    I started riding on a 1942 "45" flat head back in 1955. Foot clutch hand shift. However the clutch stayed where you put it. Very cool set up you have. Nothing sounds better on an EVO that those upswept fish tails. I have a 99 FXSTC that I love. I am 80 years old so do not do long rides anymore, but enjoy putting around the back roads where I live.
    Great video. Thanks for letting us see your ride.

    The bike looks & sounds good, a very clean ride. Congratulations!
    Growing up in the early 60s and 70s, I hung around older boys from my neighbourhood who were chopping down Harley trikes and side cars (bought at police auctions & army surplus).
    Many of those chopped bikes had a foot clutch, a hand shifter usually on/by the gas tank or the jockey shift type. Rigid frame and a kicker of course. Now, if you want to use the term ‘suicide clutch’ rightly, you have to have these 4 things on a motorcycle:
    1) 2 wheels (no side car or trike)
    2) A ‘foot clutch’
    3) A ‘hand shift’
    4) NO FRONT BRAKES
    My own ride is a custom built (2008), with a softail chopper frame (Rolling Thunder), an S & S shovelhead (93ci) with a foot clutch and a jockey shift and a front (disc) brake, NOT a true ‘suicide clutch’ set up.
    Having a ‘foot clutch’ & a ‘hand shift’, doesn’t make it a ‘suicide clutch’, sorry. Some even call that set up a ‘suicide shifter’. (See Note)
    There is nothing suicidal about a hand shift/foot clutch combination if you have brakes on the front wheel. The ‘rocker foot clutch’ is something else but basically the same. Some like it better.
    The reason it’s called a ‘suicide clutch’, is because with this set up, the rider can't stop on an upward incline for a street light, a stop sign or for any other reasons unless he has a buddy riding along behind who would put his front tire against your rear wheel to hold your motorcycle from rolling back.
    Hand shifting a motorcycle is not dangerous or that difficult and it’s ‘cool’, I love mine, but without front brakes, it could be ‘tricky’ at times to say the least and also it may be illegal in many jurisdictions today.
    I lived through those times and it’s just my opinion and there’s probably more to it. You can call it whatever you want, it’s your ride.
    Note: ‘Suicide Shifter’ The clutch lever is on the shifter (stick) instead of handle bar. Not cool…

      Kohala, I come to learn and not to talk like a sick dog, and you sound the most reasonable so far. I have avery arthritic left hand and have not been able to ride for quite a time. Is it difficult to use a suicide shift/clutch whatever. My leftt hand just can not squeeze a shifters on most bikes. My sons Electra Glide I can't budge. I did find a dyna Bob yesterday that I could squeeze although with quite a bit of pain, but have found an item called an easy shifter that is supposed to cut the pull in half. Have you heard of them or any body that may have used them? Or what about the suicide clutch and rebuild? Thanks Mike

      Right but if he ever wanted to get into the 80+ mph range, the bike wouldn't feel right unless the front tire was skipping a bit from the wind, so gotta make sure to add a good airfoil to the front tire to help give it some lift at speed.

      Good luck getting people to say "just a hand shift foot clutch" instead of suicide clutch. Next you can tackle that whole "engine" vs "motor" problem.

    • @jaceelee5450
      @jaceelee5450 3 роки тому

      A suicide clutch refers to the clutch being operated by the foot, which means you are more likely to drop the bike since you can use that foot for balance quickly, the missing front brake is not a requirement, but if you want to have a dangerous bike you extend the rake, add a suicide clutch and shift lever, and remove the front break, also added props if you put spikes everywhere.

      A suicide clutch, or jockey, is the foot clutch, and a hand shifter, it's called a suicide clutch because you have to remove your hand from the bars while shifting. And especially when stopping your left foot stays on the clutch making it very hard to put both feet down in a hurry.

    I have to say that watching all the movements shifting I would opt for an automatic motorcycle to have more enjoyment

      It's not fun if you aren't shifting...

      There is only a couple automatic motorcycles that I am aware of.

      I used to enjoy shifting but after riding for over 30 years it gets old, especially in city traffic.

      Bill Hill
      The Honda cb 750 A, four,( Hondamatic) was made in 1977 and 1978, and I have a beautiful 1977 Hondamatic in an Amen Savior frame which was the 1st soft tail made, It has a 6 inch vertical spring/shock with a raked neck.
      I have a suicide style jockey shifter on the side and 6inch over front forks. It is fun to drive all over and never need to shift.
      Imagine a 1977 engine and transmission and still going strong.

    I want a motorcycle soooo bad. I'm almost tempted to trade some guns for one. Or a gun... ALMOST...

      I'll be your huckleberry. I have a 67 just like this one, no front fender or brake though, also have a 48 frame pulled the stroked pan out several years back needed mOney! But did that cause that's what dude wanted, of course he had to want only the motor & paper! And so went my 77 shovelhead in that frame same look as this, I had to swap the transmission N it got a 5in a 4 to solve the main shaft difference. What you have that you like to trade? You in the good old US?

    Fishtails look good but are leg burners and performance wise suck. This guy looks uncomfortable on this bike. First time on a suicide I’m guessing.

    Lets get it straight: foot clutch with JOCKEY shift. suicide clutch is a rocker style that would engage when your foot was off of it. Go do some history on early Harley clutches.

      A foot clutch on a bike is a suicide clutch

    • @jaceelee5450
      @jaceelee5450 3 роки тому

      A suicide clutch just refers to the clutch being operated by the riders left foot, since it could cause a rider to become unbalanced and fall.
