The coast guard sets the ratings. Canada has allowed 3hp the U.S. only 2hp not sure why they have decided these numbers. I have used a 4hp on my 14 footer with no problems if that means anything.
I imagine that it could be fitted. Even if it had to be bolted to the rear deck. Some people have done this to sportspal canoes in the past. I think a swift would absolutely fly with a small outboard on it. Might be best to ask swift their opinion as I might be more willing to try sketchy stuff. But good luck 👍

Got a 1.2 hp Tanaka two-stroke, about 10lbs. I have had it on a canoe pulling two other canoes, 6 people total. Lots of power.

If I put seats on top of the factory installed webbed benches, will I affect stability? Add about 1.5 inches to seat height. Thanks!
I do exactly that with mine. Don't think it effects stability any noticeable amount imo. Cheers

Hey John I believe it's a 20" shaft. Works great on both wide stern or pointed, even use it on my 14 aluminum boat sometimes.

29.5 lbs empty. Just heavy enough to be careful.
