What for video camcorder with night vision would you recommend I was looking on Amazon I’m talking about one that I can afford less than $200. Walmart has one I don’t know if it’s night vision or not for $189 could you let me know what you recommend thanks
that's really weird as I mentioned before, you had that drastic temp change and now we are having a chance cold snap starting early today the wind is forecast to die down and tomorrow shld b a good day
Love seeing Oklahoma deer on your channel! Make a trip down to the Crosstimbers WMA southwest of Ardmore sometime! I'll be more than happy to help you guys out with packing in or out and filming if you need some extra hands.
yes we did have a great time in creation we saw Doe's and I had 2 run under my stand and minutes later I heard a shot about 600 yards away my neighbor shot a nice little 6 pt that wld have ended up going bye the difference is I wld have let him grow another year or two o like to wait til my deer are four and older but others can't do that
tomorrow is a double header so to speak in vt of course veterans day and it's the rifle season opener shld be a great season for my son and myself we have several bucks on cam and that we have seen but not had in range for a bow so anxious to see what happens in the deer woods
Growing deer team, how do you feel about Missouri's rifle season being in the rut? I believe strongly that moving rifle season back until December would do alot of good for the Missouri herd. What do you guys think?
We would selfishly enjoy a rifle season outside of the rut so that we could hold more mature bucks on the property during the rifle season. Very unlikely this cultural activity will ever change though. -Daniel
For small food plots, I would focus on fall blends. Cereal rye (not rye grass), radishes, turnips, winter wheat and crimson clover is a great blend. If you want and orly season attraction you can also add soybeans and buckwheat to the blend! -Daniel
Kevin Hamilton short grunts and rattle bags. Scents are good 2 maybe a little dominant buck on a scrape or doe in heat on a rope tied to your boot as you walk in.

Ceasar, they are the Alpha Burley Pros from LaCrosse Footwear! You can find out more about them here: www.lacrossefootwear.com/men/hunt/boots/?sortId=product-family I hope you are having a great season! -Daniel
Hey Grant, do y'all ever rattle? If so what phase do you have the most success in when rattling. I've had some success with rattling but I'm definitely no expert.
We rarely rattle. There is a lot of movement tied with rattling. We would much rather grunt than rattle. However, studies show that rattling long and loud has the best response out of any sequence. -Daniel
I hunt on a property my family has had since the 70s its in the mtns and a lot of deer have moved to the fields at the bottom of the mtn. We went hunting on opening weekend and only saw 7 deer in total I saw a real nice 8 point on Saturday but I couldn’t get a shot on him because he was chasing a doe, a family friend was lucky enough to see him Sunday morning and get a great shot on him and he only ran about 35 yards.
Bucks only reuse traditional rubs (rubs that have been used year after year). I use such traditional rubs to locate travel corridors and staging areas (areas deer frequent). I rarely place a stand or blind specifically to hunt a rub. I often use a pencil (leaves no scent) to mark the rub. Then on a later visit I can easily tell if the rub has been reused.
honestly in vermont it's hard to find good mature bucks where I hunt me my son and a few other guys are trying to manage the herd and let bucks mature but all over the state most of our hunters will pull the trigger at the first legal buck in front of them I guess that's where my patience and discipline comes to play o can shoot a doe or two during bow and wait for a bigger buck during rifle
Dear Mr. Woods, My name is Luke I'm from North Carolina we have a cold front this weekend ,from what I here the rut is in full swing. Is there anyway you could do a video on some tips and tactics for this time of year? Thanks for all of your videos God bless!
We went on a draw-in hunt last weekend, we came across several deer but one in particular stood out. It was a very large bodied deer that had large antlers as well, as it got closer I realized. It was missing one side of its rack completely and it was kind of limping. I was never able to take a shot, but I was just curious what might have happened. Could this have been because he was fighting another buck? Or maybe he fell down a Rocky Ridgeline? I would love some information. Thanks in advance.
It is hard to say. He could have broken the antler and gotten the injury during a fight. It is also possible that he was hit by a car. Whitetails are very tough critters. -Daniel
Many states create their hunting seasons based on biology. By the time season opens most fawns are fully functioning ruminants and will be fine without the doe. -Daniel
Which state are you in? You mentioned pines. Are you in a southern state? Eagle Seed has three varieties that do well in the southern states. You can find them at www.eagleseed.com/forage.html -Daniel
Sorry, for the delay. We've used Eagle Seed's Wildlife Managers blend in thinned rows among pines with great success! I really like planting the thinned rows in pines!! These plots are a great uses of land and are very easy to hunt! grant
I shot a buck at 15 yards in a ground blind the deer just took off running, I went to where I shot and all I found was some hair. I thought I missed them my cusion found the arrow and it was a clean pass through blood all over the arrow. I found not blood trail until about a 1/4 of a mile away on the edge of a still stand corn field I was able to follow the blood trail for about an other 1/4 mile the it just Disappeared. I smelled the arrow and it did not have a smell of like a gut shot. On my blood ring it had a creamy pink color and the Fletching was bright red blood. I never found the deer my fear is I Wounded a deer and for no reason it eats me up knowing I hit a deer but can't find it. I'm a person with some Physical disability and I can get to some place real easy.
Brian, trailing deer can be difficult and it sounds like you did a great job. I am sorry you were unable to find the deer. It is possible that it may make it. Deer are very tough critters and can pull through a lot. If you have trail cameras out, keep an eye out for it. it may show back up! -Daniel
Just to let u know I’m a big fan and would love to film a hunt I have camera equipment it would be great if I could film for u guys here in Wisconsin or join team
GrowingDeer.tv yes to see what they look like & so I know what to look for if I want to buy some. You advertise the G5 but you say look how this broad head did it’s job.
Sam, long distance shots are very risky with deer. They will often react and injury can occur. We take shots 40 yards or less. There are times we even pass 40 yard shots (if the deer is tense). Better to pass and make a great shot next time than a marginal shot. -Daniel
It is just part of our management plan here at The Proving Grounds. Many of our young bucks are better than the average deer in the area due to the intense habitat management we have done. -Daniel
Nice shots on the yote and your doe Grant, this was a good episode. I tagged my first doe of the year , on my first hunt of the year, Tuesday evening, with my bow. Big mature doe. Grant, on your coyote, if you guys have too many deer, why are you still pressuring the coyote population? Not trying to be a smart alec but it makes sense to me to back off on the predator hunting if you guys aren't able to meet your population control objectives. Just asking because I've backed off on the coyotes here for that very reason and wondering if my approach lacks enough thought.
Brent because they multiply like rabbits you let one live now that one has 2 pups then you dont kill those ... i think you get the point. We have a disgusting coyote problem. 73 pound coywolf was taken right behind a gun range.
Coyote also predate on other species like turkeys. Coyotes have the potential to remove up to 60% they quickly impact the herd and it can be hard to catch up. The best plan is to be proactive and control predator and prey numbers. Coyotes will move in so intensive trapping is needed yearly. -Daniel
Do you guys apply any science to your predator/prey goals? Do you study any population numbers, predator/prey ratios or do you just kind of kill all the predators you can and theorize you're doing what's needed? Our turkey and deer populations here (We are one of the farms you featured in an episode a couple years ago) that the predator population seems too low to impact them much. We had another very good fawn and poult year again this year. Deer mowed off 60 acres of late beans for me like it was a quarter acre. On top of having feeders and 40 acres of food plots.
Use this to skip the intro: ua-cam.com/video/MdQI8-xm3mI/v-deo.htmlm7s

