Fantastic video - thank you for uploading. In 1965 I´ve had the chance to fly the SG-38 by myself in Aspern/Vienna. I´ll never forget. Something very special. The glide angle is, comparing with todays gliders, a real disaster, but it was, and still is, a fantastic airplane.
Hi Sanderson, we have an altimeter and an airspeed indicator installed in an old black painted lunch box. You can see it at sec 28 in the movie. You can also judge the speed by the sound of the wires. When you hear nothing, you're too slow. Cheerio!
I flew the RAF version, the Grasshopper when it was issued to the Combined Cadet Force. It had stops to limit the elevator(at the base of the stick) to stop one getting too high a nose attitude and stalling the plane.Trouble is, it limited your back stick when trying to cushion the landing! Many Grasshoppers ended up breaking their 'A' frame when landing due to high ROD which pilot had been unable to reduce. Flew it at school playing fields, launched by the long bungee was character building!
Hi Antonio, we have done it by winch launch. I don't know if there are plans to buy, this Schulgleiter ist from 1939. The dog is a mix, no specific breed. Blue Skies!
Beautiful glider. So efficiently and wonderfully designed. I'm surprised that the pilot actually sits in front of the main wings. I guess the weight balance allows for it.
Thanks for watching. We try to fly in thermal conditions, as the glide ratio is about 1:9 and the glider produces much drag, its quite hard to stay up in the sky. But its plenty much of fun! Blue skies
Vielen Dank!
Bob Newton This video for me was a nostalgia trip. I spent a weeks vacation at a Bristol (England) Gliding club about 1952 and made my first flights in what was a British build copy of this glider. The smell of fresh cut grass always brings back memories. A few years later i finally figure out how to thermal in A Grunua. I don't know if that one was German made or a British copy. The Gliding world owed a lot to those prewar Germans
Great video, I enjoyed watching it. It must be a special feeling when you fly that glider. It reminds me on romantic beginnings of aeronautics :) Do you fly it in thermal conditions? I would be scared to death on it when thermals starts to rip.
I have seen the plane launched with people running and towed by another plane... how is it done in this video? are there plans available to buy? what breed is the dog? Please, if you can answer to at least one question...
Do you know the total weight, stall speed, and VNE of your SG 38? My dad has a cabinet shop, I want to build a semi historically accurate Schulgleiter with accurate WW2 markings with two small pulse jet engines on it (off to the side on extensions). Enough power to get it airborne on its own and keep it flying. That would turn heads. I'd tell people I found it in my granddaddy's barn and dusted it off ;-) Everybody in the local flying club has $50,000 fully acro sport planes... but such a crazy little plane would put me firmly in the bad ass WTF she's got bigger balls than me category. Esp. when it spouts fire on startup and kicks in with that brrrrrapppp noise. ua-cam.com/video/WTyDuJ22-Hk/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/cEOZsA0sI34/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/sd-2RGM0SG8/v-deo.html
Vintage plane, cool take off, cute dog, VW van... What more can you ask from a youtube video ? Well done guys

That would be a blast! Lots of short flights on a nice day - what could be better!
Those Magnificent Men in there Flying Machines, comes to mind.
So great!! Thanks for sharing🍻
Beautiful dog, nice glider ... congratulations from Brazil. =)
Thanks for sharing! Simple inexpensive gliding like this should be more available to more pilot to get the sensation of REAL flying!
Fuselage appears to be half a tree trunk?...no wonder the sink - rate rivals a concrete block... :-O (love it...it's REAL flying!)

Nice flying, brilliant music

Excellent video. Well done.

Very nice gliding.. I love that wood look.
Great video!
Amazing...
Blue Skies!
Lol that dog is cute!
Awesome! Looks a lot like some ultralights but way cool!

Gracias por todo. Hapy New Year

Soo, Whats the tube up front for....To scare the Deer away ???!!!!!
Its a pitot tube for the altimeter and speedometer
@@Wolkenstecher ..Ooohh, okay..Looks like that thing you put on your car bumper to keep deer from running in front of your car.....
WOW.👍👍👍
Thanks 😁
75 years ago I learned to fly in this glider.

hi guys...fantastic.....I want to fly it too! What are the requirements?
Amazing. What is the name of this song and band performing it?
Tam lin The Glasgow réel.
aggressive final turn, no?
@MrVictorHugo @thewhitemask
I think the song is Tam Lin - Peter Miln
Are plans available?
12 dislikes???...good god there are some sad people out there...great clip guys!!
Can't fly longer ?
People aren't allowed to have opinions?
They probably wanted to see blood..
It's a glider, not a sail plane!
she is called Mona and the dog of the winchdriver
Auch liebevoll "Schädelspalter" genannt
Do you know maybe what is the sink rate? Thanks
nice glider
It sinks like a stone, best sink rate is approx 2m/s at 50 km/h, and it is raw flying at its best!
einfach supper!
¿Tu has echo los planos?Me gustaría construirme uno aquí en Andalucia. ¿Pasas los planos?
DANKE. Me gusta tu planeador amigo.
ACE!
I have seen the plane launched with people running and towed by another plane... how is it done in this video? are there plans available to buy? what breed is the dog? Please, if you can answer to at least one question...
as someone said below, sehr cooles
this might be a dumb question but how do you judge your airspeed so that you don't stall?
I guess thermalling is not really an option with this?
how fuckin cute is that dog !!
Where are plans available for the SG-38?
excelente muy bueno
Idea... Immelman?
First pilot looks like Herman Goering.
The wing is covered with ceconite

Was ist the name of the song?
Anyone know what the music is?
From the description of the video:
Song: Tam Lin/ Fairy Dance
Artist: Peter Miln & Daniel James
Album: Celtic Dance
BTW - really nice piece.
isn't it dangerous?
+Mehmet Baki sure it is, if you can't fly
The Flying Gasmask is there anyone who died doing this?
Mehmet Baki probably yea, people die when driving like idiots, but you still use cars right?
Woooooow.im from algeria now i really know im not in life.you are lucky friends.well done.plz can i try it?
Plzzzzzzzzz i m not human
Hi WrogerWroger,
