His 12 weeks are 120 for me. My beard sucks to be honest. my dad always had a thicc full beard, and mine looks like nothing. Genetics sucked, at least for me. What is weird is that the hair on my chin area looks goldish/copperish, the moustache looks lighter in colour and side hair looks brown. People think that I have no moustache at all, but they are lighter in colour. Also, my beard grows the thickest and the strongest on my goatee area... Maybe I am still a young man (21yo). It probably takes time to grow a beard.

Wow, your resemblance to your mother's grandfather is amazing. In my own family I found a picture of my father's grandfather and they looked identical. I was astounded. My son and I resemble each other in many ways except hair. I have medium brown hair with medium facial growth and light body hair growth. My son is a blonde bear with heavy body hair. I never saw a blonde with so much body hair on his chest and back. His facial hair however has the same growth pattern with the same blank spots but has heavier growth.
My grandfather has a full set of hair on his head and a big bushy beard at 81 years old. My dad can grow a bushy beard, too, though he's clean shaven at the moment. He's bald since he was 19 years old. He's 47 now. I have a full set of hair on my head (let's hope that doesn't change) I have a beard similar to Greg's son, Victor, though I have a slightly thicker moustache. I'm 20.
It's very encouraging to share this common idea which was misunderstood, like if your grandad and had a huge beard and your dad had it too, you'll have it or vice versa, it can be even better than their pattern or worse, that's why we should be able to appreciate what we have and try to sculpt to best out of our lovely beards!
I was so happy to hear that patches were a normal thing, I always wondered if hair would ever grow in that area or if it was just me, very informative video and interesting to see the differences :)
From what I understand beard genetics leads heavily on your mother's father/grandfather. My father/his father have heavy patches on the sides and not much sideburns but my dads goatee grows in thick. My mother's father and his father on the other hand have awesome beards. My father is full blooded Ojibway Native American (which is an ethnicity that grows very little facial hair other than their goatee) and mother's mother is also full blooded Ojibway. My mother's father however is half Irish and half Scottish which is why their beards are multicolored (blonde, orange, and brown hairs) The hair on my head is jet black, when I grow out my beard the hair is a lighter black and I get blonde, brown, and orange hairs in it all over my beard (mainly on my chin) My beard hair while somewhat thin grows all over and the only part I'm missing is from the cheek to the mustache by only a half inch, other than that it's great. Also, through some other people I've spoken with they've also said it depends on their mothers father/grandfather.
My Grandpa on my Mom's side and those on that side have great beard density and pattern. My Dad's side is less. Mine is closer to my Mom's side and my brother my Dad's. But we are both a blend of them.

I was once told that the genes responsible for hormones and how your body reacts to them are on the X chromosome which is why men typically follow there mothers side in terms of how hairy they are and weather or not they go bald. Obviously there are loads of other factors and my above comment says nothing about the actual pattern of growth but is more about the amount of hair. And women have 2 X chromosomes so there’s no tell which side of the mothers family the son will take after.

