If you want to show the corruption even more, maybe try adding some trees and bushes that over time become more decayed and withered. I think that also having buildings become abandoned (no npcs) and destructed would also be a really nice way to have the corruption impact the player. New things could also come about with the corruption (late game stuff) to balance out the loss of the old npcs
I really like the idea of the time stop. I also immediately got reminded of ULTRAKILL when you mentioned it, which is an extremely dramatized version of time/hitstops. With shorter ones for smaller ammounts of damage and much longer ones or longer chains of them for even bigger damage. They especially add some good juice to that game as it compliments to cool combos you can do.
Idea for the birds: Make the birds look more monstrous and slimy the more the corruption spreads. They may not be seen as much but it could add some great effect and make the player’s situation look more dire.
The game has improved so much! I think the biggest problem I have with it is that none of the things in a room feel like they’re actually there, it just kinda feels like they’re hovering. Something I think would really really help is if you added shadows to everything, it would be a lot of work but it would definetely help make everything feel more real!
True, and i want to add the idea of a slime left on the floor where slimes move that fades away after a little so it doesnt become too much. Or a few slime splatters on the floor when you hit a slime that also fade away after a little, or some splatters on the walls nearby. Makes the enemies interact with their surrounding, that would help that feeling that you mentioned! :)
The birds seem to fly under the walls wich in my opinion breaks the imersion. the same as the pet slime sliding under the doors, wich maybe could be solved by some teleportation mechanic like the minecraft dogs.
One small thing you could add is random sizes for the birds. That way they’re not all the same size and feel more natural. You could probably do the same for how fast the animations play or how fast they fly
Make it so the screen changes when you are low on HP. Pretty much every game has it and it is really necesarry to remind and warn the player that he is close to dying. Keep up the good work.
I've never tried pausing the game when you hit an enemy, now I really want to try it! but I will say pausing when the player gets hurt can be super effective. And it kind of goes back a long way, like all the way to the classic Mario, when you're big and get hit the game pauses while you shrink. Just an idea though, great video :)
I think a nice subtle addition to the birds would that once you trigger one, others nearby would fly away with it. If you startle one bird in a group more birds usually move away from the “danger” too.
I agree, it reminds me of the slimes from stardew valley; if you use a slime incubator in the main town, the hatched slimes will talk to the villagers with little phrases such as "hey, how's it going?"
I had an idea for how to make the randomized decorations in each room even better! Instead of manually placing them while making the room, add some kind of system that automatically places them randomly. This would make it easier if you ever made another room, and could make rooms more intresting, because right now, if you get the same room multiple times, you can easily see that the decorations are placed in the same spot each time. This new system could fix that!
Idea: Unique but rare upgrades dropped from bosses Two examples would be: Drones - when applied, two drones will surround the player and shoot any slime in their range. Dropped from the Mech Boss and Speakers - when applied, a speaker will surround the player and boom burst slimes in its range. It also does Area Of Effect damage. Dropped from the DJ Boss
dang, cant believe its been a month already, im kinda of sick of giving devtips so im just gonna start giving ideas based on the video for now on. Ideas for polish: Please and i mean, PLEASE make a roll animation for the dash, it feels so incomplete with out one. I dont remember if you have done this already, but when a slime moves a little squish noise should happen and when the player moves, footsteps should be there. Add a cat, no reason just every game needs you to be able to pet the cat. Hit sound effect, I dont believe there is one and thats vital. Make the damage numbers pop out more, it helps with the feeling of power. A Percentage telling you how much of the game you've seen would be nice. And finally and ive recommended this before, allow the player to play any arcade machines in the house after playing them in the main game. All of this just adds a nice bit of polish too what seems to be a great game so far :)
