Been there, 2 years ago I had a character bugged in Azshara DURING THE 15 YEAR EVENT and it cost me tons of the timewalking badges... and they finally fixed it after 3 days, and said they couldnt give me any of what I would've earned if not crashed. BUT.... There was a near bis Staff that dropped from 1 of the dragons, and this was like, better than most raid gear and an amazing transmog item too. And what dropped the first time I killed the dragon in Azshara while gitched? THE STAFF!!!! SO I think to this day that Blizzard threw me a bone :)

Back in Ulduar we got stuck on the Door after the guardians. Even though the trashmob was down, it didn’t open. Asked for a GM. 10 minutes Later a giant Illidan stood in front of the door. It opened, then he turned and yelled „it was not prepared“ and disappeared again.

One time I ran out of a dungeon when I was poisoned and I died on top of one of the tallest mushrooms in zangarmarsh (where I queued I guess?) I wandered around as a ghost for like 30 minutes trying to figure out how to get to my body, then I opened a ticket. A GM talked to me very nicely and understanding, and asked why I didn't use the return to life at graveyard thing, and I simply said I had never used that before, I always run to my body and I didnt want to take the armor damage. The GM put me back alive and gave me 20 gold! I felt really positive about GMs after that

When I was younger (not long after I started playing during TBC) I used to intentionally go and get myself stuck in the boat on that island off the coast of Auberdine every so often. The first time I did it was unintentional, and a super nice GM helped me out and we had a really nice chat. After that, he'd always recognise my ticket when I'd go and get myself stuck again. He'd come get me out and we'd regularly sit on that little island and just talk about random stuff.

Back then, GM's had to be logged into the game to communicate with players, which is the entire reason for GM Island to even exist. I remember doing the Arathi Highlands Horde quest where you kill the patrol that roams the main road and the NPC's head wouldnt drop. Then a GM transported me to the pirate cove down south. He was a Troll Priest, wasn't wearing the GM clothes. Then he made en entire show out of it, pretending to be searching his pockets for the quest item. Like a magician pulling things out of his hat, all sorts of effects for like 10 min. When he finally found the quest item and handed it to me, he teleported both of us both back to the questgiver in Hammerfall where he did some more theatrics before turning into a dragon whelp that started inflating like a hot air baloon turning red. Then he exploded into a massive ammounts of fireworks that almost crashed my PC and he was gone.

I remember perfectly when i was a small kid and didn't understand anything about the game I would often make GM tickets just asking very obvious stuff. For example one time I made my character drink a lot of alcoholic and I opened a ticket asking what was going on, why was everything so blurry and how long would it take to be fixed. The GM appeared and understanding I was just a kid just, in a very fun way and politely, explained to me all the in game effects of drinking alcohol (blurry vision, walk erratically, mobs showing with less level than they actually are, etc.) and I find it great that for something so minimal and unimportant a GM still got the time to chat with me for a bit and made for a very nice memory

I remember back when I was playing TBC as a 15 year old, I was pretty rubbish at the game and another player (a complete elitist) was being nasty to me in one of the dungeons (even though we were doing just fine). Another player in the party reported him, and a GM appeared within 15 minutes in my chat window and apologised to me, and told me the other player had been warned not to be such an ass. Everything was fine from there on that day. Back then I felt like my sub fee was really worth it.

Those GMs are people like you and me, and while they had to work, they always seemed to be friendly and had enought time to even joke with you. It`s really unfortunate that this practice died out, as it was appearently too expensive to hire the GMs and an automated, non-humane system was cheaper. The amount of nostalgia this brings back is amazing, and I love reading the stories of peoples interactions with GMs from back then.
One of my own fondest memories of WoW from when I was younger, was an interaction with a GM during TBC.
Was in Shadowmoon Valley, a quest involving a big crocodile in a lava river close to Black Temple.
He was bugged in a way where you could target him, but not attack him, so I contacted a GM about the issue.
Not long after I got a response, and the GM told me he would look into the issue. He proceeded to tell me to try some things out to find a fix, do a /dance, /rude and whatnot, just for giggles I assume. He then told me to try and do /point, and as soon as I did, the crocodile disappeared. The GM acted as being in panic, said "Oh what did you do! I will get in trouble for this." and so on. Of course I knew this to be a joke and had a good laugh, and the crocodile appeared moments later and was attackable once more.
We also had a good chat, and to this day is still one of the best memories I have about Blizzard support as it was once upon a time.. may that practice RIP in peace.

I downloaded Diablo 2 the other day, and it took over 2hours to download because my internet was bogged down that day, the game crashed every time i tried to play it. I had to open like 15 tickets asking for a refund and was told no every time, and that if I open more tickets they will delete my account. I told them thats BS to talk to a customer of 16 years like that, told them they are refusing to troubleshoot the issue or refund my money, 4 days later after opening a ticket with the BBB, I get a msg from a supervisor, who I had to ask for 5 times, who said we don't normally refund games that get played for more than two hours (which was 2 hours downloading) but we will make an exception this time and refund you.

