The Kid Ok. For example, do you not think the Captain America scene would have been equally as impactful and even more logical had Captain America just popped onto the platform that was like 5 feet away as an old man? @@hamishhalliday856 She had the glitch happen, and then instead of going back like she should have, she stayed in the past to try and help the others. Nebula's fuck up is the main reason why thanos could travel through time
33:40 The russos confirmed he was in another timeline and then came back once he was old to the OG timeline. Why did he show up in a bench instead of in the platform? No reason, just because the russos wanted to have him sitting in the bench like an old man. It´s stupid, I know, but that´s the canon explanation. It really shows how fucked the time travel is in this movie that most people are arguing about this.
Time travel is just inherently too unintuitive to be put in a movie that also needs to be about the Superfriends saving the universe from Pruneface and be able to entertain random 10-year olds and their parents.
Nebula didn't stay in the past willingly. She was paralyzed. And I don't think Cap needed the platform to come back. Still, they should've been clearer.
Touching on fan requested film recommendations, I think perfect blue would be a pretty interesting film to discuss. I think twice now an interest to check out more animated Japanese media has been discussed, and I feel like that’s a pretty great one to dig into. A blu ray remaster also dropped maybe a month or so ago, so it shouldn’t be particularly hard to dredge up in good quality
I Hate Everything It would’ve been badass if Captain Marvel came in with Yondu’s Space Pirate friends that showed up for his funeral at the end of Guardians 2
Um guys I love Spider-Man the new animated series. MTV Spider-Man with the horrendous animation and it is all I’m thinking about when watching cause it’s all you’re looking at. Still a good show. The animation doesn’t ruin the show for me it’s just the main thing that I’m focusing on when watching. I’m just here to point out you didn’t catch anyone actually contradicting themselves
I saw it a second time and a lot of the issues I had were lessened the second watch. It's a flawed movie and it does feel like a series finale but it's extremely satisfying to watch as a fan of the characters and if you can forgive some of the time travel logic Also Thor is still a dynamic character in the movie. He is clearly broken and he's been broken for 5 years and is trying to be merry, drunk and forget what he's been through. You can see he's just a shadow of his former self who just wants to do something right (when he wants to probably die by snapping everyone back) after screwing up in infinity war.
I’m not onboard with his logic of the timeline I think he’s definitely wrong on how he’s interpreting it. The film doesn’t work for differing reasons than he gave but does work within the points and rules they do give in the film. The film is implying that Cap doesn’t influence anything when he goes back into the past while obviously this is impossible, it does follow the rules that if you simply “ninja” your way through things and drop them back off without any influence nothing changes. The problem is that is just impossible not that it breaks its own rules. I think this is where Adum has been a little bit overwhelmed with understanding how these (admittedly nonsensical rules) work. They work in this world for the emotional sense but it’s just impossible to not influence a chain of events in some way. For a similar logic, Captain America will influence the initial conditions in the timelines (butterfly effect) by just dropping them off.
I'm actually curious to hear what the guys think about Avengers, I've heard some people think the first hour is really boring. I personally enjoyed the whole experience!
I agree. I particularly really enjoyed Thor's character. I thought all the humour really effectively emphasised how far he's fallen and the toll it's taken on him. I winced at almost every joke, not because it was cringe-worthy, but because I felt bad for how obviously messed up his mental state was. Even seeing Thor yelling at a kid online, unproductively hurling abuse at someone smaller than him, really works effectively. I do feel like sometimes the Sardonicast guys see a contemporary reference (i.e. to Fornite) and then immediately assume bad writing is at play.
@@dublinjake Yeah, the toxic internet mentality shows how much Thor needs fulfillment and how much he wants to feel important. I think that was expressed in a really good way throughout the movie.
@@roycastanon5754 Oh I criticise DC as much as anyone. Suicide Squad is one of the few films that pissed me off with how bad it was. I just totally disagree with the idea that his character was shit, and I disagree with it plainly and simply. It's an effective extension of the goofiness built up around him in Ragnarok. The only difference between a lot of the scenes in Ragnarok where Thor is humiliated and in Endgame where he is humiliated is that now Thor has lost any hope of winning. He feels personally responsible for the most appalling event in the history of the universe and for erasing any possibility of undoing it and he cannot even tolerate the name Thanos by the time Rocket and Hulk come to pick him up.
Dublin Jake yeah but they could have showed that in a different way. Show him as a drunk yes but not fat and playing fornite. They could have showed him as a lonely drunk who is filled with anger at himself and overall handled it more seriously.

