Can we talk about how well designed Lunalights are as an archetype? They're new and returning player friendly, buildable pure or splashed, focus on a single mechanic, have simple but strong effects that work well together, teach card economy and card advantage fairly well, and are strong enough to get game wins but rarely ever have to worry about bans, all while perfectly crossing the fusion summon unga bunga of early YGO with modern combo design sensibilities. Absolute slam dunk.

Hopefully, thanks to the rise of Master Duel, we'll be able to see a wider variety of formats with different ban lists crop up at least in the digital space, and possibly in the physical space as well.

Delilah's Diatribe is SO CORRECT. I'm so new to yugioh playing, but especially jumping into master duel and others, there's a clear gap between "decks I like (playing/aesthetically)" and "decks worth investing in meta-wise"
I fell in love at first sight of Mecha Phantom Beasts, but then I found out that their main tuner (O-Lion) was banned because every high-tier synchro-using deck wanted to get their hands on it....
@@givingtree9669 I felt the same way about Metalfoes. Their Link monster was exactly what they needed and more...but before it was so damn good. It broke a ton of other decks and got banned.
We know by data mining that a beginner format is coming soon so that might be the answer, but the TCG needs a Way to create tiers, analogous to MMA weight categories, that way more people can enjoy playing and watching the game.
What I do in my club is build decks that are fairly even in power, based on testing, and only use those decks in random duels. Honestly we live this format. That and drafting cubes.
Luna Lights A.K.A The deck used by one of (if not) the best Anime Yugioh Girl, A.K.A Selena of the fusion dimension. One of the few Yugioh Girls who has the combination of having a good deck, a good win rate, and not needing a male character to save them 24/7.

Old Archetype that hasn't seen the light of day in forever or was underpowered for a while: *Finally gets some Bonkers support*. Meta players: *attempts to break the card in two, eventually resulting in said support getting Limited or banned*. Fans of those older archetypes: Can we just have some good support without you splashing into into your decks and breaking it, *FOR FIVE MINUTES?!*
I advice anyone here who loves Lunalight to read the TCG Event Coverage of Raphael Neven VS Arnold Nadaban, for Chicago in 2019. For me, this guy is the ultimate proof that you CAN win with underrepresented decks, if you work hard and smart, study the meta, and find the strongest strategies that fit into your deck. And you know what's best ? He didn't simply use Lunalight as an engine, he actually played the fusion component because of its high OTK power. First game Neven started second and ended up with a 4 cards hand against a Summon Sorceress, two Colossus, Hot Red Dragon Archfiend Abyss and Zombiestein, and he managed to dismantle the threats little by little while getting the pieces to one shot with Leo Dancer. I usually don't read a lot of tournament coverage but that blew my mind.
thanks for saying that i agree i started duel links and got a good lunalight deck how ever i noticed when i asked in discord servers about it like advice and recommendations everyone disregarded the deck i had And said it was trash and wasn't meta how ever i said screw that that makes me wanna use it more imagine the glory in using a non meta deck and smacking everyone if its not the best ill make it the best someday (sorry sounded like i was boutta go into a whole anime sob story LMAO)
Lunalight remains one of the strongests easy to learn beatdown fusion decks. It's my main deck ever since their release and I will never get tired of OTK'ing my opponents with Double Leo Dancer boosted by Number 60.
Here's a fun tech pick for lunalights: Secrets of the Guardians. A very OP equip spell if you know how to use it. Since both Cat and Panther Dance can attack everything twice this card would be amazing for those 2. As on each attack it gains a spell counter, and each counter gives them 500 ATK/DEF, It's not a once per turn, it can prevent both its own destruction, and the monsters, by giving up just 1 counter, and all together turns any multi-attacker into a power creep fiend. This card worked amazingly well in my Ben'Kei deck.

Because they technically can attack each monster twice, that's 1000 per target. Mean with just one PotG by the end of the BP that +5000. And if they have 2 that's 10000. However you put it lunalights with PotG is a nightmare.
I ABSOLUTELY agree with Delilah. I absolutely hate heheh archetypes good cards get abused by the meta, I don’t care if those good cards don’t make the archetype itself the most meta just them having it is good enough. This also does some terrible stuff for decks like Hero, my main deck, with Mali however in a different way. Because Mali was abused all the time by the meta Konami has gotten to a point where they make hero support WAY TOO FAIR even though they don’t need to. Malicious bane is cool but he can just be spun back to the deck, has a conditional rageki that isn’t even a quick effect and DPE while strong can just be DD crow’d or called by in the grave to stop it entirely, the vision hero cards are too fair which is why Faris, Vyon, and Increase are the only ones used. Mali by itself literally handicapped an entire archetype into not getting what it truly needs to be meta by itself. Also let’s not talk about how Fusion destiny is so easy to just splash into other decks which makes me think Konami outright meant for it to be abused by other decks so it can hurt all hero players when it gets banned from all formats
Personally this is why I am in favor of erratas just give malicious a only summon heroes for the rest of the turn and no more dark warrior combo abuse. Just lock adamancipators into rocks for rest of the turn and with that block dragon could come back

