Now that's a very cool experience. It's not everyday you get to play on a glacier. I don't have a bucket list, but if I did, that would be on it. Thanks guys.
Absolutely breathtaking. Even though I live in a place where I could hike on a glacier, I've never done it and now I am sorry I never made that effort. Thank you so much for the gorgeous footage.
My wife & I visited Alaska a few years ago and got up close to a couple of glaciers but nothing like what you guys did. Makes me think "Dang! We were so close...!" Your videos are just excellent! Thanks so much!
And you've got a new subscriber. Although I now noticed the date is awhile back. See how things can still affect people even years later. That's a trip.
Sometimes I fear for your safety (are you listening Jason?). I always celebrate your spirit, and forever look forward to following in your footsteps. Thanks for all you share. I know it's a lot of work in spite of your obvious talent.
WOW! I had no idea there'd be so much intrigue on "THE NOTE" HAHA. For those that just have to know it was a fellow RV couple that made the trek down "Alaska's Worst Road" and they were inviting us over for a beer...sadly we didn't get home till late and they were early risers so we weren't able to connect. It happens sometimes where people see our rig and stop by to say hi, but we're not home...so they leave a note. It's always nice to get a hand written note from other travelers. Addressing some of the other questions: Safe Hiking - We were told by the Wrangell - St. Elias National Park service that the glacier is not covered in snow and therefore it is safe to walk on without worry of unexpectedly falling into crevasse. Crampons Not Necessary - We were told by many that Crampons weren't necessary, but if you really want to spend some time on the glacier they are a must and can be rented for $20 at the local outfitters in town. Jason is Crazy - Yes, he is and although it might not have been the smartest thing to do getting that close to the crevasse we all survived...and yes it looked way worse than it really was. If you want to read more details on how to get here, what the roads are like, where to camp, etc read our post: www.gonewiththewynns.com/glacier-hike-mccarthy-alaska
I was *curious* about "the note". And, I was also *curious* about the rental rate for the crampons. And, you addressed both, so Thank You! ["Curiosity" has a nice ring to it, like it could almost be the name of a Catamaran???!!]
This was really fun to watch! I have a disability that keeps me from being able to do these things myself, so it's always great to see good footage and hear accounts of what it's like.
That was AMAZING I was on the edge of my seat and holding my breath anytime you guys walked 'to close' to the edges and when Justin kept creeping to use the camera to look over the side holy cow..... aside from all of that and I am glad that everything went well, the footage was absolutely stunning and for someone who is afraid of glaciers this was a great way to see everything from the safety of my own home yet still have the thrill and anxiousness along with you.. I loved this one.. you guys are Awsome.. I am still binge watching sorry I am hooked you are so fun and real and your experiences are amazing🤗 I really love you guys along with Cleo and Singa💖💜💖💜💖
This is one of the most amazing videos you have produced to date. Jason scared me easing out on that one ledge without being safety off. Had he slipt there would be no saving him. The scenery was so beautiful and pristeen.
Spectacular views! Absolutely breathtaking. Thank you so much for sharing this amazing hike with us. Nikki sometimes I think you need to put a leash on Jason....he looked like he got way too close! You guys are the best!
This was absolutely beautiful. As good as any documentary...Be careful...Maybe you need one of those small drones in this type of situation with the camera....Such beauty....
Wonderful trip and hike footage. You did a superb job on the video, as usual. I'm amazed that you drove that motorhome out to McCarthy. Some video from the trip would have been interesting. It's sad to see the glacier melting at such a fast rate, but, I guess that's the time we live in, plus, they melt some every summer naturally. The leaning over the edge part was super scary. I probably would've done it, also, but a rope would have made me feel more comfortable. Thanks again, and Happy Trails!
I've been to the foot of the Athabasca Glacier in Alberta, Canada. We walked on it a small ways but didn't have Crampons. It was still an experience! Excellent video!
Edge of Alaska is one of my fav shows! I started watching your video without reading the description and when i started to recognize the scenery i was like....WHAT!!! :)
I was glad to hear of the note too. It was just a cool lil' adventure type of moment. Did you ever get in touch with the people that left it later after the trip? And had you guys ever seen the tv series "Edge of Alaska"..about McCarthy...and the whole Neil trying to bring in travelers to that exact Kennecott mines area and the people that live there fought about it all, especially Jeremy...and they had a lil' showdown on that same walking path that you guys were on at one point..trip huh?? Neil owns the saloon, etc in town..I think you went to. I gotta watch more of your stuff later..I found you through looking at McCarthy and Kennecott, and you guys are pretty cool to watch. Let's us kind of feel like we're there even though we can't go...you're giving us a precious lil' glimpse, so I appreciate all the lil' zoom ups and the lil' things, the details...even if you don't think they would be important...sometimes people need or can use, or want the smallest lil' aspect.
Great report. Awesome sights. It looked like a good day.Watch out where the huskies go and don't you eat that yellow snow.Looking forward to the next installment.
Wow awesome video...although I'm now convinced your both a bit insane. Seeing what you were walking on from what I know of glaciers was a possible fall into a deep crevasse some places obvious and even more dangerous the places its not solid underneath your feet. I'm shocked there was no guide and you weren't all roped together...I'm so glad you had a wonderful experience though.
omg i just commented and i feel like im the only way baring negativity too. like wth, no ropes, no axes, probably no ice screws. jumping around without crampons... couldve easily slid into the small creek and be swept in the rivers that run under the glacier. im skeptical whether they even have the experience or know how to RESCUE with a rope lol im more or less shocked and concerned to EVERYONE watching this thinking it is cool.. PLEASE dear god do NOT do this. i would count them lucky. wear crampons. rope in together. dont leap and bound over crevasses or glacier streams. every step you take is a risk and a chance to die. its not funny
We did the exact same hike in may 2015 and boy it was the best experience ever. The only difference, our guide had a stove and hot chocolate and apple cider and he used the glacier water.
Great Video!!!!! Was very nice to meet you both at the Teklanika Campground. We drove by here but was pressed for time and didn't stop into McCarthy. Looks like that is on the list for the next trip. Glad you both liked it. Did you stop and the Matsunaga Glacier as well? Anyways will continue to watch your videos!!! Lisa says Hi and Aloha!!!!!
Gorgeous! Can't wait to get up there and enjoy it. (A little too close on the one shot Jason, you almost got free admission at the glacial water park :) )
Awesome hike. Did you ever worry that you might fall through the ice? Might be a dumb question, sorry if it is. McCarthy sure is different from what you have shown as compared to the show, "Edge of Alaska". Yeah, I thought Jason a bit crazy for some of the GREAT shots he took. Thanks for sharing.

