That's kind of true but also false. There is many cool place in China for Techno and particulary in Chengdu. But yeah it's still a small scene like everywhere in Asia even if it's defenetely growthing more. What's ironical is that the type of music that they are playing are considering now commercial in most of the techno scene lol
@@self.destructr illegal after hours/warehouse parties do still exist here in Detroit, just not as often at all. you'll get one probably once every 2 months but THOUSANDS SHOW UP
All sounds like a carbon copy of UK underground free party scene of 30-40 years ago. Best of luck to them. The government cracked down on that here, just like I’m sure they will in China too,
It’s not a debate. It’s widely acknowledged that Juan Atkins, Kevin Saunderson and Derrick May started techno in Detroit in the early 80s. Yes Germany (and elsewhere) had electronic music in the 70s but it wasn’t the same thing.
@@test-pattern Widely acknowledged doesn't mean rightfully accredited. Germany had been producing electronic dance music since 1960 & has been popular in Germany since 1970 with kraftwerk producing the first recognisable techno track in 1970.

AP it's so funny how you portrait the chinese gov as super repressive but u can have raves undeclared in the streets. So awkward how you try to spin everything.
I went to a rave like this in Beijing, plenty of drugs. Just theyre super careful. also China produces tons of Xtc that they sell to thailand and other places
imagine what it might mean for labels if this movement grows and a small fraction of the chinese population discovers their love for electronic music on vinyl....
Every video on China these days always gotta say something negative about the government lol.. Oh no, they're raving outside! Seems like none of the interviewees even spoke about any repression, and it looks like they've got some nice venues - more power to these people pioneering electronic music out there
To all those who say China is super power ! LOL.... . people cant listen to music freely even ! hahaha physical gyms were banned until 1968 or something too HAHA... just like in Soviet Union karate and rocka nd roll were banned until 1989 rofl... pathethic system.
Power to the people! Keep that underground alive and protected!
the devil applauds you
At all costs
"Underground will live forever baby.
We're just like roaches, never dying, always living"
I like the Peace Division remix of that track a lot.
And on that note…..let’s get back to the program 👊
This is dope, culture blossoms
I remember the underground house scene in Europe back in the 90s. Awesome times.
u mean basement?
It’s still alive
@jonsage5486 the scene has changed a lot, and so did I.
@@Karaon It's a genre of music not an actual house lol

Absolutely!! Dancing is so powerful

I am happy for the chinese students
Ecstasy and electronic music, a match made in heaven. Once a society gets a little money and time they find it.

The Underground will never die!
We sometimes take for granted even things we never thought of like underground techno raves. Hope this keeps up!
wow. this is beautiful... hoping the best for China - artists make the real transformations, not political leaders!
At this point, music is all we have.
Long live the underground and ppl that keeping it alive!!!
I live in China and I've played in Shanghai, Shenzhen, Hangzhou, Xiamen, Wuhan, Changsha, Jingdezhen...even during Covid times ;)
This is the way.
yooooo. that is so nice to see and hear. hope we can rave together worldwide someday.
Leicester Square outside Burger King used to be the place too meet up and wait for runners to turn up with details n locations for the Squat parties
the underground scene has done so much for me. love to see it evolve around the world
Keep raving .. this kept my generation sane in the 90s/00s .. hope commercialism will not eat this too soon
Rave never dies 😎
Thank you for this coverage
So sweet, they are in 80s now
If they are in the 80s then the western world is in the medieval period 😂 China is years ahead of any country that you thought is well developed

They're keeping the spirit alive. Westerners are falling behind on the rave scene, it seems.
Did it since the 90s, grew out of the rebellion mode
Not really, in the West it's morphed into mainstream electronic music festivals

Since when has Detroit been "the birthplace of techno"? Many Berliners would argue that point.

I think there’s a tinge of narrative control here - none of the interviewees mentioned the government cracking down on them
there is a big difference between "underground rave" and edm festivals, different intention & philosophy behind it
How long before the clamp down ? I was lucky to be 16 in the late 80s at the birth of rave in UK
How come they're so secretive, yet a dude who organizes them & reviews corporate contracts by day (very public job) appears on public video? 😊
I wondered the same thing, surely he'll be followed now?
I don't think there's that strong of a persecution. As long as they keep the event location a secret (which always changes), they should be fine.