“It does not work as a stand-alone film” tbh I don’t really think it’s trying to be a stand alone film. You don’t read 21 chapters of a book and expect the 22nd chapter to work by itself
I agree, although it doesn't help that Infinity War works really well as its own movie as well. Many of the character moments are a bit confusing, but the whole movie is focused on Thanos, who is pretty much a brand new character now, so we can follow along with the story fine if the main character is written well. I still don't think it's fair criticism to say Endgame doesn't work on its own though. It never tried to be.
@@uknownada i don't think infinity war works as a standalone film either. If you haven't seen any marvel movies then you won't know who the fuck these people are and why you should care about them
The difference between a book and this is that a book is its own thing, and this is like the 10th “book” in a series of separate books, not one big book.
Adam saying Eyes without a face is the first film not on his watch list implies that both the starwars prequels and the Madagascar films were on his watch list.
Captain Marvel is just here to be popular and all she did just save the day at the end of the movie. Which is a waste and she becomes the "Eagles who suppose to save the day" in the Lord of the Rings trilogy. The eagles are here!
well she didn’t save the day. she just was able to hold off thanos snapping for a while. he did power stone punch her out of the fight. but her help did allow tony the time to steal the stones and win it all. captain marvel was used the perfect amount.
Felipe Rico Honestly I’m glad she didn’t 😂she was only in the beginning for a brief period and gone for about three hours aand showed up towards the end, only to get her ass handed to by Thanos. She sucked.
Danny Roqs you’re really underhanding all that she did. if captain marvel wasn’t there then Thanos would have one. yes she got over powered but she did do great with what she got to do.
Rogue Virgo not really. She totally disappeared for the majority of the movie and if anything, we probably wouldn’t have missed much had they cut her off. She came off completely unlikable. Regardless if that’s her personality or not.
That scene ruined the movie for me. I don't understand why Super Squidward didn't just use the screeching sounds of his clarinet to distract him. It worked in Guardians of The Ocean so why not this movie?
For fan recommendations, you guys should have a poll and have fans vote between 3 movies: one chosen by each of you and then watch the one with the most votes at the end of the week.
I don't get the Thor hate, they handled him alright in this. Not as organically as Ragnarok or Infinity War, but i thought it wrapped up his character decently.
organically? he has like a personality disorder in phase 3. first he was all arrogant, than he was serious very adult, than he was "funny" and quirky, than he's back at serious again and now he's back to funny again. it's like whatever the director and chris hemsworth felt like doing. the only reason i did not hate him in end game was because i got used to the changes. like... sure, whatever
*I don't really see the issue with Thor, it's a logical continuation of his character arc: after loosing everything he had a shot to redeem himself by killing Thanos and he failed, of course he went into a depression and somewhat reverted back to his old hedonistic self.* And it might have been played for laughs a little too much, but never by the characters themselves who all try to somewhat deal with him and support him.
I agree. He also "got revenge" by finally killing Thanos, but it was an empty victory since Thanos already destroyed the stones. They didn't spell it out with exposition (thank god), but he was unable to reconcile his failure with the fact that there was no way to redeem himself or make things better. He basically murdered an already half-dead, complacent villain who had accomplished his ultimate task. Killing Thanos basically didn't fix or change anything - it didn't even make Thor feel better. The film shows a plethora of ways that each surviving hero deals with failure and loss. Some chose to develop and work on themselves, some wanted to help others, some got buried in work to distract themselves and stay busy, and some (e.g. Thor) chose a destructive path; in this case, it was one of alcoholism and self loathing, while avoiding thinking about it or dealing with it ("We don't say that name"). All these are realistic, human reactions. It was interesting for them to explore that for the beginning of the film with each member of the team choosing a different path.
Almost all of Adam's examples of contrivances or problems with the time travel are easily explained - Nebula didn't just stay, she went to go warn Hawkeye and Black Widow about Thanos knowing then she was captured - Thanos and his team reverse engineered the Pym Particles - Steve didn't stay in the past. He lived his life while in that timeline until a point after meeting them on the bench and went to that time. Remember Steve and Tony went back to the 70s after already being in 2012. Also notice that Steve took 4 vials of Pym Particles instead of the 2 they needed - Steve didn't need to go through 4 timelines back and forth to take back the stones. Just one round trip.

