It's fencing - which is particularly well-suited to a lightsaber as it involves lightweight, deliberate motions and not unnecessarily expending your stamina. It brilliantly utilizes your weapon's reach to maintain a defensive distance, however it demands high environmental awareness as to one's position and footing to successfuly evade and counter. Not a form for the novice or inexperienced.
I fence since makashi is based on it I expected to be able to point out a lot of mistakes, but actually well done, only thing wrong is you should always move your arm before your foot when attacking and keep blade and forearm lined up.
Beautiful elegant form but I always felt it’s biggest weakness was those who do not follow proper swordsmanship and fight dirty, which doesn’t seem to defend against
Dooku somewhat fought like he was wielding a Renaissance rapier, but the basic attacks & defenses can be used in a fashion similar to HEMA style fighting, using swords from the High Middle Ages.
Lightsabers theoretically have a thing where they're omnidirectional, so their blades are making contact in many angles, which causes them not to slip against one another when clashing.
Nate Mate an obvious example is when anakin used two to decapitate Dooku. There are also moments in fights that they appear to not slide but that’s more of a lack of consistency than anything
CTRL ALT DEL when they slid they made an ear splitting noise, and Anakin had a protest Eric limb. It may be more difficult depending. On how the opponent is fighting.
As Im practicing this move, I feel that while I have the advantage of precision, particularly with the confined box defensive moves and the precise attack directions, theres a bit of vulnerability to the user of this form. What I mean by this relates with the lore, in which Form 2 was designed in a way that allowed users to counter enemies that showed more errors or deficiencies in their attacks. Its power came from how, at the forms core, the user was both physiological and mentally in a balanced position, perfect for defeating Sith and Jedi who showed the slightest impatience or imbalance in their focus. However, the vulnerabilities of this form come when your fighting either an enemy who not only might have a more aggressive fighting form, but is able to concentrate all their aggression without making those feelings slip. So what I think happens is that Form 2 users are basically on a trip rope when in combat and they're performing a balancing act. So when they see an enemy, Form 2 users are either A) end that opponents career due to an error, or B) either stumble upon an equally skilled fighter using either the same or different form. If the later is true, the Form 2 user will realize that they are now being pushed off the trip rope, and the way the battle ends is if the Form 2 user faces the risk of dismemberment (not IRL), retreats from the scene, or perhaps somehow winning the fight either due to changes in the setting or opponent. This is why Anakin Skywalker defeated Dooku on the Invisible Hand, as that was a moment where Anakin's aggression after seeing an injured Obi Wan was focused enough to push Dooku off that rope. Of course their was the force aiding in that fight, but considering the spacing of the wizard tower interior and the uneven angles that Dooku would see himself fighting on, I bet Anakin could have won due to him being focused and angry. So overall, I would say that this move is good for sporting at best, just like its influence, Fencing. In actual combat, your basically an opportunist, as you can pick off clumsier opponents and have elegant/beautiful fighting moves at the same time. Against opponents with more self control, focus, and either similar or different attack forms, your looking at an eventual retreat or death sentence, or at least an attritional battle in general
I have fenced for years now. A faster paced version of this plus some more fencing theory to it should look like a proper fencing match. With the way i pick up and swing my lightsaber around, i really find my moves strongly resembling form 2 with some defensive zone control and flourishes from form 3.
So I like this form and all, and I’ve been using it for years, but the main problems with it as a lightsaber technique is that anyone with just an ounce more strength than you could easily knock you off guard and counter attack. Another is that the hand itself is so vulnerable without cross guards. All in all this form is best used when fighting another form 2.
So they issue is your trying to out strength an opponent with a form designed around parry and repost, not blocking. While there are a few blocks in historical fencing, the primary form of defense is parrying. Using your blade and the opponents momentum to create openings to capatalize on. "But what if they go to strike your blade or block your attacks? That's where they foot work comes into play. The Fencing stance is desinged to keep the body weight centered and have the upper body stationary as the lower body moves (think of it as a tank in the desert, the turret stays still and on target, while the treads bounce up and all around). You maneuver the blade with small percise wrist motions while retreating just enough with the footwork, so that you can be safe but without opening up to much distance. As a Fencer and a Practioners of HEMA and Kenjutsu, I find that people have a harder time dealing with the small, percise, and quick movements of fencing the most. Unless your up against another Fencer, then its easy to mix it up and throw them off. Basically making sure you don't become to ridgid in one discipline and making sure you spar with others outside of your normal style.
