I do a policy of "one in and multiple out" because I'm still minimizing my home and don't feel I'm totally in "maintenance mode" yet. But regular decluttering is so important for maintaining a simpler home. I declutter as part of my routine as well as continuing my major minimizing of the house. As you go about laundry, cooking etc., it gets easier to see what can go. I feel I'm nearing the end of the major declutter which is nice. 😊 Hi Kathy! Love the dynamic duo ❤
My father died earlier this year. He was a graphic designer and calligrapher. We have been given an art folder with a lot of his work going back over nearly 80 years. I have just been given it to look through and there is nothing in there that is worthy of being framed and displayed but there are some nice pencil sketches from the 1940's when he was in Art School and some pieces of calligraphy. I am making 'passes over the pile of paper getting rid of bits that are not really worth keeping. I have now ended up with enough of Dads work to put in an A3 pocket presentation folder. This means that his best work will be in a single folder and not as loose pieces as they are now. It can then be passed round the family and be looked at easily without damage and all nicely contained!
Interesting to hear and see how much the poorly and cheaply made items are contributing to the landfill pollution problems. So many cheap, plastic items, ( including most clothes) I cannot purchase because of the smell/ off gassing. It smells horrible and it is so toxic. This is so frustrating and sad. I’m just glad to see I’m not the only noticing. These are such motivating videos.
It really is frustrating and sad. I have noticed just in the last 4 to 7 years this situation is getting way worse. I try to buy quality items and no matter the price or where it is made I am finding things are made to break and "not last". It is very annoying. My mom just had to replace her fridge that was only a few years old because it just stoped working and it would have cost more to fix it. A few months ago I had to replace my 4 year old washing machine because it broke and again there was no way to fix it.
Sugar bowl ( pretty..but no one ever comes for tea😅 ) Throw blanket ( too heavy, too many ) Baby afghan (nvr used, tired of saving when DD doesn't want ) Throw pillow insert Seasonal decor Lantern decor Shirts ( ugly ) Spray bottle ( good but do not use ) Essential oils ( tried to like but they are just too strong for me ) Socks ( saved to clean dust with and still don't like that method ) Coat Tennis ball ( pups don't fetch LOL ) There is ALWAYS something to let go off! Go US!!
I love seeing you two together. I lost my Mom 2 years ago when she was 73 from a 2 year battle with ALS. I miss her so much. And her name was also Kathy. You both bring a smile to my day ❤
Thanks ladies for the encouragement! I have an extra laundry bin in my laundry room lined with a trash bag. Whenever I find something to donate I add it to that bag. When the bag is full I take it to the donation center.
I like to collect all of my donations in a container that I can just drop off (cardboard box, plastic or paper bag) so that I don't have to transfer them. It helps to not be tempted to keep something that I had decided to part with. Thanks for the decluttering encouragement. Hugs from Alberta 🇨🇦
Awesome video... I'm so glad you got your mom to hop aboard the decluttering train! My mom is 5 years older than yours and I've started some decluttering with her too. She's really good with money and doesn't overbuy things so there's not a lot that needs to go but she also doesn't get rid of items that are perfectly good so I encourage her to let go of things that she doesn't need to keep if nobody is using them. We've gone through board games and I want to check the kitchen for expired food next.
It’s so easy when you explain why your getting rid totally helps me on why I’m keeping those certain items that do me or my family no good ! Thanks you two ❣️
When my kids were small I’d buy them L.L. Bean backpacks. They last a long time and if they break you can return or exchange them anytime. Loved them!! Thanks for another fun video with your mom! ❤😊🐦
I absolutely love your mother daughter videos. My daughter and I are really close and this is what we do as well. We help each other go through our closets!
Ah! My two favourite, 'declutter bugs'! I'm going to declutter a couple of kitchen cupboards tomorrow, I'll rewatch your kitchen decluttering videos while I'm doing it! It'll be fun!!!!!😁😜🤪😝😬
I got some new jeans..too big at the waist so I got the new belts that snap around the first belt loop and you don't have to undo a belt if you have to use the washroom and the belts hold the jeans tight around your waist.
Ur mom is just so funny & cute. Love ur channel. Talking back packs we have llbean & we have ours fir yrs holds up great & they replace them free. We monogram them to very cute. Lunchboxes, too.
I love how you break down the details of holding on and decluttering, and the thinking behind it. Love you two together. Beautiful smiles, uplifting laughter and always informative and motivating. Thank you. 💕
You two are great with your decluttering. I declutter every day when I see an item that I know longer need or want. The goodwill is 1 mile down the road from me so there is no excuse for getting my items there. I had two-yard sales this year and I was very pleased that I had sold most. The rest got donated. I need to do my makeup again. Tomorrow is the day! I have decided that I will only buy 1 new Christmas decor this year. Well... I bought an outside new door mat. Not buying anything else for decor. I cleaned out my attic and garage. Feels so good.
I keep a basket behind our bedroom door for donations. Once full it's bagged and put in the car. Currently a bag is in the car ready to be donated when I run errands Friday norning.
I put things l find when l am cleaning or changing from season to season clothing. I put it in boxes or bags in the front closet so when it gets full l take it to different thrift places l like to support!
I’m in the process of selling my beautiful condo so I can live closer to my daughter. What I enjoy is the bond between you and your Mom ( I would love to have her as a friend!!😅) I’m downsizing as I prepare for my eventual move. Watching your videos have made a huge impact on my process. Just today, I donated my tablecloths and some really nice dinnerware! 😊 Thanks to both of you for sharing ❤
It’s really amazing how much accumulates continually. I routinely schedule Salvation Army home pick ups and there’s always more! Life is always changing and our needs change along with it. It’s such a good feeling knowing someone else can use the things you no longer need. I keep a donation box in my garage and it’s easy to add things to it.
You're an inspiration! I am dying to switch out my warm weather and cold weather clothes, but we are having a stretch of 80 degree days here in New England. It'll be in the 50s on Sunday so I can't wait to see what I can get rid of this time!
Watched two of your videos and just had to subscribe! I’m a declutterer and still can use more motivation. Helped a friend years ago who was a hoarder. She still held onto a lot, but did improve. Every year it gets easier for me to “let go”. You two really make it seem less stressful and have a fresh approach❤
When you can see & touch things you plan to declutter without second-guessing your decision, it’s a milestone! People often say get it out right away or put it in a black trash bag.
Wonderful to see you both, as always. I've recently decluttered and cleaned, always a great feeling. The hardest part is decluttering a nice dress that I spent a lot of money on that still is great quality, but I just don't feel good in; meaning, it's just not me, but is still comfortable. I need to just get rid of it, so I don't go down that rabbit hole with it again....LOL Thank you, ladies.
hello girls. I love seeing your mom on the shows with you. I am much closer to her age than yours I started decluttering a few years ago. And alot of the things she says about random objects…. Yup. Ive said that too. But finally really getting rid of more things. Now. When I come across anyhthing I dont need as I put it in my declutter bin. Its a big deal. Yes!!! One more thing Gone. Keep up the great work. Thank you ❤
I love this video series you do and the whys! I tend to skip any videos of anyone else's I watch if they don't explain why. It's just not much fun to watch. I also keep a box and put anything in there that I want to get rid of. It takes me much longer now to fill it up.
Love these videos! It’s so motivational to me to hear your reasoning for decluttering what you do.❤ It’s like getting permission to let go of things that don’t serve us well.😂
Make sure you clean as in remove any personal data , banking data in the phone before donating, there will be videos on how to do that for the specific brand model
Staples take batteries and technology to recycle as well as ink cartridges. You usually can fine the recycling cart when you come in near the check out counter.
OK, Shannon and Cathy you have inspired me once again. This time I will go through my pajamas! Soma pjs are my favorite but they last forever and I have too many! LOL
My daughter is on her 4th year of school with her Herschel back pack. Probably going to upgrade next year but only because she could use a bigger backpack. It's frustrating to spend money on something to have it fall apart.
Shannon, this kind of video is so helpful . I am ready to reassess some of my earlier decisions on why I kept somethings and find that I'm now ready to let them go. Cheers
Thank you so much for being here and sharing that. I sometimes wonder if people are getting sick of these videos, but I continue to make them when I get a comment like yours =)
It’s funny the things that are hard to let go of. I am starting through clothes now. Under garmets and pjs first. Ugh. What a hard job letting go is! You two inspire me. Thanks, judy
Socks too! I was amazed how nice it is to select socks now that I decluttered the worn out and too small ones. They all fit now and are in decent shape!