I know people hate Erratas but if a card like Mali is so strong and abusable by other decks to the point they just start making new hero cards extremely fair then I’ll take an Errata locking you into only hero monsters for the rest of the turn so it can only be abused by hero decks themselves
@@streetgamer3452 If adamancipators locked you into only rocks or even if block dragon locked you into Rocks for the rest of your turn not only would it encourage people to actually use the archtype boss monsters a bunch of banned cards can get away even without a hard once per turn by just errata to archtype. Though there are some erratas of locking that are pretty useless if you don't want them to be abused like only earth, only dark or only light.
Dang does this bring back some old memories.... nowadays this is one of my fave middle tier decks in terms of consistency and dang do I love it. Also great job as always Nova!
It’s interesting to note that in Common Charity format, Lunalight is dangerously close to Tier 0. Most Common Charity players play by the TCG Advanced format banlist in addition to the Common-only restriction. This means that if Tiger was ever unbanned, Common Charity would probably become a T0 format with Lunalight sitting squarely on top. At least, unless CC gets its own banlist, which would be awesome to have.
Lunalights are one of my favorite archetypes because of their OTK possibilities and their artwork. I do hope Tiger does come of the banlist to make Lunalights even greater.
Lunalight is my absolute favourite Archetype and i hate it that Tiger got taken from us because of meta bullshit-abuse for material spam. Because Tiger is legal in the OCG i don't have much hope but to get it back in the TCG, Tiger would need some kind of restriction to either lock you into beast-warrior or even lunalight-monsters after using the revival effect.
I absolutely love Lunalights, I just 4 months ago learned how to play Yu-Gi-Oh and I instantly latched onto a pure Lunalight deck. It easily got me to Gold 1 rank on master duel and after a bit of practice I reached through to Platinum 3 before the season ended resetting me at Gold 5
Oh just started up playing again through master duel and Lunalights were the archetype that I managed to pull the rarest cards for and I'm excited to try mixing the other cards mentioned in the video!
11:58 - 12:14 .... T_T amen to that... I hate that so much when that happens. Now so many decks cant function or even exist because Konami didn't future proof their cards to new mechanics, or properly restricting NEW Archetype effects to prevent them from abusing unrelated cards, made links way to generic for having such strong effects, and instead of punishing the over powered meta decks with the Ban List, they instead punish the cards being abused by said decks , severally gimping the decks that needed those archetypal cards to function properly IF AT ALL while the Meta decks just move on to the next most abusable cards to keep doing what they want regardless of what decks they hurt just so they can WIN harder! Atleast until Konami wants to push its next big cash grab by nuking the current meta decks, but neglect to lift the earlier bans caused by the those rampant decks, as the players of said decks just dump them for the next Most Meta thing that gets them as close to a game of Solitaire as possible. (Cause thats the competitive environment Konami created...)
Hilarious enough that Master Duel has Benten and jet synchron unlimited and brilliant fusion at one. Also maxx C is unlimited so that going to be fun to mess with.
Not to mention that Lunalight Tiger and Fire Formation - Tenki are both at 3. Of course, that's mostly because Master Duel is primarily based on an older version of the OCG Banlist, where Tiger has never been on the Forbidden/Limited list. The deck is pretty well kept in check by Maxx "C"
Kaleido chick is like one of the key cards I use in trying to get 2 Leo Dancers out if I have wolf in my hand and 2 other lunalight monster and lunalight fusion or polymerization by sending panther to the grave with kaledio effect then fusion kaleido with 2 other luna light monsters to bring out Leo then set wold in pendulum zone and banish the material and bring out another Leo. Of course my favorite combos usualy incluse primarily perfume and Serenade dance graveyard effect. I just had a game where I was abled to bring out 2 Leo 1 Saber 1 cat geting a OTK with that broken combo. EDIT: also Necro fusion is alot of fun to include in a deck in just one even tho its a slow trap it tends to catch your opponent by surprise when you bring out your boss monster suddenly also can be good at cheezing out a double leo
This is my favorite archetype in the franchise (mainly because they're a Sailor Moon homage) and I've been playing them in Master Duels. Thank you so much for talking about the Lunalights!

