1:44 - 1:52 One thing I love about this sequence, besides his raw destructive presence, is that Deathwing's roar always sounds like both a scream of rage and a scream of pain. Very character appropriate; kudos to the sound engineers (as usual!).
Deathwing didn't just emerge into the world. He _erupted_ into the world. He was a living, breathing cataclysm, from the moment he first breached the surface.
"Pain... Agony... My hatred burns through the cavernous deeps. The world heaves with my torment. Its wretched kingdoms quake beneath my rage. But at last... The whole of Azeroth will break... And all will burn beneath the shadow of my wings." I love this speech and the voice :D Favourite Warcraft character.
Deathwing used to be fun to hang around with. He and his buddies Alduin and Smaug would go out, raze a few villages, smoke some Old Toby, mock Ur Dragon for being so unpopular and Ender Dragon for being so blocky, pretty much enjoying being dragons. Ever since he got rich from Cataclysm he thinks he's too good for them and would rather leave them hanging to be Blue Eyes' plus one to the KaibaCorp soiree. Alduin felt betrayed and vented by trying to eat Tamriel while Smaug became a recluse in someone else's home. No one has heard from them since.
Deathwing was a villain when WoW was a normal game and bosses had impact on the story/lore Sargeras was the main villain when WoW was an anime starring Illiadin
@@cxyte814 Okay, but Legion was the better expansion. Everything Cata did right with Deathwing starts and ends with this cinematic. Dragon Soul might be the worst raid in the game. And so many leveling quests in the post-Cata 1-60 zones are easily broken by normal gameplay (looking at you, Horde-side Ashenvale on druid). The only good thing Cata really gave us was the Worgen starting zone. Legion on the other hand had incredible class fantasy, some of the best raids to date, and consistently beefy patches at frequent intervals. Remember Suramar? Remember getting basically an entire expansion's worth of new story to accompany the new zone? I don't think any patch ever has or will rival how fantastic it was to get Suramar mid-xpac.
Keep in mind that deathwing was not depressed but driven mad by the same people who drove sargeras mad so they work for the same team but neltharion was already on azeroth while sargeras first had to find a way to azeroth so I think it's no surprise neltharion could do more damage ^^

As a non-player, this is probably my favorite WoW cinematic. Several reasons why. - I'm a sucker for orchestral music that's aggressive and relentless; this one hits both without breaking a sweat. - Deathwing's roar is distinct, an accomplishment I feel is pretty rare these days. If this played during a commercial, I'd recognize that sound immediately. - I love the fact the trailer doesn't present us with a character so much as a force of nature. This is meant to showcase an event and it *feels* like it. - The color palette is brilliant, notably how they juxtapose the soft colors of sunset with the hellish light of Deathwing. - The cinematography is stellar, unabashedly cinematic and visceral to a fault; there's undeniable size, weight, and power to what's unfolding.
Atte Gröhn Next up: sylvanas breaks one of the best lore and there is no longer a Litch King. Imagine if one person could stop the scourge. Oh wait that bs already happened .
I remember leveling my hunter in the Western Plaguelands and seeing Deathwing fly above me. I miss the times when bosses made me feel like an ant in comparison. Illidan, Arthas, Deathwing. I still enjoy WoW, but I can't help but feel nostalgic about getting killed by Deathwing, just from him flying past me and burning every level 40 in the biome. Insane immersion.
I’m here to tell you Fyrakk currently does this in Dragonflight. He flies through the zones and burns anyone around him to death. You can get an achievement from dying to him lol
Nop you are right...he was way more intimidating. Just looking at him in cutscenes made a chill run down my spine. Knowing he is in the same zone as my character was utter terror. Personally, i felt a constant pressure, that he appears.
Arthas is just Darth Vader on steroids and PCP, and more than just a touch of necromantic power. Look at all the parallels between their stories. Take note; that is not a bad thing. Darth Vader is badass.
Smith worker: "Yeah, next time we have to put an armor on a gigantic world destroying dragon, let's just dip the superheated armor plates in cool water first to avoid pissing him off".