I love seeing the mother/daughter interactions. Great job ladies.
Thanks so much
Shannon, I love it when your Mom is in your videos. She is closer in age & I can relate to her. Plus, she's just so adorable & fun. 😊
Thank you so much!
These videos with your mom are my favorites. Maybe because I'm 54, I can't relate to her. The interaction between you two is so cute!
I really enjoy you two together. I’m always inspired to let go of more unused, unworn and unneeded things when I watch your videos.
Yes me too! 😊

Once a month decluttering great idea ❤mama top beautiful color looks fantastic on with her cheery personality
I enjoy hearing the reasoning behind getting rid of items. It helps me get rid of some things that I may be on the fence about. ❤

😊 thank you

Thank you (and your mom ) for these videos . They are great guides for me when i need to make more common sense decisions on my stuff.
Thanks ladies for the encouragement! I have an extra laundry bin in my laundry room lined with a trash bag. Whenever I find something to donate I add it to that bag. When the bag is full I take it to the donation center.

Well done to the both of you on your decluttering love from Eugenie your friend xxx 🌟🌞💓🍁🌹
Thank you always for your videos. You and your mom are so pleasant and relatable. Hello from SC!🏖😎
Thank you so much!
LL Bean backpacks. We got my daughter one for 1st grade and it lasted through elementary school. Well worth the price.
Yes!! The best backpacks!!! ❤🐦
I absolutely love your mother daughter videos. My daughter and I are really close and this is what we do as well. We help each other go through our closets!
I love your relationship it mirrors the one I had with my Mother who passed away last year. Treasure each other.
Shannon Dear please accept my deepest gratitude for uploading such a motivational video!