this game is awesome, the only thing i can see, is that it looks a bit noisy (propably because of the green palette) getting rid of some of the foliage on the floor could help.
8:57 the slimes that disapear for a second are now visible, it makes reading the enemy easier but i also wouldn't mind if it makes it to the full game (if you're ever adding a hard mode it could fit there perfectlt)
Idea: instead of the slime pet having text when something happens. It could have some sounds not like talking but like burbling or whatever. Becuase text can make the player distracted. Its always good to use less text.
Oh my god - manual animation overriding. Makes me shiver. I'd have definitely just done it programmatically at that point. In fact i avoid using the unity animator at all costs. I don't envy you.
Add draggable="false" to your img tag in the HTML part of your website () to prevent users from being able to drag and drop images from your website to a new tab.
i know that asset for Dungeon Generation u use, and Fog with it, and i use it too, and default lights works with that perfectly, maybe you just didn't understand something correct? Moreover u use only glow instead of full lighting, shadows and etc, u could just draw one gradient circle and add it to every object aswell. and moreover of that moreover light is almost not noticible, if compare 2 screens, its hard to tell what changed same with squish, you added it, but its almost not noticible also you should fix gaps between tiles, its easy - just create Sprite Atlas with all textures
When the birds fly under the fow it looks kind of wierd, if you made the fow a little translucent near the birds it would look good, other than that this is insane!
I think you should do a setting so the player can choose if he wants the little time freeze or not. Because when you will release the game, speedrunners could save some milliseconds (yeah i know it's not much but still) or make a special 'speedrunner' toggle to change this kind of things.
Maybe you want to have blur on the edges outside of the level So when the birds fly out they don't cut through 2 green places but rather fly into a "real" fog eg: 10:06
The bird should not spawn where the enemies can spawn Perpahs and building top or on the wall would be better. Also they seems a bit large compare to the different slim
Ive seen several your videos and I have something to say. I think the game is too 'green', my eyes get tired and it can be a real problem during playing. I really recommend to add some more colors, maybe blue and yellow shades or just make this green softer. Good luck!
I know you saw it, but my ADHD wont stop bugging me until I point it out: the fog of war effect covers the birds when they fly away so it looks like they just disappear once they leave the boundaries of the room
the lights are hardly visible at this point, had to go back in the video and really look for them and even then it was hard, might just be the video compression though
The game levels look messy with all of these objects, you should try adding different rooms, for example using different tiles for rooms to make it seem different, also maybe adding darker areas and not only brighter, because right now it's a bit static
Some of the adjustments feel pretty good. However, I think you may be adding too much now. There is so much going on the screen at any time it's actually hard to follow especially due to the limited color scheme. For instance, when shooting the bullets have the same style and transparency as the enemies, the buildings etc. When you hit someone you gonna see a lot of things going on: bullets, damage indicators, collectable coins flying towards the player, your pal, etc. I think the game might need a little adjusting and tweaking now to consider all the new changes. I would stick with a distinct and clear color for effects, enemies, player, pal, buildings etc. Otherwise I imagine the players to get eye fatigue pretty quickly.
If you want to show the corruption even more, maybe try adding some trees and bushes that over time become more decayed and withered. I think that also having buildings become abandoned (no npcs) and destructed would also be a really nice way to have the corruption impact the player. New things could also come about with the corruption (late game stuff) to balance out the loss of the old npcs
or change the NPC dialogue, with them getting more depressed…

