- The official Warrior Cats family tree has made what I believe to be a mistake, and it had people debating. In my opinion, Frecklewish is most certainly not Dark Forest material. Here are my reasons why.

Yep, another thing that has been shown is that there’s no reasoning with Mapleshade…. Like you say she a cat who shift blame on other cats just to clear her own guilt, she’s also very selfish and manipulative before the whole kits thing happen

She is the most selfless person EVER before what happened to her kits, she did feel bad about lying, and she never did say they Were BirchFall's. FreckleWish assumed that they were BirchFall's even though MapleShade was never even remotely romantically interested in him. She went along with them being Birchfall's so that her kits could live a good life, and she planned on coming out later. She even though that StarClan was sending FreckleWish to keep her kits safe.

Considering on how Starclan let Ashfur in for "loving too much" and Hawkfrost in the darkforest due to his relation to Tigerstar.
At this point im just waiting for Ivypool and Breezepelt to be in the dark forest for similar reasons Hawkfrost was. Its clear that Starclan's judgements are just BS im general.
TBF, Hawkfrost helped Mudclaw form a coup and only did so with the intent to take over the forest, tried to make Bramblestar murder Firestar, and abused his sister. He did more than just be related to Tigerstar, lmao

If Hawkfrost wasn't related to Tigerstar he probably would be in Starclan, after all Mudclaw is in Starclan. Just from the logic of Starclan Hawkfrost didn't do enough to be in the dark forrest. I agree with you he did bad things but not comparable to some of the other cats. That being said Hawkfrost may have showed no remose for his actions and even wanted to go to the dark Forrest so maybe he could have gotten on Starclan is he pretended to be remorseful idk. Anyway the problem is Starclan being super inconsistent and their descions making no sense. Remember they let Rainflower in Starclan...It just makes no sense. It never will.
the family tree is awfully messy anyway, they call hollyleaf and fallen leaves mates even though they were never confirmed to be mates. the only good thing abt this is that frecklewish is getting more well deserved attention LOL
Something that I noticed that ever since everyone noticed that Frecklewish was in the dark forest, which I call it a retcon and I want to believe it was a retcon, many people started to give Frecklewish attention and that people who liked Mapleshade (one of them being me) started to come forward and admit they do like Frecklewish
Im pretty sure i read somewhere that Fallen Leaves and Hollyleaf promised that when they met in starclan, they would become mates, and since Hollyleaf died and went to starclan, im sure they became mates and it wouldn't be considered forbidden romance at all because they were both dead
I believe that freckle wish felt a great guilt knowing that she had watched the kits as they drowed (though she didn't see them die) so once she went to star clan she couldn't shake off the feeling it was her fault so she requested she go to the dark forest for not "saving" the kits star clan agreed (because come on its star clan we are talking about of course there gonna do something dumb) so off she went to be "punished" (in my opinion frecklewish is a good cat)

I honestly hate how people in the community just go along with what other people believe in, and completely ignore the actual evidence of a cats whole character and story. They ether never read the book in the first place, or watched a bunch of MAPS, but most likely both. As someone who loves the novella; MapleShades Vengeance, reading it I felt bad for all the cats MapleShade killed, especially FeckleWish. Not only is she wronged by MapleShade and dies for it, but if she’s really in the dark forest, think about how sad she must of felt, all she wanted was to be with her only brother again and she was sent somewhere were it’s far away from him. And meeting the cat the killed a few moments ago, is just terrible. FreckleWish does not deserve to be there at all

FreckleWish DID NOT, I repeat DID NOT know that the kits died until MapleShade said so!! NettlePaw tells MapleShade about FeckleWish watching them, but assumes that she’s wanted them to die, when one, I already said she DID NOT know about them dying until MapleShade said so. Two, when NettlePaw says that FreckleWish told everyone that they fell off the stepping stones. She THOUGHT they would be saved by RiverClan because she can’t swim ( being a ThunderClan cat ) and she saw the riverclan cats that would AND DID help her. She DID NOT know that the kits drowned.
While MapleShade might of not told everyone he was the father, the only male cat the recently died was Birchfall. And you could bring up the argument that she could of said that she broke up with the father ( even tho that would be un likely because ITS LITERALLY IN THE TEXT ) raven wing was going to find out anyways later with the omen about the kits. So was there any point in telling everyone brich fall was the father? Nope.
I would suggest next time read the actual text in the book that states everything and not just assume everything