@@crowzero9305 well I'm 25 now. I think it's from both honestly. The places where the beard is my thickest ( mustache and chin area) are the same places where he has hair. But I also have quite a bit on the sides burns. That's where he lacks. I also am more hairy in general than him on the front of my torso.
@@canotajman So you don't reach full beard yet ? Personnaly my dad has a full beard since his 25 years of age, he has a very strong mustache and a super strong goatee where no skin can be seen, his chicks and sideburns are full but a little bit weaker. I just turned 23 and I have super strong sideburns and cheeks, a weaker mustache cause there is a hole in the middle but it's starting to grow fuller and thicker. The only problem is my chin hair, it's not as high as my father and there is just a blond down at the bottom of my bottom lip, I don't know what to do to make it grow. Since my 19 i have sideburns, cheeks, mustache, all except this area which is espacially full for my dad. My body hair and beard pattern is nearly the same as my father, he just has more hair on the chest, on the arms, he even has on his hands and fingers. I suppose the density will increase when I'll be older.
My dad rocked a mustache for a couple of years, I'd say my mustache and neck are the strongest parts of my beard. I've never seen his other facial hair other than stubble here and there.
my facial hair is weird. i grow like a chin strap and have hair on my neck , i have a few hairs on my cheeks and i can see baby like hairs up close that form like a beard but you cannot see it from a distance. i have a filipino mother where asian men have a history of not being able to grow a western beard and i have a english father. so maybe that explains why i have half a beard....
My beard is a mixture of my mom dads and my paternal grandma side of the family pattern is like maternal grandfather and thickness and texture is like paternal grandma side of the family and slowly still filling in at late 30s
Mine does skip a generation by looking at my father's side photo like you did. It was scary at first because people thought I was adopted since I don't look like either of my parents especially my heights. Not until I saw my family photos in the past.
My brother got the short end of the genetics stick on mustaches. Everyone in my family has a great mustache including myself, except my brother. My grandpa has a thick white mustache, my late great uncle had a dark brown horseshoe, and I have "the general Sheppard" and my brother has like 2 hairs for a mustache 😂
So that's 12 weeks of growth, similar growth rate as mine. My dad had a full beard in his earlier years but later on kept a short / trimmed goatee / mustache because of work and having to wear a respirator. My dads brother on the other hand could never grow a beard even to this day, always clean shaved. My beard is similar to my dads but he always said my beard was fuller/thicker than his. I have a patchy spot right below the soul patch that has never grown in.
My father and I have nearly identical straight full beards. But, my father has male pattern baldness. I still have a full head of hair in my late forties.
My father had a handlebar stasche, and one of those large hungarian stasches aswell when we were younger, yet I only get wisps of patchy hair both stasche and beard, quite strange.
my dad has a pretty strong moustache and kinda patchy cheeks and strong chin hair and neck hair. But both of my grandpas and all of my uncles grow strong beards so i have no idea
Me and my dad grandfather and great grandfather, have very similar faces/ facial structure as well as body size/type, but we all have very different facial hair patterns. I think theres no rhyme or reason, every family is different.
It is interesting looking at past generations facial growth. I don't know about my grandfathers' because they never sported a beard (very clean cut, traditional gents), but I can compare with my father. When I was 20, I started experimenting with facial hair and ended up disappointed because it wasn't as full as my fathers at the time, but the texture was similar - fairly fine and a little curly. Now I am 30 and I can tell you me and my father basically have identical beard patterns. My facial hair comes in a lot thicker and fuller, even though it could be more so and probably will get thicker over the next 10 years and so on. I think we will see this with Victor. He could end up with an even fuller beard than his father and grandfather's.
My dad has brown eyes, but I got my mom's green eyes, as do my brother. I have my grandfather's hair and beard, my brother is almost completely bald and has no beard. Genetics are weird.
How do you style your hair like that. Growing out my beard and my hair. Especially at medium length can't really get my hair to stay in shape. It's probably a bit shorter than yours but not too much
I'm now 41 and retained a full thatch on top which comes from my dads father aka grandad but dad was bald at 25 but my beard grow pattern has come from my father, very thick but patchy I can grow a killer mustache though like my dad could, I have the same bald patches as he did in exactly the same spots even the direction my beard grows is the same as my father's, I have to grow it long to do the comb over trick.
All the men in my family have dark head hair, and mostly dark beard hair with ginger highlights. I have dark brown hair that'll likely turn darker over time but rather than ginger kinda stripes in my facial hair I get patches of ginger while the rest is dark, like one side of my chin is almost entirely ginger but the other is almost entirely dark, just genetics 🤷🏻♂️
My dad has a thick full black beard, his dad also had one,My maternal grandfather has never let it grow more than a week, also pretty thick black goatee, sides are full but thinner, while my uncle has a red beard same growth pattern as my grandpa.. Me well at 20 i have similar patches like gregs tho smaller, my goatee is mixed with reddish and blonde hairs but its mostly black, but in those patches i have velus hairs so who knows, maybe by 25 ill have a beard similar to jack molloco
Personally I've never met my dad so I have no idea if he can grow a beard, and my grandad and uncle on my mum's side never grew out their beard, always been clean shaven.
Very interesting stuff here. My dad being more Native American than I, has a very sparse beard. I don't think I've ever seen him without just a soul patch and/or chin hair. I'm very patchy too but I was able to grow a long full beard after a year. So I guess it's more than just genes or maybe I'm just luckier.
I know very little about my father but all I know is I got my beard from him or someone on his side lol my hair on the other hand I'm praying it's like my grandfather(my mothers dad) that man is 79 years old and has a full head of beautiful thick hair
Now this was an interesting video that I wish more people talked about. I personally have a father who can grow a great beard with basically full coverage and his mustache in particular is very thick. My beard however, is decent but the connectors are weak and my mustache is much much thinner than my fathers. On top of that, he is nearly 60 with a full head of hair and I am in my 20s with advanced balding. So it’s safe to say I got the balding gene from my moms side which makes me think I must have also gotten my facial hair pattern mostly from my moms side as well. Although none of my uncles on that side nor my grandpa ever grew their facial hair out so I cannot confirm that.
While people have said otherwise, I look just like my father with my mother's skin tone. This includes the beard growth pattern. Curiously, while people have confused my brother and I as twins (in spite of being four years apart,) we have different growth patterns.
I have an okay mustache, good sideburns, and okay chin. I have hairs across my face but I don't know if they're going to fill out at all. My brother grows a beard but my dad only grows a lock, and a really good one. Should I try products or something ? (I'm 18 by the way.)
My father is in his 50s and has a weak pattern, he's never actually grown even a moustache meanwhile I'm 21 and have almost full beard - cheeks are still kinda weak - there are no terminal hair, at least not yet :p (I'm blonde)
I got my grandpas and dads facial were all Latinos with bright red beards Im only 19 and able to grow a beard but my dad and grandpa had to wait till 23
My dad and my grandpa grows a full beard but I can only grow mustache and chin and on my cheeks but it doesn’t connect but yet again I’m 18 and I started growing facial hair when I was 14 going on 15

