This video is pure gold coz it speaks of the dark horse of mutual funds - Quant MF! Would love an in-depth video on Quant Tax Plan & Quant Small Cap which are quite the audience favourites in past 3 years...
Thank you very much again, RDX. I have an ET Money video on Quant Small Cap Fund and Quant Active Fund. Let's start with that and do let me know if there are any hanging questions. Link: ua-cam.com/video/Ktkv86NfdQ0/v-deo.html Also, Quant Active and Quant Tax has an 80% overlap so the video will sufficient explain the Tax plan construct via the Active plan (www.advisorkhoj.com/mutual-funds-research/common-stocks-across-mf-schemes?category=All&schemes=quant%20Active%20Fund,Quant%20Tax%20Plan)

Your last line " please watch this video again for better retention " truly sums up the quality and depth of the video.. Time well spent watching your video.. Thanks !
Great video Shankar sir. I myself have been doing this analysis at my end to evaluate Quant, and your analysis is quite comprehensive. One unanswered question I still have is that quant strategies require huge capital investment in AI, ML, data analytics (Jim Simons invested billions in technology and mathematicians, data scientists to generate high returns). Quant MF or Sandeep Tandon have never mentioned in-depth how much they have invested in emerging technologies, and more interestingly how can a smallish fund house invest so much in the very beginning? Also, they could have easily played in the PMS segment with wealthier clients and lesser regulations! Shankar sir - you must try to invite Sandeep Tandon on your channel for an interview. Best wishes.
Thank you Sarabjeet for your kind words of appreciation and encouragement. With re: investments, I don't have an answer for you but I also don't quite agree with the correlation between RenTec's billions and Quant's supposedly few millions. We are talking about two different markets here (US & India) and surely both companies work on different analytical models. So each would have it's own distinct personnel, capital and resource requirement. It's like that Virus ki pen joke in 3 idiots "US ne hundreds of millions of dollars use kareke space pen ka aawishkaar kiya aur Russia ne pencil use kiya" Yes, I'll surely want to have an interaction with Mr. Tandon in the future .. kya pata, he might show me a pen :)

If done properly based on data Analytics, surely adds up great returns . But the Fund mgr’s job is demanding and stressful . Kudos to Quant team and your team for the Excellent presentation 👍

Sir your videos are excellent! They are different from other UA-cam channels in lots of good ways....presentation, information, analysis.....thank you so much for these videos and God bless you.
Two peculiar findings from my non-professional eye 1. The small cap fund has a very large holding in large cap stocks. I think 18%. Is that responsible for the unusually high returns? 2. They don't sell the funds directly from their website. One has to go through ET money /Groww/other apps to start a SIP or lumpsum. Why is that?
All questions are fair, Dr. Ankur 1. No. Small caps has nothing to do with it. It is a common (and wrongful) belief that small caps means high returns. Acceleration comes from the driver pressing the accelerator and not the car. 2. Oh, I don't know this. Even I have my schemes in Quant MF via platforms
@@shankarnath thank you for your reply Mr. Nath. I was in the market for a small cap fund, and I discovered it(quant small cap) had the highest large cap holdings in comparison to its peer funds. That made me wonder if it is "ethical" to be considered a small cap fund. Regardless, I did start a SIP in that. In the end, the investor would like the returns, be it ethical or loopholed!
@@lemedico In my opinion and this is just conjecture, but I think their model is not totally perfected for small caps. The say so because of the "liquidity" part which is an important element in their modelling .. as it is a signal for entry and exit. @@shankarnath Since SEBI directive for small caps is at least 65% small cap allocation and the fact that Mutual Fund industry is highly regulated, nothing wrong in having a large cap with 18% allocation, especially for liquidity and as an anchor for stabilizing the fund.
Quite analytical, the intro was OOW 😃😃. I came to know about Quant early last year when one of my friends in the financial industry recommend. Keep bringing such content 👍
Thank you very much for your kind appreciation. Quant's investing style has been a mystery & treasure hunt of sorts .. so I wanted to capture it in the introduction of the video
I have been following your videos since more than 3 years and it helped me a lot to define a right portfolio.. Another wonderful video to provide right insights. Keep going sir!!
