it be a big faux pas to wear this as a groom for a winter wedding?
Talk to your bride. Usually these white jackets are better suited for warm weather, but if that’s the look you want it’s your wedding and you should do what you want. Your wife to be might have opinions on you wearing white though since a lot of brides don’t want anyone in white if they aren’t the bride themselves, so again talk to her
@@bendeacon6994 She is all for it it was more a concern about time of year / renting. I dont know if I want to buy a white dinner jacket as ill probably never wear it again. If I just go black suit I could buy it and get more use out of it. Decisions decisions
@@hurpaderpp I'm also getting married this year, but in the fall and here's how I look at it: Your wedding photos are going to be around for the rest of your life and if you have kids and grandkids they'll probably see them. Better to buy something you really like and get it fitted than to rent something and have the potential of facing issues (although my groomsmen are renting, I bought a cheap tuxedo that fits me well). If you really have your heart set on a specific thing, your wedding might be the one case where versatility doesn't really matter because even if you do buy something more versatile, you'll probably be a little hesitant to wear it after your wedding because of its sentimental value and fear or ruining it.
What if your trousers are high waisted? Still need a cumberbund?
You plan on keeping the jacket buttoned all the time? If no, then wear a cummerbund
French cuff toxedo wing collar shirt i presume
No wing collar, regular collar
No waistcoat, it's hot out if you are wearing ivory jacket. Cummerbund
Sports Watch with a tux?
No
Ivory, not white
