Great video Corey! I applaud you for doing the Lord's work and studying the Scriptures. Although, I do believe that here you made a wrong conclusion. I say that because the entire passage is talking about believers, to conclude that Ananias and Sapphira aren't believers is to read something into the text that is not there (eisegesis). And yes, I certainly realize that the "but" in the Acts 5:1 is there to make a contrast. But the contrast is being made amongst the believing ones, not believing ones and unbelieving ones. Ananias and Sapphira are amongst the believing ones. As a further matter, there is nothing in Acts 4:32-37 that suggests that the believers were forced to sell their property and land, it was only so that they would have all things in common. In light of the context of the passage, it very much seems that Ananias's sin was lying to God after having made a commitment when he was under no obligation to do so in the first place; his yes should have been yes, or his no should have been no. Ananias, like the other believers, brought his proceeds to the Apostles although not all his proceeds, thus his sin was lying not unbelief. Admittedly, there are no passages in Scripture that I am aware of that says definitively that unbelievers can't lie to the Holy Spirit. However, there is a plethora of passages that make it crystal clear that unbelievers do not have the Holy Spirit and therefore are not in Christ, most notably Romans 8:9-11. Unfortunately, Ananias and Sapphira committed a sin that led unto death, but that does not suggest that they were unbelievers, it only suggests that God judged them harshly for their actions. I agree with you on quite a few things Brother, but not this time. Nonetheless, love the channel and keep doing your thing and I'll keep watching. Blessings to you and yours and Happy New Year!
this is what happens when Godless philosophers and self-acclaimed literary experts read the bible. you get people who can read plainly what the scripture is saying, and still manage to get it all wrong. Ananias and Sapphira were not unbelievers. please, if you are seeing this comment, let us pray that this brother has a genuine encounter with Jesus.
Let me say Pastor Corey I enjoy your videos. My thoughts is that the sin that resulted in instant judgment was not that the sold the land and kept some of the proceeds but they lied to the Holy Spirit. That seems to be what Peter emphasized there amongst all the believers. I believe that God will in some cases kill the body to save the soul. Peter’s tone feels like they were counted with them but made a terrible error which was lying to the Holy Spirit. It seems to me like God made an example of how serious lying to the Holy Spirit is. Again love your videos.
why would the apostles allow unbelievers to bring money to the church? only the believers shared together in common, not with unbelievers. from the Scripture it can seen that Peter knew these people by name / was revealed to him by The Holy Spirit. if they were unbelievers, wouldn't it be more appropriate to lead them to Jesus? the same apostle (Peter) wrote that judgment must begin at the house of God ... at us (1-Pet 4^17). and why would fear come on the church if only unbelievers get punished for sin? i don't think that God expect unbelievers to live holy, but rather to come to repentance. according to the same apostle (Peter) believers are expected to become holy in all conduct and live in fear (1-Pet 1^15-17).
Do you think that everyone who gives to the Church today is a believer? People give for various reasons. You are making the assumption that the Apostles knew beforehand that Ananias and Sapphira were not true believers. Their holding back is what revealed their heart as not being believers. You are asking questions with the benefit of having the text of the account of what happened. When it was happening real time and these believers are new (babes), they do not know everything. They needed to grow in their understanding of grace for the believer and Jesus's promises to the believer. Just how new believers today need to grow in their understanding.
I believe they were saved. The text never said they were unbelievers. The “But” means…or is showing they were dishonest about how much they actually. gave on the sale of their property and therefore was punished greatly for it. Still to this day, Christians can get greedy and lie. If they repent, God will forgive them, but that doesn’t mean that they were not saved from the beginning.
@@rozznel8692 The same reason why churches today allow non-believers to give money. Also, Acts 5:11 clearly states: 11 Great fear seized the whole church and all who heard about these events. So fear came upon both believers and non-believers. As to whether the couple were truly believers or not, I don’t know. But to me, it doesn’t matter because even without this account, scripture shows that God punished both believers and non-believers.
By GotQuestions Were Ananias and Sapphira saved? We believe they probably were. Their story is told in the context of the actions of “all the believers” (Acts 4:32). They knew of the Holy Spirit (Acts 5:3), and Ananias’s lie could have been an earlier promise that he would give the whole amount of the sale to the Lord. But the best evidence that they were children of God may be that they received discipline: “If you are not disciplined-and everyone undergoes discipline-then you are not legitimate, not true sons and daughters at all” (Hebrews 12:8; see also 1 Corinthians 5:12). Ananias and his wife had conspired to garner the accolades of the church; but their conspiracy led to the sin unto death.
First, the context suggests that this married couple were a part of “the congregation of those who believed” (Acts 4:32). At no point does Luke represent them as being those outside the Church; rather, they are seemingly portrayed as those being under the authority of the Apostles to the extent that Peter himself pronounces judgment over them. Second, Ananias and Sapphira are charged with lying to the Holy Spirit and putting Him to the test (5:3, 9). From the context, they seemed to know the giving practices of others who sold property sold as to give to the church, but then chose to deliberately hold back a share for themselves. By committing this sinful deception in their relationship with believers, they by extension deceived the Holy Spirit. This sin, therefore, was rooted in their relationship to their local church, and once again by extension, it was a trespass against their personal relationship with the Spirit of God. Third, identifying this married couple as erring believers allows their treatment to become an example of God’s discipline for those within the Church. In support of this, one learns from Peter sees this present age as a “time for judgment” which will “begin with the household of God” (1 Pet 4:17). In Acts, Ananias and Sapphira’s sinful actions were performed within the context of their relationship to the Church. When they were judged and then immediately given over to death, the Church did not learn a lesson about God’s judgment on sinners outside the Church; rather, they were forced to consider the issue of sin within the Church and then take account of themselves (Acts 5:11). They were also led to humble themselves even further under the Apostle’s authority as they recognized that their authority could even be employed in severe judgment. Fourth, the presumed inclusion of Ananias and Sapphira in the Acts 2 Church offers strong proof that they were indeed saved. To see this, one must consider the case of Simon the magician. According to Luke, he “believed Philip” when he was “preaching the good news,” and then received baptism (8:12-13). Later, when Peter and John arrived, they refused to bestow upon him the Holy Spirit “through the laying on of [their] hands” for Simon remained unredeemed (8:17-23). Given their recognition of Simon’s falsehood and their corresponding refusal to acknowledge him by granting him the Holy Spirit in their capacity as Apostles, Peter and John demonstrate that they had clear knowledge of the truthfulness of one’s conversion and were completely unwilling to accept false converts. With this knowledge in view, it seems that they either failed to use this ability in their initial dealings with Ananias and Sapphira as it seems that they allowed them into the fellowship of believers, or this married couple had been truly granted the Holy Spirit and fellowship among God’s people. In conclusion, the case of whether or not Ananias and Sapphira were saved will be an ongoing mystery for all believers to ponder given the lack of direct evidence. Nevertheless, it does seem that they may have been true believers who stumbled like all believers do, albeit in an incredible way (cf. James 3:2). Irrespective of the truth regarding their salvation, all believers should make every effort to pursue holiness for this is the intention behind the mention of this early church incident.
