I must say I like these "buying guide" vids better than most of the extras, which for me are often a bit long for the quality of the content. So hey more of these! Thanks.
Craigallachie 13yo really interesting, worth of attention, whisky. I'm wondering how much different/better is the Armagnac version, but the "basic" one is really good aswell. I've bought one almost exactly year ago. And it is the only whisky in my life that I liked most straight after opening the bottle. Then it became more spicy. And I had wee dram literally yesterday, I have strong impression that it's becoming more calm again. Really good, intensive and signature taste.
Thanks for the info, Ralfy! I've had the chance to enjoy the Craigellachie 13yo standard and it is very, very good. Very affordable and when you let it settle for awhile, it really comes out!
Hey Ralfy, looking forward to the Mortlach Review. Signatory says at the label: no added color and non chill-filtered. Its stated in black below the age statement
I am also very much looking forward to this Mortlach to be reviewed and when the Craigellachie was reviewed so soon after this I was hopeful it would be next but sadly it feels like Ralfy has forgotten about it ( the AncNoc 24 has been reviewed more than once already)
Good choices. Thanks. And esp nice NOT to mix as they are excellent as is and need not be COVERED up with other flavours or chilled with ice to dull their vitality. Best from Canada
Excellent recommendations! I bought the Craigalachie Armagnac a couple of months ago. Haven't tried it yet. Standard one is a staple in my stack. At 39 EUR special offers.
I got on very well indeed with the standard 13 year old expression of Craigellachie and am a fan of the 12 year old Ancnoc. Would love the chance at getting my hands on these bottlings as well someday. Many more malt memories to be made in 2024!
Thank you as always. I just noticed I have a compass box enlightenment blend in my stock and not too much left, but oh what a great whisky! Everything from compass box 👍
Hi Ralf, great selection (I guess)! I had my first whisky 10 years ago and I really like to see something different from the usual "best of" smoke and/or sherry. One of my favorite whiskies is a malty Ben Nevis with little sherry I got with my first ever order of bottles. I did not like back then. It was not for beginners, but now I am thankful I bought it.
Very good recommendations, I really like Craigellachie, wonderful Whisky, just bought the 17 years old one. I thought that I’m done with buying new Whisky for a while, but your presentation have changed my mind. I will buy the AnCnoc as a Christmas gift for myself.
I find it deeply frustrating that Dewars can output Craigellacie, aultmore and royal brackla at 46% unchill filtered, but dont do the same for Aberfeldy which has some great output but feels held back by not releasing higher strength non chill filtered whisky
I’m off and stuck on a military base for a while, and decided to give the Craigellachie 13 a try a month ago. Quite pleased with it, especially for the price. Nice I was ahead of one of one of your recommendations for once!
Give an honorable mention to Bladnoch 11 if you didn't! (didn't have time to watch yet, busy day!) 2022 annual bottling is very good and available again. This is probably not news to anyone but me, but my nearby package liquor store didn't seem to think it was possible to come by anymore and then suddenly, it was.
Ahhhhh damn it, lol... Seeing Ralfy recommend not just my favourite go-to dram, Mortlach, but also one of my favourite IB's is really a bittersweet feeling - I'm glad to see it get the recognition it so richly deserves, but I'm selfishly thinking about how this might affect availability 😂. Mortlach has something like 3-4 million litres capacity, but the lion's share goes into Johnnie Blue. The distillery doesnt produce much under their own label (that appears to be changing somewhat, although a bit of a mixed bag because it's now unfortunately Diageo), so IB's have for years usually been easier to get ahold of than actual distillery releases. The discontinued 16yo Flora & Fauna that Mortlach used to produce is absolutely divine. A decade or so back, my local whisky shop gave me a heads up about the Diageo sale & plans to axe the F&F, so I bought an entire case - been savouring them slowly over the years, and luckily I've still got a few bottles stashed away, but I'll be very sad indeed on the day the last drop is gone. One of the great all-time Speyside drams.
Speyside and Eastern Highlands distilleries are so underrated these days. Three excellent choices right there and I'm sure you could have come up with a dozen more from the same area.
For some reason I am not seeing this video on your Patreon channel! My problem with new bottles at the moment is that I have been going through my stash and have probably too many as it is. I think that I will have to send a bunch off to SWA so I can follow my taste buds. If you haven't already, could you cover "stash maintenance" in one of your extras?
I loved that Armagnac finished its delicious, complex lots of flavor. Anyone should try it.AnCnoc 24 It is a special bottle that went up in the US. It's about $250 plus minus but damn is good. Always good. Anytime is good. It's just so good. And it is hard to find any whiskey for that price range That is so damn good. I got my backup bottle for $199 and I'm very very happy
It's better than the standard 13, in my opinion. But, not as exciting as a good independent bottling of Craigellachie, which are pretty readily available.
Thank you for validating my relatively young pallet! I don't live in the area nor to be honest do I watch as many of your video as I once did due to RL, but as I currently reside in India have you tried anything from here and I am quite curious of your thoughts of when you get a chance. On a lesser note as Japanese Whisky as well though those are far more well known.
The further I get into malts and the more the years pass, the more I like heavier and more complex malts. I used to prefer light and fruity malts, not I honestly am not so interested unless they’re well well aged.
Ahh Ralfy ya bugger! I asked for/bought Ledaig Sinclair & Maclean’s Nose from the last one. Liking the Ledaig the Maclean's is put away for Xmas. Nice prices too. Why on earth have you got a Bell's bottle in shot?
@anton7288 Bells is an iconic Bottle, maybe not for drinkig these days ,but it was a whisky you seen everywhere in Glasgow,I even have a few just as ornaments, even the decanters, and a big five litre Bells Bottle for my spare change. Its icoic in the whisky world although the whiskies pretty poor,it's more for sentimental reasons with me,as it's one I always remember seeing growing up as it was everywhere.I was born in the late 70s by the way,so I'm only 46.
@@barryhamilton7845 That’s true and Ralfy has mentioned it many times. Though there is a particular reason for it to be on the shelf. It has some relation to the jar with the brown liquid next to it 😄
Could you get better shots of the labels and bottles in your reviews. The camera is usually so far away and we'd like to see a close up of the labels and bottles. Thanks
Just totally off topic.......would you be willing to review Torabhaig Allt Gleann The Legacy Series sometime? I'm drinking this it now and what a damn good dram it is.
Ralfy, headed to Scotland with wife and grown children in May. No idea what we're doing (and I mean that in the self deprecation sense). Any suggestions on must do's? Wife could care less about distilleries. I think the kids are game with distilleries and pubs. Glasgow, Bon Accord and Good Spirits Co, if it works out. I might be driving a car (and yes, I don't want to be the yank who kills a local because they're driving on the wrong side of the road so I will take that seriously), so there may be flexibility in what we can do. Unfortunately, I'll never see the any of the whiskys above (or if I do it will be in 8 mos), but I might have a line on old AnCnoc 16 at old prices, fingers crossed. I did find a bottle of Tobermory at old prices 2 weeks ago so I'm feelin lucky. Any input, however rudimentary, is appreciated. Cheers.

