Ive seen a few channels on homemaking/homesteading but i keep coming back to yours BECAUSE you are older! The Bible tells us to respect those older than us, to learn from them. Women are told to build one another up and mentor those younger than them. There are so many young people trying to influence others and the more i watch them the more i realise it's not the same. You need that maturity and life experience to fully encourage and raise up a younger generation. I really appreciate all your content and your model of motherhood

I couldn’t have written this any better, so I second this comment from Dust and Grace! I have been seeking the wisdom from women who are farther in their journey than I am and this channel has been so encouraging!!

The pandemic, the loss of a dear grandparent and a stressful job all jumpstarted my aging process. This was such a timely reminder for me!

Amen! What a timely message and Congrats on your anniversary! 🎉
My hubby and I went through an incredibly difficult season in 2017 - 2020 and when I look back at our pics from 2016 vs 2021 I can see how much it aged us too. He turned 40 on Sunday and I'm 39. I'm watching as his beard turns completely white and my hair turns grey. The makeup routine I've had for years no longer suits me, and I've had to give my teen girls any eyeshadow w the slightest shimmer cuz it settles in the new wrinkles around my eyes. I don't recognize my self anymore and am sorely missing my youth. Thank u so much for this encouragement. It spoke right to me. ❤

Completely feel this. I don’t recognize my face anymore it’s a strange place mentally to be in. When we are noticing such subtle and drastic changes on our faces skin and body.

I love your channel! Your experience and knowledge may win out in the long run. When people search for how to...I believe it can be how the channels comes up in the search. Not your age, although I get what you are saying . Sending hugs.
I just recently found your channel. Example when I searched for more homesteading channels to watch yours didn't come up in my search. One day, I searched for soap making, and your channel popped up.
I really love that you share scripture, too. Love that your home is a work in process . Most of us thats a reality for.
Keep on being you. God bless

Happy Anniversary, you two!!! My hubby & I are heading towards 20 yr anniversary in October & are planning something special. We have a huge party every year where we invite friends/neighbors/family to help us make apple cider with our press. We're going to combine our anniversary with the party & I have my fingers crossed that I can convince my husband to have our priest renew our vows. I hope YOU enjoyed your special day & reflected on how far you have come. As far as getting older - I have felt like an 'old' person for much of my existence due to the way I was raised & how we never seem to fit in with modern culture (& I'm more than ok with that LOL). But I actually can't wait until I get just plain old, old-old. I want to be the weird, ancient old lady puttering around in the tomatoes in a house dress and sitting in my rocker knitting. Ha ha ha. I have a photo of ancestors of mine - 2 tiny, ancient looking Irish sisters & I tell my kids, 'See, that is what I'm going to look like. I can't wait.' I FEEL like I look so much older, but at a solar eclipse party we had on Monday (we were in the path of totality - OH YEAH. It was awesome) I had one woman truly stumped that I could have a 20 year old. I get that alot, so I must not look as old as I think I do?!? And you are totally right about looking back at photos & thinking, "What was I worried about??? I was smokin'" We spend way too much time on looks in this culture. I mean I like to wear a small amount of makeup & hair done with a cute outfit, but I don't make it who I am.... Great projects & this video is just packed!

This was so refreshing! I love that you’re about my age and stage of life and in fact my husband and I celebrate 20 years this year, too! I completely agree with you on ageism. It’s something I notice much more as I’m getting older, but people don’t talk about it. It’s sad how our modern culture is set up to admire or respect the budding youth more than the wise and elderly. Anyways, thank you for talking about it and other real things. You’re a blessing in this space! Happy Anniversary and I wish you many more, beautiful mama!!!

some fun things we've learned in our first year of goat husbandry - molasses water is a great natural electrolyte! and i have actually been using Corid to treat coccidiosis in one of our new goat kidds. so it should be handy for that as well! :)

I feel like I’ve aged so much the last four years. Between Covid, my daddy passed unexpectedly, and all the chaos that is going on in our world and country. Plus just the fact that I’m aging. I’m not old but I’m definitely middle age. 😂 It’s showing. It hurts to see pictures of my younger self. There also is a peace that comes with aging because you start to see things differently. There’s an eternal perspective to see and know that there is more to life than what we see and when we take our last breath it won’t matter what we looked like.

Thank you for sharing your life... but more than that, thank you for your realness, wisdom and encouragement! I'm so motivated by your videos. I've been in my Bible more, as well as feel more competent as a homemaker and homeschooling mom. I'm still working on my homesteading skills, well...homesteading without the homestead, lol!

I'm very postpartum, so I may be hormonally biased, but I'm going through the love/hate relationship with my aging body. I'm trying to come to terms with my body after many children. Your trad wife video and this one where you discuss ageism bring to light a faction in our society that expect women to retain a youthful appearance and demeanor after children, after the ups and downs of life. My body has carried 14 children; thats going to be visible in my figure, my wrinkles, my stretchmarked belly, and graying hair. I'm trying to embrace and own that. Easier said than done, but working through it. I find that when I feel well, my appearance reflects that. I guess that may be the point... work on feeling healthy.

About the chicken dust bath, (Iam new to chickens). What about when it rains? does not the dust bath area just become a muddy mess? And wood ash mixed with water becomes caustic. that is actually how lye was made to make soap in the old days. Maybe the small amount of ash mixed with the dirt dilutes it enough that it does not cause any problems? I know too much lye in soap can be really irritating. My momma said about the homemade lye soap that she grew up using, that it could take your skin off. LOL

    • @mountainhomesteadfamily
      @mountainhomesteadfamily  21 день тому

Hello! They do not get in it when it's mud. They don't like mud baths or find them useful, they like dust baths, hence the term. ☺. No, it does not irritate them, in fact it improves their feathers health. And yes, it is diluted since it's 95% dirt.

    • @BelindaTN

      @@mountainhomesteadfamily Good.
I know a lot of chicken people
Do use wood ash in the dust bath. Apparently that works great for parasites too. I just want to find a dry place for dust bathing. But until I can convince my husband to move the coop near a shelter or build one, that ain’t happening. Lol the wild turkeys around here dust bathes under the shed of his new storage barn when the ground is wet from rain. So maybe he will get the idea. Lol