Andrew your analysis of this husband and wife team is excellent and I agree with you 💯 percent. I truly believe they both were born again believers and that is why their judgement was so swift. The Bowtie Professor!
The particle δε (de) indicates a mild objection or simple transition and can sometimes be translated with "but" or "indeed, but" or "also". More often, however, it carries the mere force of a sentence's natural progression and as a result leaves little to be translated in English. Hebrew has a silent particle like that as well, albeit of slightly different function and origin: את ('et).
The text can also be interpreted as A and S being the exceptions to the rule that none of the believers (in general) considered their belongings to be their own. Why else would Luke bother to mention them as an example? Also, creating a rule that believers equal those who do not consider their belongings as their own, historically would exclude 99% of all believers. Further, if they were not believers, why did they join the Church in the first place? They had everything to lose, it seems. And why did they bother to sell, if they didn't believe? He kept back part of the money for himself, which means that he didn't keep all the money. Just a small part, it seems. Perhaps he didn't consider it theft. After all, it was his money. But Peter lets him know God's perspective on the matter and sets an example for the whole congregation. How many of us, so-called believers haven't made similar mistakes or have had similar thought processes regarding our own sins? This is not a lesson in who's saved or not, but in what can happen if we think we're smarter than God and how certain sins may impact the Church. If God had to set an example by killing the couple, it means the Church i.e. the believers, were endangered by this action, which means it could have spread and contaminated the Church. Now, according to your theology, this would be impossible. Maybe it's a bit simplistic to make the kind of theology you're aiming for. Maybe it's not that black and white.
i think they where believiers but they lied saying they gave it all nobody in the congregation knew But the Holy spirit revived it to peter there real heart in the matter GOD SEE>S ALL and knows
If you don’t think that God would ever judge the church in such a way you have to say that they weren’t Christian’s to ease your conscious. If you keep reading the text fear came over the whole church as a result of what happened because they chose to put the Spirit of the Lord to the test. The idea of putting the Lord of the test is confirmed with what Paul warns the church of Corinth not to do in 1 Corin 10:9 which reads, “ Nor let us try the Lord as some of them did, and were destroyed by serpents.” God is Holy and judgement starts in the house. 1 Corin 10 (written to believers) reminds us to not follow the same cravings as Israel did for a reason. Shalom and God bless.
( But ) In most English Bible translations, words added by translators to clarify meaning are typically indicated by italics; this signifies that the original Hebrew, or Greek text did not explicitly contain that word, but it was added to make the translation flow smoothly in English
Ανὴρ Ανὴρ δέ τις Ἁνανίας ὀνόματιτις Ἁνανίας ὀνόματι. This is the beginning or 5:1 in the Greek. You'll notice the word δέ which in this verse means "but". So it was not added. You also referenced "got questions". You'll notice they too failed to state what Luke said about ALL OF THE BELIEVERS, and that NOT ONE OF THEM (the believers) held anything back. Also, pointing out that God disciplines his children, does not negate that He also punishes unbelievers as well.(Judas was chosen because he was wicked, though he was a disciple God still punished him. or even Herod) Even if a person is in the position of a priest does not mean he is a true follower (See Hophni and Phineas) There simply is no way to get past a believer with the Holy Spirit also having his heart filled with Satan. There is no way to get around the description of ALL THE BELIEVERS.
@@smartchristians Matthew Henry's Concise Commentary 5:1-11 The sin of Ananias and Sapphira was, that they were ambitious of being thought eminent disciples, when they were not true disciples. Hypocrites may deny themselves, may forego their worldly advantage in one instance, with a prospect of finding their account in something else. They were covetous of the wealth of the world, and distrustful of God and his providence. They thought they might serve both God and mammon. They thought to deceive the apostles. The Spirit of God in Peter discerned the principle of unbelief reigning in the heart of Ananias. But whatever Satan might suggest, he could not have filled the heart of Ananias with this wickedness had he not been consenting. The falsehood was an attempt to deceive the Spirit of truth, who so manifestly spoke and acted by the apostles. The crime of Ananias was not his retaining part of the price of the land; he might have kept it all, had he pleased; but his endeavouring to impose upon the apostles with an awful lie, from a desire to make a vain show, joined with covetousness. But if we think to put a cheat upon God, we shall put a fatal cheat upon our own souls. How sad to see those relations who should quicken one another to that which is good, hardening one another in that which is evil! And this punishment was in reality mercy to vast numbers. It would cause strict self-examination, prayer, and dread of hypocrisy, covetousness, and vain-glory, and it should still do so. It would prevent the increase of false professors. Let us learn hence how hateful falsehood is to the God of truth, and not only shun a direct lie, but all advantages from the use of doubtful expressions, and double meaning in our speech.
Great video! Another good person in Acts to analyze is Simon the sorcerer. Some would say he was saved. After all, he was baptized(which is a good reason to analyze him and Peter's rebuke of him for those who think baptism is salvation). I have already shown my hand regarding what I think of Simon, but I will refrain from saying further.
You are so annoying asking for the same thing! Why don't you grow up! Me me me me me me Pray for me. Me. Me. Me. Me. Me. Me. Me. My. My. My. My You are so needy it's ridiculous and absurd. You need to grow up! You are stupid. Simple
Heavenly Father l pray for Gola's husband and her two sons Chris and Nick, that You prick their hearts which will cause all three of them to accept Jesus Christ as both Savior and Lord of their lives. Time is running out and these three men need to get saved so that they can spend eternity with You, and ask this in Jesus's name amen. The Bowtie Professor!
I believe the husband and wife disobeyed by holding back a part from what they were told to give and therefore grieving the Holy Spirit. I also think if they were not believers, they would not be punished in such severe way. In my opinion they knew better but they made greed got A whole of their hearts. In these days we have to be careful what we do and what we hold back from the Lord because He knows all things and He knows the hearts of man. A sheep can stray from the shepherd. That’s my humble opinion.
They did not disobey because they did not give all, it was because they lied about it. They held back thinking nobody would know. It was a secret sin that was exposed. If they would have said that they were only giving half or a certain amount that would have been fine. They tried to deceive Peter but the Holy Spirit revealed the truth and brought instant judgement for their lying.
I'm sorry Corey I'm not agreeing with you. Just because all of the other believers sold all they had doesn't mean other believers like Ananias and his wife were required to do so. Peter also says the same thing when he says that their properties belonged to them and could give to the apostles what they wanted. They weren't required to give everything or anything at all. All giving was voluntary. The sin was simply because they sold the property and claimed they gave them all the proceeds of the sale when they didn't. This is made clear in the scriptures.
There's 3 examples of the giving in chapter 4 & 5. First, it mentions all gave (Acts 4:32-35). Second, Barnabas (also known as Jose) had land that he sold (Acts 4:36-37), and Third, Ananias and his wife Sapphira sold their possessions (Acts 5:1). Three different accounts of the same event. They all believed, but just because you believe does not mean that you can not be deceived by Satan to hold back. Happens to most likely to all Believers. After they believed, Scriptures say that it was Satan that put that though in their hearts (vv 3-4). Similar to what happened to Judas (Luke 22:3 )and Peter (Matthew 16:23). In most of Paul's letters to the Church he is trying to convince them to repent from their wicked actions (that the devil deceived them of) and turn back to God. They were saved, but they backslide into their old way and even worse.
