Hey Friend(s), you have mentioned to use right leg, inside edge on Hawk in other videos so you're correct. "Hardest Backward Stop", looks like a basic one foot outside edge hockey stop... plus the stick is a balancing tool. Freestyle is "hands-free", wicked harder... Freestylers rock, I love these videos !!
Did notice that too but we definetely don't need such skating skills during a game😂 Could look a bit funny when someone decides to pull off some of these moves in game😅
@@viljamivatanen332 oh it would be hilarious! Now I wanna see it happen 🤣! But you are right, we won't need to do this in a game, however it's still fun to try and doing it only improves skating!
@@hockeytendy3288 mostly I could see it being a celebration after a goal, only ones affective during a game would be a heel stop trying to slow your own momentum down before getting checked. But 9/10 I just take the hit get up and do it again.
Being hit by a dude in some of these position would ruin your hanckles in my opinion. Playing hockey is about being efficient at skating more than fancy doing tricks. But, experiencing these tricks on your own as a practice, I'm sure, improve your balance and skills overall.
@@danygilbert6733 agreed, they are perfect for improving your overall balance and skill outside of game scenarios as you said. But hey I'm a goalie, I just need to stick myself in front of the flying rubber thing 😂
As a hockey player, number 10 is actually quite useful for changing from backward to forward quickly in games. We normally do crossovers right after the move to gain speed quicky. These moves connect very well as you can even start the crossover motion before you come to a full stop
Fantastic video - and also very humbling! haha.. I thought I was pretty proficient until I saw this. Long way to go still :) 40 this year so not much time! Thanks again for the quality video - great production and extremely insightful as always.
So awesome Nandi, now more stops to practice. feel super happy my signature stop made it #1 but unfortunately I couldn't do a nice one for you in Debrecen, lol. Challenge accepted for the 360 toe stop.
It is insane! I have already started to learn it some time ago, but it is very tricky. My Problem is, that I often just slide and don't brake , I hope I am able to perform it correctly soon
A standard trick with figure skates is to lean down, grab your toes, and then use your hands to pull your toes up. When you lift you will put all your weight on the heel point of your figure blade. Those will dig into the ice and stop you.
Great to see these all in one video. Thank you for posting! Can you make a video on how to connect moves? I am still working on foot work and I get stuck in between transitions. Does using cones help with this? I have not seen a video on how to use cones to help with footwork.. tried and I get tripped up. 👀👂
WOW! My favourite stop is 1st. Thank you! I have a variation to it, doing it by two legs not simultanious but one after another. If you interested i can upload a quick example
I was not expecting number 1 as the hardest but I suppose what some people find difficult some people find easier for me it would be the cantilever stop
I'm slowly progressing to more and more shallower radius as time passes. Here is a comparison of deep and shallow radii ua-cam.com/video/aHhFr8QnHb8/v-deo.html

As someone with figure skates (and spikes on the ends) the final stop is the easiest for me ;) The rest though...man some of those are close to defying physics. Some good ones to practice/attempt!
Skye is legendary here in Hawaii for ice skating. Visitors who see him skate for the first time constantly want to go up and talk to him. Although I would not consider him the 'best' because there are so many talented skaters from Hawaii, he is the most dynamic and quick. As an example, Skye cannot do double heel stops very well or jump, don't know why, its his weakness. The unique thing about Skye is how he constantly evolves his skating abilities. Most skaters develop a few good moves or a style that they can do very well, this why you see video after video they sort of look the same after a while. I'm not knocking this because my skating mentor Mark Nylander had the same bag of tricks which he always drew upon and he did them very well. However for Skye, you cant lock him down to any particular style of skating, because its all instinctive for him. Alternatively, this also makes him the worst kind of teacher. I'll always ask him, "how did you do that", he just shrug and say, "its just turning." So if you think you might learn something from him it can be frustrating. Again with Skyes instinctive style, this means he's not locked down to any particular set of moves. After filming him for 13 years or so he does not use the same movements or techniques he may have used a few years ago. These days he's into a lot of rotation, another couple years from now who knows. He's just enjoying himself. As an aside, he dislikes social media so if you want to communicate with him you have to do it in person. 😉
I've never heard a name for it or seen a tutorial about it, but it's basically a variation of a hockey stop where you do extra movement with your feet as shown in the clip. The guy in the clip is doing it on the nose of his skate, but from my experience it's the same if you use the whole blade
This may have already been mentioned, but just a small, friendly correction. It seems you did #10 differently from the demo you played of the hockey player. In the example, the hockey player is stopping on the outside edge of his skate. When you demonstrate it you’ve done it on the inside edge. Still, awesome video as usual bro. I absolutely love your channel. It’s one of my top five favorite skate channels on UA-cam! 🤗
try pulling that single heel stop when hockey players are wandering into the rink for the following hour. if anyone sees you, they'll be waiting for you in the parking lot.

Try a single foot heel stop? Or even a spread eagle stop?