I'm probably the only one, but you know what I would've liked? If they kept the old zones until level 80, then the whole Cataclysm happens and you could chose to level in the new zones or the now destroyed, revamped old zones. This way you could still enjoy the old content _and_ the new content.
Better yet, there needs to be a phase tech for that. Nothing Cata or other expansions appear TILL you get to the level. I believe Chris Metzan even said the levels are really your 'timeline'.

I've never thought about this until now. But apparently Deathwing screams in pain when hot metal is attached to his skin, but he can sit in a pool of lava just fine.
It's not so much hot metal attaching to his skin than it is a giant metal bandage forcibly holding his form together for the first time in eons. Ever since his first use of the Dragon Soul caused his body to practically rip itself apart from the fiery corruption now perpetually burning within him, he is in a state of eternal agony. Having that one strip of metal get seared across his sundered flesh probably added to the pain.
As somebody who played cata literally a hour after launch, I don't understand the hate for the expansion. Content was challenging 2 new races Questing reworked and many more.
+DoomCorrupted People have their own reasons for it. Sad as it is, there's nothing we can do to get people to change their minds. It's their choice weather to like something or not.
+Nervakis I honestly believe if the talents were not changed then it would've gotten a lot less hate. Whether you think it was a good or bad thing to do doesn't matter. The change to the core of all the classes put a lot of people off. Classes changed from xpac to xpac before; but the biggest leap happened from Wrath to Cata imo.
Thrall takes too much credit in this expansion. In my opinion, the true champ of this expansion was the Skyfire gunship. Think about it! Somehow it was able to catch up with Deathwing in the most critical moment, even after taking damage and being slowed by Blackhorn.
+Galejro Being a tank was incredible during Cata's pre-nerf launch! Instant queues with bonuses at select times (the longest I waited for a queue was 5 minutes at 3 a.m. for a specific dungeon.) I geared up so quickly and had so much more skill than the majority of tanks. Back then, skilled accounted for something. It was this BS Candy Crush Saga "check all the right boxes" game design that's compatible with the majority of people. There was a gradient of skill that you progressed through and you were thanked by your raid and your 5-man dungeon content (the latter of which remained relevant through pre-nerf unlike the new 5-mans.)

Sure, the old gods did corrupt him and made him more...tentaclish(?), but the outcome was quite different what I was expecting when they first revealed the Cataclysm expansion and its antagonist.

Deathwing in all his terrifying, mind numbing, soul searing and heart rending malificence, the zones were awesome in their complexity and diversity, loved the boss fights, absolutely fantastic!

You can't hate blizzard trailers. That's one thing they probably never fail. They are just good or less good, like burning crusade, maybe. I just didn't like they way they rolled, after that, entire trailers were about the story.

I don't know if its true or not but someone said that what he was smoking was some kind of an essence of an old god which kinda makes sense cause he was corrupted by an old god.
2 serious questions: 1. - Deathwing's armor is scaling with his body so when he transforms into humanoid person he would be still wearing the armor. So why the hell they spent so much iron for covering his scars if they could use only one single goblin to melt down iron cap and attach it to Deathwing in humanoid form :D 2. - What happend 5 sec after this cinematic? He was going over SW city's bridge and put down one statue. 2 more steps and he would destroy another one and in 10 seconds whole entrance would miss the statues. So he teleported somewhere else or what happend that there was only one down? :D
I hate to join the fray of comments but the way I see it is like this. A lot of people that say Blizzard ruined WoW after WoTLK seem to be riding on the good memories and nostalgia stirred up by these trailers. Blizzard wanted a new audience and more subscribers so they had to start changing the game. The people that complain about how terrible the game is after all of the change would probably complain about how the game never changes had Blizzard stayed on the same track. A game this old needs to evolve and adapt to it's audience. I'm sure that there are tons of mechanics that the developers have introduced that you are actually quite happy to have and if not, go play something else. Don't sit and whine on the doorstep of the girl you once loved, go out and find someone new. The world is a very different place today than it was ten years ago and things need to change. Look at a game like Battlefield for example. People complain that they are just pumping out a new polished version of the previous game every year and taking the customers money. Wouldn't you been annoyed if Blizzard took our hard earned money and never did anything different with it?

