  • Time again for the private pilot checkride maneuvers. I do these every 3 months because I read "The Killing Zone" that documents how quickly private pilots lose these skills.
    I will do this again by Nov 30, 2022. Anyone who catches me not having redone these maneuvers and published a video about it by that date will be entered into a giveaway.

    NIce practice work there. I try to go out and practice these things about 1 in every 3 flights I do.

    I like the idea so practice the maneuvers every three months to help with proficiency. I will add that to my flying schedule once I get my private pilot. Right now I am learning them.

    Well done. If someone is watching in prep for their checkride, be sure to read the ACS. Recovery from both stalls needs to be at Vy or Vx not an arbitrary climb

    Great video as usual. You make those steep turns look easy.
    I sure hope I got that maneuver down by Thursday. Although I think weather is going to mess up my check ride.
    Top on my list after the certificate is coming down your way.

    Nice! Thanks for sharing. That makes a great review for my upcoming PPL check ride. Also, I think that's a great idea to practice the PPL maneuvers every 3 months.

      Thanks! Highly recommend reading "The Killing Zone" after you finish your checkride. If for no other reason than to know what kinds of things have really gotten other pilots into trouble.

    Soft field takeoff wasn't bad, the planes going to wallow after all, you forced it into the air! Doesn't have to be pretty, just safe!

      Agree. It may be safe, but I still can't count it as "good" if it isn't also pretty.

    On the short field take-off, I thought you need to stay in ground effect until you get an increasing airspeed of of a least 65 and increasing.

      I have that backwards with the short field. It should be the soft field.

      Yes. But those are very difficult to capture on film without an external camera. I've tried before and it just looks like me flying.

      My airplane's annual and the current persistent afternoon thunderstorms have put a real damper on instrument training. I've only had one lesson in the last 2 months. I've currently got a bunch scheduled through the end of September so hopefully I'll be able to get back to it soon.

    If your power on stall is meant to reflect a departure stall, shouldn't it be performed with full power?
