Guardians of the Outback: Marsupials, Foxes, and Poison Plants

A detective story which traces the remarkable alliance between South Australia‚ poisonous plants and its native marsupials. The film reveals how this delicate relationship, which has evolved over millions of years, has been threatened by the introduction of European mammals, like the fox and rabbit. We discover how, in turn, these poisonous plants have ensured the survival of a host of strange marsupials - woylies, burrowing bettongs, bandicoots and quokkas - which would otherwise have become extinct.

Fascinating documentary about how three species of poisonous plants may well have saved Australia's wonderful marsupials and birds. Tony Bomford filmed and produced epic films for survival in the 80s and 90s. He was as cunning as the fox in this program, at getting fantastic wildlife footage.

Liz P they are supposed to live in the australian climate so putting them in different countrys would probably not be good and our kangaroo population is 3x bigger than the human population here and our koalas wouldnt survive because they need eucalyptus trees and the trees produce a flammable oil and will creat wildfires

The wildlife in Australia is fucken amazing . unfortunately preservation did come late for many species . donating a few bucks here and there to conservation groups does help x

I love Australia we emigrated over to Melbourne in the 70's I was only 10 yrs old loved it there, but we only stayed for 4 yrs then came back to England .
