UPDATE: I am two weeks post surgery, and the surgeon reported that it went textbook, and I will be on the road to recovery in no time. The first week after the procedure was intense, but with every day, I am feeling better. The pain from the impingement of root nerves is largely gone, and now I wait for the body to do its thing in terms of healing. Thank you all for your wonderful support related to my surgery in these comments, in the Alliance Group, Direct Messages, calls, and texts. To God Be the Glory. Greg

Amen! Thanks for the update and so thankful to the Lord for you and your family for answered prayer.
Love you videos and look forward to watching them but to me this one is the best you have ever done. Sharing your faith and how you rely on it through the ups and downs of life is a testimony to who you are and who you belong to. Amen!
Once a few months back you talked about how you and your wife raised your children to work unto the Lord. I loved that video too. I remember saying the same thing to my own kids when I had them at home while they were growing up.
Sharing our faith strengthens the body of Christ and it also gives us strength when we share those burdens with others. Just looking at the comments many people wanted to lift you up in prayer and to share the burden you carry. I thank God for the power of prayer. It always changes things and it works.
Glad Beard brand has you as one of their spokesman.
May the Lord bless you and your family.

Greg - I had my cervical c2-c6 surgery last February 2022. They went in through the back of my neck and put in two titanium plates with 6 screws.
In my opinion, The first two weeks
Post surgery are the worst pain wise.
After one month post surgery I started physical therapy 2 x per week for four months.
I had to wear a neck brace (Aspen collar) for a
      Couple of months following surgery.
      I’m pain free now.
Best of luck with your procedure.

Greg, thank you for sharing your life and Christian testimony. You will be in my prayers. God bless you and your family during this test of faith. I have dealt with my own tests of faith in recent years. After my wife of over 30 years was diagnosed with an incurable, degenerative disease, we have learned to cherish the good moments and thank God for what we have today ,and not what we have lost. As Christians, we believe in eternal life, but times like these make us face that belief in a whole new way. God will grow you through this experience. Stay close to Him

Confidence in your dr is a lot. I had a massive heart attack when I was 41. Scared me a lot. Had open heart surgery which resulted in 6 bypasses. Has another open heart surgery I 2006. Which resulted in another 3 bypasses.
I trust my health care providers very much. I am now 73 and doing great
I believe attitude has alot to do with it all. Hope ever goes well.

Always use the 3 P's... Pray, Pray, and Pray. God Bless you, Greg!! My wife had brain surgery 1 year after we got married. She has a condition that required emergency surgery. 14 years later, we are blessed and so thankful. It put focus on what is important, family and the time we have with each other. So thankful you spoke about God. So many people are growing up without knowing his grace! Best wishes and speedy recovery!

Last October, I started growing out my beard...for fun. I came across your vids on UA-cam (and Beard Brand), wanting to learn how to do all-things-beard. I even showed one of your pics to my barber and said, "Hey, let's do it like this." Anyway, I started watching your videos because the videos humanized you, and I wondered, "Is there substance behind the beard." Well, let's just say I've appreciated your depth and vulnerability. Thank you. So, from one old guy (married 30 years, former pastor/missionary, and affiliate assistant prof at a well-known school of theology), beard-on my friend! And may you continue to use your platform to help men know what really matters - a relationship with Jesus.

Have had a very similar experience as you. Surgery, though, scary, was wonderful. Prayer and letting go to my belief and care of God got me through. I am 67 and was rear ended by another car-age issues plus trauma worked havoc with my neck and lower back. Recently completed neck surgery, which, worked wonderfully. Now dealing with my back. As with you the pain has been excruciating-and causes many life questions. My Faith and support of my wife and brethren got me through-through the process I had to let go-I realized very quickly that I was not the one in control.

I know what you go through, I’m 34, I have ombilical hernia since my teenage years. About 2 years ago I had low back pain/issues growing slowly but was manageable at first. A year later wasn’t able to sleep more than 5 hours in a row, little bit later wasn’t able to work. Long story short, mri showed 3 herniated disc. I’m doing better now with help of physio and daily exercises! But I still have ups and downs. Stay strong!

Hey Greg, I just now watched your video. Thank you for sharing your faith and witness with us. Know that you will be in my prayers during your recovery. I had fallen away from my faith for quite a while and during some hard times in my life, I felt Him calling out to me. When I go through tough times, I always rely on Him and find comfort in prayer and spending quiet time with Him in adoration. However, it’s always easy to find Him in the rough patches, we need to continue to find Him and give Him praise in the best of times too. God bless, and my He comfort you during your time of recovery!

Greg, I really want to thank you for this. You have been an inspiration for me the past few years. I saw you first on a vid with Trav White talking about long hair. You are actually the reason I decided to grow out my hair again.
I also try to stay in shape and seeing how great you look inspires me to keep going to the gym.
The back pain... I have two herniated discs and have been told by two different doctors to stop squatting and deadlifting. I've learned to work around it. It sucks. I hate not being able to control all aspects of my life. But like you said, you have to learn to deal with it.
I wish you all the best and will continue to support you via social media. I'm not sure if you'll see this, but my thoughts and prayers are with you.