Went bow hunting for my first buck today passed a few little 6 pointers looking for a good one
Neat! We wish you a very blessed season! Keep us updated! -Daniel
My dad is a veterinarian he served for the navy
Neat!. Please thank him for us for his service. -Daniel
Ok thanks
Love you videos keep up the great work
Thanks Konner! -Daniel
Here in Oklahoma what are some good foods to plant on plots
For small food plots, I would focus on fall blends. Cereal rye (not rye grass), radishes, turnips, winter wheat and crimson clover is a great blend. If you want and orly season attraction you can also add soybeans and buckwheat to the blend! -Daniel

What do y'all do with the dead deer y'all find, especially bucks? Do y'all move them and cut the antlers off or what?
We don't find many. Coyotes and vultures can eat them quickly! If it is a buck we remove and keep the angels. -Daniel
Hey Grant, do y'all ever rattle? If so what phase do you have the most success in when rattling. I've had some success with rattling but I'm definitely no expert.

You are right, trigger control is a big part of managing older age class deer. -Daniel
I think it is ungrateful to go to school on Veterans Day so I always get out of school that day and go hunting with my papaw. He was in Vietnam.
Thank him for his service! We are truly blessed for all those that have served in the past and serving currently! -Daniel
Please thank my dad for being a Marine
Ayden, Please thank your dad for us! We are very grateful for his service! -Daniel
Hi growing deer
Hey Danny!! -Daniel
Dear Mr. Woods, My name is Luke I'm from North Carolina we have a cold front this weekend ,from what I here the rut is in full swing. Is there anyway you could do a video on some tips and tactics for this time of year? Thanks for all of your videos God bless!
The rut is on! You can find rut hunting techniques in this video! www.growingdeer.tv/#/hunting-the-rut-whitetail-strategies -Daniel
hey guys we ended up not tagging a buck on the first weekend but we are going to be working on it
Rats. I bet you had a great time in creation though! -Daniel
Do any of you use Doe urine or anything like that during the rut

I do too
We do not. -Daniel

GrowingDeer.tv Oh I didn't think about that, thank you for the information!
What happens when you find dead deer that you didn't shoot? Do you keep the antlers and such?
We have to get permission from local DNR to pick-up. So...call it in, get permission and - yes, we can keep the antlers.
GrowingDeer.tv that's awesome but sad at the same time.
What are your thoughts on shooting a doe if it has a fawn with it? Does the fawn need the doe?
Austin Barber only if it has spots. Thats what i go by. If it doesn’t and clearly looks like a coyote can kill it i might think other wise.
Many states create their hunting seasons based on biology. By the time season opens most fawns are fully functioning ruminants and will be fine without the doe. -Daniel
OK how do I go look at that stuff for a good plot
Which state are you in? You mentioned pines. Are you in a southern state? Eagle Seed has three varieties that do well in the southern states. You can find them at www.eagleseed.com/forage.html -Daniel