Been here since the first devlog crazy to see the improvement every vid
That’s awesome, thanks dude
brooo same
I think you should be able to choose which skin your pet is wearing because some might like the classic look or the other ones as well
Yeah that’s actually a good idea, I’ll add that to my list, thanks
gotta love the - "whats up guys, its benbonk"

I think a nice subtle addition to the birds would that once you trigger one, others nearby would fly away with it. If you startle one bird in a group more birds usually move away from the “danger” too.
yo the dialouge makes the pet so much cuter lol it really adds a lot :D
I agree, it reminds me of the slimes from stardew valley; if you use a slime incubator in the main town, the hatched slimes will talk to the villagers with little phrases such as "hey, how's it going?"
Thanks so much!
Maybe you could add an upgrade to the slime pet that makes enemies get distracted by its cuteness. 😂
adding game juice seems like a neverending task. good luck on it man! fingers crossed for the release!
Really great progress and the polish add some much to the quality of the game. Congrats on getting this gem so far! :)

reply to boost chances of mr bonk seeing seeing this
I was really hoping the "juice" would be more animations or better animations for the main character. That's what I wanna see.
Those are some cool ideas, hopefully he at least adds a few.
Yo, thanks for all the ideas. I’ll def try to work on some at some point
Can you please make the pet jump over the wall that blocks off the doorway? It looks really weird when he just flies through it.
The Birds Should Be Rendered Until They Are Out of view if this is possible because it looks a bit weird at the moment
The game looks so beautiful. Congrats
Can you share a read-only link to your trello board? I am researching game feel as well, will help me a lot!
Love the video! You should add a skin select section for the pet slime for the new skins if you get all of the tier 3 upgrades.
I reckon you should make the rays of light on the puddles move with the camera
You should add a shadow to the entities. I feel like that would be one of the biggest pieces of polish you could add right now.
Adding a teaspoon of juice to my water always makes it taste better
Dude... Eww...

The og game jam slimekeep should be an arcade machine, wether it be next to the other one, or have random chance to pick between the 2.
You should add a break room full of vegetation and birds, it would add a lot to the game's feel
Idea: instead of the slime pet having text when something happens. It could have some sounds not like talking but like burbling or whatever. Becuase text can make the player distracted. Its always good to use less text.
This reminds me of Slime-San - one of my early Switch games!
Great improvements! Those light changes are very hard to see. Is that just the video or does it feel like the in game too?
Maybe, when the corruption gets worse, the world gets darker, with a few objects that glow
It looks weird when slime pet slides below the gates. You should do something about that
Oh my god - manual animation overriding. Makes me shiver. I'd have definitely just done it programmatically at that point. In fact i avoid using the unity animator at all costs. I don't envy you.

good video hope you can finish slimekeep soon
Thanks! Me too
Glasses skin reminds of me of jeff from earthbound :D
You really don't want to give up 🤣
The birds need to uave dialogue that teaches dashing.
The wallks look a bit plain, maybe add some trees and other objects out of bounds so the boundaries don't look bland
i wishlisted the moment i knew the steam page was up. i expected way more people to have wishlisted until you said only 12 people had done so
i know that asset for Dungeon Generation u use, and Fog with it, and i use it too, and default lights works with that perfectly, maybe you just didn't understand something correct?

Your favorite game engine
you should make it so the time freeze effect also happens when you get hit
Lots of lovely juice, BONK!

Ah, didn’t even think about that, good idea
@@BenBonk Glad i helped :)
Looking good!
Add personality types for slime pets that get chosen randomly. Totally overkill but...
You should add footsteps and slime trails
It would be cool if you could suck up the slime pet and shoot it at enemies for extra damage

actually true
@@SundercoreDevoh wow
@@SundercoreDevyo your game looks sick! And thanks guys, I try my best to be consistent lol
@@BenBonk yoo dude, thanks
You should add a dark mode, the walls are a bit bright.
Maybe you could also add a respec option to the skill tree
Maybe you want to have blur on the edges outside of the level
So when the birds fly out they don't cut through 2 green places but rather fly into a "real" fog
eg: 10:06
All this green makes my eyes (x,X)

suggestion: make the birds fade away, instead of just cutting off
I never thought I would have to write this, but making the pet talk is not a good idea. It's a pet.
new slimelogggggg :D
Tbh instead of dialogue I think it would be more fitting for like unique chirps, idk I just personally don’t see appeal in the pet talking
Yess
DEVLOG
looking nice! 👍

At a lot of green I think it would be better if you added more colour
Eg red when you get hit

The slime pet is more of a slime pal now
Let’s goooo
U should add a day and night time system
You should be able to shoot the birds for absolutely no reason
i think it would be a good idea to have an option to disable screenshake if you don't have one already. it can be really annoying for some people
Birds should always fly away from the player, instead of going in a random direction when spooked, in my opinion.
Will you release a mac version?
Quick question is the game close to being done?
you should make a slime pet plushie
Hey, could you potentially make this game controller friendly?
can the birds fade away
How to change the skins?
How much will the game cost
Why does your code at 2:17 say gungeon?
