JBL respects someone who can take it from him. Meanie took it and was still standing. JBL is a bully but when you stand up to him. He stops. I heard JBL tried getting cute with Joey Styles and he made JBL know he's not one to be fucked with. The best thing about standing up to a bully, you don't have to win the fight vs the bully. The bully respects you for having the balls to even step to him or challenge him once the bully pushes enough buttons. Brock Lesnar said he was a bully, admittedly. So he goes to the ufc and finds out there are bigger badder bullies than himself. Like Overeem. Or Ubereem as we called him.

I've looked back at matches with JBL. He was often stiff and sometimes liked like he was trying to hurt people. For him to treat Meanie carefully had to have come from the upper management,
Dutch Mantell who used to manage him talked about JBLs clothesline from Hell, could be brutal or soft depending on whom he gave it to. When Dutche's run was up and they had to have JBL turn on him and give Dutch the clothesline, Dutch said he was a little worried being up in years and not in the greatest health. He said Bradshaw barely touched up. Good sign of respect for Dirty Dutch there. So he does have a heart but some of the stuff like soaping up guys butts like a young edge in the shower is just flat out creepy

Dang man, every time I hear one of Stevie's stories, I wish he would come out of retirement for one last match. I know it would never happen, but even if it was just an indie show somewhere, I would watch it!
JBL probably told him to tell the magazine that it was a shoot and he was giving him a receipt as insurance in case Meanie would sue. He then had a countersuit with essentially a written confession.
I appreciate your point alot you have a clear separation between a receipt and a shoot/accident A receipt is done on purpose but never with ill intent even Undertaker said it. You get back to them but not with the goal of hurting or emding career. A shoot is when you go all out regardless of consequences and opponents well being Accident is what happened to you. You did the job but odd didnt played for you in the particular moment that made it look like a shoot. Its like when owen hurt austin. It was an accident but people say at time it was him getting back at vince for bret. But it was just a freak accident at the wrong time ironically. You care for your opponent regardless who they are and what they done to you speak volumes of you quality of wrestling mind and work too. Huge respect bro bug time
This stuff is great, looking forward to seeing more! Absolutely hated Stevie as a kid (RTC might have been one of the most irritating things in the world - which is testament to them doing a great job!). Have so much respect for him now.
I remember interviewing Meanie during a British show and he was just around the time when he got his beating from Bradshaw. Lovely guy, him and Austin Aeries, who was the only other wrestler to shake my hand.
Appreciate the insight, but I also believe that if ppl want to see jbl as a bully, that's fair too. Messing with ppl while they're in the shower, as Edge said in his book, is odd behavior.
That makes no darn sense, just because it CAN be a safe working environment when they were being careful doesn't change what happened that one violent unsafe night. Bradshaw did work out of fear of being sued or losing his job, no one thinks otherwise.
Wow, goes to show what we think happens in the ring as a receipt might just be an errant chairshot. Stevie could have easily lied and said "damn right i waffled him with the chair, he 100% deserved it" but he was like "nope, not a receipt, just a botched chairshot"
Seems like it was a misjudgement of distance that caused the top of the chair to make contact with JBL's head. Is there a reason why the forehead wouldn't be a better target for chair strikes? I thought the top of the head was a weak point whereas the forehead has thicker skull. Perhaps that is a misconception.
Don't feel too bad for him... he wanted the stardom/nepotism without doing any of the work. When your Dad is Chris Benoit, you have to work pretty hard to have string bean arms that David has. If he had spent some time in the gym, then maybe he would deserve a look.
I truly hope WWE 2K25 has super hard chair shots. If you hold strike button while holding a chair for 3 seconds and longer and release then you get really mean and hard chair shots!
I say Goldberg guilt is why he never checked on Bret Hart. Bret would have told him what was up? It wouldn't have felt good. But they probably be friends? What if's aren't real.
Bradshaw and Holly are 2 of my favorites but the bully tactics they used made me sick. That Brawl for All showed Bradshaw and Holly were not the Sh8t they thought they were. 🎉
From what I understand, even in the podcast of JBL and Meanie, is that John is quite a loudmouth, but he doesn't really mean any harm. I don't think he was a bully, but he definitely did not understand how people would feel with his jokes. From all this story, I really have a problem with Taker. He's shown time and time again he really was an ahole with a lot of the guys, by bringing them down when they really didn't deserve it.
RVD talked about JBL being a loudmouth and f***ing up his zen, but in that same video he did call him a bully cause of how he saw him treat other wrestlers like Renee Dupree, basically JBL knew who he could mess with and who he couldn't mess with.
It's because JBL wasn't a bully. He was hazing people until the proved they were part of "the boys." It goes on in literally every sport. It's a process of initiation. It's only weak soy-boys that never played sports that call it bullying.
By all accounts, Owen Hart was the pro's pro. He loved the business and took it seriously. By injuring Austin, he effectively killed the goose that laid the golden egg. It took money out of everyone's pocket, including his. I have no doubt that he felt terrible about it. Based on Austin's comments about it 25 years later, I can't imagine that he was very approachable in the immediate aftermath of the injury. I can understand why Owen avoided him. The situation with Goldberg and Bret was very similar. Goldberg was new to the business, and Bret was one of the biggest names in the business at that time. I'm sure Goldberg felt terrible at the time and didn't know how to approach Bret.
What Stevie is referring is my issue with aew. Too many of their talent *cough* Sammy Guevara, still have an indie mindset of “getting my shit in” regardless of the situation.