Thank you! I'm glad somebody agrees it was simply a mistake. I don't believe if they wanted to make anybody from Mapleshade's vengeance (aside from Mapleshade herself) it would have been frecklewish. Although if we take into consideration that it wasn't a mistake, it all depends on if Frecklewish did do what she did in a moment of shock and grief (but you can also argue Mapleshade's decision of crossing the river can be pointed to her being in shock and a deteriorated mental state. I wouldn't expect her to be thinking clearly. I would expect her to be desperate. (This does not apply to her murders, only the river crossing.), or whether she does not regret what she did.
Although I digress, I'm still sure it was simply a mistake. If anybody deserves the dark forest, it's Oakstar.

Mapleshade and frecklewhisker both just don't deserve to be in the dark forest. Bluestar was way worse like hoe does bluestar who made one big mess in her clan go to starclan but frecklewhisker doesn't who just feels betrayed and really didn't do much else. And like wasn't Mapleshade trying to free her kits or something? I always found it weird that starclan (I this case the kits) wanted Mapleshade to kill those who betrayed them but starclan send Mapleshade to the dark forest bc of it

The 'Frecklewish attacks Mapleshade' argument makes no sense for another reason. Cats in ThunderClan have attacked their own clanmates before and ended up in StarClan. For example, Swiftbreeze attacked Goosefeather after Moonflower died in Bluestar's Prophecy.
I think Greystripe even attacked Firestar at one point...I don't recall why but I believe they were both part of Thunderclan at that point. I might be misremebering tho
@@finnsnow2495 He attacked him because he was mad Fireheart was uncomfortable and wary of him meeting Silverstream. That’s one of the reasons I dislike Greystripe. Refused to attack him when in Riverclan but had no problem doing so when they were in the same clan. Sorry… getting off track

As someone who loves the novella, as someone who sympathizes with Mapleshade and understands why she did what she did, Frecklewish is COMPLETELY INNOCENT. Mapleshade targeted her because of a MISUNDERSTANDING. She does not belong in the dark forest and I find it absolutely appalling.
She broke the warrior code. She allowed 3 kits to leave not caring. And called them half-clan creatures and agree to have them leave

2, she had NO SAY in the kits being exiled. Remember that disgusting part of the warrior code that says leaders must not be questioned? She didn’t have a choice.

As a fellow Mapleshade Stan, Frecklewish was completely innocent in every way possible, she was killed due to a misunderstanding.
Exactly. She definitely should have at least tried to help. (Maybe try doing what appledusk did and push a stick out for them to grab onto) but that situation hardly justified sticking her in the dark forest. Especially if oakstar got off scot free.

its also noteworthy that the warrior cats family tree is. Bad. like its Terrible. scourge and his siblings used to be marked down as riverclan cats, currently it only lists FOUR cats if you filter by riverclan which. i havent checked the allegiances for TBC but i am almost 100% sure thats not right, the Only cats who show up if you filter by windclan are crowfeathers family, etc etc. its just a really bad source and the fact that the wiki uses it as a source for afterlife residences is. strange. if im real
edit: the family tree also says that mothwing, tawnypelt, tigerdove and their kids are the only currently living shadowclan cats which. once again not a tbc expert. but 100% sure thats wrong
aside from the content itself, it's also structured horribly. I hate having to drag myself across the entire screen to see it. I wish they let you see subsections, like the line of a specific cat. For example, I want to see everyone related to Firestar. You could minimize the family tree and just show the relevant cats.

I hate how 2 and 3 were only that frecklewish wanted or watched, she'd never did it, and if you base Freckles moral on what they wanted when she never did break any rules. Than I guess?? Still thought much more cats have done worse and still go to starclan. Either way Freckle-wish deserves better.

