    Small correction (thanks to tauKhan):
    “Character to character ‘collisions’ don't use ECBs at all, they’re done purely by positional distance.
    For instance, bowser ‘push width’ = 8.0Mm, yoshi ‘push width’ = 3.3Mm. Which means bowser & yoshi will push each other when within 11.3Mm.”

    I had no idea about the 9 frame update timer but it explains a lot. A while back I was making a game with dropthrough platforms that had that exact issue with the player snapping back onto the platform because the collision box on the player changed and it took me forever to fix it. This is the exact kind of simple hacky quick fix that I was looking for lol

    there's an ascending platform warp fox can do on bf easily by
    sh>wait > dj nair enemy on side plat
    for a particular timing of the dj and nair your ecb will warp to the ground, and you go from having positive y velocity from the dj to grounded.

    Excellent, very informative video. I've only done this a few times as Marth and knew what it was, but could never recreate it (maybe with this video's help but I probably still suck too much). Always love this kind of in-depth melee content, your channel is a true gem.

    Just wanna put it out there that the slideoff platcancel is also referred to as a pseudo-platform cancel at least enough for me to know that term, so yea. Good video.
    Also pseudo-plat cancel works since you fall off the plat with 0 speed, whereas platdrop starts with a set speed down to start off with, to explain why it's such a wider window

      Yeah I guess I figured the term pseudo-platform cancel only referred to walking off the side of a plat with that small control stick range, so I wanted a new term that encapsulated the more general “falling off the side of a plat instead of falling through one”

    Great explanation! I vouch to call them drop cancels consistently though. You cancel your drop, not the platform.
    Also platform cancel is confused with other things like platform warp and NILs.

    These also exist in PM, and in that game if you do one out of being hit on your shield there seems to be a wider window and thus more moves that cab work. Does that also happen in melee, and do you know why if so?
    Also in PM we call these drop cancels because there are several other things that people call platform cancels

      Maybe getting hit on shield causes your ECB to stretch upwards? That or maybe PM has a lot more shield pushback, causing a lot more accidental slide-off drop cancels. Or maybe the shield DI is a lot more lenient, which could cause people to accidentally shift themselves and their shield closer to the ledge while inputting shield drops.

      P+ fixed the hit out of sheild.
      That happened coz brawl has mechanic where if you are in knockback, certain momentum commands no longer act to try to prevent momentum cancels. This meant the extra downwards momentum that a platdrop gives didn't happen out of shield pushback, making it approx equal to the walk off plat varient.

    another way to fall of the plat is that while you are in the middle of your teter animation you can do a dashback and you will fall with no aerial drift allowing you to do the platform warp

      this means you can do it off of a wavedash to the edge a plat to go into a teeter then pressing back allowing you to instant drop

      Unless I'm not understanding you, I don't believe this is true (just tested it with a few characters). If an opponent is next to you while you turn around, though, then yes you will fall off, as described at 4:35

      Some characters’ ECBs extend higher than others, allowing for more leniency.