You could also use Zoodiacs in the Extra Deck to go into Zeus with 6 materials as long as you end on Boarbow and attack directly for 0, you get Zeus with 2 Lunalights, Hammerkong, Chakanine, Tiger Mortar, Boarbow. Pretty much stops your opponents from having a turn.
I would say it's not coz of Tenki, Tenki barely makes up for those limits. It's that Lunas used to be played with Boxer Veil that Bird and Marten got hit. With Fox I heard it was coz other decks abused her effect. Got Lunas just before the last limit and was so pissed (didn't even got Veil) that I saved up to buy Harpies. Only recently did I got the Tenkis to finally play Lunas properly.
for any one wondering about the space in Luna light perfume its a localisation version of a clause in the Japanese saying something along the lines of "this card is not treated as a lunalight card" meaning this isn't an error it's intentional...
I completely agree with Delilah. There are so many archetypes that lost great cards because some other deck borrowed it and wrecked house. If Konami is going through with the alternate formats, I have a suggestion for one: a “pure-archetype” format. Basically, you classify your deck as one archetype, and you can’t use any cards that support and/or are a part of another archetype, though you can still use generic/non-archetype-specific cards. For some examples: If you play Heralds, you can’t use Drytrons, and vice-versa. If you play Tri-Brigade, you can’t add another archetype like Lyrilusc. And the interesting part: you’d (potentially) be allowed to play one copy of banned archetype-specific cards, but only in that archetype. For more examples: Only Metalfoes would be able to use Electrumite. Ptomemaeus would be usable in Tellarknights again, with no access to Infinity. Sovereign Simorgh would be limited to its own archetype with no access to Apex Avian. Want to use Elpy or Agarpain? YOU’RE STUCK WITH PLAYING THE LONG-NEGLECTED MAIN DECK GUARDRAGONS (also they can’t use Abyss or Crystal Wing)! Sure they’d have to have several clauses for keeping decks pure like no True-King Dino decks, etc, but I think a format like this could have some potential. Let me know what you think.
that’ll hurt some archetypes that are designed with too much inherent weakness, too few members to make a decent deck or no real win condition that’s only regulated/elevated by hybriding with many others without being heavily diluted with hand trap and other stun/floodgate cards altering their inherent intended strategy, it would kill some archetypes designed for a toolbox types of deck and decks of more then one archetype indirectly related to one another while also assuming something can’t be a member of more then one archetype too it might sound good on the surface but its effectively just a case by case indiscriminate ceiling that can hurt some rogue or weaker archetypes and decks like hunders and umbrals just as well as the prevalent ones while also leaving soem others barely affected or unfettered too like pure prank kids, eldich and sky strikers
@@YukiFubuki. I can see where you’re coming from, and you have some good points. There would obviously need to be certain distinctions about what counts as “one archetype” since it’s admittedly pretty vague. But the main point of this proposed format is to take certain decks out of the spotlight to give other decks a chance, much like the Heart of the Underdog format would. And sure, there will inevitably be some decks that can’t make the cut, but the regular game already has that issue (Umbral Horror hasn’t been relevant in years, as far as I know). Besides, variety is the main goal with this. Plus, I think the idea of certain archetypes getting some of their banned cards back (at 1 copy) would be an interesting angle. But I’m still curious: what adjustments would you make to this format, and what deck would you use for it? Also do you have any ideas for an alternate format? Konami really blew the doors open with this idea, so let’s get the discussion going.
@@michaelnelson1127 can't really say i've any ideas, i guess probably create more retrains or new cards/support with similar effects and/or usage as the banned cards but more restrictions on usage though depending on that it might kill their actual playability too so maybe make a new sorta ban list that says certain combination of cards cannot be used together in the same decks to prevent another unholy matrimony like drytrons + heralds some cards definitely need errata's for HOPT like sky strikers for examples since they're still coming out with new sky striker supports even now in the first place i don't particular like the idea of decks of a single archetype only as its inherently stifling creativity but also because while yes its true that some archetype has lost some great cards due to other archetypes breaking them, the same thing can happen in a more positive way where some cards is pretty much honorary members in other archetype elevating them like aroma + rikka, mermail + atlantean and danger! + darkworld as some example thers also some archetype that seems to be made to inherently work together to some degree like the multiple tellarknights archetypes, steelswarm and evilswarm and then more recently the raider's being support for raidraptor, phantom knight and xyz dragons
@@YukiFubuki. Actually, yeah, a combo banlist sounds like a pretty great idea. For example, banning the use of Verte with Dragoon and DPE, or banning Ptolemaeus from going into Cyber Dragon Nova (to Infinity), or banning the use of Wind-Up Zenmaity with Wind-Up Hunter, etc. And yeah, I definitely agree on some cards needing erratas, not just HOPT ones, especially since I had a match against a Sky Striker player where they used DOUBLE WIDOW ANCHOR to steal all my monsters and kill me right after BOTH TIMES! Anyway, I’m a pretty big fan of Duel Logs’ banlist videos where he suggests erratas for some cards so that they could come off the list, and the combo banlist plus maybe a yearly errata pack could help with that.
