Hi, thanks. A bit of advice when you build one, glue the rear fenders on first before spraying. Iff you spray the rear fenders first and then glue them on, the glue attacks the paint and can be a pain to stick and ends up creating a mess. So glue them on first, then spray together with the main shell. I don't build them anymore, but that's not to say I wont in the future. If Tamiya release something special, like an 80's re-release I could be tempted. I do still have a collection though.
Just bought myself the same car. Have painted the interior now and am pleased with the results. I’ve also started with the body and so far so good, the black parts scares me to paint free hand however with semi-dried black paint applied and a lot of masking it looks alright (almost as good as yours) question: the decals looks quite glossy, did you apply a transparent coating on top?
Hi Rick. No coating was applied to the decals, they were just cut and fit. I also found the black parts awkward to paint, especially the window surrounds. I thought painting a straight line was easy, not so.
ChrisT ok, It looks absolutely amazing, I might just share mine once it’s done also :) I went with blue helmets not “time period accurate” but it was easier to cover the black line round the face
ChrisT entering into uncharted territory now: connecting the RC, servo and ecs, first time I’m building an rc. Any tips for a rookie? Also how did you connect the lights? Just bought killerbody 12 led kit, should work fine :)
@@rickjohansson3202 The servo etc is pretty straight forward, plug n play. The ESC plugs into channel 2 and the servo into channel one on the receiver. The important thing is to centralize the servo before fitting the horn as per instructions. You may find that when the ESC and motor is connected up that the car drives in reverse when pushing forward on the transmitter, this is normal and can be changed by either the reverse switch on the transmitter or by swapping the motor wires around. As for the killerbody LED kit, it should come with some splitter cables? Your servo and ESC will plug into these, again as per instructions. The splitter cables will then plug into channel 1 and 2 on the receiver. The only thing you need to pay attention to is plugging in the LED's on the LED unit, ensuring that the white, red and orange LED's are in the correct ports otherwise when you turn left or right on the transmitter the white LED's will flash, ideally you want the orange LED's to flash. Then it's just a matter of fitting the orange LED's to the correct side of the bodyshell, obviousley the left hand turn orange LED's to the left hand side of the shell.
Brilliant job - that bodyshell and interior is a masterpiece ! Not surprised it took thee weeks . A lovely machine. How difficult was it applying those stickers on the front wings - Getting them perfect and flat around the curves ? I wouldn't mind buying this kit but some of those stickers scare the hell out of me.
Thanks for the kind comments. The cockpit set was an on and off job, painting bits and letting it dry for the next color. The decals on the front wings are in 2 peices, one lays on top of the bonnet close to the wing, the other lays across the top of the wing. I cut both of them out first and did a dry fit positioning them with the backing get still attached. Then once happy started with the wing decal closest to the door. Peel back a small amount of backing paper and position. Then work towards the front of the body. As there are 2 decals, they don't have to go round too much of a curve. There was some trimming to do once wrapped around the headlights.
It was very simple. I drilled the back of the light buckets with a 3mm bit. Then place the led's in and glued them. I had to drill additional holes in the front of the body to pass the wires through, this can be seen in the video. The light controller is a tamiya tlu-01 which plugs straight into the nimh battery. The light controller is stuck to the underside of the body under the bonnet.
Lovely build Chris 👍
Thanks Gav. The chassis is pretty straight forward, most of the work goes into the shell.
Great build, looks fantastic, going to be my next one. Do you not do them any more ?

@@toppertopp thanks for tips, what glue did you use fella
@@col72 Just Tamiya cement glue, any cement glue will do though.
In your opinion what was tamiya's most well thought out car for functionalities?
I'm not sure I'm seasoned enough to awnser that lol but IMO the early nineties were very good.
Great job mate. Looks perfect : )
Thanks. Body took a while, over a period of 3 weeks but well worth it.
Nice masterpiece!👍
Thanks. Took a while to do all the details but we'll worth it.

ChrisT Thanks for the Swift reply and info. It doesn't sound too daunting the way you explained things. Cheers.
😊👍nice!