Greg a little over a year I had a motorcycle accident and broke four ribs and a collapsed lung and while in hospital while being scanned the hospital found cancer in my left kidney.
On September of last year I underwent surgery to remove my kidney and for the last four months I have been in recovery.
    Stay strong.
I am hoping to make more music and videos again soon.
I also have spinal damage from my teenage years and I am partially death and autistic.

Hope all goes well with your surgery.
I have had problems with my spine and neck since i was about 13 due to an assault i suffered that almost left me in a wheel chair and it every year it gets worse. I am also at the point of my doctor sending to do MRI to see if i should have surgery; been on the waiting list for about 6 years now. Spinal problems are never to be joked with and sadly treatments etc are still far from ideal but it's all we have so like you said, we have to give up control.

Greg, I know what you're going through. I've had two spinal surgeries and thankfully I was in the hands of a gifted Saint. You reach a point where pain overrides everything and you'll do anything to bring back your previous comfort levels. Just focus on healing and draw on the strength from the love of your family and friends. Take your recovery one day at a time and give your body time to heal properly. Godspeed my bearded brother.

I hope your recovery goes well, I saw your update, so at least we know the surgery went well. I think you'll do well, it helps that you went into it in good shape and living clean and healthy. You'll bounce back great.
Genetics and age is something I know about. I have Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, a hyper mobility connective tissue disorder. I've had 8 major orthopedic surgeries, and just as many small surgeries with the little cameras. One was a spine fusion, and I might need a couple more by the time I'm done. I'm 50 and I was told I'd be wheelchair bound by 35. I'm still walking and working out every weekday, with minimal use of anti-inflammatories, and only occasional use of medicinal cannabis when the pain really sucks. I may not have religious faith, but I'm stubborn and have faith in my pain tolerance. I refuse to give up. I'll take a break when I'm dead. I was never in the military but I live by a Marine Corp acronym, F.I.D.O., the polite way to say it is "Forget It Drive On".
Take it from a guy who knows, follow doctor's orders and your rehabilitation therapist's orders like your god is talking through them. They want you to be a success story as much as you do. Eat to heal and stay fit as you can, and you will heal well.

I am not a religious person so, when I have tough situations, I look for some way, no matter how small, that I can take action. As long as I can find some next step, I have something I can do and am participating in making my situation better. My experience has shown me that, once I take that step, another one will become evident. I don’t have to concern myself with weeks or months down the road, I just have to find the next step. I wish you well Greg and send you good thoughts.

Yeah, I'm with you, man. I had multiple health problems I could do nothing about. Family and religion does help.
But also just be a control freak a little - if there's a 100% of things to do to get to the situation You desire, and not all of them are under Your control then at least do 100% of the things that You yourself can do.
As You said, you consulted not just 1 doctor but 3 or 4. A friend of mine got cancer and one doc told him he needs to have his leg cut off. He consulted another one and now is cancer-free, has both legs and a prosthetic hip.

Greg, here's my perspective on age related ailments that we find ourselves in: no matter how well we take care of ourselves it is no guarantee that we won't have illness. God never said that there were not going to be trials and tribulation. The good news is that because you have taken good care of yourself your recovery will be significantly better than someone who hasn't been as careful. I do enjoy what you put out on the internet. The grooming content helps me with the care of disabled men who on occasion I do shave. I do think that purchasing some beard brand oils could help them out. Maybe one day....

Prayers: My wife went through something very similar, albeit lower back. If it wasn't for our Church we would have had difficulty but my wife made it through safely and on her way to recovery, you will too.

I also had a herniaged disc back in 2018, at the age of 19. It was in the lumbar portion of the spine, and that pinch in the nerves made my legs barely work. At that time, I was still in school, and most likely the reason for that was that I'm a 6'8 guy and was overwheight at the time, using those small school chairs forced me into bad posture and caused this. What helps the most is physiotherapy and calisthenics exercises, that let the spine distress and aliviate the pressure on the discs.

Greg I know of which you speak. I have two surgeries in the past two years. As a result I have had metal plates and bone graft. I know without a doubt you will come through with good results. I am now seventy years old an just had my last neck surgery. Do everything post operation that your doctor says. May God bless and keep you safe.

I really appreciate you sharing with us what is going on behind the scenes of your life Greg. As one who has had many health related “challenges “( 2 bouts with cancer, open heart surgery and severe scoliosis that brings daily pain) trust in my Sovereign Lord has never been as strong because of these trials. And because He is my God I know I am under His watching eye THROUGH these issues. I will say these infirmities have revealed who my friends are and many more are watching how I respond to difficult days and your friends and family will watch you as well. I will be praying for you and your family and a wisdom for the Dr too!