Great videon, people will love and I would also like if you can make a video or series on quant funds as well as trading style like that of medalion though it is quite a mysterious phenomenon.
As usual, great quality content, unbiased view. I have been following and quite fascinated by Quant Mutual Fund schemes with their investment philosophy. Hearing from you validates my conviction in this company. I am surprised that Morning Star does not even consider it in their tip 10 rating despite this fund giving top returns for the last three years
Much appreciated, Vivek! While I don't know Morningstar's evaluation methodology, having worked with ET Money I am aware that every platform has it's own variables & score around it. Without getting into specifics, ET Money appreciates returns, volatility and downside protection when ranking schemes. Also there are conditions e.g. scheme should have crossed x number of years, must not have been recategorized over x years, minimum AUM of x crores etc.
Great one Shankar! I was discussing the MF style with a friend and suggested that there are 3 categories of Equity MF - Index, active and Quant MF (data/technical based). Keep it up!
Thank you Ashwin. Add a fourth - factor based (e.g. momentum, liquidity, quality, value etc.). While the Quant AMC type funds have shades of this .. the reason for bracketing it as a 4th category is because these factor based funds are a lot more transparent and clear-tracked. Just like active have index funds .. similarly quant funds have their factor (smart beta) fund cousins
@@shankarnath noted! Also, full disclosure, started buying quant mf (active and small cap) only after your video & analysis on ET. Thanks for this again!
Hello sir Much awaited video on Quant. As usual analysis is great. Quant MF is a mystery at least for me. As a data analyst I am curious to know more! Hope to see you with Sandeep Tondon soon! Thanks for the informative content.
You are right. While there is information available, it's not something the everyday investor is keen to understand or is not presented in an understandable way. I'm blaming no-one here, it's just how our brains are codified. I went through 8 or 9 interviews before I could process it into these 5 strategy pockets. Thanks for the encouragement as always, Ejaj
Agreed Shankar ji! A lot has changed and examining quant funds by old rule books will not be of any help. I assume soon we are going to have leveraged ETFs also in India like the US, and if there already exist any please let me know.
Well well. These are testing times for Quant Mutual funds who have very big exposure to Adani stocks. I have invested in Quant Active Fund which has about 11.4% ( Ambuja and Adani Ports) . Not sure how the fund house is planning to cut loses 🤔
Hi. Thanks for your valuable videos. The apple valuation tool that you showed in the video, does that valuate any equity in the indian market as well? If yes, can you please guide me on where i could fetch it? Thank you.
Hello, I don't think the template caters to Indian stocks. The worksheet is available here : www.hvst.com/posts/12-valuation-ratios-every-investor-should-know-wLmTDW4y
Being an investor in quant MF I was happy when you made this video. One thing which was concerning me was their exposure to Adani and Patanjli stocks. And when Hindenberg report came, I was very much worried. Recently there were reports that Quant has completely exited from all Adani stocks and I don't see any Adani stocks in their portfolio now. Would be good if you could make a part two showing how their framework handled this risk.
It pays to be flexible in market, and that's what Quant have shown. A great learning video which has helped open my mind to various possibilities and being flexible... Great work Shankar, appreciate all the effort...
Great content, superb quality of graphics and the best presenter. Glad i found this channel so early. Thanks you Shankar for the hardwork and dedication.