You’re the man, Stevie! 🤘
Wait, the previous stories were not REAL!?
I feel violated.
I remember interviewing Meanie during a British show and he was just around the time when he got his beating from Bradshaw. Lovely guy, him and Austin Aeries, who was the only other wrestler to shake my hand.
"we should not get in the business to hurt anybody" somebody should have told that to New Jack
That match was actually underrated for what it was
Stevie. No one blames you. We all hate Bradshaw
Is there any reason why it was Stevie, and not the Blue Meanie himself, who gave the receipt?
"Smart Marks" LOL oh im gonna use that one
Nice , +1 for Big Stevie Cool!
All I can imagine is JBL thinking “will this guy leave me the fuck alone”
He will have to tell this story forever
does anyone else think Stevie would be an amazing ring side announcer. someone give this man a job !
You stand on business sir, respect for a humanist
Perhaps that is a misconception.
i honestly feel so bad for David..he's someone who loves wrestling and wants to be a part of it but because of what happened WWE won't give him a shot
Don't feel too bad for him... he wanted the stardom/nepotism without doing any of the work. When your Dad is Chris Benoit, you have to work pretty hard to have string bean arms that David has.
If he had spent some time in the gym, then maybe he would deserve a look.
He's working with AEW, so at least he's wrestling . He wanted to work under his dad's name.
JBL tried to kill the blue meanie for nothing! Richards did the right thing delivering the great chair shot in WWE history!
We need you to get with Mavin talking about stuff.
Undertaker Is Good Friends With JBL
That I call the second chair shot heard around the world
Fuckin stand up guy right here! All the best Stevie!
What a class act Stevie is...
Bradshaw and Holly are 2 of my favorites but the bully tactics they used made me sick. That Brawl for All showed Bradshaw and Holly were not the Sh8t they thought they were. 🎉
Stevie be lyin bout that chair shot😂
Mr Richards, you have far too much class for the Industry.
Will Stevie speak on Crash Holly at some point?
When did Stevie hit JBL with a brutal chair shot ? Helps if we knew the date.
What Stevie is referring is my issue with aew. Too many of their talent *cough* Sammy Guevara, still have an indie mindset of “getting my shit in” regardless of the situation.
Whenever he asked about testifying, Mick Foley told Meanie he would back him up if he sued.
This has to be a Mandela effect I remember Stevie jumping with that chair shot am I remembering this differently?
