1920's Zoegling Primary Glider

Here is a very old original Zoegling Primary 10 Meter Glider seeing the light of day after 50 years. Believed to be built on Long Island, NY USA in the late 1920s or early 1930s. It is in excellent condition for it's age. Who's next to fly!

Wow, that is in great shape for an original… though to be airworthy l, it will take an extraordinary resto. This has to be a near one of a kind find.

it is not in good condition for it's age, and get it out of the rain! but it looks like it's repairable. that belongs either in flight or in a museum.

I'd strip the old fabric, inspect and repair the damaged areas and recover the bird, add some restraints and find a steep hill and have fun! nice find, I wish I could find something as nice. lol

In the 1930s, if the pupil's first flight was solo, and if he had never been up with an instructor, then how could they be sure he wouldn't stall or spin? I know the very low wing loading must be part of the answer, but even so..?

Because for the most part the primaries were used for short hops from a hill or field until the pupil got the hang of it. The instructor would tell him how to fly the primary, how to keep it straight and level and where to land given the wind conditions. Later on, the pupil would pass on to more advanced gliders in which start to master the soaring aspects, like the Grunau Baby, etc.