Then they could just not unmask them, or if they do only show one on screen at a time using the same actor. There’s no excuse for having them be CG when their faces are all covered.
@@shrektheogre4349 Even as a prequel defender I have to agree with that. Not a single Clone Trooper armor was made. Not one the most they could have done was make at least a few sets of armor, got Temuera to wear said armor, and then green screen him in by spazzing out on the copy and paste button. It's not the most effective strategy, but it'd be something.
1.) you don’t need to return to the pad. The pad is only a centralized point one can return to. Cap can just jump back after he lived his life. They didn’t need a pad to jump to 1970 from 2012. 2.) nebula stayed so she could warn Hawkeye and Black Widow because Thanos knew about there plans. She wanted to make sure they didn’t get jumped by 2014 Thanos.
I get what Adam is trying to say but I think he's not articulating the main point: if Captain America went back in time to his own timeline and waited to be an old man, history would have been changed on a fundamental level as Captain America would not have been there to play a part in the Infinity War which would not have allowed him to then go back in time to return the stones. HOWEVER, I also feel like Ralph is also not articulating that because Captain America was frozen in the 40s, and it appears that the point where he went back to start his life with Peggy was after he was frozen, there is no paradox because there would then be two versions of himself in the timeline - one that is frozen until 2012 or whatever, and one who lied low and lived his life with Peggy. There are probably some other quirks to the story but they can probably be smoothed out. So basically, either both of them are right, or neither of them are right, or maybe my brain is just melting. Whatever.
@@teddythekingofbears how does it not make any sense? The love of her life has turned evil, and she died of a broken heart. Thats a legit medical thing.
@@MrZackavelli I know, but 1.) Just because someone loses the will to live doesn't mean they're going to die from that and 2.) This kind of thing should have affected her in the long term. Let's say she gave birth to Luke and Leia, and she was still alive and helping Bail and his wife raise Leia in their household. But when Leia is 5 or 6, Padme gets sick from disease, let's say. And the doctors can't save her because her immune system isn't fighting off the disease as it should. Bail then finds out that her depression (from Anakin turning evil, Luke being separated from her and Leia, and Padme believing Anakin to be dead) got the better of her and she eventually died from that. That would have been more believable in my eyes. Depression doesn't kill you overnight. It takes years for it to take its toll on you.
@@teddythekingofbears Losing the will to live doesn't mean you're going to die? Well that statement doesn't make any sense at all. Debbie Fisher died from a broken heart the day after Carrie died. Sure didn't take her years to feel the impact.

Pay more attention before you make big statements like that.
I dont like the Prequels, but I think its not right to call them lazy. For episode 1 specificly, they used a ton of practical models. And even after they used more and more CGI, I think that came from a genuine belief of George that he would somehow revolutionise the industy.
@Tom Ffrench CGI is hard, nowhere near as hard as practical effects. Do you know how long it takes Doug Jones to get into costume as the Fawn from Pans Labyrinth? 8 hours, every time! How long does it take to get into a motion capture suit? Like half an hour at most.
A problem for me (and, granted, I am not really a Marvel fan) was how the theme of "letting go of the past" didn't mesh very well with the plot. I was intrigued and excited at the beginning as the movie set up that theme, presenting the Avengers dealing with failure, and its consequences, for basically the first time. But in the end, all the "letting go" is thrown away as they get back (nearly) everything they lost. The movie seems to suggest that clinging to the past, beyond reason, is the RIGHT thing to do (contrary to what it explicitly sets up at the beginning). Anyway, to me, I couldn't help but feel like most of the choices made had an ulterior motive rather than being guided naturally by the course of the story.
I’m really glad that Alex mentioned that George Lucas can’t direct actors. Hayden is a fine actor, but people always shit on him not understanding that it’s the poor direction.
Pft. George is a great director and Hayden's a great actor. The fact that Hayden's casting in the Kenobi series practically broke the internet shows that George and Hayden clearly did a good job.
About the prequels, I was 14 when I saw, in 1999 in the theater, the "phantom menace". I was hyped as fuck and after it ended, it still is the most disappointing movie ever. I completely lost interest when the "midichlorians" scene came up. Like wtf? They butchered everything mystical about the Force. Didn't bother to watch the other 2 in the theater. I only saw the trilogy one time and I still don't want to watch it again. Unlike the plinkett reviews, which I saw dozens of times 😂
You know, now that I think about it, they probably had Nebula's situation become a mess because the weight of Thanos knowing would actually be the one thing excluding the stones being returned that would mess up a timeline. Also, haven't heard it mentioned at all, but is it not implying that it's all (the entire MCU) from Cap's perspective/timeline when he just sits there so it's not an alternative timeline he's in. This is it. Which I guess kinda makes the argument that all the timelines find a way to win. Still not great/with a bunch of issues, but eh.

