    We have heard a lot from Julie what it's like to marry into the British aristocracy. I'd love to flip the coin and I'd love Julie to ask Luke what is it like to marry an American. That would be my first question My second question would be what did he feel was the biggest culture shock when he came across the pond to meet Julie's parents or to learn about Julie's life or has he ever learned about Julie's life in America let's see that takes up question two and three. I'm sure I could think of something else but I think that would cover it and I'm sure you could break that down into five different questions.

    To Luke, Julie is relaxed, funny, sweet, dignified, and welcoming. Not to mention she has the determination to revive a family estate as well as raise a family and be a wife. Luke, you chose well.

    The reason your channels are successful, is I believe down to charisma. Buckets of it. Poor Julie, not being able to go down to breakfast in her PJs!

    Hi there from Chicagoland!! Luke has often wondered why the channel had so many views but not nearly as much ‘likes’ or subscribers - well here is one reason: I watch UA-cam on my 55 inch screen tv (so much better seeing such fabulous sites on a big screen). Watching on tv you cannot hit the like button. I have to go back to my computer, IPad or IPhone and hit the like button and as a human I forget sometimes!! Then I go back and practically hit days and weeks of ‘likes’ for the channels I subscribe to. It probably screws up your algorithm but I think - better late than never!!!!!

    Love it. After 26 years of living in the UK I still sometimes, secretly, wonder "How come I didn't get married into nobility here, why, why, why". Now that Julie mentioned not being able to have breakfast in your pyjamas sums it up! Snap! I would have started a riot. Saying this, love you guys. Much love.

      Yes the East Coast has a greater influence of British/English/European than any other part of the country. We also learned French in school from 4th grade on. I moved to Southern California & it took me a very long time to pick up Spanish pronunciations of street names, towns, etc. I still get made fun of for the way I pronounce certain words or names. Apparently many of them I say like the English. Like orange. I say Ah- ringe & they say OR-ange. Lol who knew?

    1. Where and how did you two meet?; 2. When did Vicountess Hichingbrook find out that Luke is a Viscount? Was it before her first visit to Mapperton? Did she find out the first time she arrived at Mapperton (as in, "Guess what, darling? I have a surprise for you!")?; 3. Do your children have titles?; 4. How many children do you have? What are their names and ages?; and 5. Are the boys attending fancy "public" schools such as Eaton or Harrow? If not, do they attend nearby comprehensives? xxx ooo --Writing from the Viscountess's hometown of Chicago!!! (Keep up the great work! I love the onscreen chemistry you both have!!)

    Having breakfast in your pajamas is just divine. Poor Brits...always so formal and standing on ceremony (said in a nice way--don't be cross). In your house, you should be able to do whatever you wish, when you wish. To Americans, having breakfast in our pajamas and such represents intimacy, and family connection--in America, if you have been invited to our home, it stands to reason that you are already close to us as a family and that eating together in the morning before we get dressed and such is a good way to wake up, get nourishment, start our day together. Also, it makes so much more sense to wash up and brush your teeth AFTER breakfast than before. If you have been cooking, showering and dressing afterward takes the cooking smells from you and your clothing. You are nourished, cleaned, refreshed and ready for the day. Makes so much more sense to me!