@@smartchristians What about Jose, was he with all the Believers, why does the text talk about him separately? The first part of the giving tells that all believed in the message that Peter preached, especially after seeing the miracles, however; even though they all believed, to include Jose, the devil was in the mist waiting for an opportunity to put sin in the mind of the individual(s), A and S just happen to fall for the deception, the spirit of greed took over their heart, they took their eyes off of the mark. It has happened throughout history and it still happens today. Adam and Eve had a wonderful relationship with God but they were deceived of the devil to sin against God. Peter sinned against God and man when he acted like an hypocrite, fellowshipping with Gentiles, but when Jews from Jerusalem came he separated himself and endorsed other Jews with him to do the same. Paul himself in front of everyone exposed his sin of hypocrisy: Galations 2: 11 But when Peter came to Antioch, I had to oppose him to his face, for what he did was very wrong. 12 When he first arrived, he ate with the Gentile believers, who were not circumcised. But afterward, when some friends of James came, Peter wouldn’t eat with the Gentiles anymore. He was afraid of criticism from these people who insisted on the necessity of circumcision. 13 As a result, other Jewish believers followed Peter’s hypocrisy, and even Barnabas was led astray by their hypocrisy.14 When I saw that they were not following the truth of the gospel message, I said to Peter in front of all the others, “Since you, a Jew by birth, have discarded the Jewish laws and are living like a Gentile, why are you now trying to make these Gentiles follow the Jewish traditions?
@@smartchristians We are saved by faith alone not works. By their hearts they believed unto salvation and they were chastened for their evil deeds. As a believer, have you sold all your possession and given to the poor??
They were believers. They were part of the body that is why they were there. They departed from what the other believers were doing. Acts 5:3 But Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost, and to keep back part of the price of the land?.. Satan filled their heart. Unbelievers do not know who the holy ghost is in order to lie to the spirit of God in the first place. Ananias and safari may have had a Judas moment of betrayal here. This is what I see. They saw what the believers did they wanted to do the same but the devil filled their hearts with holding back the money and they followed and lost their lives. Unbeliever do not know the Holy Ghost.
Peter did not acknowledge them as unbelievers. They were part of the congregation and was rebuked for their heart condition which was opposing everyone elses.
Luke who is telling the story tells us what ALL of the believers did. Was Luke wrong? Maybe Luke meant to say MOST of the believers? Or maybe the text is clear and ALL of the believers gave and held nothing back BUT Ananias and his wife were not believers
They were believers, newbies maybe🤷🏾♀️, but they were definitely saved. They were just liars and deceitful just like some believers are today .... They could have just sold what they had and kept what they wanted to keep and told the TRUTH but instead came up with an elaborate scheme thinking they could deceive the Holy Spirit not knowing the power of the Holy Spirit is to reveal !
the congregation did not know until the HOLY SPIRIT REVEALED IT this could of created a major stumbling block to the other believers that these two interact with > i was around a christian couple like this my wife and i looked up to them but they where always decieving people my wife will not set foot in a church because of a couple like this whats bad is it took us years before we realized it far as i know there still at that church
I said the power of the Holy Spirit is to REVEAL.... A & S didn't know that . And I agree Christian folks do these types of things which further let us know A&S were believers they were Liars and deceptive
This is interesting because if this one act of sin means they were unbelievers then none of us are believers. We as Gods children still sin, this is why we are to always have a heart of repentance on a daily basis. I think it was Vernon McGee who once said that God will use death to persevere a believer if necessary. Only God knows his children. All believers struggle with sin in one way or another in this life and conclusions like this one can cause them to struggle more.
Their is a difference between willfully sinning ,a plan to sin, and sinning by mistake , stealing to eat , killing to save a life , telling a lie to save a life
@@arsynoeford9638Its all sin that requires repentance. As Christians, all sin is willful to some extent because we confess faith in Christ yet still sin knowing the word of God and how much sin grieves him. We have all prayed to God in repentance for some sin(s) repeated that sin and asked for forgiveness. We are going through sanctification thanks be to God! As we mature in our faith, we should sin less, but we will still sin. God will forgive us when we come to him in repentance. To me this is more about church discipline.
The act of the sin did not turn them into unbelievers. They were among the congregation but the attempted deception is what got them caught by Peter before their spontaneous deaths. The act simply showed their true colors, not that they were believers before who became unbelievers.
But Peter said, “Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and to keep back for yourself part of the proceeds of the land? This is interpreted as them believing but were deceived by their own lust and desires. So, they were Believers.
Satan can't fill the heart of any believer....Jesus prayed to the Father in John 17:15-18 that believers be kept from the evil one (Satan). Satan cannot fill the heart of anyone who is born of God (1 John 5). Furthermore, because they are born of God, they (believers) overcome the world and the evil one cannot touch them (1 John 5:18-20) therefore, they (Ananias and Saphira) were NOT believers. Its the same as Judas Iscariot, Satan entered him (Luke 22:3) to go and meet with the chief priests to betray Jesus. Judas was not a believer.
@kevinhill3225 we all are believing lies. Not one of us has perfect doctrine. Ananias and his wife were under Israel's last days doctrine. The Dispensation of Grace had not yet begun. Israel doesn't get saved until they endure their 70th week till the end without taking the mark of the beast.
@bugsocsollie1694 The dispensation of grace hadn't yet begun? Please explain this, and give Scriptures to back the claim and explanation. To my understanding, every single saved person is saved by grace through faith. (Ephesians 2:8) Even Noah was given grace in Genesis. (Genesis 6:8).
What is the sin unto death?" Answer: First John 5:16 is one of the most difficult verses in the New Testament to interpret. “If anyone sees his brother commit a sin that does not lead to death, he should pray and God will give him life. I refer to those whose sin does not lead to death. There is a sin that leads to death. I am not saying that he should pray about that.” Of all the interpretations out there, none seem to answer all the questions concerning this verse. The best interpretation may be found by comparing this verse to what happened to Ananias and Sapphira in Acts 5:1-10 (see also 1 Corinthians 11:30). The “sin unto death” is willful, continuous, unrepentant sin. God has called His children to holiness (1 Peter 1:16), and God corrects them when they sin. We are not “punished” for our sin in the sense of losing salvation or being eternally separated from God, yet we are disciplined. “The Lord disciplines the one he loves, and he chastens everyone he accepts as his son” (Hebrews 12:6). First John 5:16 says there comes a point when God can no longer allow a believer to continue in unrepentant sin. When that point is reached, God may decide to take the life of the stubbornly sinful believer. The “death” is physical death. God at times purifies His church by removing those who deliberately disobey Him. The apostle John makes a distinction between the “sin that leads to death” and the “sin that does not lead to death.” Not all sin in the church is dealt with the same way because not all sin rises to the level of the “sin that leads to death.” In Acts 5:1-10 and 1 Corinthians 11:28-32, God dealt with intentional, calculated sin in the church by taking the physical life of the sinner. This is perhaps also what Paul meant by “the destruction of the flesh” in 1 Corinthians 5:5. John says that we should pray for Christians who are sinning, and that God will hear our prayers. However, there may come a time when God decides to cut short a believer’s life due to unrepentant sin. Prayers for such an unheeding person will not be effective. God is good and just, and He will eventually make us “a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless” (Ephesians 5:27). To further that end, God chastens His children. May the Lord preserve us from the hard-heartedness that would cause us to commit the “sin unto death.”