😊 thank you

Just love your mum. You are so lucky to share the relationship you do. I'm 60 so I better get onto this Swedish business too!
I love how you break down the details of holding on and decluttering, and the thinking behind it. Love you two together. Beautiful smiles, uplifting laughter and always informative and motivating. Thank you. 💕
Thank you so much!
Hi Shannon & Kathy ❤ always love seeing what you find to declutter. It pushes me to take another look in my home. Still praying for peace here 🙏🇮🇱💔🙏
Hi Sharon, I am always happy to get a message from you. That way I know you are still doing ok! I am still praying for peace.
@@shannontorrens1 thanks so much 😘

Great video. I'm probably at the stage now where I can do monthly declutters.
Great job ladies. Ya both did awesome. Thanks for the motivation.
Your mom is a hoot!! I relate to her so much. My kids don't always appreciate my great sense of humor 🤣
I put things l find when l am cleaning or changing from season to season clothing. I put it in boxes or bags in the front closet so when it gets full l take it to different thrift places l like to support!
I love your mum 😊she’s so cool
Goody, more of you 2 together. You guys are so much fun. 😂
Love when you two team up
Well done ladies. The change in Kathy is phenomenal. Well done.

The tool bag thing your mom decluttered reminds me of a travel jewelry bag.
I love these videos! I need to get into the habit of doing this monthly. It was nice seeing Kathy’s declutter bag, as well!
Love hearing your reasons for decluttering things!
I love watching you both declutter and the bond between mom/ daughter is special.
Wow. I agree with you both. I find things to declutter although I have been a minimalist for years. Thank you ladies. Love your channel! ❤
Great video! Love seeing Mon/Daughter duo!
I totally get that falling down jean problem.

so sweet and adorable together, and helps me work harder to clear items also!
These always help me to revisit areas! Anytime I leave the house I take anything decluttered to donation.

Love you two women together! ❤️❤️❤️
I just totally love your videos. All of you tips are very appreciated by this 76 yr old person from Indiana
Thanks for watching!

Cell phones, batteries, printer cartridges can all be recycled at Target or Best Buy.
Love love love you ladies 😊❤️
I love this series you do! It is very motivating
Thank you so much!
I love watching these videos!
Sending good vibes your way ❤
Love your videos. Especially with your mom. Then I can send them to my mom and she can relate to your mom.
OK, Shannon and Cathy you have inspired me once again. This time I will go through my pajamas! Soma pjs are my favorite but they last forever and I have too many! LOL
Great job ladies!! 💖
My daughter is on her 4th year of school with her Herschel back pack. Probably going to upgrade next year but only because she could use a bigger backpack. It's frustrating to spend money on something to have it fall apart.
Remembering my college years, I could have used a bag on wheels. I carried hard covered books and a dictionary. TG for ipads 😂 now a days.
I'm always amazed at what I can declutter! I'm going to have another sizable donation going out this weekend!
Shannon, this kind of video is so helpful . I am ready to reassess some of my earlier decisions on why I kept somethings and find that I'm now ready to let them go.
Cheers
Glad it was helpful!
Oh no, not the snow tire chains - ha ha ha! Too funny...
Love ur videos esp with mum. Can see where the beautiful genes come from. Looking great ladies.
Thank you!
Love watching
Does anyone else start singing Frozen when they see Let It Go in the title? It can be our mantra song as we declutter. 😊
It's funny you say that because I often sing that song in my head LOL.
Yes!!
Bog changes that were/are good for us all!!
I’m hooked on your channel and de clutter series 😮
Thank you so much for being here and sharing that. I sometimes wonder if people are getting sick of these videos, but I continue to make them when I get a comment like yours =)
You two are such an inspiration. Thank you!
Wow, thank you!
As always delightful ❤

Ok ladies, I live in Wisconsin & I don't even have tire chains.
Haha!
I live in Minnesota and have never owned them either. 😂
I had them in NE Ohio but could never seem to get them on the tires!
In Southern California the highway patrol will not let anyone drive up the hill to the ski resorts without chains in the car. Too many cars would get stuck. We're not snow driving pros.
We had snow tires.
Advice for backpacks llbean ones last forever and are washable. We have been using ours for years and years.❤
LL Bean backpacks last and they're not a humongous investment 💕
Land's End or Jansport for good backpacks. Jansport used to have a lifelong guarantee. Not sure if they still do, but it's worth looking into.
I had a Jansport backpack all through middle and high school but when I was looking at the ones they sell at our local store they were not very quality looking. Maybe they only had the cheaper version there. I will look into it online. Thank you for that reminder.
I second on Jansport backpacks. I've had my backpack for over 20 years. I've had the zipper replaced once. Their website explains the lifetime warranty.
I love these.
Great