Excellent video sir .. But please give your opinion on these points 1) lesser AUM makes it convenient & easy for change of strategy. Inspite of huge over performance from past 3 years, AUM is very much low . Can they continue the same for higher AUM? 2) all the factors they are considering don't always seem quantitative. Any one or 2 of them going wrong might lead to issues. So follow up continually & too much research is required for such performance 3) i feel 5-6 years of data is required Bcoz it's not easy to continue such over performance over long term
Thank you 1. There is nothing concrete I have found about AUM and fund performance. Even now, when I look at the data - there are many small AUM schemes which have performed poorly and there are many large AUM schemes which have performed well. 2. Possible. Investing is a multi-variate skill and people have opinions. It's something similar like the two shoesalesman who landed in Africa. One said - there is no market as no one wears shoes here. The other said - wow! this is a huge market as no one wears shoes here presently. 3. In that case, you'll have to wait for atleast 2 more years to form an opinion. The VLRT model was employed by Quant starting late 2019 and they did it one by one across schemes
Great teaching and content Sir... Even I was curious since a long time about how Quant outperforms in almost all equity categories... Your video answers this question... You taught quite a complicated concept in an easy and relatable way 😍 I like your video-editing, storytelling and the funny sketch that you played in the start 😃 I find your thumbnails also very funny and interesting, which almost always makes me watch your videos 😁... You are doing a great job Sir, please do keep it up 🙌 . . Also a suggestion Sir, do start with a Hindi channel also at the soonest... I am aware shooting and editing takes quite sometime and you may have even thought about it. Most Indian audience are comfortable with Hindi and your channel growth may also boost. Nonetheless, I'll keep continue watching your videos Sir and I always get so much to learn from you 😄
Thank you for your kind appreciation and encouragement, Suphil. Happy to know my videos are playing a small part in your financial journey You are right. Duplicating content in Hindi is only going to take time away from doing quality research which will not help anyone. The solution is technology and I am awaiting my request for early access to Aloud dubbing program by Google which'll convert all my English videos into Hindi in a space of 10-15 minutes. That way all content will be available in English, Hindi .. and eventually in Tamil, Marathi, Bengali etc.
Hi Shankar, First our sincere prayers to our videographer of a great team. Really, content is more of very detailed technical & data analysis. Truly a good point on when to exit a fund / stock is like when to say NO in professional environment. This is what we miss out when we do portfolio rebalancing. Kindly throw some more light on when to exit.
Thanks Mukesh, the doctor has recommended 2 things - a) prayers and b) high returns. He's doing much better now Yes, I'll research the different entry-exit models and come up with something workable. My first video (16% returns on smallcap) did the entry & exit part well and offered an alpha of 2-3% over the benchmark. I'm sure there are more such scenarios, will circle back.
Quant MF is the only Fund House right now utilising AI and ML metrics. Others are clueless to explain Quant MF outperformance across all categories of schemes.Hope, they will continue their outperformance.
Excellent presentation ,as always. Honestly 👍I could not understand the initial drama . Many of my doubts were cleared about Quant fund house . I was always skeptical that Mr Tondon's team may be doing some "jhol" but you cleared my doubts. I am now convinced that they are proffessional five star hotel chefs, serving masses instead of classes. Thank you Shankar and your team.
Thank you Rajeev ji. In my opinion, this would be a progressive understanding because of the way Mr. Tandon puts it -- "we'll go where the money is". The key is -- what parts of it we can use in our investing approach as retail investors? I liked the multiple models, behaviour as an input & multivariate analysis part
Good one..I'm an investor with Quant Active Fund . I'm thinking of tripling my investments in that fund. But my concern is if the fund size swells , can they be still agile , churn and give good performance? The other concern is how updated are their quant model . Unless they are very smart in refining the quality of data analysis, they will not be able to generate superior returns.
Thanks! Few ways to look at your questions that might help: 1. If Quant schemes continue this performance, their fund size will grow. Currently they are are 10,000+ crores of AUM and two more years of this, then even 40,000 crores is breachable. So I'll assume that's a given. The only way fund size will not grow is if their performance lags. So this high performance-low AUM scenario is a low probability scenario .. so I won't think much on those lines 2. Updations in the quant model is not in our control and Quant is not going to tell us what is happening at the backend. We have to watch for it and use prudent practices like not dedicating all our wealth to their investing model
well researched information and lucid presentation in all your videos. Keep going. How long does it take for you to research, consolidate, script, shoot and edit each video?
The intro is zabardast, I hope your videographer recovers soon 😁 Much needed video coz everyone is speaking about Quant in all categories. Also, as of now their AUM seems to be of concern, but looking at the returns, many investors are turning towards Quant. Have to wait and watch. Thanks as always 😊

1. Sher to jungle mein hi milega na? Yes, thanks! We are doing much better now. The doctor has advised two things - a) prayers and b) high returns. Viewers of this video are taking care of a) while Quant MF is delivering b) 2. Slightly buzy with my schedules.
