It was a rubber washer that let it teeter totter just slightly. It was under the key around the metal post easy fix. I appreciate the info.!!!!

how do you replace the top? I have the glue and a clamp for the head, but no idea how to position them

This might be a stupid question, but do the black keys come out the same way? I have an upright where one of the black keys is broken -- and I think just needs some wood glue and a clamp to get it put back together. But I need to get that key out first.
