    In many of your videos, you talk about not wanting to "geek out" too much. I am sure that I speak for many of us, in that if you want to do some super long "geek out" vids, I would be excited to watch them. In any case thanks for all the stellar info you put out!

      Thanks Cory, glad to know other boaters also like to "geek out". Maybe will do a new in-depth series called "geeking out".

      @@PacificYachtSystems That sir, sounds like a perfect evening... Sit in the cockpit, mix up a couple of "Dark and Stormys" , and geek out on your vids!

    Great video, I have a Leece Neville 220 with an external Ratelco regulator. State of the art in 1979! Always keep 2 sets of V belts on hand.

    Found you in thinking of the Great Loop :) was gearing up for the Great Lakes, well bigger picture now is longer liveable away time. Weighing out solar, wind and quieter power options. Love the videos Started out in Computers and Electronics in UGH the 70's So geeking outs great :) Currently a Auto / Truck Tech, got into a bit more Marine. Engines, and drives pretty straight forward, wiring and sources of power. Altho the ABYC marine end makes total sense, like in auto lean something new every day. Love the videos Like being back in HS in a way :)

    Hi Jeff, really enjoying your series, especially the videos on the external regulator. But I have not found the answer yet on how to install an external regulator on an alternator that feeds 3 separate battery banks, through a Victron Argofet. Looking forward to your nect video! Keep it up please, best regards, Maarten

    Hello. Thanks for all the great videos. We have a boat with dual Yamaha F300 outboards and was wondering if adding an external regulator(s) is an option also with outboards.

    I like your video's, they are great.
    Somehow you did not mention Mastervolt for external regulators. Their AlphaPro go back long way, we have them since 1990 and still working great.

      Hi Wolfgang, didn't know that.... not surprising as Mastervolt makes great products.

    Have you investigated the new Intergel Solutions system, that should solve all charging problems AND no need for external generator?

    What about Wakespeed regulators?

    Ha ha. There’s a black wire just splice it. I just removed a #14 ground from my boat. It was spliced multiple times. When I peeled the insulation back it was chard. Burning from the inside out. What a mess.

    The only comment in this fine video I don't understand is the need to have "beefy" alternator(s) for LiFePO4 despite using a programmable external alternator. Why would dual alternators try to provide LiFePO4 with everything LP will take (and burn up) if an external regulator will overrule that lack of resistance on behalf of the alternators condition? In my case dual 120 alts (not Balmar, each with less about 7-8' 1/0 cabling to batt bus)... regulated by an alternator temp sensing Balmar MC612 Dual regulator I do realize there would be some sacrifice of rapid charging on behalf of alternators.

      Hi David, you're correct, a properly configured external regulator with external temp sensor on alternator will definitely help protect your alternator from overheating. Very few alternators cannot handle the high Charge Acceptance Rate (CAR) of the lithium batteries and the alternators sometimes burn out. Keep us posted with your setup.

    My alternator has an internal regulator. Can I add a smart external regulator to my system?

    • @PacificYachtSystems
      @PacificYachtSystems  4 роки тому +1

      Hi Brent, you can add an eternal regulator. You need to bring your alternator to a good alternator shop and get it swapped to an external regulator wiring, i.e. remove internal regulator and get a external field.

    When you say external regulator, only refers to recent decades smart units for deep cycle house banks, different than 60 70 external regulators on cars that probably do nothing special