Great analysis Shankar ji.
Thank you Sandipan ji. Glad you liked it
Great one Shankar!
@@ashwinsingh199 Me too! :)
Hello sir
Much awaited video on Quant.
Great interpretation as expected ❤
Glad you liked it!
Agreed Shankar ji!
A lot has changed and examining quant funds by old rule books will not be of any help.
I assume soon we are going to have leveraged ETFs also in India like the US, and if there already exist any please let me know.
Will surely circle back if I find anything on leveraged ETFs, thanks!
Well well. These are testing times for Quant Mutual funds who have very big exposure to Adani stocks. I have invested in Quant Active Fund which has about 11.4% ( Ambuja and Adani Ports) . Not sure how the fund house is planning to cut loses 🤔
Great Job. Superb video. Thank you for all the hard work. God bless.
Thank you very much!
Excellent overview of quant mf strategies.
Thank you!
I have no more words left to praise U ❤
Thanks 🙌
Spectacular analysis - thoroughly enjoyed !!! subscribed
Welcome aboard!
Excellent , but needs repeat viewing to let it sink in and retain it as you put it..
Superb content as usual
Excellent Shankar
Thank you
Well said! Glad it was helpful
Simply brilliant. Abundant quality in content, style and insights on quant
Kudos.
Thanks a lot 😊 .. happy to know you found the topic and content useful
Great content, superb quality of graphics and the best presenter. Glad i found this channel so early. Thanks you Shankar for the hardwork and dedication.
Thank you very much, Sundaram
Namaste sir, i become fan of Your's after watching this video, great presentation sir
So nice of you. Thanks a lot
Excellent video sir .. But please give your opinion on these points
1) lesser AUM makes it convenient & easy for change of strategy. Inspite of huge over performance from past 3 years, AUM is very much low . Can they continue the same for higher AUM?
2) all the factors they are considering don't always seem quantitative.
Any one or 2 of them going wrong might lead to issues. So follow up continually & too much research is required for such performance
3) i feel 5-6 years of data is required
Bcoz it's not easy to continue such over performance over long term
Thank you
@@shankarnath thanks for your feedback sir 😀
Sir Your Channel Suggest by Share Acedmey , Ayaan Bhai , & I Found great knowledge in your channel
That's wonderful to know, Rakesh ji. Thanks for sharing, its always good when a fellow content creator & educator endorses content.

Thank You for making this video on Quant Mutual Funds Strategies
Most welcome
Take a bow sir ; explained so well
Thanks
Fabulous video
I was thinking about this for long time finally found answer
Great 👍 .. glad you found it useful
Awesome content quality sir.
Much appreciated. Thanks Manish
@@shankarnath more than your content your humbleness is getting one more subscriber to you. Stay the same.
Wonderfully enlightening content. Glad I have been following these posts. Thanks a lot for the great research.
My pleasure! Happy to know you found the video useful and enjoyable
Amazing presentation. Big fan of your style of explanation since ET Money videos taught me & gave interest about investing.
Much appreciated, Rohit! Happy to play a small part in your investing journey
The question is can they do this at a scale where the AUM of any scheme goes above 10,000 Cr?
Great teaching and content Sir... Even I was curious since a long time about how Quant outperforms in almost all equity categories... Your video answers this question... You taught quite a complicated concept in an easy and relatable way 😍 I like your video-editing, storytelling and the funny sketch that you played in the start 😃 I find your thumbnails also very funny and interesting, which almost always makes me watch your videos 😁... You are doing a great job Sir, please do keep it up 🙌
.
Happy to know my videos are playing a small part in your financial journey
You are right.
It was a very good and very insightful
. Thanks for such a good content.
My pleasure. Glad you liked it!
Very good content. Appreciating the simple explanations and quality content. Thanks Shankar Ji.
My pleasure. Thank you so much
Another excellent video ! I wish you cud hav brought some risk points as well with given strategies... that we shud consider if any !
