- Watch as I remove a totally shot fuel delivery system from a 1980 R107 SL. Needs hoses, clamps, filter, fuel pump, and more. Requests have come in for help so I am releasing an overhaul kit with video instructions CLICK HERE: mercedessource...
Love that glossy blue paintjob. Reminds me of those expensive Siku-toy cars.
Had the same issues on my C 107 recently. My 1980 SLC has all the common problems you list on your 107 videos. Keep them coming.👍
Isn't that Crunchy? I kind of like him! (her?)
Yes it is. From the good end...lol
@@Mercedessource Funny how the quarters look good but the trunk lid is rusted quite badly. Oh well, it's just Crunchy! [love that name]
Yes it’s important to replace the fuel filter and fuel pump and hoses, especially if the car sat for a while with old gas stuck in the system, my 380sl sat 5 years and barley ran before it will just bog out, easy to do
When i was doing this on my 123 wagon. The big hose from the Tank to the pump just broke in two pieces. You really need to check everything in this area.
My dad have mersatea 560 sl 1988 Benz
I'm purchasing a 1979 model 116 450 sel 6.9 liter seller says it need a intank fuel pump. So your videos show fuel pumps assemblys. Please advise.
The 6.9 does not have an "in-tank" fuel pump. The fuel pump, filter, and accumulator are mounted below the tank by the rear axle. Due to age, it is best to replace the entire fuel delivery system, including all the rubber hoses. Here is a link to my kit:. mercedessource.com/store/69-fid
Just ordered the kit for my 74. Is the check valve included? I'm not seeing it in the photo. Thanks so much!
The check valve comes already attached to the pump. Thanks
@@Mercedessource Thank you so much!!!
Why doesnt anyone address the 450sl Fuel Pressure Damper ? Doesnt it also need to be replaced?
The fuel damper is a hollow can. Nothing inside can fail. So, it can be cleaned up and reused. If it leaks, it will have to be replaced, but new ones are not available.
Hi, I have watched a few of your videos trying to figure out the fuel system. Well, I have a problem with what I think is the Fuel Tank Flow Valve. I replaced the original with a secondary part that was made after the first was cancelled. The new part is almost the same, but not quite. The original has vent holes on both sides & air could only pass through one, well the new part has holes only on one side and passes air through both sides. Could this lead to rough idle, rough driving, rich fuel, and cold start valve problems?
I've never looked at the set-up on my 1989 300CE. I guess they can rot just the same.
Any suggestions Kent?
Any system over 25 years old - regardless of mileage - get it up in the air, remove the shroud and inspect it carefully. If it is a car you care about and drive regularly and want reliability - replace the components
Hello and thank you for the super informative videos. I have two questions I hope you can help me with, I have an 81 380 SL, I'm looking to change the wheels and the steering wheel to an older model. For the wheels I want to use the 14" steel wheels with hub caps as shown on your video car. For the steering wheel I want to use the older generation sl steering wheel with the chrome ring. Question is do you know if these changes will work on an 81 380 SL? before I go on the hunt for these wheels, hub caps and steering wheel. thank you and keep the videos coming!
I'm going to order the kit and internal fuel filter kit. But do you need to replace the fuel damper and accumulator also? I see these are readily available from other sources. Thanks.
The damper is hollow and usually does not need replacing. You can order the accumulator separately on my website. Thanks. mercedessource.com/store/1978-1980-w116-r107-c107-v8-fuel-delivery-overhaul-kit-limited-video-instructions
Thanks very much for the info. I'll be sure to order the accumulator with it when I am ready to do the upgrade.
Really enjoying your videos as I am stuck with my 1994 220E after fuel pump failed in Kenya
Hey Ken have you ever converted the one peice oil pan on the 380sl with the two pan from a 380sel? I’m doing the switch on my 380sl and curious only why later r107s have a single oil pan while early ones have two piece pans
Great video, thanks. Can this kit be used on an '86 560sl as well? She's been sitting for quite some time and will definitely need the rear fuel system parts changed out.
The 560SL is quite different from the 450SL. Two fuel pumps are required, filter is different and some of the hoses are also different. I will have a 560SL kit available in about a week. Thanks
@@Mercedessource Oh ok great info, thank you for your reply.
Rhino Ramps, I got 2. Im gonna get 2 more
My god.
Did my whole head gasket on Rhino Ramps.
JOUMACH FOR THE KIT .. 1981 450SL
Are you sure it is a 1981 model. They stopped making the 450SL in 1980. Here is the list of my kits. It car vary for the 450SL. mercedessource.com/store/search?keys=FID
Great stuff! Would like to see a video on lower door seal replacement. Not much at all on UA-cam!
Hello. My 72 350SL fires up when cold but not when warm. AlMost as if starving for fuel. Went under and felt fuel running through line by fuel pump when the ignition is turned. BUT yesterday as I was checking a noticed a small light coming from under engine on passenger side when the engine was turned over. Turned out to be a small FIRE!!! looks somewhat under the header area. Small little flame until you crank it and then gets bigger. I’m assuming because fan blew and gave O2??
My question: is there a fuel
Line that runs by there that maybe is cracked? Trying to figure out where the fuel source for the fire came from. Someone mentioned a leaking injector but stents those on top of engine over the valve cover? How would gas be under be the headers? No obvious sign of gas leaking or smell of raw gas.
Not sure how to deal with this. Afraid to even drive to a shop
Do not start or drive the car until you find the leaks and replace rotten rubber hoses. There are hoses on the top of the engine near the fire wall. Fuel could be leaking down from there. If you can't fix it yourself then have it towed to a shop. An engine fire is not pretty and very dangerous.
need to replace the metal fuel line from the filter to the pump 1983 380SL. Do you have this part available? Dan Sharp
Hi Dan, Sorry we have no source for that. Not even sure if it is made. You might check with the Mercedes Classic Center or used on eBay.
👍🏻👍🏻
Will this work for a 73 450slc?
From 1972 to 1975 a different fuel injection delivery system was used: Here is the link to learn more: mercedessource.com/store/1972-1975-r107-350sl-450sl-complete-fuel-pump-conversion-kit
@@Mercedessource thank you so much! One more question. Do these old fuel tanks rust on the inside after time?
Yes, that is very common, and if you don't clean and/or seal the tank before installing a new pump, the rust particles can ruin the pump. You can remove the fuel filter screen at the bottom of the tank to inspect both the tank and the screen's condition. It will require a special tool here: mercedessource.com/store/r107-fuel-tank-filter-screen-custom-removal-tool
Nice video what is the third cylinder on the end? A fuel pressure regulator?
That is correct
1980 450 SL fuel filter, Accumulater kit?
There are two different systems that showed up in 1979 and 1980. You will need to determine if you have a single hole or two hold accumulator and then find my kit that relates to your system. mercedessource.com/store/search?keys=450SL%20fid
i Just had to repair line from my tank on my 83 380 sec
I got a problem with my 1975 450 SL starts for 3 seconds n stops we checked all electrical from front engine to back power everywhere pump works new fuel relay??? Got any ideas ?
Good clip thanks
A fuel Kit for a 560sl would be great Ken.
Coming soon. :-)
Are the kits still available? looks like the link isn't allowing access to your store. I am getting access denied when I tried to link.
Not sure why you had a problem. Link seems to be working fine. Here it is again. Thanks. mercedessource.com/admin/commerce/product-pages?keys=R107+fuel+pump&field_part_number_value&field_product_category_tid=All&commerce_stock_override_value=All&status_1=1
