Ik werd gevraagd om samen met Rudy weer klassieke muziek te maken. Rudy liet mij zijn huis(kamer) zien, waar heel prominent zijn piano stond. Hij begreep niet helemaal meteen wat de bedoeling was met zoveel mensen in zijn woonkamer. ‘Moet ik optreden? Maar dan moet ik wel mijn pak aan’ zei hij.
‘Nou Rudy, ik zou graag samen met jou willen optreden. Lijkt je dat leuk? En dat doen we dan gewoon zoals wij ons willen kleden, als onszelf’.
En wat een prachtig concert hebben wij gegeven. Voor de verzorgende en medebewoners die het op de gang ook hebben gehoord.
Ik had kippenvel, zij ook.
Dank dat je jouw prachtige stem weer liet horen Rudy. Op naar het volgende concert ♥️🧡

My daughter was doing rotation thru nursing home to be a nurse passing out meds to barely verbal dementia patients. She was so nervous and they were lined up in rocking chairs. She began to sing songs from WW2 her godmother taught her! They all began to join her and the admins were so impressed!! That was almost 20yrs qgo!! She stillvdoes it with dementia patients!! God is Good!@
I understand the sentiment, but nowadays none of the elderly lived during the war. Most of us would rather sing the songs of our youth, 60's & 70's songs

Everyday I'd go with my Dad's Friend to see his Wife at a facility. She would think I was a boy she went to school with. We would talk a hour or so. She would thank him for bringing me.
His memories are locked in there somewhere in the deep recesses of his beautiful mind! God bless him!❤

Yes they are there. My husband just passed away from combined dementia and lymphoma. The last song I played for him was Imagine by John Lennon. I know he heard the music

So moving, just loved this. I loved ♥️♥️🙏🙏🇺🇸🇺🇸the elderly since I was very young. Now it’s I who am elderly. Watching them sing made me want to volunteer at my local nursing home. I’m 74, and take care of my grandchildren. But if I could I would. This was a blessing to watch before going to bed tonight. August 6-2024. I needed to end this day this very way. God bless these two beautiful people. Best wishes
Blessings to you! Yes, this so moving to watch. For several years I served on a Board of Directors for a retirement community. One thing the residents looked forward to was visits from children. If your grands are out of diapers perhaps it would be enjoyable for them to visit. Heck, even if they are in diapers, the folks will love the energy the children bring 😊

When my Mom got deep into Alzheimers I bought her a small boom box and several CDs of singers from the 40s, her young adulthood. The songs were some of the few things she still recognized and settled her when she got confused and anxious.
The body may fold, shrink, succumb and age ...

I was crying like a baby listening to this man recollect music from his past. I realize this is a hymn, but there are other videos of people singing along to secular songs with her, as well. I believe music is the key to unlocking the mind; this kind of backs me up. God bless him; may they continue to sing!

What a beautiful voice this gentleman has & for a few minutes in his mind he was the person he used to be. I used to take my mother to a singing group until she gradually became silent with her dementia. Let's hope this gentleman can keep on singing.
Sadly this guy has passed away (It was told by that Woman who sings with the man, in a Dutch tv show ''De Oranje Zondag''!
3 years working in a nursing home, during the week hardly a word spoken, but Sunday singing old hymns about 99% of them were singing every word.❤

Yo me acercaba a su cama y le contaba cómo era la ropa que vestía, le hablaba de los colores, la hacía tocar la tela, el largo de la pollera, el tipo de costura, la forma de los puños y el cuello. Ella me decía: eso se usó en los años 20 o 30 por ejemplo;también observaba la calidad de las telas. Sonreía, era feliz recordando lo que tanto amó hacer en su juventud.

The power of music to a poor soul with dementia is truly amazing. Working in healthcare for decades, I've witnessed this numerous times. I told my grandson if (or God help me - when) my mind starts to fail to tell Alexa to play: hits from the 60's, 70's, 80's and music for the soul by Enya. I pray he'll remember this for me.
My mom had dementia and we would put on her favorite song "At Last" by Etta James. She knew most of the lyrics, until one day we put that song on and she had no reaction at all and just sat there quietly, staring. She died a month later. 🥺😢

My Mum has dementia, and it is hard to converse with her so when I visit I put on her favourite songs. Last visit I thought she was asleep but I had put on Jim Reeves singing (ironically) "Memories Are Made of This". Mum did not open her eyes, but sang along to the entire song word perfect ❤.

This brought tears to my eyes - Panis Angelicus, it was actually sung by the priest just prior to giving my daughter and her husband Holy Communion at their wedding . 35 years years later they have 3 beautiful children and 3 grandchildren. No not in Italy or France this was in Jamaica.

This reminds me of my dad so much, I cared alone for him for 3 years as he suffered from Kidney failure, he refused all treatment as he wanted to join my late mother. It was tough years but I did my best for him and was there holding his hand at his last breath as mum took him away with him.