Yeah even tho I don’t actively bother to learn a certain combat form when I duel I often use techniques that I found in this video so I guess I use form 2

This music sounds like it would be in wizard101, but I don't think I ever heard it. I mean my account was hacked months ago, but I had my account for 10 years.
So I'm trying to self teach myself form 2. Anyone have any tips or any supplementary material? And if possible, could I get some help creating a couple sequences (like Low Attack L is 1, Low Attack R is 2, and so on so forth until the Back Block being 14) to try learning (I learn things easier if they have a bit of randomness)
I can see why dooku was getting pressed by anakin. Makashi is very fast, swift and accurate while form 5 focuses alot of heavy blows which can break form 2's defences.

Double the pride twice the fall
I shall use this form well, my lord's.
This and form V(both variants) are my favorite.
Add some form IV footwork and you will be Darth Boyka, the most complete lightsaber duelist in the world.
Now i think about it, this form is eerily simillar to fencing
You have embraced count dooku
Count Dooku’s form
For me,Maaksahi is the BEST lightsaber form.Maybe its not so powerful, but it soooo glamour and ... One hand battle is very good for me.I dont spent too much power.Also.Maakashi looks very nice, like FENCING....Maybe i just like cool mooves or fencing, idk.
One hand for striking, one hand for -using force push- frying your school bully with lightning
@@carmundo4476 Yes,thats too goot,)👌👌👌
With the way i pick up and swing my lightsaber around, i really find my moves strongly resembling form 2 with some defensive zone control and flourishes from form 3.
So ... standard variations of Meyer techniques with a sword with leds.
Marc-Andre Levesque Yus
Thats why I'd choose Makashi since i have a HEMA background.
This is more similar to late 19th century saber fencing than Meyer, Meyer has more passing steps and less lunges.
So I like this form and all, and I’ve been using it for years, but the main problems with it as a lightsaber technique is that anyone with just an ounce more strength than you could easily knock you off guard and counter attack. Another is that the hand itself is so vulnerable without cross guards. All in all this form is best used when fighting another form 2.
count dooku must be veeeeeery lucky then.
Carmundo Hood well he uses the force to help him out and he likes to spam lightning.
@@craftergamer9058 yea
Now look at Rey’s fighting style, no motion to it at all. This is easily my favorite fighting style in star wars.
I deliberately searched this up and then realized how much of a nerd I am
Yeah even tho I don’t actively bother to learn a certain combat form when I duel I often use techniques that I found in this video so I guess I use form 2
Twice the price, double the fall
As a fencer, I applaud
I've been trained in your Jedi arts by Count Dooku.
I remember when I was 6 or 7 I would use sticks to train, because my parents were not that into buying toys for me,so maybe I still have a couple of moves.
Correct me if I’m wrong but I believe this could compliment sorosu very well as sorosu focuses on defense and this form the economy of your attacks
Най-доброто макаши
This is a good form in case one of your hands get chopped off.
If i have a chance, i would want to make a lightsaber that specializes in both form 2 and form 3 as i prefer using those 2 forms
Can’t wait for dookus saber in Vader immortal
This music sounds like it would be in wizard101, but I don't think I ever heard it. I mean my account was hacked months ago, but I had my account for 10 years.
So I'm trying to self teach myself form 2. Anyone have any tips or any supplementary material?
And if possible, could I get some help creating a couple sequences (like Low Attack L is 1, Low Attack R is 2, and so on so forth until the Back Block being 14) to try learning (I learn things easier if they have a bit of randomness)
The best form for when you want to fight like that one snobby character in every fighting game.
"I think that enemy got...THE POINT!"
*ohmygod it's literally just sabre fencing*
As someone who is still pravticing shii cho. I dont even know that this form is so similar.
I can see why dooku was getting pressed by anakin. Makashi is very fast, swift and accurate while form 5 focuses alot of heavy blows which can break form 2's defences.
Where do you get lightsabers like this? All the blue guardian sabers i've seen all look so dark when lit up, that looks so bright!
So hutton... without the guard
Lollipops, otherwise known as cavities on a stick
Add a battery backpack to some of your light saber so they look like old like saber design.
Im training for a duel with my friend im going to learn each of the 7 forms and use them all at once
I never realized Vader was a masaki user
So I’ve been doing form 2 without any training nice
You gotta get that curved hilt to make it easier to use
Muy bien Video, de verdad me ha servido mucho. muchas gracias.
PD: SEeria Estupendo y muy util si Pudieras hacer estos videos con una traduccion al Español
I’d love to learn form IV
Iam trying to learn Form 2 and Form 5 and combing them so thx
That lunge tell you everything.
Will you make videos about all the forms?
