I have known Alex for many years, and well before his native bee endeavour - In fact I may have introduced him to native bees as I had a wild colony in a Besser brick retaining wall for many years. Now I currently have 2 Spicers Hollow hives at my house and plan to have another 2 units in the near future
Hi Nick, Can you please forward this questions to Alex. Alex, how do you combat moisture within the hive. I see hives that are made completely from PVC foam sheets and it is often mentioned that a timber cut out is added to help control moisture. How do you deal with excess moisture in the hive OR is this not a issue that you personally see and happy with PVC foam for the full exterior. Thanks
Hi mate. Yes there can be some moisture issues with the full pvc hives. That's no secret in the industry. However, despite this, I have only seen healthy colonies in those hives in my personal experience with them. My hives are totally different. Think of them like the house you live in. They have outer cladding, then a wall of insulation, then a inner cladding. The outside is not the inside and visa versa unlike every other hive out there. We have not experienced any moisture issues at all with this style of hive and we don't expect to. Keep in mind that all hives have moisture inside. Only the amount varies due to insulation and local climatic conditions. Cheers, Alex.

Hello Nick. Is the induction / seduction method simply connecting a hive with a new box and flying bees through?
You've got a good ethical outlook, nice to see it 🤙🦘
Does the carpenter have bees himself it would be nice to have a demonstration and he's on box design