They knew the apostles and the power of God through the holy spirit. They were without excuse. They lied to the holy ghost which was present among the apostles. The holy spirit does not pardon transgressions. Both ended up dying afterwards for lying to the holy ghost.
@marktravis5162 how did Herod suffer the same fate? It wasn't said of Herod that he lied to the Holy Ghost. Annanias and Sapphira lied to God. Which means there was a relationship there.
Respectfully, your teaching that "Ananias and Sapphira was not saved " is not supported by Scripture. I am teachable though. I personally believe the main point of the text was to speak about the new believers added to the chuch. The first sin that the Holy Spirit exposes in the Church is the sin lying to The Holy Spirit for the sake of hypocrisy. Incidentally, this text is a good Scriptural proof of the full divinity and personality of the Holy Spirit. Acts 4:34 states " they were all filled with the Holy Spirit" Verse 3 of Acts 5 has Peter affirming the indwelling of the Holy Spirit in Ananias by addressing he lied to the Holy Spirit. Unbelievers are not capable of lieing to the Holy Spirit. Ananias and Sapphira were described in Scripture as believers. Their death was discipline, chastened by God himself. For the purpose of adding to the church by exposing sin through Peter's discernment then divine judgement...sounds harsh to some, but exposing the sin resulted in believers being added to the church as stated in Acts 5 :11-14. Judgment must begin at the house of God. Christians lie, redeemed people lie, saved people lie however you want to say it Christians sin after being saved-indwelled by the Holy Spirit. God diciplines his children, chastening can be a good sign of being a true believer too. Satan can influence believers, but never possess them. Peter was influenced heavily by Satan, in his opposition to Christ going to the cross, however it didn't mean that Peter wasn't saved.
@@cwilson0713 That's true, but I don't see how that answers my question? Sorry if I'm missing what you're saying. Another thing as well, is that according to Stephen, unbelievers (in this case the scribes) resisted the Holy Spirit: Acts 7:51 - "You stiff-necked and uncircumcised in heart and ears! You always resist the Holy Spirit; as your fathers did, so do you."
@eclipsesonic me personally I don't believe an unbeliever can blaspheme against the Holy Spirit, however I have seen some people say that unbelief is blasphemy against the Holy Spirit. It merits research.
Since you were the one who asked the question, I'll give a more detailed response Let's look at each pertinent verse. 4:32 And the congregation of those who believed were of one heart and soul; and not one of them claimed that anything belonging to him was his own, but all things were common property to them. 1. Who was of one heart and soul? The congregation of believers right? 2. Did ANY of the believers hold anything back? The text clearly says "not one of them" 3. When Luke says ALL things were common property did he include Ananias' property? 4:34. ........for all who were owners of land or houses would sell them and bring the proceeds of the sales 1. the verse says ALL THE OWNERS OF LAND, does that include Ananias 2. Did Ananias bring the proceeds of the sale to the Apostles feet? In v. 36 we see Barnabas who was a Levite, who under the Law wasn't required to give, but we are told that he does just what all the other believers did. 1. When Luke said ALL in verse 32, was Barnabas part of the ALL of the believers? Yes 2. Was Barnabas of one heart and soul with the other believers? Apparently so 5:1 But a man named Ananias, with his wife Sapphira, sold a piece of property 1. does "BUT" mean a contrast ? If it is not contrasting what the ALL did, then why use that word? 5:1-2. sold a piece of property, 2 and kept back some of the price for himself, with his wife’s full knowledge, and bringing a portion of it, 1. Did Ananias keep a portion of the proceeds? 2. Luke said ALL the believers withheld nothing back. Why did he say "not one of them" in v. 32? 3. in verse 34 ALL the owners of land brought their proceeds, Is Ananias included in the "ALL"? In verse 3. Peter said "why has Satan filled your heart" 1. Can a believer with a Holy Spirit regenerated and filled heart also be filled with Satan? NO - You mentioned that "Unbelievers are not capable of lying to the Holy Spirit." What text in the Bible teaches that? - What text teaches that only believers can lie to God? - You mentioned they were described as "believers". Where were they described as believers? - Since Luke said "ALL THE BELIEVERS" did something that Ananias did not do, how are they equated with the rest of the believers? Are there other professing Christians that we find that are not true believers in the NT that are severely punished for sin? Also, be careful about making the leap that Peter was influenced heavily by Satan. Jesus simply called him satan meaning adversary but he did not call him "The Adversary" or The Satan with the definite article as he is always called. I think if you answer these questions without inserting what the text does not say, it should be clear
I thank God my salvation is based completely on the person, work, and faithfulness of Christ alone. His death for the sins of the world according to the Word of God. His burial and resurrection on the third day according to the Word of God. God's amazing grace received by faith. Jesus said be perfect as your Father which is in heaven is perfect. If I look at myself based on God's standard I'm left hopeless. Because I sin everyday in thought, word, or deed. I fall infinitely short of God standard. When I simply trust the record God gave me of His Son. I know I'm saved because God who cannot lie gave me His word. Now I'm free impowered by His Holy Spirit to live this life for His glory out of love for Him because He chose to first love me.
WRONG! Ananias & Sapphire were believers. Error will always occur by "Cherry Picking" the texts & developing a teaching. "Cherry Picking" teaching can often times be used to manipulate the scriptures to support a FALSE DOCTRINE. Ananias & Sapphire were in fact believers & here is the proof: 1. Acts 4:31 declares "ALL" were filled with the Holy Ghost (including Ananias & Sapphire) 2. Acts 4:32 starts with "And" 3. The "But" (a conjunction word) in Acts 5:1 is now announcing Ananias & Sapphire but particularly focusing on the "Selling & Possessions" part not believing or salvation 4. Acts 5:1-2 illustrates that they did not tell anybody their scheme 5. Acts 5:3 is showing that the Holy Ghost revealed the truth to Peter about "Selling" not salvation (Peter did not ask Ananias but only asked Sapphire) 6. Acts 5:3 lying to men (the other believers who gave all) wasn't the biggest issue 7. Acts 5:3 the Holy Ghost they were lying to was the one everyone had (including them) 8. Acts 5:3 also shows that Ananias was aware of the concept of having the Holy Ghost because Peter didn't have to preach the gospel to them like he already did in Acts 2:38, Acts 4:8-12 9. Acts 5:11 clearly shows that this example was primarily for the Church (believers) who is mentioned first in the Acts 5:11 text. Also, the text in Acts 5:3 where it states "Satan filled thine heart"...heart in the greek is "kardia" which is denoting to the "Mind" not the "Spirit". 1 Corinthians 5:5 supports what Ananias & Sapphire experienced which ultimately makes Jesus the judge on if they went to heaven or not. Simply saying & teaching Ananias & Sapphire were not believers is an insertion & a false teaching. This is why it is VITAL for everyone to study & seek God for themselves & not solely accept teachings through the lens of others.