I had a GM back in TBC days help me out in a very similar situation, I fell off Teldrassil after trying to look over the edge, and couldn't reach my body because it landed on a branch way, way down, although not all the way. At the time I was roughly 12 years old, and was unaware of spirit ressurection being a thing, I thought corpse running was the only way to get back to life. I therefore made a ticket trying to articulate to the best of my abilities (Non-native English) what had happen. Just a couple of minutes later, I got a whisper from a GM asking what the problem was, and I explained yet again what had occurred, and how. They went on to ress me roughly where I fell off (although further from the edge) and I thanked them for it. I can't seem to recall they told me about res sickness/ressing at the spirit healer, but I'd have to assume they did and I simply forgot that part of it. Either way, it was a very nice experience and it made me feel like they really cared about their players and their game.
It is unironically my best memory from those times, mostly as a result of my TBC experience at 12 was to hit lvl 70 and thought "I've beaten the game!", I had no idea about raids existing, and thought dungeons were purely for leveling purposes x) I only returned to WoW a few years later, with the release of cataclysm, which I immediately saw in a slightly negative light, because my 2nd best and fondest memory from those TBC times is Auberdine in Darkshore being the 'main hub' for night elves fresh off of Teldrassil, and how much time I'd spend there even as my leveling took me other places back when I was 12.. It was my hearthstone location all the way to level 70, and Deathwing destroyed it! >:(

This GM's math skills are bussin or whoever generated the question/answer. If 1/4 are green, 1/8 blue, 1/12 yellow, and the remaining 26 are white then you have to determine how many total balls there based on the fractions you are given. Mathematically the non white balls represent 45.83% (0.25+0.125+0.083), if you were to reverse formulate this problem you'd say (26/0.5417) which equals 47.999 (48). Which means the lowest possible number of small balls other than white is 22 balls, 48 total balls. There would be 12 green balls (48*0.25), 6 blue balls (48*0.125), and 4 yellow balls (48*.08). I remember I was pretty young either a pre-teen or young teen at the time. I'm an arachnophobe and I had a quest and no matter who I asked for help or how much I asked other players for help everyone brushed me off. A GM was according to them "Wandering around just checking things and people out"
They had noticed my character pacing back and forth infront of a spider area I had quests in and seen me messaging for quite awhile, and asked me if everything was alright. I told them about my arachnophobia and they told me to hang tight and wait there a minute. They then came back and made a whole show of me being their escort quest. And I acted the whole part even running back to my spot after combat which they got a good laugh out of. They helped me through my whole quest and even gave me a ride back to town and some gold for repairs, told me they didn't like spiders either so they fully understood. We chatted quite a lot and I told them about an old friend who I missed I made on the game, about his creepy friends but how sweet he was. How we'd sit around and have picnics in stormwind on the boats just chatting. And as I was young and that group was adults, I had to go. I had to cut off all contact, mom's orders, so I lost my friend.
About a month later I got a few mails on that same char from the GM and it was a dress gift wrapped and some bottles of alcohol telling me to meet them in goldshire, sent the same day.
I went to gold shire and they opened a trade window giving me cheese and bread and we had a whole picnic and even went fishing together. They told me they hoped I could meet that friend again, I never did but that simple gesture, them taking the time to do that meant the world to me. Its partially what helped me heal and move on from losing my friend.
I don't remember the GM's name, I wish I did so I could thank them properly as an adult. But if they happen to stumble on this video, if by any miracle they see all this. Thank you for everything you did. You are part of the reason world of warcraft was my escape through the abuse I was facing as a child and teen. Your small gesture gave me some hope that the world could still be kind to me. It was a huge gesture and even a sign as at the time I was religious. So it really helped me a lot to face what I was going through, so thank you. I wish you the best of health and luck. Please stay safe, I Platonically love you. You were my hero.

2021 customer service: "Your Overwatch account has been banned (for something you didn't do)"... call them... no answer. 5 tickets later... their actual response: "...even if we had someone to talk to you we wouldn't because our decision is final."

We also had a GM in legion help us unstuck on boss before guldan as someone was stunned and the GM who helped us ended up joining us for the Guldan kill! Was pretty cool!

This is something we've been rambling with my friends for years. Remembering how kind, and awesome the GMs were, working from within the game, those dudes were awesome. With the years, as it leaned more towards help desk common help, the GMs grew more and more careless, kindless, and overall they didn't give a fuck anymore. And mostly it wasn't their fault, I had a friend who worked as GM for years, and she complained constantly how the company kept removing access to things they could do in the past, and now they could do literally nothing but tell players to visit this "automated service" for their needs, even though it probably wouldn't solve their issues. She constantly complained about how much she wanted to help players who opened tickets asking for help, and how powerless she felt as she could not help them anymore. She eventually quit.

I remember back in Vanilla on Server Aerie Peak, about 5 days a week there was always a GM that stayed just in Elwynn Forest. He would be around to help whenever someone had a question or trouble with something but mostly he just stayed in Goldshire and had fun with everyone. There was also a GM in Westfall who I know of 3 people they helped with a certain thing, it was if a solo that was having a hard time doing the murloc or gnoll quests, he would go in and "thin the herd" a little bit to help. It use to be so much fun you didn't want to level and move on to new zones because of stuff like the GM's doing a fightclub in goldshire or footraces around redridge. But FF14 has been awesome the last month. Not quite the magic of OG WoW but it is pretty damn good. Lightyears ahead of current WoW. It was hard to say goodbye to all my old characters and Classic/TBCC characters, but an MMO is no fun if there is hardly anyone to have fun with.

This was what players were looking for in TBC classic, but instead they found themself buying boosts so the leveling experience can be entirely skipped, grinding reps in dungeons over and over, rofl stomped by multi rank 1 players in arenas.
The game was just more enjoyable when everyone was a noob.

Good times, good people... One day, we were with a group to run Scarlet Monestary, and as we were hyping ourselves up, a GM sent a message in our group saying Good Luck. We were freaking out and so happy, we got to chat with him for a minute before he left for another ticket. One of the best WoW memory i have.

its sad but true , they got rid of Gm's now days and replaced by their stupid automatic support
they killed the verry social aspect of the game
back then GMs would morph your raid to merlocs to enterain while waiting for them to fix a bugged encounter
