A baby bottomed nib can be common on many Montblancs. Trying to increase the flow by widening the tine gap temporarily masks the problem, but it is not a fix for it. On one of my Montblancs, I had a fine nib, and close to the end of the ink running out, it would skip really terribly until I sent it out and got the baby bottom taken care of. It was so bad that when The pen was a third full, it wouldn't write reliably. It wasn't the first or the last of the Montblancs I've had this problem on. The Lamy sweet spot problem is quite different when you look at the nib under a loupe

At that price it should work out of the box! I got a scratchy Starwalker, and I was not a happy camper.

Living up to the temperamental nature of the namesake.

It’s a nicely designed pen, but I agree that the over-polished nib should never have left the factory. I have a few Montblanc FPs. Fortunately, I’ve been lucky with their nibs.
I’m sorry about your injury! It’s amazing how hurting a finger (I’ve done it myself) can be so darn painful, and throbbing pains can be maddening. If you are still in Canada, maybe 222s or Mersyndols could help more than plain over the counter pain meds. Of course, I haven’t been to Canada for several years, so I’m not sure if such meds are still available at drug stores. Feel better soon!

The certificate is probably to make the customer think he’s using the pen wrong and it’s his fault the pen doesn’t write.

Sorry to hear about the nib, but it seems to be pretty common with Montblanc pens. At $1,000 that's completely unacceptable. The flow looks to be really good. and it's a cool pen overall. Can a nibmeister fix an over-polished nib, I believe also known as 'baby's bottom?' I assume they can, but I wouldn't have a clue as to where to start myself with something like that.
I've heard about Anabelle, but I don't know how good she is. I assume pretty good or Joost wouldn't have her at his store.
I ask because I have a Momento Zero Grande Pura on backorder at Appelboom and I wonder if I should just have her tune it before shipping it clear across the Atlantic, just to be on the safe side. Cheers.

I have the same problem with my Montblanc Walt Disney Special Edition pen and with my 146, both Medium nibs.
I don't have it with my Fine nib Egyptomania and 145. They write great.
They are so expensive, it's unacceptable at that price.

Your friend will be bowing to your feet after receiving it. It is a beautiful pen. However I think Sheaffer did a better product with their versions of their Ferrari pens. Also the price point was drastically less than this pen. I am shocked that the nib is not working well. That is certainly a drawback.
That Enzo used purple ink is a factI had not been widely known. The ink is a nice companion.
    Very good review.

Not YOUR fault! There is less than no excuse for any pen, let alone a Montblanc, let alone a Montblanc with a nib certificate 😬

Wow. I've bought $5 Jinhao pens that write nicer than this. This would be so disappointing if I spent this sort of money on a pen to write with and it came this skippy out of the box. Otherwise; nice pen. A bit too ornate for my liking.
