Thanks a lot Judy! Yes, the Sunday Angelus is a bit easier than the Papal Audience. It's free and it's easy. Thanks for your kind compliments!

Hi! so glad i found your channel. I love all things Rome and enjoy and appreciate every tip i can get for when visiting Rome. Every time i go i love seeing new things. I have a question, does the Pope give the Angelus every Sunday? i have hears it is only once a month. Thank you.
Hello Krisia and thanks so much for following my UA-cam channel! Please come over and visit the website for more details, including on how to see the Pope (yes, he gives the Angelus every Sunday when he is in Rome, unless it's a holiday.)

Hope that helps! - Elyssa
Hi Elyssa - great and helpful video, as always! I’m planning to head to the Angelus this Sunday. What would you recommend is the best time to get there to get through security given the crowd levels in Rome?
Thank you! Believe it or not, on Sunday mornings, for some reason, the security lines are not as bad. I am not sure why. Maybe it's because they set up more of them. I would suggest getting there at 10:30 to make sure you have enough time to find the entrance to the security along the Colonnade, go through security, and then if you have enough time, you can head inside the basilica and visit it before the Pope gives the Angelus at 12. You can also go inside the Basilica after the Angelus.
I hope you have a wonderful time at the Angelus at the Vatican!
Great to hear, thank you Elyssa!
@@chriss2766 My pleasure!
Would you still recommend this? I plan on being in Rome for a Sunday Angelus in early June, and would love to arrive at St Peter's Square around 09:45 to do a visit to the basilica beforehand if I can beat a long queue!
Yes most definitely I recommend it! You may even find that the lines are actually shorter on Sunday morning - I think it's because they have more of them, and they are set up all along the Colonnade as opposed to inside the square. I wish you a wonderful visit!
@@Romewise Thank you!
Question. Is the dome open on Sundays and available to climb? I was planing to arrive early on Sunday visit the basilica and climb the dome before the pope's Angelus. Is it possible of not?
Yes, the dome is open daily. You most certainly can visit the basilica and climb the dome first and then attend the Angelus at noon (if you want.)
Wow
Thank you!
What time would you recommend getting to the Vatican Museums on the free Sunday? I'll be there the last Sunday of this month and would love to take advantage of going possibly before the Angelus.
I usually don't recommend visiting the Vatican Museums on the Free Sunday as it's pretty jam-packed. But if you want to go, get there by no later than 8am, even 7:30. The museums open at 8:30am. You should get in by around 9am and have two hours to see the museums, and time to make it to the square for noon.
Now, you can book a guided tour through the museums on the Vatican Museums website. It will be a large group but the advantage of it is it is the only way to "skip the line" on the free Sunday. Also, you will be able to take the shortcut into Saint Peter's basilica, which you can no longer do without being on a tour. And the tour via the Vatican Website is very affordable.
Enjoy!
RomeWise Thank you for the response! It would be the only day we’d be able to go. I checked the website and it said they don’t allow any tour groups or scheduled tours on the free Sunday. We are staying at Relais Vatican View, I have Stage 4 Breast cancer and this is my bucket list trip, so it may be my only chance to go, so we’ll plan on 7:30 :)
Thanks again!
Dear Victoria, thank you for sharing with me your situation. I hope and pray for all the best for you. For the Free Sunday, you CAN book a tour via the Vatican museums website. However, it is indeed sold out for this month.
Go at 7:30. I hope you have a wonderful wonderful visit. Very best wishes - Elyssa
So you recommend the Angelus over the Audience?
It's hard to compare the two, except that in both cases, you get to see the Pope and both are free.
With the Angelus, it's really easy and quite quick (15-20 minutes tops.)
With the audience, it's a bit more involved as you need tickets, and then need to spend your whole morning there. So it can depend on how much time you have.
Also with the audience, you have a better chance of seeing him closer up, as he rides around and through the crowd.
Both are special experiences. It comes down to what you have time for and which days of the week you are in Rome (his schedule and yours.)
@@Romewise Oh, I thought for the audience you can just show up. Where do you get tickets then? They were selling "tours" for it online for 35 bucks. If you have to stay the whole time there then probably not. If I did it, I was just gonna stay for a few minutes then go sight seeing. So maybe the Angelus. I'm staying only one minute from the Vatican so I figured I might as well. I'll probably just watch from outside the square if you have to go through security. I was gonna visit the Vatican my first day anyways. How do you purchase the combo ticket for the Gardens and Museum? I didn't know you had to pay for the gardens and go with a guide. If I'm gonna be there I might as well see everything though. I was looking at it on Google Earth and saw nothing but walls and barricades, and I literally had to Google how to enter the place. I genuinely thought you could just walk in from Italy and explore.
Maybe you can help me with something else. Why does it say, "Reservation Required" for Collesseum and Sistine Chapel? How do you make a "reservation" and what exactly are you reserving? My schedule is subject to change, but I will if I have to, though I'd rather not do it for a particular time slot as it's gonna take me a while to get oriented. Speaking of which, where do you buy tickets for the metro/tram/busses?
If the Pope peeks his head out, it means 3 more weeks of winter!
:)
The pope will appear at the window not ''come out'' of the window lol
Yes of course, I think I was transliterating from Italian!! 😂😂😂 - "Esce dalla finestra"...
