    Ashley, your 5/8 10v 40/40 gouge is unreal. Paired with the bottom of bowl gouge I am an unstoppable force of wood manipulation. Anyone on the fence about purchasing these tools needs to take action. They're truly in a class of their own. Thanks again Ashley for the inspiration and continued generosity toward online woodturners.

    Ashley, I have been a turner for about 30 years. like you, I also did many craft shows and Saturday markets. Two years ago I stumbled on your videos. I watched many of your videos several times to adopt your techniques and methods. I also invested in a new lathe. At the time of the upgrade, I also purchased a vicmarc chuck, grinding wheels and a complete set of turning tools with interchangeable handles. What a game changer! I can turn more production faster, and I can also sharpen on the fly with out turning the lathe off. The way I sharpen tools now by adopting your technique is fast. I no longer have to rely on complex jigs that take time to set up and use. I really like the quality, fit and finish of your lathe tools. I also admire the quality of the tool steel you selected. I feel I can sharpen your tools faster and they hold an edge longer. That means I can deliver a quality cut longer and complete an entire pass on a large vessel.
    I would highly recommend these turning tools for the serious professional that wants to turn large bowls and also finer turnings. One day I hope to come visit and take a class from you.
    Job well done!

    Hey Ashley, I purchased basically the very last SB Tools tool rest that the emporium had. Unfortunately they had only had one left at the time. For the other side of my grinder I snagged the standalone rest from woodturner wonders. Unfortunately that rest has a far more limited range of angles, plus it rusts so easily, unlike my SB Tools rest. I was curious if you had anything in the works and/or coming down the pipeline? Thank you very much !

    Interesting. I like the handles, and the rounding on the flutes. Why M2 with RH of 62-64 and not M42 with RH of 68-70? IMHO, makes quite a bit of difference with harder woods such as ipe, Catalina ironwood (Lyonothamnus asplenifolium floribundus) or CA coastal live oak (Quercus agrifolia). M42 tools (e.g. C&S) take a bit more care with sharpening but with 600 grit CBN, not an issue, really.

    Hi Ashley, could you maybe demonstrate a little how these bolsters work in the handle? How accurate has the gouge size to be, in case I use alternative products etc? It looks very interesting, but I wonder if I need a bolster for each gouge, how quickly can the gouge be replaced from bolster etc.
    Would be nice to get more information on this.
    Regards from Germany

      Hi Mario- if you check out my 5 Tools for Bowlturning video, you can see how the tools go in and out of the handle. Yes, for this quick change system, each tool has its own bolster. Yes, the tools need to be accurately sized. Before I had my own true to size gouges, I had to grind the back ends of many of them so that they fit into the bolsters.

    • @AshleyHarwood
      @AshleyHarwood  Рік тому