Thanks 🙌
Hi Shankar, First our sincere prayers to our videographer of a great team. Really, content is more of very detailed technical & data analysis. Truly a good point on when to exit a fund / stock is like when to say NO in professional environment. This is what we miss out when we do portfolio rebalancing. Kindly throw some more light on when to exit.
Thanks Mukesh, the doctor has recommended 2 things - a) prayers and b) high returns. He's doing much better now
Yes, I'll research the different entry-exit models and come up with something workable. My first video (16% returns on smallcap) did the entry & exit part well and offered an alpha of 2-3% over the benchmark. I'm sure there are more such scenarios, will circle back.
Sir can you make a video regarding a roadmap like how does one get into asset management or fund management?
Yes. I have a plan to make a video on this, don't have a timeline but will surely have one
best thumbnails every vide top on the other
Thanks so much for the kind words! I'm really glad you enjoy the videos.
Excellent analysis
Thanks 🙌
Your content and presentation style is really good. Have learnt a lot from you. Keep up the great work Mr. Shankar
Thank you very much Chandan
Great content and presentation. Appreciate the efforts by the team.
Glad you liked it!
Amazing Editing Team and Concept..
Thx 🙌
Thanks best VDO about Quantity mutualfund
So nice of you. Most welcome
Thanks! Few ways to look at your questions that might help:
1. If Quant schemes continue this performance, their fund size will grow. Currently they are are 10,000+ crores of AUM and two more years of this, then even 40,000 crores is breachable. So I'll assume that's a given. The only way fund size will not grow is if their performance lags. So this high performance-low AUM scenario is a low probability scenario .. so I won't think much on those lines
2. Updations in the quant model is not in our control and Quant is not going to tell us what is happening at the backend. We have to watch for it and use prudent practices like not dedicating all our wealth to their investing model
@@shankarnath Thanks for the clarification 🙏
well researched information and lucid presentation in all your videos. Keep going.
How long does it take for you to research, consolidate, script, shoot and edit each video?
Thank you. It takes about 40 hours spread over 8 days
Research, Script & Review: 14 hours
Record: 2 hours
Pre-Editing Supporting Slides etc.: 8 hours
Editing: 10 hours
Peripheral work (like review, feedback, description, upload, thumbnails etc.) : 4 hours
Great content and nice insights! Thank you Mr. Shankar, keep doing the good work. Greetings from Germany.
Most welcome and my pleasure!
awesome content explained in a very easy way...
Thank you Gopal 🙌
The intro is zabardast, I hope your videographer recovers soon 😁
Much needed video coz everyone is speaking about Quant in all categories. Also, as of now their AUM seems to be of concern, but looking at the returns, many investors are turning towards Quant. Have to wait and watch. Thanks as always 😊
Thank you Sachin. Prayers and high returns is what the doctor is recommending :)

Jungle mein Quant ke elusive CEO, CFO, Fund Manager ko doondh rahe they... Profit, dividend, output, scheme novelty ke kaafi pyaase lag Rahe they.. Hope you & your videographer are okay after the gruelling ordeal...
Kudos, btw.. When do we get to see you in person in Delhi, where you give a talk on MF, Stocks, Personal Finance & achieving goals thru SIP?
1. Sher to jungle mein hi milega na? Yes, thanks! We are doing much better now. The doctor has advised two things - a) prayers and b) high returns. Viewers of this video are taking care of a) while Quant MF is delivering b)
2. Slightly buzy with my schedules. Will figure out something in a couple of months .. let the cold go away, unable to see the next tower (just 20 meters away) even at 8 am
For Flexi Cap i will still go for PPFAS , PGIM and for Mid Cap i will go for PGIM..Small Cap Still Looking between quant and nippon...
Which one you end up going ?
Great Content'..Saw your previous video on Quant also on ET & this is a level-up. Thank you for the great insights
Thank you Vinkal. Yes, there I kept myself to a couple of funds (Quant Active and Quant Small Cap). Essentially I looked inward there and in this video, I looked outward at the strategy rather than the portfolio. Glad you liked it :)
