Hi Guys I'm a 5ft 6" 54 year old NATTY Powerlifter. Training since I was 17yrs old. My Best lifts are 462lbs- 320lbs -485lbs single ply @148lbs . I know these aren't very impressive numbers, but I enjoy competing with myself. The more time passes the more I realise that this is NOT an exact science! There are so many ascending and descending factors that can Influence my performance.. What I have learned, is DON'T feel you have to stick to the program exactly - to listen to your body & don't be too proud to switch to the occasional light easy workout, If your CNS tells you to Good luck ...... Remember some times Less IS More!
I met Lee Labrada in 1992 at the grand opening of GNC and Woodfield mall in Schaumburg Illinois. All the way back then the man was an absolute class act and had so much patience with all of his fans who had been lined up, waiting to see him. He was also wider than the door frame he walked through. Now I’m 50 and this man is still a massive inspiration.
I’m 63yo and I’ve been fighting sarcopenia with resistance training for two years. I just got (mostly) serious about nutrition and supplements this year and I’m definitely the most defined I’ve ever been. However, I’m not sure I’m adding any size, which might be due to a combination of my age and the fact that I also do a lot of cardio (running and cycling). Still, it’s nice to be the fittest I’ve ever been…even if I would gladly trade it for being young again. 🤷♂️💯
@cefrayer, Great work on fighting the good fight. FWIW, it was when I cut back on the 'traditional cardio' was when I saw my greatest gains friend. Putting on mass is absolutely feasible when you manipulate the variables. 20# of functional muscle mass were packed onto my frame and I hope you can do the same. Keep up the consistent work!
This dude still looks phenomenal! I remember bring inspired by him when I first started lifting at 16 years old... back in 80s. He was always in magazines and top shows. Amazing testament to the sport. OG
Lee I'm 60 in July and I'm lifting again. Just suber you i remember you from before when i was a younger man so i listen. I will know the riddle of steel
Great stuff as always! Wondering what principals you learned when you were younger, perhaps from weider or any of your peers, that you now find debunked or unnecessary?
Injury prevention is absolutely vital otherwise you'll go back to square one very very quickly. Learn the basic compound lifts and perfect your form. Don't add tons of weight initially. Get your bloods done first - full metabolic profile.
Almost 53 and pretty happy with what I've been able to maintain, but the top of my forearms are showing signs of sarcopenia (I feel like this is a weak spot for most guys after 50 from what I've seen). Any suggestions other than trt?
Do you have more of an issue with pain in you right shoulder then in your left? We are built similar in our shoulder length and my right shoulder has more of tendency to pain. 70 year old natural bodybuilder. Over a thousand subs.
Lee, I'm over fifty and I had a heart attack over a month ago; and therefore, as a result, they've put me on a statin drug. Since many people over fifty take such cholesterol-lowering drugs, have you seen them overcome sarcopenia and build significant tissue (without any PED usage)?
I am not happy about how limited my muscle growth is. It's a bummer that there is nothing that we can do once we hit our plateau--nothing natural, anyways. No amount of hard work will produce any new results at that point.
Dont forget the hormones. thyroid, sex hormones, growth hormone. these diminish strongly with age so if you want to keep building muscle and maintain it these hormones NEED to be in order. go get a bloodtest and then work out the solution with or without your doctor. its your health.

to add size you need a caloric surplus PLUS dont forget hormones. trt in your 60's is a no brainer. even better HRT: hormone recplacemtn therapy

Lee. I was a huge fan of yours. You have an amazing build. Considering your competition was so much taller you stood with them
Pushups and pullups throughout the day and body weight squats and lunges.
Mr lambrada for men after 40s and especially natural ones what kind of training split routine will you recommend?Thank you!!
How hard is it to gain muscle 50. Great video
Very hard. Just get cut up. No bulking.
