    that should be an Olympic skating category

  • @secession77
    @secession77 2 роки тому +60

    Learning those tricks is pretty easy. The only thing you should take care of is:
    - to find the ice rink that is open to the public and not crowded
    - to find other great skaters and improve skills within a small group

      What about sharpening skates? I heard that it should be flat with only sharp outside and inside.

      @propinki there is like an upside down u on the blades and you can get a deep upside down u or a shallow one. Depending on what you want to do each one has its purpose

      Thats what limits me most in ice scating, everything i know i learned myself, copying others ive seen on rink, but what i need is most is more experienced scater to teach me stuff i dont know, which i can follow on rink to do swift turns. I mean, i can do swift turns fast, but its different when you follow someone and you need to adapt to other persons decisions, because other person is more mentally prepared to do sudden swift or left turn. Yes ive seen people do it succesfully at bigger speeds than i can do but they are mostly same people who do it together, that means they adapted only to that other person from so many sessions that they already know what other person will do in certain situation and they are prepared.

    When you see what this young guys can do, you will judge other people different in ice rink. There is 1 guy at ice rink, about 24y old, and he always brags infront others how he can go low on "Gibon" (eagle in this video) style while going to the right. Or he is doing swift fast turns at edge of ice rink near walk and others try to follow him, almost every time. Or he goes around people with swift turns around rink while others follow him (applyes similar things from last one, swift turns in moderate speed). He was hockey player so that means he had professional help with ice scating.
    After all this years, i noticed that he always does same things, he doesnt try to learn something new, he doesnt do jump stuff, and he very rarely ice scates backwards, an 95% of what he does he does it in counter clockwise direction- he didnt try to learn to be able to do same things in different direction, other than swift turns; but Gibon style he only knows 1 position where right leg is upfront.
    After thinking, i noticed how he is actually limited, he may be very good at swift turns at moderate speed (because its 90% what he does, and he often has others to practise + hockey advantage) but lets say someone who trains backwards scating lot would outclass him in that type of scating.
    In other words, never compare yourself to others in ice scating but yourself, improve where you are weak and learn new stuff dont be limited. People may be blind when they see that that 24y guy does those turns really fast and he is good at ice scating in general, but thats about 50% he does on ice, if you ask him to do something outstanding backwards he would only show he knows basics. And if he saw guy doing tricks like on this video he would scratch his head and think how its possible.

    Could someone help lead me in the right direction to start this? I’m ready to buy my first set of skates cus i’m tired of rentals, and i like spinning, doing 360s etc. i do lots of flips and stuff on regular ground.
    So j was about to buy figure skates. But it looks like all these freestylers use hockey skates. Is there a reason? And could anyone recommend a decent set for less than $200?

      It’s more about bending and finding your angle, press your skates against the barrierAnd lay them against it so you go into an eagle position then squat down and spread your legs and find the most optimal/comfortable position for you it is still good to stretch before you attempt it but finding your angle will help a lot, I hope this helps with your freestyle journey :-)