What passage states they were believers? What you call "cherry picking" is interesting since I'm only using the ONLY pertinent text about the story. Further, Aren't we told by Jesus about people who hear and receive the word with joy but are carried away, choked with the cares and desires and lusts of this world? (Luke 8). Ananias fits the definition of the person for whom the word fell on bad soil. So it is VITAL for people to study.
@@smartchristians I appreciate the reply. 1. The teaching didn't include Acts 4:31 which states "they were all filled with the Holy Ghost" (including Ananias & Sapphire)...There is no passage in the Bible that illustrates being able to be filled with the Holy Ghost without believing. 2. Yes, Jesus did speak the parable pre-crucifixion...still applies post-resurrection but it doesn't nullify that in Acts 4:31 "they were all filled with the Holy Ghost" including Ananias and Sapphire (believers). Thanks!
@@mkkjmmhz He so wants to hold on to they were not believers mantra because the things that he says can never happen to believers so inorder to do that he has to say Ananias and his wife were not believers.
We are not saved by works, we are saved by faith. For by the heart one believes unto salvation. If we walk in ungodliness we are struck dead by the Holy Spirit.
I don’t know about why a non-believer would give in that time, but I do know in today’s time they give due to the false teaching about giving being a spiritual law and God is bound by spiritual laws of giving and receiving. It doesn’t matter who’s giving. So, yeah, non-believers giving is definitely a thing.
They were absolutely believers who were given the ultimate discipline by God for not telling the truth. This was done to prevent this type of behavior from perpetuating through the New Church. The believers were afraid because of what happened. Why would the be fearful? Because they knew that the couple were believers and were also disciplined. Death of a believer is the ultimate discipline. Just because you are saved doesn’t mean God can’t be upset with you.
A lot of assumptions in your reasoning. But I'm grateful that this isn't an issue we should divide over. At least we'll know if they were saved or not if we meet them in eternity.
@@myredeemerlivesakatom2314 What you said goes against the text. The text clearly identified the believers as those who gave and didn't hold anything back. The "But" leading off chapter 5 is a contrast to who was identified in chapter 4 verses 32-37. We also know that they were not counted as believers because in chapter 5 they are referred to as "A man with his wife". They were never referred to as brother or sister. Fellow believers were referred to as brothers and sisters in Christ.
God seperates the wheat from the chaff. We have no concern over such things. Each person will say it is just when their fate is decided. So, don't worry yourself over those who have been dead for 2000 years. Is your neighbor saved?
“And the congregation of those who believed were of one heart and soul; and not one of them claimed that anything belonging to him was his own, but all things were common property to them.” Acts 4:32 NASB1995
Yes, because they knew that soon they would need to run to the wilderness taking nothing with them. That happens at the halfway point of Israel's 70th week. Israel's last days never came because they rejected their Messiah and Paul was called and given the Dispensation of Grace for the Gentiles instead. When this Dispensation is over, then God will go back to dealing with Israel according to their prophecy of their last days, their 70th week.
Yes. A and S were not those who believed, otherwise that would contradict the text. They were among them but they were not believers, otherwise they would not have tried to hold a part of the money back.
@VisForVindetta Yes, but Israel has another dominion added to it. The 10 virgins if found to be faithful (wise), they will be spared the 2nd half of Israel's 70th week (Great Tribulation). They are supposed to be going out into all the world preaching during the 1st half of that week and taken up to God for the 2nd half. But under that prophecy program, no one is saved until they endure till the end of the GT. the foolish virgins will not be taken up at the halfway point, but will face GT. The 144,000 will be the wise virgins of that parable. They will be found worthy to escape, but everyone else doesn't get their sins forgiven until Christ returns (Acts 3:19) and only if they endure. Make sense?
It's kinda silly to think 'unbelievers' would feel the need to give away any of their things let alone all of their stuff to believers for any reason. Therefore they were indeed believers that were caught.
Ananias and Saphera were not believers. They lied to God and they should’ve feared the Lord enough to do that. Second they saw all the people in the church giving getting praise. They wanted to praise the others were giving. Not because they wanted to share with believers.
I don't necessarily believe that but I have another question along those lines. John 12:42 "Nevertheless even among the rulers many believed in Him, but because of the Pharisees they did not confess Him lest they should be put out of the synagogue." Were they saved? Matthew 10:33. Jesus said "But everyone who disowns me before men I will disown them before my Father in heaven." By not acknowledging Jesus before the rulers were they actually denying Him as Lord? Even though they believed in Him. Maybe the answer is found in Paul's writing to the Corinthians. 1 Corinthians 3:11-15.
Corey….I love your site and your ministry brother, but I believe that Hebrews 6:4-6 goes against what you are saying. Can you elaborate…It reads as such. “For in the case of those once having been enlightened and having tasted of the heavenly gift and having become partakers of the Holy Spirit, and having tasted the good word of God and the powers of the age to come, and having fallen away, it is impossible to renew them again to repentance, since they again crucify to themselves the Son of God and put Him to open shame.”
Corey has made a video on this verse before. The verse is not that one who loses their way loses it forever, but that it is impossible to turn away, and if you did (which all have because you’re still a sinner after being saved) then you’re okay. The verse means if you could lose your salvation, you would have to crucify Christ all over again to get it back, which is not possible.
@@VisForVindetta i do not agree with that perspective bc the book of Hebrews is filled with warnings to CHRISTIANS about “falling away”…and there is nothing obscure or vague about “falling away”. The book of Peter is also crystal clear on what this means. Here is another verse in Hebrew’s that touches on this point. See to it brothers, that there not be in any one of you an evil, unbelieving heart that falls away from the living God. But encourage one another day after day, as long as it is still called “Today,” so that none of you will be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin. For we have become partakers of Christ, if we hold fast the beginning of our assurance firm until the end, - Hebrews 3:12-14 Corey’s position really doesn’t allow for these verses to be taken a face value bc you are even attempting to say a true believer can never fall away…..but that is not what thus scripture and a multitude of others declare.y
@@vpdiid191 there is not one example in the Bible of a Spirit filled believer ever losing the Holy Spirit. It is not possible. That doesn’t mean we should sin, but if one falls away, that’s not the same as someone who by mistake, gives into temptation and sins. Falling away would be someone who in the long run realizes or is caught as being an unbeliever the entire time, whether they knew it or not. Paul himself says to examine yourself and one another. Hebrews is saying exactly that
@ this is why it is very difficult to have this conversation with someone like you and Corey. Your arguments are subjective. Judas was one of the original 12 disciples and fell away….. does the Bible say he had the Holy Spirit….no….. does it say he didn’t have the Holy Spirit….no…. So who is right?? Also 1 Corinthians 12:3 says no one can say, “Jesus is Lord,” except by the Holy Spirit….. but in Matthew 7:21 Jesus himself says, “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven will enter…… so what you are inferring is directly contradicted.
