My cat just eats the pill straight from my hand because he thinks it's a treat haha
Mine is the same, I give her some treat then a pill and then treat and she won't even notice. :D
Lucky son of a gun😂
I was about to ask you to trade cats, but then I realized I still wouldn't trade mine for anything in the world 😊❤️
life goal: get a girl that looks at you the way Mr. Pirate looks at da vet.
Life goal: find a man that treats me the way Dr Burstyn treats his cats.
I ship this relationship! Make it happen guys!
@kyros meet @wendy
That look Mr. Pirate gives the camera
My aunt had to give her cat a course of antibiotics once and he was very good about taking every. One day she pulls the couch out from against the wall to vacuum under it and she finds every single one of the pills she gave him deposited under the couch! He'd keep it hidden in his mouth until he had a moment to discreetly chuck it under there.
That’s a shoulder cat if I’ve ever seen one. He is staring right at that shoulder.
Austin Lane there's another video on this channel about how to pick up a cat, and there's a reason this lil dude is called Mr Pirate. Highly recommend it, very cute and funny as well as being informative. Claudia the cat is also very cute.
My cat hated pills. But, if I got the cheese from the fridge, and grated a little, accidentally on purpose dropping ONE cheese sliver on the floor, then pretended to try to beat the cat to it, he gleefully snarfed it up and waited for more. After a short time pretending to grate more cheese, I would drop the pill and try to recover it. He always (obviously!) beat me to it, and snarfed it down. He never even knew he had been fooled. He did usually get another sliver of cheese after. I don't know how well it would work with a cat who didn't always try to steal my cheese sandwiches.
Awwww..... hope he made off with at least a few over the years!
lol this is so cute
Hilarious! Animals can really make you laugh at times. They do so many cute and funny things.
This wouldn't work on mine, she loves food but always sniffs it before eating
Oh, LOL, so hilarious!!!
All i see is a magician doing his trick. Flawless
I don't even own a cat
Nobody owns a cat.
You're a worm
The cat owns you.
Cats own us
“Give you a high five” = scratch you to death?
Its all a matter of perspective.
😂😂😂
I love how in the beginning mr. pirate's eyeing on ur shoulder
Plague Genie, that is so cute isn't it. It looks as though he is waiting for permission.
When the piller demonstration started, I could see Pirate thinking, "But I already did this today!"
The world has been introduced to a perfect gentleman. Thank you, Internet, and Dr. Yuri.
cat box cleaner, I often feel that the sexiest and most gentle men are cat men and the most active are dog men.
from 1:41-1:45 Mr. Pirate looks at his owner/Dr. just like: "I know you've been taken good care of me. I love you, too"
My vet told me to practice giving a pill every day when hes young with a small piece of food so that when he gets old had has to take pills he is used to and won't have any problems
You move your hands like a magician. Very smoothly
naly202, ha ha. That's why cat men are sexier than dog men!
“Do I get three breakfasts now?”
So I've been giving pills to my cats for years. And when I say this I mean I've tried EVERYTHING to get my cats to take their pills. Putting them in food, pill pouches, crushing them into powder and mixing into food and that greasy hairball stuff.... nothing worked. I was lucky if HALF of the medicine went into My cats.
This worked. They were NOT happy but the whole pill went in. Now if they don't barf it up on my pillow while I'm at work I'll be ecstatic!!!
Thank you !!!!!!!
Very happy to hear it! Thank you for watching :-)
@@HelpfulVancouverVet they kept the pills down!
You are awesome!!!!
Thank you!!!
Oh by the way ....my new avatar is my fur baby girl BatKatt.
And that is her general attitude.
I think I like watching your videos just to watch you handle your cats...such warm and loving relationships.
Thank you!
I want to cuddle Mr. Pirate!!
What a nice cat!
Steve Giacolini a Sweetheart 😻
Mr pirate is so sweet! And he really does love shoulders!
This was such a huge help. My hubby use to take care of things like this but now hes in heaven an its up to me.
