I knew it, Rivers is a Cheers fan! (Or maybe the fact that this shares its name with an episode of Cheers is a coincidence)
Stop thinking about the band for a minute and think about whether you like the songs or not. Bands aren't locked in to one sound.

I like it it's chill and it sounds like they had fun with it.
I get annoyed that people can't get over how they used to sound. The new stuff is really good - and it's not the same, and that's a good thing!
Any time a rock band tries a different sound, it's always pop. You're only listening to this because it was made by weezer, if it was made by a pop artist, you wouldn't care
Much easier to listen to if I assume it isn't Weezer, but Weeze. Perfectly good pop music, but that doesn't resonate with me at all. I feel exactly the same way about this album as I do Hurley. It's just a completely different band that doesn't have my heart.
I don't know what the fuss was about this album it was pretty good to me

I didn't bond with it immediately. I waited, let it come back to the player later and now, years later in 2020 I'm loving it!
It's really grown on me. I didn't hate it to begin with. Some of the songs I immediately liked.
QB Blitz, Any Friend of Diane's, Weekend Woman, Mexican Fender, Feels Like Summer are my favorites.

Listening to the lyrics " Diane would help me pass out all the flyers and I became a big shot and she got sick one day. I still have the map she gave to me, I'd be lost without it" I can't help but wonder if this is a synbolic nod to the late Weezer fan club founders Mykel & Carli. They would pass out flyers and do anything for the guys, and there is the map for Mykel & Carli in the Pinkerton album. And yes, when the guys became big shots M&C, along with their sister Trista, died in a car accident while heading to a Weezer show. Last week I actually found an old lyric sheet the girls gave me 23 years ago 😊.

Check out the interview Rivers did with NPR yesterday, he mentioned working at Domino's and his manager making a =w= logo on his jacket.
I have a theory that Rivers and Post Malone were hanging out with Ethan from H3H3 and that's how the lyric got changed.

Marshmellow Vibes No, but they're terribly rude sometimes. Every other song they make is a "sellout" or them "losing their touch." I mean, I've noticed a ton of people like every song on the album, but they bash every other song except the one they're lsitening too. They don't have to like it, but you don't have to act like it's objectively bad.

Well the problem with any fanbase is that when you release an awesome album like the blue album, fans want every album to sound like it

Memories Tour was one of my favorite concerts ever. I love those albums. This. This is right up there in its own right, in its own time. Amazing, catchy, and different yet familiar.
I think Rivers’ slight lisp in this song sounds kind of cool, actually.

Maybe they de-essed it too aggressively while mixing his vocals
They either fucked up in the studio (not hard to believe with the over produced quality of all the tracks), or Rivers intentionally is singing with a lisp

sad how people don't get over the idea of weezer doing something different that he used to do, guys let's just open our minds and ears for new things, your favorite band weezer have tried, why wouldn't you try too, huh? :)
nothing bad with trying something different, the song just feels like any other pop song you could find on the radio last decade. to me it feels basic, corporate, and bland, this wouldnt be a problem if we didnt know what they used to do, so they are perceived as selling out. they wouldnt get as much anger if they had always been this way, but they would be just like any other maroon 5 clone. imo its not so much trying something different and more like taking a gamble loaded in their own favour, but whatever, like what you like, doesnt matter much to me.

there doesn't need to be a lot of rock for it to be good tho. The new Paramore album has very little rock, but is arguably their strongest album yet. Pacific Daydream is just .. bland and upsettingly mediocre, especially after EWBAITE and the White Album
As someone who's also a huge fan of EWBAITE and the White album, I'm really liking these. Not as much I guess, but liking it.
I really liked Beach Boys, Happy Hour, and Sweet Mary, but yeah, the rest of it's trash at worse and background music at best.
Mr.Pat You literally like the worst songs on the album. The best songs are Mexican Fender, Weekend Woman, QB Blitz, La Mancha Screwjob, and Any Friend of Diane’s. In the middle is Sweet Mary, Feels Like Summer and Get Right. The worst are Beach Boys and definitely Happy Hour. Happy Hour is the worst lyrically and sound because of the electronic music used in it.

Why is he using a lisp in this song???
There’s a specific type of compression used on vocals called a de-esser. It’s used for when your “ss” sounds come across louder than you want in the mix. Since the cymbals and snare were so crisp in this mix, they probably were stuck with a dilemma about whether to turn the drums down or over-de-ess the vocals and they decided that cranked up drums were more important.

I dont think it was this album actually has pretty sloppy production.
Jacob Bastian nah you can tell because the “f”s and “sh”s are really subdued as well. The “ss” sound is still there, it’s just turned down so hard that the remaining frequencies in the sound sound more like a “th”.

Where's the Seperate White Album, {Platinum Edition}, i thought that's what EP's were for, i might as well purchase a, " Tek-ken Album of Weezer from my Techie-Buds, until There's some Sprites Left, if there isn't a better offer...".
To me, this is the same girl from feels like summer. Any Friend of Dying is a friend of mine. Sounds like he loses everyone he loves.
Okay last track of the album here’s my opinion(key word opinion). After listening to all of the tracks I really don’t see anything special.the lyrics are incredibly basic and the production is really “poppy”. I see a lot of people saying they feel it’s a modern version of the green album or Pinkerton. I disagree with that, it has no where close to the rough almost industrial sound of Pinkerton and although it’s production matches the green album more the lyrics aren’t as thought out (not saying the greens albums lyrics are super intricate but still). This album shares more of a similarity to Ratitiude in my opinion. Before you hit me with the “well they’re just being themselves” this is a band. You can make music based off of what you like and you can be yourself but if you make albums that sound so drastically different from each other than you’re most likely not going to keep all of your fans who found the first album as well received as Pinkerton or the Blue Album was. Also with this being a more pop flavored album it sounds more in the direction of trying to get radio play instead of appealing to the core audience of Weezer and appealing for radio play is not going to work well with out a strong core fan base that loves albums like this and want it on the radio. So I’m not saying he can’t be himself but he can’t be upset if the album numbers don’t do well or if it doesn’t get much radio play. Overall this album wasn’t as good as most things in their discography. I most likely wouldn’t find myself coming back to listen to another song on this album besides “Get Right” and “La Mancha Screw Job”. This is only my opinion so don’t get upset if we don’t see eye to eye. Still looking forward to the black album. Peace out
