Such an important message - I hope it reaches many! Our food system really is the most important leverage we have to combat the climate catastrophe as a united global society!

It makes me so upset that this is still a thing. Gov should've had pulled the plant-"base" nutrition recommendation back years ago. I did a good vegan diet, supplemented, and still got the worst mental health I've ever had. My doctors did all they could to help me, since they realised it had a dietary component to it, and nothing helped. I went back to animal foods only after I was already fearing being successful in taking my life, because I didn't believed it could be the diet. I heard plant-base doctors saying that there was no disease you could develop from this diet. This is harming people. Remove this recommendation. There are kids being harmed. Severe depression was only the most damaging symptoms I had, but the diet made me ill in several ways. Stop harming people. Our industrial way made the global warming problem, advicing people to adopt a deficient diet will not save us from this.

sorry that you had such a bad experience while eating vegan. vegan diets are not deficient diets. i am a nutrition scienitist in germany, and i can definitely say, that the overall science consensus is that plantbased diets are a healthy and sustainable way of eating, if done right. you have to be careful about getting all essential micronutrients in, like in any other diet.

"On the basis of current scientific literature, the German Nutrition Society (DGE) has
developed a position on the vegan diet. With a pure plant-based diet, it is difficult
or impossible to attain an adequate supply of some nutrients."
If vegan diets are not deficient, how do you get Taurine in it?

    • @ninatamara14

HDloly I know what the DGE is saying about a plantbased diet. Many nutrition scientists demand to change the wording. The DGE is one of the few nutrition societys in europe with that kind of wording. E.g. the Austrian nutrition society, as well as the AND (USA), the DGS (Portugal) and the NHMRC (Australian) are pro plantbased diet. Also the DGE doesnt represent the CURRENT scientific consensus.

@@ninatamara14 All English-speaking countries that I saw just accepted the position of AND, they didn't had a position on their own. As well as pratically all the world accepted the food pyramid, that we know was designed with economic interests. I'm not sorry for not trusting current nutritional consensus, vegan or non-vegan. Beyond DGE there is Spain and French-speaking countries that also don't think vegan diets are adequate, and I don't know about other languages that may not have translated their opinions on vegan diets, so I don't think we can call it a consensus either.
      And what about Taurine?