i felt the deathwing fight should have been like Onxyia back in the day... just a giant dragon and you have to dodge the tail and have fire resist (onxyia's skin) I remember wearing that lv 55 cape at lv 80 when they raised onxyia... resists arent even in the game anymore are they?
I've had multiple nightmares about Deathwing breaking through my wall and melting me alive with fire, absolutely terrifying. Hope we get a dragon boss soon. Cata was the best they've done of having an end boss feel like a threat constantly.

I remember when I first played cataclysm and watched the cinematic trailer for the expansion, I ligit watched it over and over because of how beast deathwing was. I was amazed at what he did to Azeroth. It is still to this day, my favorite cinematic trailer for world of Warcraft
This expansion was the nail in the coffin of WoW. Followed up on WoTLK's abomination that was Dungeon Finder with a freaking Raid Finder, caved in within a month or two and nerfed all PVE content into the ground because the casuals whined they couldn't instantly and effortlessly clear every piece of content in the game. Oh, and it introduced homogenization on a stupendous level, stripping away any remotely unique mechanics from each class and replacing them with the generic hard CC/disable etc until all classes were basically the same gameplay wise. People think Pandaclysm ruined WoW, but it truely died before then.

I remember leveling my hunter in the Western Plaguelands and seeing Deathwing fly above me. I miss the times when bosses made me feel like an ant in comparison. Illidan, Arthas, Deathwing. I still enjoy WoW, but I can't help but feel nostalgic about getting killed by Deathwing, just from him flying past me and burning every level 40 in the biome. Insane immersion.

Nop you are right...he was way more intimidating. Just looking at him in cutscenes made a chill run down my spine. Knowing he is in the same zone as my character was utter terror. Personally, i felt a constant pressure, that he appears.

I'm probably the only one, but you know what I would've liked? If they kept the old zones until level 80, then the whole Cataclysm happens and you could chose to level in the new zones or the now destroyed, revamped old zones. This way you could still enjoy the old content _and_ the new content.
Better yet, there needs to be a phase tech for that. Nothing Cata or other expansions appear TILL you get to the level. I believe Chris Metzan even said the levels are really your 'timeline'.

Now that we live in a post Pandaria and Draenor world, Cata really doesn't seem that bad.
Pandaria was a good expansion for those whose masculinity and maturity wasn't threatened by Pandas
***** I will admit, the biggest problem with all three of them was lack of content before the next expansion, and Siege of Orgrimmar was a much better raid than Dragon Soul, so my criticism is mostly directed towards WoD, which has the least amount of content so far. 3 raids for the entire expansion? That is the same amount that Pandaria started with, and Cata started with 4, if you count Baradin Hold.

I've never thought about this until now. But apparently Deathwing screams in pain when hot metal is attached to his skin, but he can sit in a pool of lava just fine.

It's not so much hot metal attaching to his skin than it is a giant metal bandage forcibly holding his form together for the first time in eons. Ever since his first use of the Dragon Soul caused his body to practically rip itself apart from the fiery corruption now perpetually burning within him, he is in a state of eternal agony. Having that one strip of metal get seared across his sundered flesh probably added to the pain.

As somebody who played cata literally a hour after launch, I don't understand the hate for the expansion.
Content was challenging
2 new races
Questing reworked
and many more.
A lot of people had max characters so the questing revamp was "lost content" to them and the last raid tier the last 2 fights sucked

The change to the core of all the classes put a lot of people off. Classes changed from xpac to xpac before; but the biggest leap happened from Wrath to Cata imo.

