That's great, I love it THANK YOU!! I have a damaged SportsPal I want to make seaworthy this year... Where the heck do I get the sealant/caulking ?? ( I'm in BC Canada) please and thank you. I have yet to find anything that will adhere to aluminum.
I usually sell a 12 footer around 500 after I do a refurbishment. If in good shape that would be likely the highest I'd pay. Have paid as little as $100 for a project though
Hey, I have an early 60's sportspal. The hull is in great shape but I'd like to replace the liner and sponsons and sand/reseal the inside while I've got it empty. Do you sell the foam at your store?
Hey zac526 sounds like a cool old canoe. Yes they have all the parts you would need info@bwmarineproducts.com is the place to contact. Good luck with the refurbishment
You helped me track down the Indian head decals recently, I appreciate that. I’m a fairly recent first time Sportspal owner (brand new American Meyers back in 2019) and am fascinated by the history of the whole Sportspal/Raddison/Castle Craft thing … so am I to understand you work for the Canadian Raddison or Sportspal entity or am I missing something ? I’d love to see a future video outlining the whole “family tree” of these canoes and the timelines involved and perhaps some info or pictures of the oldest one you’ve come across. These canoes are very few and far between down here in New Jersey, I’ve only ever seen two besides mine. I will say they start quite a few conversations, especially when kayakers and other canoes see me effortlessly standing in my S-14 fishing or underway to another spot … I’m definitely the odd man out but do turn some heads. Anyhow, thanks for the videos and the interesting content 👍
Thanks, I do work at the Sportspal/Radisson facility and have permission to share with my channel. The history is a bit foggy but I do have some info in an old video. However I did stumble across some old distributor advertisements, I will talk to my boss about some of the historical points that I don't have and will put something together. Cheers
@Yann396 That's not wrong with the history. I've been looking into it, and there are definitely some stretches of information hiding somewhere. Cool about the Radisson angle. Cheers
Sorry I accidentally deleted my previous reply : “Original Radisson Canoe where made in Quebec, Canada and where fiberglass canoes. I still have one from the early 70s and it is beautiful. Dont know when they where bought out/merged with sportspal. Pretty foggy history indeed!” Beautiful Sportspal you have there👍🏻
I just bought an old 12’ Sportspal double end. Maybe you can help me out? It’s old I think it has no hull ID or plate but S57 is painted on the side below the logo The sponsons are yellow along with the foam seats (which have little containers of matches in them). Oh and the hull seams use screws not rivets. There’s some kind of roll of twine bungee corded to the yoke also and the motor support is wood but has factory paint Bottom still has all its paint and not one dent!
I think you a Meyers sportspal very much similar. It's quite old as the number system was just that it's either 557 or 57 either way old as the motor mount was cut out of basically a 4x4 piece of wood. Sounds like a cool old canoe enjoy
Thanks man, appreciate it. I reached out to the manufacturer to figure out what the “s” is before 57. No clue why it’s there but it’s definitely an “s”
What are you using to seal the seams? Is there a specific product you can recommend? The best I have found online is a aluminum leak repair 2 part epoxy
@@GettenanyOutdoorsSportspal thank you I saw that in another comment you replied to and shot them an email. Your video’s on these canoes are the best. Thank you. Happy new year
I always try to hammer out most dents, especially larger oneswhen the liner and ribs are out. Afterwards, when the liner and ribs are in, some of the smaller dents come out easier with the extra strength in the hull
It's kind of tricky we use a customized roller to do it. I would think it may be difficult to reproduce in a diy situation. But I will think about how one might be able to pull it off.
It's adthane marine sealant available through info@bwmarineproducts.com. We use an enamel from Sherwin Williams. Could probably use auto paint, haven't heard of any problems yet.
That is the exact sealant used in the fabrication process. It stays where you put it and cures while remaining slightly flexible to resist any cranking
@GettenanyOutdoorsSportspal I'm looking to get my great grandfathers sports pall restored do you guys take on new projects or is this for personal repairs, it's from the 60s and was built by the original maker. Great work and videos I really enjoyed them.
Another thing Dave money can't buy you happiness but it can buy you a canoe. Thanks for another great video.
Love it! Looks great. The lighter paint job always was my favorite
Dave I want to thank you and your team at Sportspal North Bay for the great job you did refurbishing my old 12' canoe.
I have the exact same boat in the same rundown condition. Ballpark how much did this cost ya if you dont mind the ask?
the total was around $200. Seat, yoke, patched hole ,all external joints re caulked@@propagandapandas
great video! your pride in the brand shows.
Nice work Dave , thanks for sharing your experience of fixing up the canoes. Always like watching you work your magic
The real trick is if it floats

What sealant are you using? I'm going to be buying a sports pal canoe soon, and I'm watching your videos if I ever need to do repairs.
@mryotahead it's adthane marine sealant. It has a shelf life of 1 year, so I wouldn't buy it ahead of time. Thanks for looking at the channel cheers 🍻
I bought a brand new sportspal s-15 from meyers just for duck season. Probably the only sportspal in Mississippi lol.
Great Job! Most important thing is the sealant/caulk. What would you recommend???
Thanks. The sealant is adthane marine sealant if you contact info@bwmarineproducts.com the can line some up for you
@@GettenanyOutdoorsSportspaldid yiu prime right over the caulking? It takes paint ok?
In the process of repainting an 1970 sportspal. Any advice on paint removal would be appreciated. So I really need to strip it down to bare metal?
If you don't have to strip it down, I wouldn't lots of unnecessary work in my opinion. Just make sure the surface is smooth and clean, then paint.
It came out great!
Thanks. That's the first one finished I have another one that is beautifully beat to hell.
I found a canoe similar to the one your working on, what would be a fair price to pay.
Thank you for your time

Thanks for the info, any advice on how to maintain the screwed together hull vs the rivets?
I would make sure the seams are sealed well and any loose spots along the gunwale to add rivets or screws as needed to keep together
Thanks man, appreciate it.
I reached out to the manufacturer to figure out what the “s” is before 57. No clue why it’s there but it’s definitely an “s”
I'm not super familiar with how Meyers did their numbers. Some of the old ones have the # stamped on the bow on the top of the gunwale

If I paint mine this spring how does one get the birchbark look? The darker colored swirls.

Where do you find the serial number on these ?
@danflowers8584 the older ones were painted on the side below decal and other deck. Some were stamped into the gunnel at the end or right at the bar.
Nice work. I assume this sealant is very similar to 3M 5200 ?
I haven't seen 3m used but have heard of people trying it. I am planning a video trying different types of patch material might 🤔 try it
