One of the best battery life videos I have seen, Tom. I was not surprised by the results, and I am anxiously awaiting the predicted partnership between Huawei and AT&T to offer the Mate 10 Pro in the United States. I'm carrying a Note 8 right now, and yes... It's pretty impressive.

I just got almost 11h sot with my oneplus 5t. It was pretty light use with about 15% brightnes.
I just got about 1 hour 30 minute in Lenovo S650. Sad life :(

Considering the relatively strong performance by the S8, I think the S8+ might fare even better, probably beating the 5T and getting close to the Mate 10 Pro

Kaleid KaleidPL Notes used to have some of the best battery life but after the note 7 issue which packed the battery so tight it was shorting they decided to play it safe and make it a tiny bit smaller than last year’s while increasing screen size (3500mah vs 3300). So it still has a pretty decent battery life but not like it was known for in the past. My coworker carries a bank but he also uses themes hardcore. That’s partly the jist of it, it’s too easy to beat down the note’s battery when it can spike to 1100 nits.

It's a fantastic phone with incredible battery life. And no, I don't need the battery life to redeem my "shite phone", because the performance is amazing. Better than Samsung's famously laggy TouchWiz....
jarl balgruuf I haven't properly tried the S8, so can only really comment on the Mate 10 Pro. The battery life is killer, I've never had less than 30% by the end of the day (~10pm), and then 40-odd minutes gives me a full charge. Screen is a little bigger than the S8, although resolution is lower. That said, the screen is still stunning! Camera is (arguably) better, because the dual lenses allow for portrait shots as well as lossless zoom. As for the software, I really haven't had a problem, and I really like some EMUI features. Oh yeah, performance is lightning fast, and I can't say I've heard the same about the S8...

I've owned a oneplus one and currently own a oneplus 3. There are a lot of videos around doing screen time tests, but never see or hear many comments on standby time, which I think is just as important. There's nothing worse than losing 20% of your battery life in your pocket in an afternoon. Thanks

iPhone X went pretty good considering it was the flagship phone with the smaller battery. And also it is fair to say that the note 8 didn’t go so bad remembering that it is a phone with a higher resolution display. And last but not least it was evident that Huawei went further thanks to its huge 4000 mAh battery.
Camilo Rodas I do have respect for how optimized the iPhones are, all of them are very well optimized. But a smaller battery is a smaller battery unfortunately. If I wasn't such a power user, I'd try out iPhone

i don't like the Note 8 either, for that exact reason. For $1000 it SHOULD demolish the competition, but it doesn't, same goes for the iphone. Both are just disappointing for me.

Because 30 minutes of Antutu is realistic use xD that's what skewed the result as you can clearly see that before that, the pixel would die first in real world use.

Nice test Tom. Strange to see the Note die so quickly tho, it is usually better than S8 but slightly worse than S8+ / O+5T. Mine has great battery life and definitely better than my friends' regular S8s.
Deliquescator so many factors to take in. He could have more apps on it and what not, a background software update, who knows. I would agree note usually lands between the two.
Deliquescator I think it’s because while Notes have always had some of the best battery life, with “last year’s” phone fiasco, they put a slightly smaller one while increasing the screen size. If they hadn’t packed the battery so tight, which was what was causing it to short, they would’ve put one bigger this year.

With the way i use my s8+, the battery lasts sometimes up to 70hrs. Never had that with any other phone.

Ezequiel Perez The camera was top 3 guaranteed last year, you also have to take into consideration that the average person won't be able to tell the difference since it's so small. The camera being bad is an understatement, it's actually pretty good.

I'm not really surprised to be honest. I've had to change the settings to get a full days use out of it. Otherwise it would be dead before I got home.

So the iPhone is the most efficient, but having 2716mAh on such an expensive phone is almost insulting.

Can you do a retest in 6 months time? New phones with fresh batteries have an epic life. My new S7 Edge managed 11 hours of Netflix when it was new. That soon dropped to about 5.