Here they are: have you ever worn your tiara again after your wedding?, have either of you met any of the Royal Family, and how do you communicate with each other when you are in different areas of the house-do you call each other on the phone or text or have a walkie talkie or........ I cant wait to watch this. I am wondering how often you and your family return to America and/or Chicago. Do you and/or kids have dual citizenship? For your clueless American fans who want to understand your world correctly, can you explain a) Is the Earl of Sandwich a royal title or nobility and what is the difference? B) does the title allow your father in law to participate in governing? I have heard of the House of Lords but I am not sure if the Earl of a sandwich is one of those Lords and c) I believe I read that all nobility titles, except one, pass only through to the males and the females are never eligible. Is this still true after The UK changed the rules of Succession to allow females and males to be on an equal footing for succession to be the monarch?
    In America, we have the Fifth and Fourteenth Amendments which guarantee women and men are to be treated equally under the law. the Fifth Amendment applies to the federal government and the Fourteenth Amendment makes the 5th binding on every state in the Union. Those amendments would prohibit restrictions in representation based on race, gender, or religion. Is there any Constitutional protection, or similar law, in the Uk that would allow a woman to challenge the nobility lineage rules as violating a similar equal protection right? It is my understanding that the UK Constitution is very different than America’s and I am very curious about Julie’s thoughts on these things as an American living in the UK for two decades.
    One last, unrelated question. When do we reference location as London, Britain, England, and United Kingdom? If you are in Northern Ireland. (The part I believe is in the UK), do you say you are in Ireland or is that reserved for the separate Republic of Ireland. There are so many ways to get these things wrong and make a major OOPS, without so intending.

    • @thekingsdaughter4233
      @thekingsdaughter4233 2 роки тому +2

      I couldn't say for sure, but there are some things lawyers won't touch. The lineage stuff might be among them. What I'm thinking of are stipulations re. certain, (former) ruling European houses when it comes to marriage. The current would-be king of Prussia/Emperor of Germany is in his (solely on paper) position because his uncles, who were in line before him, married commoners. He himself is married to a princess. The uncles challenged and got turned down. The Prince of Liechtenstein is not married to his long-term partner, because that lady does not fulfill the requirements (noble birth, and of Protestant faith - she is a Catholic commoner) either. They do not have children together anyway, but even if, the oldest son of his oldest sister will inherit the title. Had this prince married Ms Carina Axelson, he would have lost title and inheritance. Lawyers say if they start with things like that, there would be no end to challenging wills over what was normal and accepted way back when, but is deemed offensive or, "offensive" nowadays.
      The Queen made it so that the birth order stands- Princess Charlotte was not bumped down when her little brother was born, unlike Princess Anne back in the day. This does not work backwards but only forward from the day of the ruling. I thought that was for all lineage inheritances, but maybe only for the royal family.

Also, what a wonderful way to meet your future in-laws- out in the woods, carrying a heavy log and answering questions about yourself; so much less intimidating than having a proper tea with the Earl and Countess of Sandwich upon first meeting. I have a question: Julie, what common US grocery store items do you miss seeing in the grocery stores in the UK?

    • @Holidaygal
      @Holidaygal 2 роки тому +7

      One of my sisters lived in England for 9 years. She said what it was she missed from the stores there was American toilet paper, American laundry detergent and popcorn.

      I lived in Norway for years, and didn't miss anything. There's an American grocery store in the town I lived in; however, I mostly used Norwegian products. I'm sure Julie can get pretty much everything she wants, that there's an American grocery store in London.

      My sister living in England misses the pink container of Knudsen cottage cheese! And other things of course. But I have to agree with her cottage cheese preference! 😂

    After watching this for a third time since it came out, I have a suggestion. Luke and your kids should try coming down for breakfast in your pajamas for every Sunday in a month, in an effort to acknowledge Julie’s heritage and to give them a sense of her history. Julie does SOOoo much to preserve Mapperton. It would be nice to see the family give some nods to her heritage as well. Julie is right, Americans are big in enjoying breakfast in warm and comfy pajamas. One wouldn’t come downstairs in sexy lingerie, with kids or company, but they would come down in warm socks and fluffy PJs. On Sundays, it is common to have a brunch (I am not sure if the Brits have brunches, but it is a combo meal of breakfast and lunch that is usually served around 10 or 10:30 am). You could enjoy a hearty brunch with pancakes or waffles, eggs, bacon, etc. in America, this tradition is often observed on holidays like Christmas morning (where the children race to the Christmas tree upon waking so they can check out the stockings and wrapped gifts).
    How often do you guys visit America and do the kids travel with you and stay with family or do you usually stay in hotels? I ask because I can imagine Luke and boys getting a better understanding of the “bonkers breakfast PJ” appeal when participating in it with family members.
