I first came across Bill when I was a struggling teacher in a very challenging school (a PRU), it transformed my teaching practice more than any other single intervention and consequently helped many very deserving pupils who I otherwise would not have been able to reach. Now I am a school leader responsible for supporting staff to deliver better teaching it is wonderful to revisit this material. He is truly a great human and superb educator.
In this video he says that he will be talking about all these strategies. Where do I go to hear these strategies?
What a brilliant man! My pen is on fire from taking notes :)
I've saw Dr Rogers a few years ago in London. A brilliant educator.
This man is the Yoda of Classroom management!
This needs to be the crux of teacher training on PGCEs. We learn none of this and then we are overwhelmed with these classes and leave the profession.
We'll put, just about to finish PGCE. I've learnt zero behaviour management!.
None of these videos seem to be addressing the kind of students and schools we have in the US. I wonder if he could survive here for more than a day?
Bill is the GOAT
I find Bill's articulation of the issues of classroom management almost unparalleled.
The best behaviour management tool you can ever have is an engaging lesson plan. Engaged students are rarely enraged students.
@Robert Taylor I'm not assuming anything other than that engaging lessons are the best pathway to well-ordered, purposeful learning. If students aren't engaged they get more easily drawn into side issues rather than focusing on the lesson. My use of the term 'rarely' means that sometimes pupil rage will occur no matter how good the lesson is. I once taught a student who hated me with a vengeance and whenever I was on fire and took the attention away from him, he would go ballistic - he refused to be engaged by anything other than his own issues.
This is so my class at the moment...... I learnt so much from this.... Thanks for the upload
How did you go?
Try and try, and then find the right way to manage class.
Excellent educator
I came across this looking on how to not be one of thease students described in the videos .
basically no strategies put forward in this video. love bill, but this was repetitive and of little practical use
