Makes sense. As someone who’s had three ACL knee reconstructions, they always get you training calves as one of the first things in your rehab.

Always believed this even before the research, just makes sense from a structural standpoint to strengthen/condition/stretch ALL the surrounding muscles near a joint.

Thanks for the video. I've had osteoarthritis in my knees and my hips the last couple of years and training legs has really helped. I was told squats and anything to build the glues helps with the knees and so far it has. I will be doing more calf work from now on. Thanks again for the video.

I’ve torn 4 acl’s in left knee, along with mcl, pcl, cartilage, dislocated patella. Still no intact acl in left knee. First one torn over 20 years ago. Just this year learned that the only thing that has helped has been working calves, hamstrings and squatting with a vertical shin.

  • @bobbyCruiser

    Absolutely agree.
I take bits and pieces from different people and in this case the knees over toe guy. I do a raise where you leaned over and put hands on the wall - then do raises. Then do them vertically. You can do them both on a smith too once you build up the leaning over one.
Also working tibs and hip flexors (reverse squat) and of course the sled walking backwards it’s awesome.

Interesting, I wonder if my hamstring cramps / sciatic nerve pain comes from me not training calves. I was born with huge calves. I mean HUGE. So I never bothered much with them. I trained them maybe 8 times in my life. I'm gonna start training them and see what happens.