Let's not forget if you were the child of a Clan Leader at this time, you were treated highly and live a privileged life more than any other cat in the Clan, you were basically either treated like a deputy or a secondary leader, so you have more say than anyone else in the Clan. I think they stopped with this privileged line when Raggedstar died after privileging Brokentail so much
I like the Headcanon that she did go to starclan, but Mapleshade dragged her into the Dark forest and did something to make her a dark forest cat. That's the only reasonable way this could be canon. It could have happened when Ashfur trapped starclan, which would be the only time mapleshade would be in close enough contact to do so.
Sometimes, I think that Mapleshade chased her out of the dark forest, like Maple was angry that she has to spend eternity with her, so she decided, “You know what, I’m gonna chase her out.”

Unpopular opinion I think-
I think that cats should be allowed relationships from other clans to stop inbreeding and stuff- I know there will be some issues with that- but it would also prevent a lot of bad drama and evil cats in the clans. Like when the cats reach their age they can go to a Clan and choose a mate- and they decide which clan to be loyal to for the rest of their life.

I can't remember which cat it was, but one clan cat was sentenced to the dark forest because... She hated her leg injury. Yes that was the author's reasoning.

I did not know that Frecklewish wasn’t a Dark Forest cat… That is so sad that I did all that drawing of Frecklewish in the dark forest. I don’t think that she would belong their. I am so glad I saw this because I was confused… Also Firepaw attacked Graypaw in the first series of warrior cat books. And within reason they are very good and important cats. She did neglect the kits calling them half clan creatures. If I was a cat and saw kit’s drowning I would be terrified and not knowing what to do. She should have dove in instead of standing there awestruck. She doesn’t deserve it.
On the point of her possibly breaking the code from attacking mapleshade in camp, even setting aside your explanation, in the first arc graystripe and fireheart actually got into a scuffle that was nastier than what happened between freckle and maple, so that’s another reason why that goes straight out the window!
Appledusk call the killing of Frecklewish an accident, if we decide to beleive, or at least not distrust Frecklewish defense, I beleive it's fair to do the same with Appledusk. So, we can only say the one deserving of ending up in the dark forest here is Oakstar.
Honestly, even if Freckleswish DID knowingly watch the kits die, I till don't think it's a fair enough renough to send her there. She was such in a bad mental state after the reveal, and after everything she's done for Mapleshade, she might've done it because she was blinded by anger but would've immensely regreted it afterwards (would Maplehade not have killed her).
And I say this hating Frecklewish. Like. I couldn't stand her reading the novella xD

I mean it was a storm; meaning flash flood. Only Riverclan cats could basically survive. So aside from self-preservation Frecklewish was _also_ likely in shock. Think about it, she had such high emotions and grief regarding the death of two cats who died in the river. That sight could easily have put her into a PTSD shock watching something traumatic that ended the life of other beloved cats in her life.
We do know from the mouth of the medicine cat- that Frecklewish did tell the unfortunate event to them. As it was something to be grieved for.
the only logical way she would be in the dark forest is If Oakstar yeeted her into it so he could take her place in Starclan
Exiling kits does put them in danger btw, a mother taking care of kits is vulnerable and may not be able to find a safe place to stay or enough food.
In mapleshade’s case, it would’ve been smarter if she went to two leg place and maybe became a temporary kitty pet.

Something told me that you were going to make this video, and k feel like you are correct, I feel like Frecklewish being in the dark forest could be easily a retcon since it’s not the first time someone put a cat in the dark forest for reasons that made no sense, this examples being Lilywhisker and Brightflower who for some reason were in the dark forest at some point but later were in StarClan saying that them being in the dark forest was a retcon
Weren't some of the "kit-protective" parts of the Warrior Code only added AFTER Mapleshade's kits died? #12 in particular, i thought, was added after/during Mapleshade's Vengence.
I thought the entire code was made around the time of DOTC
Some of it was, but it was also "to be added upon and change as the clans' needs shift" in case problems came up in future generations.. as, in Mapleshade's "Era", it did.
I have Code of the Clans, RiverClan's leader at the time was named Ivystar, I have no idea if that helps

If I remember correctly, Juniperclaw redeemed himself by saving Shadowkit/sight from drowning.

