- Story Of Goddess Mariamman
The goddess Mariamman is often referred to as Amman. She is worshiped in various locations in South India, especially in the regions of Deccan and Tamil Nadu. During the late summer and autumn season, her festivals are held, the largest being the Ādi Thiruviḻa. . The main focus of her worship is on bringing rain and curing diseases, such as chicken pox and cholera. The Mariamman is regarded as a righteous and benevolent deity by the people of South India. She is also regarded as a guardian of the people. In northern India, Shitala Devi is worshiped in a similar way, predominantly by the Rajput/Kshatriya community. Shitala has a legend and plays a similar role in protecting villages from diseases. Mariamman has since been associated with Hindu goddesses like Parvati, Kali, Durga, as well as with her northern Indian counterpart Shitala Devi, her eastern Indian counterpart, Olai Chandi, and her western Indian counterpart of Mogal Mata. Mariamman is usually pictured as a beautiful young woman with a red-hued face, wearing a red or yellow dress. Mariamman is generally portrayed in the sitting or standing position, often holding a trident (trisula) in one hand and a bowl (kapala) in the other. One of her hands may display a mudra, usually the abhaya mudra, to ward off fear. Sometimes she is portrayed with many arms-representing her many powers-but in most representations she has only two or four. She may be represented with two demeanours-one displaying her pleasant nature, and the other her terrifying aspect, with fangs and a wild mane of hair. The Goddess Mariamman is believed to be an incarnation of the eternal Shakti as the divine mother is portrayed as cosmic energy in its dynamic form.

I am not Indian but this is such a great story. Love India for it's rich culture and delicious food ❤
Thanks for portraying the story of our devi Samayapuram Mariamman
Love from Samayapuram,
Trichy, Tamilnadu ❤
Om Shakti ✨
In South Africa we celebrate this prayer, especially Tamil Hindus. It's origin is so beautiful and what a loving story of our culture. ❤🎉 Makes you want to travel back in time and live on earth in the age of God. 🎉❤
🙏🙏🙏In South Africa we South Indian Hindus worship Ammaa Marieammen. During our months of July & August (Aadi) we Praise & honour Ammaa Marieammen by observing Marieammen Prayer Festival. Aum Shakti Para Sathi ❤ 🙏🙏🙏
Mari is a devi who cures illness. Mari Amma or Mari Aayi( in Maharashtra.) Seems similar.
Whenever we are cured of chicken pox or small pox, we would Mariamman temple in Tamil Nadu.
She is also called Magamayi in Tamil which is Mahaamaayi in Sanskrit.
For shitala Devi bengal worships her too . All the casts worship her . Olaichandi is different she is the godess chandi who defeated ola disease and Devi shitla dominated jarasur fever .
I am from gor banjara community from telangana, we worship both the goddess, sitlamata and mayramma(mariamma). Sitlamata worshipped as protector of village, usually the temple of sitlamata along with other 8 goddess like hinglaj are in the entrance of village, and mariamma worshipped for rain and good harvest.
Samayapura means "Time end" > end of time > forever > eternal
It's also the name of a place in Trichy, where the world famous Mariamman temple is located.

Jai Mata Di 🙏❤️🙏
Maariamman thunai 🙏
In Rajasthan too we worship shitala mata, my mother make sweet rice a night before and next day at 4 am we go to temple to pray to her. Mamma said its for long life of children. It's one of the beautiful memory of my mother.
In Odisha, she is called Hadikhai or Satthi( सठ्ठि) bou, bou means mom in Odia language.
But unlike other states where she is considered a form of Parbati, Odia culture considers as a form of goddess Lakshmi as Odias are more of a Vaishnavaite culture.
Her sign is neem( Nimba in Odia) leaves and it is considered a good omen to be beaten in neem leaves in Odisha and children are regularly beaten in neem leaves( it is Odia way of averting the evil eye or nazar).
The pox patients sleep on neem leaves and they are smeared with oil, curd, turmeric before being worshipped on the 21st day, as Devi is said to have graced their body and treated/saved them, as pox was deadly some decades ago. As with lakshmi, she is also associated with cleanliness.