my beard lines are the same of my father's but his mustache is bigger than mine. But i have a friend that his dad has a Full Beard and my friend don't have nothing of Beard.
I could still see skin on your cheeks. I’m on my 9th week and still see skin on my cheeks. I notice it more under bright lighting. I’ve watched a Buoncristiano video at 2 months and he too had a little skin showing. So I’m hoping these patches fill in.
my genetic seems a bit odd… i look exactly like my father and have the same body type, BUT i have thicker beard than him… i am pale compared to him (apparently color from my mom) and i have one brown one orange eye ( all of my family members have green eyes) .. both parents from Bulgaria with greek roots, my mom pale and curly hair, my dad darker and straight hair…and im pale with straight hair and messed up eye color haha

I look almost exactly like my father, the difference is that I have more coverage when it comes to facial hair in my early 20's than he has in his mid 50's.
You took your beard genes from your mother's side maybe ? How old are you ?
@@canotajman Did you notice changes in terms of density or thickness, now that you turned 25 compare to your early twenty ? ( i mean 22-23)
BRO how does your beard grow so quick?!?! I literally shaved around the same time as you and your beard is already full!
I ask myself the same thing
Hey Greg, do you know when your beard started to get the gray and silver texture?
My beard is a mixture of my mom dads and my paternal grandma side of the family pattern is like maternal grandfather and thickness and texture is like paternal grandma side of the family and slowly still filling in at late 30s
My grandad was homeless and didn’t shave and people used to call him Father Christmas huge beard and myself can grow such a beard very interesting
Greg’s videos are the BEST.
You look fabulous, Greg! Thank you for your inspiration!
I 100% get my facial hair growth from my mother's side of the family
My father and I have nearly identical straight full beards. But, my father has male pattern baldness. I still have a full head of hair in my late forties.
My Dad and I are very similar. Espcially beard and hair. Great insight. Thank you for sharing.
I've had a full beard since I was 18, Norwegian Generics . American born. Also my dad never grew a beard.
My father has thicker Fuller beard but I didn't get it what is the reason for that
Me and my dad grandfather and great grandfather, have very similar faces/ facial structure as well as body size/type, but we all have very different facial hair patterns. I think theres no rhyme or reason, every family is different.
This should become a series!
My uncle has a steel wire beard and moustache and always kept it very short from what I saw.
I have the best beard in my family, everyone else can only really grow side burns/goatees
How do you style your hair like that. Growing out my beard and my hair. Especially at medium length can't really get my hair to stay in shape. It's probably a bit shorter than yours but not too much
My dad has a very strong mustache but very weak sides like your dad , i at age 20 allready outgrow him in ways of my beard.
Do you think gray beard hair grows faster? Mine is about half gray half dark brown and the grays are definitely winning at week 8.
Woah. Your great grandfather looks exactly like you. That’s amazing
Best men’s channel on youtube
Been growing mine out for 3 months now. Getting pretty wild looking for places in Atlanta for a trim
Very interesting video Greg. Cheers!
Greg doing great in his beard growing progress
Gregg I don't know whether it's me, the lighting or what, but your moustache seems darker! Than the one you had previously! 😮
I know very little about my father but all I know is I got my beard from him or someone on his side lol my hair on the other hand I'm praying it's like my grandfather(my mothers dad) that man is 79 years old and has a full head of beautiful thick hair
There are people that say your beard is determinated by your mother's family genetics. I don't know if that's true though
Great video!
Glad you enjoyed it!

Ayyo greg ur 3 month old beard is about 1 1/2 inches which is 38 millimeters bro!
My dad and my grandpa grows a full beard but I can only grow mustache and chin and on my cheeks but it doesn’t connect but yet again I’m 18 and I started growing facial hair when I was 14 going on 15
A very Valuble video
I think your beard is actually stronger after the clean shave or it's because you haven't been trimming it at all.
I think your beard has grown back better and looks more even in color. Keep it growing! I think cutting it Of was good but I don’t think you were happy without it at all..haha sometimes restarts are good but no need to make habit of it !! Keep growing! Go big
my father have full beard even my brothers have full beard..... but I have very less cheek hair....
my beard lines are the same of my father's but his mustache is bigger than mine.
My father got his beard at 22 but I got mine full at 17
My dad and my brother and myself have red in ours
Ik I'm gonna love this series
my genetic seems a bit odd… i look exactly like my father and have the same body type, BUT i have thicker beard than him… i am pale compared to him (apparently color from my mom) and i have one brown one orange eye ( all of my family members have green eyes) .. both parents from Bulgaria with greek roots, my mom pale and curly hair, my dad darker and straight hair…and im pale with straight hair and messed up eye color haha