There are so many Mapleshade apologists and it’s kind of concerning. I know it’s a kids series about feral cats in a war cult but these situations and characters can be translated to real life people. These people (mostly kids) just think vengeance murder is okay.
As someone often called an apologist even though I’m NOT, Frecklewish was completely innocent and deserved none of this. She was a hurt cat, her best friend and the cat whom she had helped to raise kits had been revealed to have lied, her actions can not be taken as evil nor malicious.

I like to headcanon it that frecklewishes brother would’ve somehow known deep down they weren’t his kits (prolly bc he and mapleshade hadn’t yknow) but he would’ve loved them anyways his kits or notand adopted them and played along, So when the kits died he blamed frecklewish and the others reactions But since the others either were leaders, medicine cats, or not in his clan the only vote he was able to sway was frecklewish and that’s why she was sent to the dark forest.
I really love hedcanon about Birchface taking care of the kittens in Starclan (I even use this theme in my fanfic), but I don't think Birchface wanted Frecklewish to go to the Dark Forest... Because the death of kittens was not her fault, there is no reason for Birchface thoughting Frecklewish was reason of kids death.

I have an idea why she may not be in StarClan, she asked to go there but she can go back to StarClan whenever so why she was never seen in the battle is just she decided to hide out in the dark forest to see Mapleshade and didn't know about the battle (or she was watching Mapleshade's kits) so she can spend time with her family. I really hope this is close to the reason and they did not just throw her into the dark forest without reading Mapleshade's vengeance.

I wish there was a middle ground. Not starclan or dark forest and not whatever is going on currently(I haven't read anything after bramblestars storm except dovewings silence but I know something funky is happening) for the infractions like frecklewish's.
@@catandrobbyflores I've always liked the idea of a kitty purgatory. Before the newest arc, my headcannon was that Ashfur went to purgatory and was forced to admit his guilt to get into StarClan. It would've made an awesome novella... Some other candidates are Mudclaw, the leaders who chased SkyClan away, and Juniperclaw.

1. I think Oakstar invented that because BirchFace was his son, and he was angry and bitter with grief. This is much like Greystripe and WhiteClaw in the first ark, and how Leopard(fur?) blaming Greystripe for his death.
2. Flowerpaw went in the water to save her mentor, that wasn’t AppleDusk’s doing.
3. It is pretty understandable for ThunderClan to blame AppleDusk, and RiverClan would blame ThunderClan if one of their warriors drowned.
NOT saying I like AppleDusk, I don’t, but I don’t think he murdered BirchFace. (Correct me if it says anywhere that he actually did kill them, because I haven’t seen it.)
Oakstar is the cat who should have gone to the DF, not Freckle and not Apple.

While I understand that Fecklewish isn’t 100% innocent, but here’s the thing, Why did Starclan allow far worst characters, *Cough* Ashfur *Cough* *Cough* but not her for having a high emotional out burst, and for not knowing an/Or not being able to save the kits?
The only cats in Mapleshade's vengeance that belong in the dark forest are Mapleshade herself, Oakstar(not just for exiling Maple and the kits, but also for the raids on twoleg place), and Appledusk.

Thank you for clearing this up, I never read Mapleshade’s Vengeance so when I saw stuff about Frecklewish being in the Dark Forest I was extremely confused because from what I’d heard she was morally good.
Yeah, no matter how much I hate Frecklewish, I'm glad this was confirmed because this can or have confused by this. But Mapleshade is my girl, and I can totally agree that Frecklewish is NOT a Dark Forest cat, or she and Mapleshade would probably be fighting all the time.