Thank u for such a great tutorial ♡
Been using this method with my cats for years, and it always works like a charm. I use butter with the pills, since it sorta' lubes 'em up and makes them go down a little more smoothly. I'll also usually reward with a treat of some sort as well, just for the extra positive connection with pill times.
ComicallyMacabre -I did that too right after I pilled my cat.It was funny because right after I pilled her she would run away then com right back for her treat!
Dude, you have some Mr. Rogers ASMR stuff going on! Your voice is gold! 🐱
The trust of your cats in you is so deep. I can see that. Awesome video! ♥
I love this cat he is just so cute
Annie Ganeva, I have rarely ever met a cat that wasn't cute. I even enjoy taking in the troubled ones. The are very much like humans who, once given a good home, will turn out well even if they came from a bad home originally, although a few may always be fearful of cuddling or trusting humans too much.
One time a cat owner dropped her cat off at my house while she was on vacation with her boyfriend, warning me that the cat was dirty and often peed on the bed. The cat was clean as could be when I got her. Sometimes cats do pee on a bed to try to tell you they are very uoset about something. After all, how else can they express this?
Turned out the cat was very jealous of, or scared of her boyfriend, who may have mistreated it behind her back. So watch for those warning signs that such boyfriends will always try to hide from you of course.
Love this channel, glad I found it. My 19 year old Bubba Cat was hard to give a pill, but I used the couch so he wouldn't back up. Sadly he's gone now and I miss him so much! But on a happier note, I've rescued a 3-4 year old girl who is settling in just fine.
Cheers, :-)
I'm so in love with this cat. The sheer adoration in his looks and behavior, and the way he's always eager in each video to gently climb onto your shoulder, are so endearing!
I have a very tempermental kitty who needed meds and I was terrified of how she'd react. Your video actually made me feel like it I could do it though, and I did! It took 4 tries, but she got the first pill down and has already forgiven me. Thank you SO much for the encouraging explanation. Now just 13 more pills to go ...
Mr Pirate is so adorable im obsessed
Don't know, looks like the cat was a paid actor!
This video comes years too late for me :-) But at least I now know what I was doing wrong the whole time: Instead of standing behind, I was standing in front of my cat. Also not pointing her head upwards but trying to pry her mouth open from the side. Thank you for this precious lesson.
Giving my cat her pill every morning and evening was frustrating for me and for her equally. I would often find pills in corners or on the carpet where she had spat them out unnoticed. I was happy when her medication was changed to a liquid, and she actually loved it.
Unfortunately, she died of cancer two and a half months ago, rejoining her two elder playmates in Cat Heaven.
But I am sure there will be new cats in my life sooner or later, and when I will have to administer pills again, I will refer to your tips.
I also noticed something very important: You have to be as calm and relaxed as possible yourself while giving the pill. Human anxiety, stress and frustration spread to the cat and will make it feel anxious itself.
Can you do a tutorial on how to get a cat into a carrier when they have to go to the vet
Yes! It is on my to do list :-).
I’ve found that it’s best to find em sleeping, scoop em up and point them head first into the carrier. When they try to wiggle out of your grasp, they’ll wiggle into the carrier and you’re good to go!
That would be great!. Thanks doc.
When I had my cats I used to find, leave the carriers in the room for a day or 2 before you need them in, gets the cats used to them. Put their toys in, so they can go in and out and play in them. Breeds familiarity and non-threatening. Then at the time I needed them in, I don't force them or push them in, I show them some cheese (their favourite food, put it right in at the back of the carrier, then let them walk in to eat and close door behind them. It worked fine every time.
