My sister went up to Mary Margaret at a restaurant and told her she does imitations of her at clubs and so the person MMO was with asked for a demonstration. My sister proceeded to sing like MMO and MMO replied "I don't deserve to be me, you deserve to be me." Her friend then asked my sister to sing something in her own voice which she proceeded to do. Mary Margaret exclaimed "Can I write for you ?" They became friends and she has performed at some of my sister's charity concerts and they sang together on st. Patrick's Day
@@frankpeter6851 You may get a chance in Toronto if the 'Martian Appreciation Ball' happens after covid restrictions are over. I believe it takes place on or around St Patrick's Day
I was fortunate to be interning on "Night Music" when Mary Margaret O'Hara did the above wonderful performance! :) The world is a better place for the presence of MMO and "Miss America" and a lesser place for MMO leaving the public eye so quickly.

You LUCKY dawg! This performance just SLAYED me and all my musician buddies the night it aired!!!!
I 've been in love with her, when I met her as 21 year old working in a college street bar!, and every other place I've ever seen her!! And still!!! Charlie porkchop!! Hope to see her soon and continue the beaurifulness!!! Huge Love!!!
I believe that this might have been the performance that I happened upon while flipping channels in a college dorm room in 1990 or so. I ran down to the local record store and found Miss American on cd. While my college friends were listening to 2 Live Crew and Steve Millers greatest hits, I was listening to MMO. I probably came closer to wearing that disc out over a ten year period than any other. Many powerful memories associated with her music.
The greatest artist that almost no-one has ever heard of. Otherwordly, in the best way... how about that little stutter around 2'46" - or is that just on the track... ?
Wow. I saw an MMO video back in the day and bought the LP/CD (I can't remember which). Never saw this live vid before. She's got a curiously soaring whisper that makes some think two words: Orbison impressionism. I just hope that she's got 100 songs on tape in a vault somewhere that we'll get to hear someday.
If someone has a video of Mary Margaret doing Dark Dear Heart live (on Night Music Show I think) then could you please post it as it's totally awesome. It used to be on UA-cam but the person who posted it seems to have removed it. Many thanks
i just really love the music behind her voice. that said, I'm loving her voice too! only one album, wow, why is that? with this voice she should of done more. I'll check out the other tracks from miss america, but if I'll enjoy it as much as this, might have to purchase it, does it all flow as an album, or is like sepereate tracks? if that makes sense..
The entire album is fantastic. It has held up for me in the 12 years or so since I happened on it. As of several years ago, she appeared occasionally at Hugh's Room in her hometown, Toronto.
does anybody else get the feeling that she could have done so much more if the producer she was paired with wasn't so intent on trying to hit some strange Paul Simon Graceland vibe and fell short at a cocteau twins knockoff

These stories are the entire point of humanity. Thanks for sharing.
That makes me feel so many ways.
I waited for years to see her live, and it never happened!

Correction : “Martian AWARENESS Ball”
She's SO unique, so gifted and she's ours, Canadian Coolsville. Love you Mary Margaret. Namaste

How did we miss this woman? Maybe she still is around. THIS is utterly brilliant talent.
yeah, i saw her walking around kensington market a while back, too awestruck whenever i see her to say anything...
lol
MMO is such an angel on Earth, I can't even begin to comment....
A most peculiar artist and an even stranger album, is "Miss America". Which makes it utterly and completely brilliant.
Mary is one of greatest singers I have ever heard. Her career is alarmingly stalled, by her own design. I wish there was more.
How many of you bought the record the day after this aired?
I did.
Yep, same here, Frank. Saw the show, bought the album the next day. Still love it to this day. It was so unique then and still is today.
I did too. And still have it. She was beautiful and such an amazing voice
What an amazing event ... Mary Margaret at the top of her game
She was in this video and of course still is a beautiful woman inside and out 😍
Makes me feel very relaxed.Dreamy and Comforting.
Man oh man I miss these days.
So wonderful. I come back pretty much monthly, since just about forever now. Love this song, love MMOH.
I am just discovering MMO today. She is absolutely amazing! Definitely a model for Neko Case.
I saw this when it first aired and have been searching for her ever since...Her album "Miss America" is a masterpiece. Thank you for posting this.

absolutely haunting, and how that steel guitar compliments her voice...
Truly Great!
Seriously speaking... she is a truly unrecognized gem. That's been said before internationally. So my question is...why is that?
Freakin' incredible...what wonderful planet is this beautiful woman from?
The planet of Toronto
In the galaxy canada.
Sublime.
the nbest and my favourite song of hers
Discovered her in ¨Museum Hours.¨ This is more than a decade ago--but exactly where I am in my life!
she is soo gorgeous
AMAZING!
I sooo wanna have her baby!
frankinbolton Careful, you might spawn a monster.
Thanks for posting this. I posted an earlier version, but the quality of your recording is far, far better than mine.
Loving it...

It's still up here, but listed under The Henrys, if you're still looking.
@@karenleighbee I can only find the album version and not the live version on Nightmusic! Do you have a link for it? Many thanks

Two people I would like to meet-Mary Margaret and Katherine. Girls I wish were my crazy cousins
Katherine has an extremely rare medical condition called situs inversus. Look it up!
very nice style. the background is pretty mainstream. can't think of the right word for background.
Here for morrissey
"why Maureen, WHY?!"
What is the name of this song? I missed jt
"When You Know Why You're Happy." Here's the album version: ua-cam.com/video/HDrJN_L5_hE/v-deo.html

It was the late '80's. Everybody was doing that shit. Even Lou Reed. Checkout Mistrial.
That's an interesting comment. I never really thought about the production.