For those of you that what to infer that Ananias and Saphira were believers, consider this text: 19 You believe that there is one God. You do well. Even the demons believe-and tremble! 20 But do you want to know, O foolish man, that faith without works is dead? James 2:19-20 NKJV They might have believed but it was just a superficial belief. A true believer has the works to backup his faith. Same goes with religion since it’s a demonized term. Yes there’s such a thing as superficial religion but True religion is this: James 1:1,26-27 NASB . [26] If anyone thinks himself to be religious, and yet does not bridle his tongue but deceives his own heart, this man's religion is worthless. [27] Pure and undefiled religion in the sight of our God and Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their distress, and to keep oneself unstained by the world. They were not believers. They didn’t have the Holy Spirit. They lied to God.
You are wrong here Mr. Corey. The fact that the reading starts with the statement "all of the believers" automatically includes the two that didn't share all of their worldly goods. If the passage were meant to state that they were not believers because of this, it would say just that. You are indeed misunderstanding the text. Step away from it and ask the Holy Spirit and your pastor. I think you make the text more complicated than it needs to be and you approach simple sentence ideas like English is a second language to you. Not every verse needs a microscope of investigation. Sometimes it says exactly what it says and that's all.
You know who else woulda been considered a believer, Judas Iscariot but obviously he wasn’t saved, the word teaches us that just because somebody is in the group doesn’t mean they are truly a part of it, just as you have many who claim Christ and call themselves Christians who are not saved
@@marktravis5162great comparison. This is a difficult passage and a difficult conclusion 😢. Im at a loss. God knows the heart. It makes me look to me😮😮
You're wrong. Both Ananias and Sapphira were liars. Their actions revealed their heart. Nether one of them, like Judas Iscariot, had faith in Christ. They are a perfect example of religious church attendees who appear transformed but inwardly are ravenous wolves. God struck them dead because they lied to the Holy Spirit. Look closely into the purpose of this passage. What was more valuable to them? Their eternal security in Christ or their financial security? It's obvious who they chose to serve. The wheat and the tares look the same. Corey is correct in this interpretation. Just because you don't believe it doesn't mean he is wrong. Pray and ask the Holy Spirit for revelation. Then you'll finally be able to understand the point of this passage being written.
What people dont understand is that YOU CANNOT MOCK THE LORD GOD. You can lie and hide in darkness all you want, you can steal and live a life of selfishness and pride and greed. You can enjoy lust and idolatry and as well adultery but in the end if you DO NOT CHANGE THEN YOU WULL NOT INHERIT THE KINGDOM OF GOD. The Holy Spirit will LITERALLY LEAD YOU AWAY FROM THESE DESIRES OF THE DEVIL but WE must LISTEN AND OBEY. Its very SIMPLE.
Acts was written after Ananias and Sappira died. They were already found wanting. You using the text this way does not show that they were not at one-time Christians.
Ananias and his wife were part of Israel before the Dispensation of Grace began with Paul. They sold everything and gave to the community knowing that they would soon and suddenly need to get out of town taking nothing with them. Except Israel's 70th week never came because Israel rejected their Messiah. So, Paul was called and given the Dispensation of Grace for the Gentiles. When this Dispensation is over, God will go back to dealing with Israel according to their prophecy of their 70th week.
@@Chrystal-nt2wc What do you mean "it wasn't what they were supposed to do at the time"? Jesus told them to sell all they have, give to the poor, and follow Him.
@bugsocsollie1694 I understand that part. My question was regarding the dispensation aspect of it, because I don't know anything about it. I was asking could they not believe (even if they wanted to) because it was not God's plan for them at that time?
@Chrystal-nt2wc could they not believe WHAT exactly? They already believed the Gospel of Christ. After Paul explained his Gospel to Peter James and John (Gal 2:2) which was 17 years after Paul was saved, Peter stood up and said that they (Israel) must be saved the same way we are saved (Acts 15:11), by Grace through faith. But once God goes back to dealing with Israel according to their prophecy of their 70th week, no one will be saved BY Grace THROUGH faith.
EXACTLY!!!! I had this same conversation not long ago!!! AMEN! They were not believers.
Matthew 16:21-23 [21] From that time Jesus began to show His disciples that He must go to Jerusalem, and suffer many things from the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised up on the third day. [22] Peter took Him aside and began to rebuke Him, saying, “God forbid it, Lord! This shall never happen to You.” [23] But He turned and said to Peter, “Get behind Me, Satan! You are a stumbling block to Me; for you are not setting your mind on God’s interests, but man’s.” Be well and be at peace.
Immorality in the Corinthian Church as Paul states...not even seen amongst the Gentiles (non-believers): 1 Corinthians 5:1-5 [1] It is actually reported that there is immorality among you, and immorality of such a kind as does not exist even among the Gentiles, that someone has his father’s wife. [2] You have become arrogant and have not mourned instead, so that the one who had done this deed would be removed from your midst. [3] For I, on my part, though absent in body but present in spirit, have already judged him who has so committed this, as though I were present. [4] In the name of our Lord Jesus, when you are assembled, and I with you in spirit, with the power of our Lord Jesus, *[5] I have decided to deliver such a one to Satan for the destruction of his flesh, so that his spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus.* Be well and be at peace.
If we didn’t have Jesus say the thief would be in heaven Christians would put the thief in hell because of his life he lived. Luke 23:40-43 But the other rebuked him, saying, “Do you not fear God, since you are under the same sentence of condemnation? And we indeed justly, for we are receiving the due reward of our deeds; but this man has done nothing wrong.” And he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.” And he said to him, “Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in paradise.” If the Word of God doesn’t say it, we shouldn’t say it.
Is it not written to let the wheat and the weeds grow together until the harvest where they will be separated? Not everyone who says they're a believer in Christ Jesus are truly believers. Why do Christians act like every one in the congregation is saved? If that be the case why does Jesus tell many to depart because he never knew those worker's of iniquity?
Ananias and his wife were part of Israel and under Israel's last days doctrine. Israel doesnt get saved until Christ returns for them. Acts 3:19. Thats when they get their sins forgiven and when they get their new covenant. The Dispensation of Grace had not started yet, not until Paul was called.
It doesn't matter whether they intellectually believed or not. The parable of the 4 soils make it clear that there are people who believe but they fall away sooner or later. Either that or they show it in their hypocrisy. The issue is whether they were regenerated and indwelled by the Holy Spirit. The bible is clear that those who are born of God overcome the world. Since they didn't overcome the world they were not regenerated.
Cory, I believe they were believer. However, they were judged by God as an example. This was the beginning of establishing the church. The Holy Spirit was being emphasized to the body of Christ of knowing all that we do and think. For God knows all, and He searches the heart and magnifies the motive of the heart. For example, Cory, you are a believer, and I truly believe you are. Yet, you are still capable of failing God or sinning against a Holy God. And we both know this can be done even in thought. What does God expect from an unbeliever, nothing. God expects them to live in their sin unless He cause them to repent by His Spirit. I believe they were saved and were judged by God as an example, like the word said of it being a warning to the Church, and fear came upon the Church. Acts 5: 11. To conclude, this points toward a believer can be led to do flagrant sins. We have believers today who are committing acts worse than lying about their giving in tithing. They were believer's, however, they were used as an example unto the Church. We serve a Holy God, Who don't accept nothing less than us giving Him our best.
@@smartchristians WHERE DOES IT SAY THAT THEY WERE NOT BELIEVERS OR ARE YOU SAYING THAT BECAUSE OF WHAT THEY DID. IF YOU LOOK AT THE CHURCH TODAY, THE SAME THING IS GOING ON.