I also think you can buy top loading carriers now which are a bit easier to set them in. With all things cat, I think it's about making the experience non-threatening, quiet and calm as possible so they relate it to a positive/neutral event. Also, first vet visit should just be a check, no procedure again to link the experience in the cat carrier as appositive/neutral one. If every time they get in the car/pet carrier there's a "bad outcome" they will become wise to it
If I leave the carriers out for them to familiarize them, they’ll end up peeing in there. Even if I leave a few treats or a bit of nip inside. 😹🤔
Thank you so much! Last time my husband and I tried to give my cat a pill we ended up disheveled and the cat went unmedicated. The part about holding up their chin was clutch! Thank you thank you!!!
The world needs more vet like you! This makes me miss my cat so bad.
This dude is the Bob Ross of cats
Thanks so much for that video. We've been struggling like hell to give pills to our cat. We tried with the tutorial of other videos, but the 'lifting her head up for the mouth to open' was the perfect trick! We successfully fed her pills in the first try with this technique!
Squish That Cat!
you are so peaceful and loving with your cat that I actually enjoy watching you petting Mr Pirate
Such a wonderful gentle man--and his method worked!!!
Thank you! I subscribed- not just because your videos are useful (though they are), but because I'm always happier after I've watched one.
Thank you. Fought with a sick cat for months and kept finding pills on the floor in kind of hidden spots so I wouldn’t be sure when it was from. Tried pill pockets, pill poppers, fingers, everything. He was very old and has passed since but I have two healthy cats that this may come in useful if something happens, God forbid.
There is no way MY will ever be that calm!
I’m in favour of calling the cat piller the “caterpillar” :D
Thank you. That was extremely helpful.
What a sweetheart Mr. Pirate is! Very useful video, my 9 year old cat needs a pill every other day. I never thought to put food out for him to help him swallow, I will definitely be trying that. He's a sneaky little guy and will hide the pill in his mouth, I have to keep his mouth closed until I see him visibly swallow.
I'm convinced that you're a magician. My cats are never ever that still and peaceful. We'lll keep practicing.
I don’t have a cat but I watch all your videos because they are somehow very satisfying
@Helpful Vancouver Vet Thank you for this video. You are such a calming veterinarian and Pirate was a great "demo" cat.
4:29 Wow! that was smooth! Last time I had to do that, we required three people to hold my cat, and even then we ended up scratched and bitten. We tried to break the pill and mix with meat, but he would just spit it out because his senses are just too sharp.
I'm very glad your channel is trending. Hopefully as many pet owners as possible will find it
Thank you so much! Only took me one shot with my new kitten!!
Took me a while, but I figured this out the hard way with experience. My cats love the back up technique to try and get out of my grasp.
Thank you! 💕
My cat is a little bit a talker and has some attitude but it works just fine!
Great advice there: It's very important to get the pill wet before so you don't hurt the throat! (I use water and the method he mentioned. :3)
Thank you so much for this. Im moving in a couple weeks and my boy Noah has horrible anxiety with traveling, new places and such. My vet gave him anxiety meds to make this transition a bit easier on him. I had NO idea how to give him his pill. Thank you sooo soo much
He can squish that cat, deepthroat that cat with tablets, and that cat still friendly :O
thank you dr. yuri! I just used this method for the first time on my 14 year old cat who has a gnarly upper respiratory infection. it was really as simple as you described! even with a wiggly kitty.
My cat loves dry food. I think I might practice with dry food now that she's healthy so she will already know the procedure when she's sick. She gets aggressive sometimes, I'm always happy for ways to reduce stress for both of us.
Great video. I wish we had doctors like you here in India. Keep sharing the knowledge. It can save someone's life.
And I'm in love with your cat. Such a well behaved baby. Beautiful.
These videos are relaxing.
This is suuuper helpful! Thanks.
Way to go Pirate, you're such a good boy💙💙💙
A good and patient boy!!
I had developed a technique, and it worked many times, but now my cat seems to know how to react, so that it doesn’t work anymore. I will try now so like you show here. Thank you for your videos, they are very clear, informative and full with love to these little partners of us.
I love this vet...thank you so much for these videos
I learned something today. It's all about positioning. Will try this next time my cat needs her meds. Thank You!