What precautions did you take in case of injury? Because Jason took some seirous risk getting the shot of "the hole" and from my POV, it was reckless. Don't kid around when you're that isolated. Be safe, and bring back more videos!
About how many hours was your hike? Where would be the closest kennel for our dog? Great video perhaps the best one yet. We will try do make the same trip but since its a Nat'l Park we cannot take our dog (even though he'd love that hike w/ booties on of course). Thanks.
Looks beyond amazing! So how was McCarthy? I see it on the TV show and the people who live there are a different breed. You meet Neal, owner of most of the town? On TV he comes across as kind of a control freak and jerk, but he does get stuff done. If he can reopen the Mine that would be real cool... Awesome photos Jason...
Awesome video, quick question I noticed you guys where using Sony action instead of GoPro do you prefer Sony over GoPro? Have you guys used GoPro before?
+520wsd We've been using our GoPro forever and added the Action cam when we added the a6000 to our camera gear. So far it's been great with the Zeiss lens and built in stabilizer and splashproof design without the case. Can't say it's better than the new GoPro but it's definately better than our Hero 3+ Black
Mr. Wynn. Do you know who Misha Collins is? You remind me a LOT of him! Great guy. Fantastic actor. And a LOT like you! Thank you both for the hours of entertainment!

You guys by far make the best videos out there. You background music is perfect, not too over bearing and very pleasant. Great Job. Thank you.

Is the couple miles one way or round trip? How cold was it, standing on a chuck of ice? Looks just beautiful. Thanks.

Thanks for these.

beautiful thank you so much
Looks beyond amazing! So how was McCarthy? I see it on the TV show and the people who live there are a different breed. You meet Neal, owner of most of the town? +Fat Guy Travels What TV show are you speaking of??
It's called "Edge of Alaska" Season ended last night. I guess it will be back next year. Good show, tough living for all the people...