@@dexterdenise Exactly and this is why Jesus says that they came out from us but was not from us. Problem is people don’t know how to read scriptures in its interpretation and it’s not hard.
I think that they were believers, however, Satan caused them to become jealous and wanted the same recognition as everybody else had . If they were not unbelievers, God would not have killed them because it would not have been such a bad thing. But because they were believers, and tried to mock God, they committed the sin unto death discussed in First John . The Bible nowhere says that they were not believers either. So Corey l have to disagree with you on this one and just because you can break down Greek and Hebrew does not mean that you are always right because I have heard other pastors with Ph.D's in Theology state that they both were believers. So, who is right? Only the Lord God Almighty knows. Nevertheless, l think they both were believers and faced the immediate judgment of God. Take care my brother. The Bowtie Professor!
Yes 1 Corinthians 11: 28 Everyone ought to examine themselves before they eat of the bread and drink from the cup. 29 For those who eat and drink without discerning the body of Christ eat and drink judgment on themselves. 30 That is why many among you are weak and sick, and a number of you have fallen asleep. 31 But if we were more discerning with regard to ourselves, we would not come under such judgment. 32 Nevertheless, when we are judged in this way by the Lord, we are being disciplined so that we will not be finally condemned with the world.
They were saved but severely chastised by God. Their earthly lives were cut short but they are in heaven. Worst of all, they lied to the Holy Spirit when questioned, so it was time to go home. If they had’ve confessed, then i’m sure their earthly lives would have been spared but only God knows. Hebrews 12:8 But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons. KJV Belief in Jesus without works is what get you into heaven and anytime you see “believers” or “brethren” being addressed in the Bible, then that means that they are saved. The man who slept with his father’s wife in 1 Corinthians was saved too but severely chastised for his serious sin. These are what you call carnal Christians. This is also one of the reasons why we as believers should do good works because it can help us avoid God’s chastisement.

Amen! Especially to the the part about God not expecting unbelievers to Holy living. We are all dead already in our sins without the Holy Spirit.

They were among the believers, but according to the text, their action indicates that they did not believe ..

Were Ananias and Sapphira saved?
So, when Luke said "ALL" and "Not one of them" he forgot to mention Ananias?

The particle δε (de) indicates a mild objection or simple transition and can sometimes be translated with "but" or "indeed, but" or "also". More often, however, it carries the mere force of a sentence's natural progression and as a result leaves little to be translated in English. Hebrew has a silent particle like that as well, albeit of slightly different function and origin: את ('et).

No ,the devil could not enter their hearts if they were believers, anyone could give just like now days@pierresambukamukendi8354
The HS would have convicted them instead of a man confronting them
Wasn't Judas part of the disciples? His heart was not with Jesus same as those two
The text can also be interpreted as A and S being the exceptions to the rule that none of the believers (in general) considered their belongings to be their own.
The idea of putting the Lord of the test is confirmed with what Paul warns the church of Corinth not to do in 1 Corin 10:9 which reads, “ Nor let us try the Lord as some of them did, and were destroyed by serpents.”
God is Holy and judgement starts in the house. 1 Corin 10 (written to believers) reminds us to not follow the same cravings as Israel did for a reason. Shalom and God bless.
Amen! 💯
You seem to imply all that talk the talk walk the walk. Are there not frauds in the church today or even wolves leading them?
Also, pointing out that God disciplines his children, does not negate that He also punishes unbelievers as well.(Judas was chosen because he was wicked, though he was a disciple God still punished him. or even Herod) Even if a person is in the position of a priest does not mean he is a true follower (See Hophni and Phineas)
There simply is no way to get past a believer with the Holy Spirit also having his heart filled with Satan. There is no way to get around the description of ALL THE BELIEVERS.

Matthew Henry's Concise Commentary
5:1-11 The sin of Ananias and Sapphira was, that they were ambitious of being thought eminent disciples, when they were not true disciples.
I love this channel I learned so much of the Bible thank you so much
Great video! Another good person in Acts to analyze is Simon the sorcerer. Some would say he was saved. After all, he was baptized(which is a good reason to analyze him and Peter's rebuke of him for those who think baptism is salvation).
Thank you for sharing your perspective. I’ve never considered this before.
Their actions proved they were not believers.
So, are we saying that believers doesn't lie? Because all they did was lied
Thank you for clarifying this.💜
There's 3 examples of the giving in chapter 4 & 5.
So when Luke said ALL of the believers gave and didn’t hold anything back, he was wrong about Ananias and his wife? Just let the text say what it says
Paul himself in front of everyone exposed his sin of hypocrisy:
Galations 2: 11 But when Peter came to Antioch, I had to oppose him to his face, for what he did was very wrong.

We are saved by faith alone not works.
I’ll let God decide who believes and who doesn’t.
Pastor Tim Conway puts it like this, "You see, to believe a lie is to be an unbeliever."
@Hakeem597 with your current logic explain Matthew 4:10....Peter was heavily influenced by satan...was he not a believer?
So everybody who gives to the church today is a true believer?
Not so
What is the sin unto death?"
Answer: First John 5:16 is one of the most difficult verses in the New Testament to interpret.
The apostle John makes a distinction between the “sin that leads to death” and the “sin that does not lead to death.” Not all sin in the church is dealt with the same way because not all sin rises to the level of the “sin that leads to death.”
In Acts 5:1-10 and 1 Corinthians 11:28-32, God dealt with intentional, calculated sin in the church by taking the physical life of the sinner.
If they weren't believers why would they be punished?
Explain Herod who suffered the same fate
@marktravis5162 how did Herod suffer the same fate? It wasn't said of Herod that he lied to the Holy Ghost.
Annanias and Sapphira lied to God. Which means there was a relationship there.
@@thatnicekid04 exactly...dicipline/divine judgement.
@ He suffered the same fate as in he died, and what relationship are you talking about?
@@marktravis5162 in order to lie to God, Ananias and Sapphira had to have a connection with God.
Atheist can't lie to God. Only believers can.
Acts 4:34 states " they were all filled with the Holy Spirit"
Verse 3 of Acts 5 has Peter affirming the indwelling of the Holy Spirit in Ananias by addressing he lied to the Holy Spirit.
Unbelievers can blaspheme the Holy Spirit, so surely an unbeliever is capable of lying to the Holy Spirit also?
@eclipsesonic one is dead in their sin without the Holy Spirit.
@@cwilson0713 That's true, but I don't see how that answers my question? Sorry if I'm missing what you're saying. Another thing as well, is that according to Stephen, unbelievers (in this case the scribes) resisted the Holy Spirit:
Acts 7:51 - "You stiff-necked and uncircumcised in heart and ears! You always resist the Holy Spirit; as your fathers did, so do you."
@eclipsesonic me personally I don't believe an unbeliever can blaspheme against the Holy Spirit, however I have seen some people say that unbelief is blasphemy against the Holy Spirit. It merits research.
Since you were the one who asked the question, I'll give a more detailed response
Let's look at each pertinent verse.