For me this worked on the first go. Thank you, total game changer for me and my cats.
3:57 Mr. Pirate: "Ah shit, here we go again..."
Love these videos! Mr. Pirate is such a cutie, what a little chunk!
I have a cat who just loves his medication.
I have to give it to him every day at 6:00PM, at 5:30PM he alredy shows up, I just put the pill on the table and he jumps on it to eat it.
You deserve a million subs. Such great videos.
If only I had a cat as willing, cooperative and calm as your sweet Mr. Pirate! You make it look so easy... It’s almost comical when I try it. I can give my diabetic cat his insulin shots with my eyes closed, but the idea of having to pill any of my five cats??? I need a tranquilizer first myself. Maybe now that I’ve watched you and Mr. Pirate, *MAYBE* I can do it to. You give me confidence.😃
He's such a good little boy, he doesn't even run away after 😭
Thanks! What a beautiful, mellow cat Mr Pirate is!
You are so kind, and your videos are super informative! Keep up the great work and make more!😃👍🏻
Mr. PIRATE ist so lieb!
The cat piller is a wonderful thing. Pop! Follow with a treat.
I prefer transdermal if it will work.
Dear doctor, thank you so much for making these videos! They are so useful!
Mr. Pirate is so so handsome! If you have not already, could you do a video about declawing? I work at an animal shelter and I still get plenty of questions about declawing! It is kind of hard for me to believe that people would still do it, but I realize for many it is from lack of thoughtfulness and education about their feline friends. Your platform would be a great educational tool on the issue.
Thanks for the helpful video! You have very good assistants too
You are awesome! Thanks for the video!
I have the opposite experience with most of my cats. They will get the pill back up no matter how long their chins are turned up, but putting it in some food is fast and easy.
i have never been able to pill my cat, even using a piller. it looks easy on the vid, but this cat has been doing it for years.
This is the cutest cat pilling video ive watched
useful stuff ! you really have a nice cat
Sueprb!!!! Loved the idea! My cat fidgets so much it's impossible to give him anything. But this dipping in fav food thing helped a lot! Thanks!!
Aww, I love Mr. Pirate.
Pill Pocket treats are also very easy, as I discovered today. Break it into about 4 or 5 pieces, coat a pill in one of the pieces, and bam, let the cat eat all the pieces normally. May not work with larger pills, but my kitty boy did just fine with it today. So happy.
Mr. Pirate is GORGEOUS! And so well-behaved! He just sits there waiting for the video to proceed. LOVE it! I can easily pill all my cats except one - Pumpkin. His tongue seems to go the entire length of his throat since he can get that pill back out of his mouth no matter how far back I place it. He has IBD as well :-( Even the pill popper won't do the trick. It's quite comical to watch. I videoed it once because I couldn't believe how many tries it took us. Thanks for the video, doc!!
Love ur presentation as well as topics! 9 times out of 10 u make me at least smile, if not laugh outright and I ALWAYS learn from u! Thank u so much! 😸😻
im glad i got this channel randomly recommended to me because this video is useful to me. i have a pill i need to feed to my cats and one ate it no problem when it was hidden in some food but the other one is not having it lmao.
Once again thank you so much for another wonderful video :)
Thank you for this video and how kind and loving you are to this cat. I'd definitely bring my cats to you if I were in BC!
Your videos are wonderful - thank you! And your cats are awesome.
Mr. Pirate.....is so kyooot! ^. .^
Great technique.
SQUISH THAT CAT
I just had to start giving my 10-month old kitten pills for some of her issues, and I'm so glad to see this after the fact because it confirms what I've been doing is the most efficient form of giving it to her. I tried to use pill-pockets, but that worked for only 2 days. I look forward to when her issues go into remission and I don't have to give her pills, but until then, this method works awesome for her!
Really great video!! I've always struggled on pilling. No one actually showed me. Thanks so much.
His eyes are just dead set on that shoulder, it's adorable