Mapleshade is obv evil now but I think it was an a-hole move of them to send a sign to a medicine cat so they could kick out a mother with *young* kits. Even if the kits weren't in danger then, exiling them of course would put them in danger. I still think exile is too harsh of a punishment for mixed clan relationships even at the time period they were in. Perhaps if Mapleshade didn't say it was Birchface and/or Appledusk wasn't the father, they may have been more forgiving. I think emotion really clouded their judgement when they decided to exile the kits along with her. At the very least they should have waited until they were old enough to be apprenticed. How unfair of StarClan to do that in Mapleshade's situation but not in the situation of Bluestar or Leafpool.
I think Mapleshade was definitely also blinded by emotion. It's only an explanation and definitely not an excuse for all the murder and torment she inflicted on ThunderClan and RiverClan. I guess some big factors in saving Bluestar's and Leafpool's asses were prophecies and medicine cat duties as well as being the daughter of Firestar in Leafpool's case, but I still think Mapleshade got dumped on by StarClan and could have turned out a whole lot better if she was treated the way the other two she-cats were treated. I sometimes wonder if the only reason they got off was because of how Mapleshade turned out.
(TLDR; I think it's bs that Mapleshade + kits were exiled but not Leafpool + kits or Bluestar, but maybe StarClan saw the results of Mapleshade's exile and decided not to out of fear of Bluestar or Leafpool turning out a similar way.)
The Warrior Cats website addressed Frecklewish's placement in the Dark Forest, and explained that she was sent there because she was "careless with the lives of kits because she is angry, and she assumes that someone else will take the responsibility of trying to save them

For all we know, Birchface and maybe even Appledusk were behind her trial. It's heavily implied that Birchface was in love with Mapleshade, so he may have thrown his sister out of Starclan due to her actions against his crush. As for Appledusk.. he died before she did, as she died a couple days after the bite, so he may have just been along for the ride as she hated him
...what? Can you quote where it was "heavily implied" that Birchface loved Mapleshade lol? As far as we know, Mapleshade just used his name to pretend he was the father of her kits. We never even met Birchface, it was never implied or even mentioned that he actually had feelings for Mapleshade.
@@Clooover The very fact alone that Frecklewish believed Birchface was the father, even though Mapleshade did not name a father and, if I'm correct, did not even confirm that Birchface was the father is enough, to be honest. Why would Frecklewish believe that UNLESS Birchface already previously had feelings for Mapleshade? Especially with the fact Mapleshade did not mention the father of her kits and, in fact, wanted to keep it a secret from the rest of the clan until they were likely already apprentices/warriors
@@Clooover In fact, it was entirely because of Frecklewish that the clan believed they were Birchface's kits (it's been a while since I read MV). Regardless, Frecklewish 100% did not deserve the dark forest and I'm honestly hoping she was dragged there and chose to stay there because of TBC (though that sounds out of character from MV alone)
Of course, the Erins also originally put two she-cats who did nothing except have negative emotions into the dark forest as well, so I'm betting it's more likely a mistake if anything else
@@shelbcake Wasn't it stated that Frecklewish believed Birchface was the father simply because Mapleshade said she'd be raising the kits alone? The pregnancy was fresh and as no living cat claimed the kits and Mapleshade said she's raising them alone, Frecklewish assumed the recently dead Birchface was the father. I don't think Birchface had any kind of romantic feelings for Mapleshade, Frecklewish just jumped to a conclusion to try and keep her brothers memory alive.

Frecklewish didn't see them die, Mapleshade assumes this despite what she was told. Frecklewish didn't do anything wrong, Mapleshade was delusional and took her grief out on those around her. It was her fault the kits died, she could have gone somewhere else and waited for the storm to die down and she didn't.