4:32 And the congregation of those who believed were of one heart and soul; and not one of them claimed that anything belonging to him was his own, but all things were common property to them.
1. Who was of one heart and soul? The congregation of believers right?
2. Did ANY of the believers hold anything back? The text clearly says "not one of them"
3. When Luke says ALL things were common property did he include Ananias' property?
4:34. ........for all who were owners of land or houses would sell them and bring the proceeds of the sales
1. the verse says ALL THE OWNERS OF LAND, does that include Ananias
Yes
2. Was Barnabas of one heart and soul with the other believers? Apparently so
5:1 But a man named Ananias, with his wife Sapphira, sold a piece of property
1. does "BUT" mean a contrast ? If it is not contrasting what the ALL did, then why use that word?
5:1-2. sold a piece of property, 2 and kept back some of the price for himself, with his wife’s full knowledge, and bringing a portion of it,
1. Did Ananias keep a portion of the proceeds?
2. Luke said ALL the believers withheld nothing back. Why did he say "not one of them" in v. 32?
3. in verse 34 ALL the owners of land brought their proceeds, Is Ananias included in the "ALL"?
In verse 3. Peter said "why has Satan filled your heart"
1. Can a believer with a Holy Spirit regenerated and filled heart also be filled with Satan? NO
- You mentioned that "Unbelievers are not capable of lying to the Holy Spirit." What text in the Bible teaches that?
Ananias & Sapphire were in fact believers & here is the proof:
1. Acts 4:31 declares "ALL" were filled with the Holy Ghost (including Ananias & Sapphire)
2. Acts 4:32 starts with "And"
3. The "But" (a conjunction word) in Acts 5:1 is now announcing Ananias & Sapphire but particularly focusing on the "Selling & Possessions" part not believing or salvation
4. Acts 5:1-2 illustrates that they did not tell anybody their scheme
5. Acts 5:3 is showing that the Holy Ghost revealed the truth to Peter about "Selling" not salvation (Peter did not ask Ananias but only asked Sapphire)
6. Acts 5:3 lying to men (the other believers who gave all) wasn't the biggest issue
7. Acts 5:3 the Holy Ghost they were lying to was the one everyone had (including them)
8. Acts 5:3 also shows that Ananias was aware of the concept of having the Holy Ghost because Peter didn't have to preach the gospel to them like he already did in Acts 2:38, Acts 4:8-12
Couldn't have said it better myself
@@smartchristians I appreciate the reply. 1. The teaching didn't include Acts 4:31 which states "they were all filled with the Holy Ghost" (including Ananias & Sapphire)...There is no passage in the Bible that illustrates being able to be filled with the Holy Ghost without believing. 2.
Question, can an “unbeliever” lie to the Holy Ghost?
They were absolutely believers who were given the ultimate discipline by God for not telling the truth. This was done to prevent this type of behavior from perpetuating through the New Church. The believers were afraid because of what happened. Why would the be fearful? Because they knew that the couple were believers and were also disciplined. Death of a believer is the ultimate discipline. Just because you are saved doesn’t mean God can’t be upset with you.
Yes
A lot of assumptions in your reasoning. But I'm grateful that this isn't an issue we should divide over. At least we'll know if they were saved or not if we meet them in eternity.
No assumptions here. Historical facts.

“And the congregation of those who believed were of one heart and soul; and not one of them claimed that anything belonging to him was his own, but all things were common property to them.”
Acts 4:32 NASB1995
There are people in here that believes that God won't punish the unsave. Really?
For we have become partakers of Christ, if we hold fast the beginning of our assurance firm until the end,
- Hebrews 3:12-14
Corey’s position really doesn’t allow for these verses to be taken a face value bc you are even attempting to say a true believer can never fall away…..but that is not what thus scripture and a multitude of others declare.y
@@VisForVindetta also I think it is blasphemous to say if you as a Christian fall away…..”you are ok”. Didn’t Christ himself speak against this?
For those of you that what to infer that Ananias and Saphira were believers, consider this text:
19 You believe that there is one God. You do well. Even the demons believe-and tremble!
20 But do you want to know, O foolish man, that faith without works is dead?
James 2:19-20 NKJV
They might have believed but it was just a superficial belief. A true believer has the works to backup his faith. Same goes with religion since it’s a demonized term. Yes there’s such a thing as superficial religion but True religion is this:
James 1:1,26-27 NASB
Well said.
Question @ KTS-Finesse what did Luke say "all of the believers" did. What did Luke say about all of the land owners?
Does that mean they couldn't have been believers because that's not what their people were meant to do at that time?
Matthew 16:21-23
[21] From that time Jesus began to show His disciples that He must go to Jerusalem, and suffer many things from the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised up on the third day. [22] Peter took Him aside and began to rebuke Him, saying, “God forbid it, Lord! This shall never happen to You.”
[23] But He turned and said to Peter, “Get behind Me, Satan! You are a stumbling block to Me; for you are not setting your mind on God’s interests, but man’s.”
Be well and be at peace.
Immorality in the Corinthian Church as Paul states...not even seen amongst the Gentiles (non-believers):
1 Corinthians 5:1-5
[1] It is actually reported that there is immorality among you, and immorality of such a kind as does not exist even among the Gentiles, that someone has his father’s wife. [2] You have become arrogant and have not mourned instead, so that the one who had done this deed would be removed from your midst.
[3] For I, on my part, though absent in body but present in spirit, have already judged him who has so committed this, as though I were present. [4] In the name of our Lord Jesus, when you are assembled, and I with you in spirit, with the power of our Lord Jesus,
*[5] I have decided to deliver such a one to Satan for the destruction of his flesh, so that his spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus.*
Be well and be at peace.
@@dz7a756 did Satan enter Peter?
@@dz7a756 not sure why you posted this. Please provide the context.
If we didn’t have Jesus say the thief would be in heaven Christians would put the thief in hell because of his life he lived. Luke 23:40-43
But the other rebuked him, saying, “Do you not fear God, since you are under the same sentence of condemnation?
You make the same point that I make. Amen
I DON T AGREE WITH THAT COREY
You don’t have a scripture to disagree
@@smartchristians WHERE DOES IT SAY THAT THEY WERE NOT BELIEVERS OR ARE YOU SAYING THAT BECAUSE OF WHAT THEY DID. IF YOU LOOK AT THE CHURCH TODAY, THE SAME THING IS GOING ON.
@@dexterdenise Exactly and this is why Jesus says that they came out from us but was not from us. Problem is people don’t know how to read scriptures in its interpretation and it’s not hard.
False belief? Just like the Joel Osteen and Oprah wimpy and Kenneth Copeland and the rest of false believers?
..... I side with Corey....

Yes
1 Corinthians 11:
28 Everyone ought to examine themselves before they eat of the bread and drink from the cup.
KJV
Belief in Jesus without works is what get you into heaven and anytime you see “believers” or “brethren” being addressed in the Bible, then that means that they are saved. The man who slept with his father’s wife in 1 Corinthians was saved too but severely chastised for his serious sin. These are what you call carnal Christians. This is also one of the reasons why we as believers should do good works because it can help us avoid God’s chastisement.
Yes they were not believers it's common sense and the multitude of them that believe were a one heart and of one soul different group