This bloke is a world class hypocrite. He rants and raves about the ‘marketing guff’ that’s put on labels and yet here he is praising the label on the Craigellachie 13 that is blatantly contrived and full of the type of stuff he normally despises. Ralfy you’re full of it.

Love that An Cnoc 24. Exquisite.
I absolutely love the Craigellachie 13 Bas-Armagnac. Thanks for all the great content, Ralfy. Happy Holidays!
I really enjoy the rustic nature of the Bas-Armagnac Craigellachie. Very spicy, fruity, meaty, and dense in a complex and engaing way.
The Craigellachie and AnCnoc 24 are beauties. Love a good IB Mortlach. Great video, as always. 🥃

Hi Ralfy, been away, I think We have had the Craigelachie 13 year old, and Yep, it was very smooth, lovely. Yum.

I found an independent bottling of a 14 year old Craigellachie and it’s been really good
I love Craigellachie IB's, and my favorite is a cask strength 19 year old.
@@theswag5997 I bet that is incredible.
An knoc whilst listening to the New Worlrd symphony by Dvora. Delivery in spades.
I was a bit skeptical of the Bas Armagnac, will look out for your review to see if it's worth a bit more than the standard 13 for Craigellachie.
It's better than the standard 13, in my opinion. But, not as exciting as a good independent bottling of Craigellachie, which are pretty readily available.

I love mortlach, but it's sporadic when I get hold of it. Have you tried the wormtub 10 cask strength? MoM had that with £10 off today
