I feel like Joni wrote and sang this from the sky , landing on the river from high above to skate on. I feel like Martin is singing it from under water trying to make it to the surface of the ice so he can skate away. Much love for both versions.
I have never seen this until now. OMG. I was fortunate enough to have jammed with Martin several times in 1992 when I was part of another band, as he lived in the house with my bandmates. He would come downstairs and play guitar with US! And show up to our gigs and sit in! What a sweet guy and truly an incredible musician. Love Martin Tielli.
I saw this so many years ago and remember it is one of the most awe inspiring moments of television. Thanks for posting it so that I can relive a beauteous time and share it with others.
@qualityshows Thank you for broadcasting this Joe! I'm sure you know the significance of this beyond how beautiful this song is. This is actually the impetus for the band Nick Buzz. We see here a completely unique and untterly awe inspiring band putting on their first performance. Amazing. Thank you for posting this, always wanted to see this footage!
Sorry to be a bringdown, but despite the excellent musicianship, something in the innocence of the melody has been lost. Granted, the intense, fragile yearning of the original which is quintessential Joni is impossible to match, otherwise she wouldn't be Joni, would she? So well done (I suppose).

Martin Tielli is so spectacularly talented. Truly one of a kind.
A Canadian treasure, unfortunately most of the country is oblivious to his talents.

Hung out with him once at the Cellar Pub at UNB in Fredericton.
I met him before a performance in London. I told him he was awesome. He said thanks and signed my Whale Music cd.

@Discordiaist Love that CD. Just because I'm Nick the Buzz.
Please teach your feet to play guitar, and sing like the angel you can be, Mr.Martin
I love Martin, but Paul McLeod's version was truly something to behold.