@@michaelnelson1127 eh i think wind ups should be able to abuse their own stuff at the very least, would be pretty ironic if the very archetype themselves couldnt abuse the very mechanics they were designed for i also believe that erratas should be something akin to a last resort since traditional format can still use them but also because erratas do have a sizable track record of making some cards unplayable too, would be pretty awkward if something got errata for a different effect or restriction thinking it would be safe to unban only for it to practically never see play again and/or for something else similar to take its place changing nothing anyway blanket restrictions or rules is too indiscriminate overall as its pretty much something akin to another MR4
Two ways to use that token trap first and best way in discard and use grave effect. Second active on field when playing vs a mystic mine or any stall deck, use fox to give them 0 attack and swing for game
Fusion Recycling plant. Allows you to be able to regain fusion materials, and add polymerization to the hand with ease from both the deck and graveyard.
Betting you Konami was gonna make that Lunalight Perfume as so but realize in the last second how broken it would of been if kept like that and just put a space on it
Honestly why we dont have a Series Format (limited) structures is beyond me. Competitions use current day rules. Duelist Kingdom format from beginning up until gx release, gx release and below up to 5ds and synchro, etc etc.
2 years late to this but i think a format that archetype locks extra decks could be cool (or maybe itd be really unblalanced idk lol) but in present year you see all decks make the same maybe 15 monsters
Okay, i am dead sure i will get flag for this, but i want to say it (as a Collector and non-competetive Player): From my perspective, i have come to the Understanding that the Banlist would not be even HALF as long, if the "Pros" would stop splashing. Yes, i think that the very thing you Nova are explaining at the End of each "Explained" Video, is the very thing that grinded Delila´s Gears in this Appearence. Even something like Halqifibrax could be heavily neutered if Players kept their Decks "pure" in an Archetypel Sense. At least, that is what i think
You would definitely be right in a sense but I would argue that(as a similarly noncomp player) that cards being splashed into decks and improving decks they werent intended for is rather a monument to players creativity and to remove that for the sake of a smaller banlist would remove one of the reasons I utterly love Yugioh. Any card could be worked into a future deck. Is there the argument Konamk should focus on banning archetypical power cards, like Drytron Beta Fafnir, rather than tech cards like Cyber Angel Benten or Eva? Yeah you could make that point. I would also ask you about a card like Eva that doesnt have an archetype, and is generic Fairy support. Would by your preferred playstyle it's not allowed because it isnt a Drytron or does it get a pass because its generic? Legitimately interested in a conversation cuz I personally never cared for the banlist size, just that actual changes are made.
@@TheWizardMus I checked Eva, and to me it is a generic Card, comparable to ROTA, and in my proposal, i would allow it. I also believe, that if a more "pure" Deckbuildingstyle became the Norm, Konami would start giving most if not all Archetypes an Name-based Version of "Reinforcements". Atleast that is what i gather from the Fact that they give already a lot of Archetype-Copies of generic Cards to most Archetypes. Like, most if not all Fusion-based Archetypes have their own, specific Version of Polymerisation, most Times with even more Power. About the Creativity Aspect, i can not really say anything to that, because i could never bring myself to do that. Like the Example in the Video with Tiger & Zoodiacs, if i would play Zoodiacs in Tournaments, i would not have put Tiger in my Deck. If where in a Situation where i either had the Option to "splash" the perfect Card for my Strategy from a different Archetype, or include a generic Card that gives me less then half the Benefits, i would choose the Generic Card for my Deck. But that is a me thing, i get that most Peops dont think like that. Edit: Also, maybe Konami could bring a Tournament Format like this as a side-gig to Locals, since they seem to be in an experimental Mood recently. Maybe calling it "Arch Duelist" or something
So if I my lunalight fusion on the field then use lunalight blue cat skill to double the attack then use lunalight cat dancers skill to destroy it and let it attack twice per monster and then use blue cat skill to special summon it back and do this all over again?
Hold on. With reincarnation dance, can't you pop your own monsters to get the trap off? It doesn't say that your opponent has to pop your monsters after all?
we need a format like how pokemon organizes things. where they just have an inherent power level they want that's lower than the top tier format. and ban any card that sees extensive play in the competitive format. So in a hypothetical UU format, Drytron, Invoked, etc would all be banned. but decks like altergeist wouldnt. individual cards like Ash Blosom might get banned since they wont be needed to hold back the inherently broken Tier 1 decks, BUT, that might be needed more for a RU format
I don't know if it has a lore relevance or whatnot BUT on the Lunalight serenade dancer card, the shadow is not correct. And know you have to see it too.
It's still dumb that some of the Fusion Searchers can't search Lunalight Fusion. I know that came out later, but it's still dumb Black Sheep and co. weren't errata'd so you don't have to play Poly in a Deck that has its own Archetypal Poly.
Honestly I think it’s almost a crime that Lunalight’s don’t have a field spell that’s a stage for them to preform on, it could possibly be a field spell that would allow their performances to go without a hitch such as not allowing your opponents cards to activate during the battle phase.