In Telangana we call her Muthyala Amma(Muthalamma).
In Telugu
MUTYAM = Pearl
Amma = Mother
In some area in tamilnadu, they call her muthalamma. Sounds similar.
@@Termsandconditions1234 Not Similar it is exactly same. People call her muthalamma only. I have said in a formal way.
In Kannada also same she is called as
Mutthumaaramma
Mutthu means pearl
Maaramma means mother of rain.
In Telangana she is known as Marama matha
@@lemuelsvolgs Maremma is different. If you have seen the video. It is mentioned that muth mariaamman. Muth means pearl same in Telugu mutyam. She is worshipped for rain.
Shitala mata is our kuldevi and gram devi of maximum in Bengal
Was literally searching for info related to Amman and if she was related to Durga but couldn't find much.then your video released 😊

மாரி என்றால் மழை என்று பொருள்.. அதனால் தான் மாரியம்மன்
She is also combined with Renuka devi in few epics.
This is clearly depicted in an old Tamil movie Sakthi Leelai ( 1972 ).
As per the Legend. Parasurama was ordered to behead his mother Renuka devi by her father Sage Jamadagni.
Renuka devi hides herself to prevent bad deeds or Shaap for Parashuram.
Atlast. Parashuram finds devi. While beheading Devi. He accidentally beheads another woman's head too.
After all this with help of his father. He brings back devi but with an exchanged body.
Devi's head was exchanged with another woman's body and vice versa.
Devi's body with another woman's head was blessed by Sage Jamadagni to be worshipped as Mariamman / Ellaiamman by common people.
Utterly wrong story.renuka can't be Mariamman adhishakthi even though some says renuka and her husband worshiped shiva and parvathi.
Sir / Madam. I got information from movie Shakthi Leelai ( 1972 ).
@@vinukg5396 Most of movie people they create fake story .but not according to history( purana) ok. Parvathi or Adhi parashakthi is her self universe .or mother of universe she was born or taken avathar of Meenakshi or parvathi .and married shiva who is father of whole universe .but Renuka is not like that her husband jamadhagni Muni she gave birth to 4 son .she lusted for gandhar dev .she was punished with leprosy disease and later on be headed by her own son .in her life time renuka and jamadhagni Muni was great devotee of Shiva and parvathi .so renuka Devi is not Mariamman Durga is worshipped in south India has village deity as Mariamman
.
Most of movie story is fake story dropathy or renuka Devi are different they their husband are pandava and Muni but Mariamman is adhiparaskakthi the mother of universe ok.
We in northern part celebrates shitala mata during the same season.…
In Maharashtra we worship the Mari. Aai... Goddess im same way during the Ashadh. Month
During the beginning of rainy season. We offer Puranpoli sweet to goddess and believe that she protects the whole family and gives rain.
We have mhammari or mahamari devi in Goa
Before any marrige starts here in ujjain Indore region we do sheetla mata puja which is the first ritual of the wedding , we worship her so that no hurdles can happen during the whole wedding
Hey, here from Telangana, Hyderabad. We also do the same in telugu culture. That's the first thing we do as a wedding ritual and we call it bonam.

As a Malaysian hindu, this is the first form of goddess that I knew as a child. ❤
Thank you so much 🙏🙏🙏
We gujarati has shitala satam day twice a year one is small satam and other is big satam, a day bfr janmashtami. Satam is saptami and that day we don't eat fresh food. We don't lit our stoves for whole day bcs we believe shitala mata has come to the stove so if we burn it, it'll burn her. We worshipped her making star looked roti (one head 2 hands 2 feets) offer it to her tample. We worshipped her as both shitala mata and mogal maa. We also worshipped her and her 6 sisters. We also offer them whenever someone get skin related disease.
Jai Mata Di!!!
Even though sheetla mata is woshiped in southern regions she also has a lot of temples here in north India even thought they are small they are a lot of them and she is being worshiped here(Haryana, chandigarh)
Very good explanation of the background of worship of Mariamman and good to know that she is same as Sheetala devi and Mogal mata where the later two were worshipped by western Kshatriyas. But the video does not explain exactly how Mariamman got the other two names. As far as my intuition goes the name Mogal mata originates from Mudgalini where Mudgal is yet another name for lord Ganesha.
She probably wanted the people to eat the holy porridge on the time of year she appeared because that is probably the season when this disease would be most likely to be rampant, so the holy porridge might act as a protective and preventative medicine!
We also have a Sheetla Devi temple in Mumbai, Maharashtra 🙏
Sheetala Mata is Worshipped as ( Pochamma) in Telangana Region
VERY GOOD ❤
Jai Mata Di❤️❤️🙏🏻❤️❤️
Jai Maa Shitla Devi❤️🙏🏻❤️
❤❤ in Rajasthan we worship her by the name of sheetala or santoshi mata

Mariamman is adhiparashakthi avathar of Goddess parvathi .her husband is shiva dropathy is different from parvathy dropathy husband are fiva pandavas .
Good topic but with very little research. Why not admit that it's only about Tamil Nadu and try not to mis represent the entire South India
Queen Sami Ramis is same as Mari, or Mary, And Amman, actually originates from Hebrew.😊
the story is fully wrong and is a bogus video . Mari is born to bramhins and married to a shoe mender. later the story is terrific.