Thrall takes too much credit in this expansion. In my opinion, the true champ of this expansion was the Skyfire gunship. Think about it! Somehow it was able to catch up with Deathwing in the most critical moment, even after taking damage and being slowed by Blackhorn.

+Galejro Being a tank was incredible during Cata's pre-nerf launch! Instant queues with bonuses at select times (the longest I waited for a queue was 5 minutes at 3 a.m. for a specific dungeon.) I geared up so quickly and had so much more skill than the majority of tanks.
Back then, skilled accounted for something. It was this BS Candy Crush Saga "check all the right boxes" game design that's compatible with the majority of people. There was a gradient of skill that you progressed through and you were thanked by your raid and your 5-man dungeon content (the latter of which remained relevant through pre-nerf unlike the new 5-mans.)

Deathwing in all his terrifying, mind numbing, soul searing and heart rending malificence, the zones were awesome in their complexity and diversity, loved the boss fights, absolutely fantastic!
While the expansion was polarizing, Deathwing is arguably the best looking character Blizzard has ever designed for WoW.

I remember BARELY getting into WoW at the end of WotLK and seeing this. This STILL gives me goosebumps
2 serious questions:
1. - Deathwing's armor is scaling with his body so when he transforms into humanoid person he would be still wearing the armor. So why the hell they spent so much iron for covering his scars if they could use only one single goblin to melt down iron cap and attach it to Deathwing in humanoid form :D
2. - What happend 5 sec after this cinematic? He was going over SW city's bridge and put down one statue. 2 more steps and he would destroy another one and in 10 seconds whole entrance would miss the statues. So he teleported somewhere else or what happend that there was only one down? :D

I hate to join the fray of comments but the way I see it is like this.
A lot of people that say Blizzard ruined WoW after WoTLK seem to be riding on the good memories and nostalgia stirred up by these trailers. Blizzard wanted a new audience and more subscribers so they had to start changing the game. The people that complain about how terrible the game is after all of the change would probably complain about how the game never changes had Blizzard stayed on the same track. A game this old needs to evolve and adapt to it's audience. I'm sure that there are tons of mechanics that the developers have introduced that you are actually quite happy to have and if not, go play something else. Don't sit and whine on the doorstep of the girl you once loved, go out and find someone new. The world is a very different place today than it was ten years ago and things need to change. Look at a game like Battlefield for example. People complain that they are just pumping out a new polished version of the previous game every year and taking the customers money. Wouldn't you been annoyed if Blizzard took our hard earned money and never did anything different with it?

cataclysm was really a giant missed opportunity, so many options for amazing fights just thrown away. only good counters of cata IMO were raggy, nef and twilight council
ntabiblaze but if you think about it, every boss we fight is gigantic so we're very professional at trimming their toenails.
i felt the deathwing fight should have been like Onxyia back in the day... just a giant dragon and you have to dodge the tail and have fire resist (onxyia's skin) I remember wearing that lv 55 cape at lv 80 when they raised onxyia... resists arent even in the game anymore are they?

I've had multiple nightmares about Deathwing breaking through my wall and melting me alive with fire, absolutely terrifying. Hope we get a dragon boss soon. Cata was the best they've done of having an end boss feel like a threat constantly.

There's this amazing picture of Ancalagon out there, towering above the peaks of Thangorodrim. His claws are half the size of the mountains, and a much closer dragon still looks bug-sized in comparison.

I remember when I first played cataclysm and watched the cinematic trailer for the expansion, I ligit watched it over and over because of how beast deathwing was. I was amazed at what he did to Azeroth.

This expansion was the nail in the coffin of WoW. Followed up on WoTLK's abomination that was Dungeon Finder with a freaking Raid Finder, caved in within a month or two and nerfed all PVE content into the ground because the casuals whined they couldn't instantly and effortlessly clear every piece of content in the game. Oh, and it introduced homogenization on a stupendous level, stripping away any remotely unique mechanics from each class and replacing them with the generic hard CC/disable etc until all classes were basically the same gameplay wise.
People think Pandaclysm ruined WoW, but it truely died before then.