Juan Don Nadie maybe he went through Ant-Man’s van time machine, which I’ll just assume was off screen somewhere the whole time.

I saw it a second time and a lot of the issues I had were lessened the second watch. It's a flawed movie and it does feel like a series finale but it's extremely satisfying to watch as a fan of the characters and if you can forgive some of the time travel logic
Also Thor is still a dynamic character in the movie. He is clearly broken and he's been broken for 5 years and is trying to be merry, drunk and forget what he's been through. You can see he's just a shadow of his former self who just wants to do something right (when he wants to probably die by snapping everyone back) after screwing up in infinity war.
Absolutely agree
Adum OWNS Endgame with FACTS and LOGIC
50% of this podcast in a nutshell
@Darth Cameron definitely nitpicks, there is so much more going on in this movie. You can apply his same logic to any movie to ruin it.
@@apuffin9545 yes, a movie blatantly betraying its own rules that it explicitly stated in a smug manor is a nitpick

Dublin Jake no. If we criticize dc to the highest degree we must do the same to marvel. Thors character was shit, plain and simple.

It never tried to be.

well she didn’t save the day. she just was able to hold off thanos snapping for a while. he did power stone punch her out of the fight. but her help did allow tony the time to steal the stones and win it all. captain marvel was used the perfect amount.

*I don't really see the issue with Thor, it's a logical continuation of his character arc: after loosing everything he had a shot to redeem himself by killing Thanos and he failed, of course he went into a depression and somewhat reverted back to his old hedonistic self.*
And it might have been played for laughs a little too much, but never by the characters themselves who all try to somewhat deal with him and support him.
@@Guitarmonade Exactly. I really don't get how so many people seem to miss that, just because it's "hidden" beneath all the situational humor

Thank God you guys are going to be watching Eyes Without a Face. Please, continue to discuss cinematically relevant films !
Almost all of Adam's examples of contrivances or problems with the time travel are easily explained
- Nebula didn't just stay, she went to go warn Hawkeye and Black Widow about Thanos knowing then she was captured
- Thanos and his team reverse engineered the Pym Particles
- Steve didn't stay in the past. He lived his life while in that timeline until a point after meeting them on the bench and went to that time. Remember Steve and Tony went back to the 70s after already being in 2012. Also notice that Steve took 4 vials of Pym Particles instead of the 2 they needed
- Steve didn't need to go through 4 timelines back and forth to take back the stones. Just one round trip.
The opening with thanos at the garden is one of the best scenes in the movie
I wish the first hour of the movie was just a slice-of-life anime with Thanos roleplaying Harvest Moon.

I am a massive Star Wars fan and I absolutely agree with all the criticism for the films. They really are just lore movies.
i think the reason the clones were CGI is because you wouldn't find an army of people with the same height/face
Whatever.
So when Adum watched Episode 3, he was fine medically, but lost the will to live?
I agree that's stupid. I think ROTS is a strong film, but that was a big issue and it didn't make any sense.

I dont like the Prequels, but I think its not right to call them lazy.
For episode 1 specificly, they used a ton of practical models. And even after they used more and more CGI, I think that came from a genuine belief of George that he would somehow revolutionise the industy.
but he kinda of did cause without jar jar you dont get gollum
@@56jklove Also prolly half the characters in Endgame coincidentally.
Sure as hell didnt look like practical models
@Tom Ffrench CGI is hard, nowhere near as hard as practical effects. Do you know how long it takes Doug Jones to get into costume as the Fawn from Pans Labyrinth? 8 hours, every time! How long does it take to get into a motion capture suit? Like half an hour at most.
@Tom Ffrench Sorry, but im calling bullshit, theres no way that effect was so cheap and only costed $10.
Nah it's like he's slightly autistic or something, there's a video of him doing a rugby maneuver to dodge a hug from Ewen McGregor
Pft. George is a great director and Hayden's a great actor. The fact that Hayden's casting in the Kenobi series practically broke the internet shows that George and Hayden clearly did a good job.
They should watched Star Wars the Clone Wars animated show. All the developments of characters and world building are mostly there.
I can't believe I hadn't noticed before how frequently ralph interrupts adum and alex with useless remarks, making them lose their train of thought.
Nell Morales I always felt like when providing reasoning to his reviews, he’s always been ready with solid backing.
I gotta say when adum said he loved infinity war in this episode, I experienced this overwhelming feeling of joy and I don’t know why