Summary:
The medicine cat, Mosswing, tells Froststar about a prophecy he had received: “Shadow will take away the clouds” nightclan was trying to figure out what the prophecy meant. Not too long later, Shadowtail and a rouge named Speedy work together and kidnap Honeykit. Springpaw tries to stop them, but he gets killed. Blackpelt found him on patrol :( then Shadowpelt tries to kill Grassfur, Blackpelt’s mate. She tells him and Froststar gets informed that his son’s mate was nearly killed and exiles Shadowtail and when he leaves he confessed that he killed Springpaw. Then a few moons later, Cloudfoot and Blackpelt go missing. Also one of the other clans, Mountainclan, says that they’re missing a warrior at the fourtrees gathering. Froststar is terrified and has his only non missing family member, Mosswing, support him. Then Mosswing realized something. “Shadow will take away the clouds” Shadowtail! Cloudfoot! So Nightclan goes to the barn and interrogates some rouges until they found Cloudfoot and Nightpelt. Apparently Shadowtail had changed his name to Swallowing Shadows. A big rouge vs clan battle begins and Swallowing Shadows dies
Honestly, in my opinion I don’t think Maple’shade ever really said anything about birchface being the father, here’s why:
1: Maple’shade never said if birchface was their father or not, she just let frecklewish think that, which in my books doesn’t mean that she was lying, she was just keeping her mouth shut about the father.
2: frecklewish saying that Maple’shade used her brothers name was “false”. Like reason one, she kept her mouth shut about the father, and never revealed who the father was.
3: this one is off topic of this, but the whole reason Maple’shade became a murderer was all oakstar and raven wings fault. Ravenwing told oakstar about Maple’shade and appledusk, NOT EVEN HAVING FULL PROOF, “on no! apple dusk was “too caring” or something to the kits, I guess that’s the father! Now let’s go tell oakstar about this even though I have no true proof!” See how stupid it is? Just because appledusk was watching the kits closely or something doesn’t mean that he was the father (yes he is the real father) now with oakstar. Oakstar broke rule 12 (if you count this) he exiled Maple’shade and her kits, technically, he put them in danger/in risk of being put in danger. Back to ravenwing, we could’ve decided to keep his mouth shut and be like, “hey, I’m gonna not say this to oakstar, cause then the kits could be put in danger!” He wasn’t “doing his job” he was doing something ANY cat would/could do. It’s not his job, its something a warrior would do in case if they were crossing territory, which I don’t think was happening, I’m pretty sure appledusk was just watching the kits well in the water and Maple’shade was doing the same thing, which isn’t breaking the code. And besides, the kits were already born, there’s nothing you can do about it.

For the few people who may not know what an AU is, it’s basically a timeline you create, it can include both new characters and canon characters. Almost every book, anime, video game, or anything can and has at least one AU.

Headcannon: (I haven’t read the book so it’s probably wrong but a fun thought): mapleshade dragged frecklewish to the dark forest as a last act of vengeance to make her suffer (basically a “I’m taking you to hell with me” thing)

Late comment but Frecklewish was not innocent at all. She made false assumptions, called the kits half-clanned creatures, attacked Mapleshade in camp (don’t mention Graystripe attacking Fireheart because I know and disliked Gray for that as well) and demanded for them to be exiled. I don’t think she is dark forest worthy but I don’t think she deserves Starclan either. Probably some purgatory along with Appledusk, and Oakstar in the dark forest with Mapleshade. Mapleshade was a flawed character from the start but was driven to insanity by the loss of her kits, her home, and the betrayal of her cheating ex. Lest we forget that she was hallucinating after the events. No one in this book showed Mapleshade any kind of empathy besides Nettlepaw and Myler. Oakstar exiled defenseless kittens, Appledusk was unfaithful to his mate and his clan, Darkstar didn’t even allow Mapleshade to sit vigil for her dead kits. Very unsympathetic if you ask me. Yeah, their death is on her, but she was just exiled and her mental health had started its rapid deterioration before the crossing. You wouldn’t really think clearly after being attacked by your ex clan mate and being exiled your home. Her kittens were the true victims of this book. Everyone here (except Reedshine, she didn’t do anything wrong) is at fault. And even though I love her, this isn’t meant to justify Mapleshade, either. She was truly evil as soon as she plotted murder, no matter the circumstances that lead up to it. She is a murderer and while her story is a tragedy and I feel bad for her for the loss of her kits, she did deserve the dark forest for her crimes.

Luckily, the other clans came to help before anything really bad happened, and the rogues only took a few things. It felt strange to be warm, but she was grateful. After the long Leafbare the'd had, it felt good to not have snow everywhere. She stood up, and headed over to her mate Frostnight. The beautiful faded she cat gave her a mew of welcome, and pushed a trout towards her. " Eat! Streamstar wants us to go scouting for more new supplies to fix the camp. You'll need your strength today!," she said, smiling at Embercreek.
Rewatching this just randomly gave me the idea of re-writing Mapleshade's vengence to be a slash fic between Frecklewish and Mapleshade, and the story ends with Frecklewish freely choosing to join her lover in the Dark Forest. Ik that in canon it wouldn't actually be a good relationship because they hate each other but CMON I JUST WANT SOME GAY CATS GODDAMNIT