As a New player, I couldn't agree more with Delilah. I'm a casual player and don't really care about climbing the ranks in Duel. I only care cause it's the only way to get gems. As such, by them lowering the rank of all players each season, you have Noobs going up against Elite players, and I'll tell ya, when you fight a Pacifis Deck, Get Curve Stomped by a token, and get KOed by MAXX "C", You have a clear change in skill floor. Seriously. F that guy.
I like the argument from Delilah's Diatribe, but the problem is that unlike most of the other examples she used (brilliant fusion, benten, and jet synchron), lunalight tiger wasn't the only card of the archetype being abused, nor was it orcust that got it banned. Lunalight was a meta deck just before covid at the start of 2020 going against spyral, and the deck was using about half the main deck support for the archetype to do what it was doing. Sure it wasn't fusion summoning, but it did really represent the archetype well enough to get it banned without the orcust or phantom knight lines that really brought attention to the archetype in the first place. Also, as someone who played the deck before the newer waves of support like yellow marten and the like, I never really felt that tiger was really that needed ever since you have chick to climb, rabbit to reborn when needed, and wolf to get the double fusion going, and I could imagine it would be even easier with consistency tools like emerald bird. (of course this is all being said with the fact of the new banlist at this point with tiger back to 1, but still not the point. I really do like the video by the way, keep up the good work)
I recently started playing yugioh on behest of a friend of mine, but his lunalights drive me up a wall. I feel like im playing a one turn puzzle to perfectly counter a 7000 attack, doublehit OTK on the second turn. I have no idea how im even supossed to start playing against them.

We know by data mining that a beginner format is coming soon so that might be the answer, but the TCG needs a Way to create tiers, analogous to MMA weight categories, that way more people can enjoy playing and watching the game.
What I do in my club is build decks that are fairly even in power, based on testing, and only use those decks in random duels. Honestly we live this format. That and drafting cubes.

I advice anyone here who loves Lunalight to read the TCG Event Coverage of Raphael Neven VS Arnold Nadaban, for Chicago in 2019. For me, this guy is the ultimate proof that you CAN win with underrepresented decks, if you work hard and smart, study the meta, and find the strongest strategies that fit into your deck. And you know what's best ? He didn't simply use Lunalight as an engine, he actually played the fusion component because of its high OTK power.
First game Neven started second and ended up with a 4 cards hand against a Summon Sorceress, two Colossus, Hot Red Dragon Archfiend Abyss and Zombiestein, and he managed to dismantle the threats little by little while getting the pieces to one shot with Leo Dancer. I usually don't read a lot of tournament coverage but that blew my mind.

Lunalight remains one of the strongests easy to learn beatdown fusion decks. It's my main deck ever since their release and I will never get tired of OTK'ing my opponents with Double Leo Dancer boosted by Number 60.
Here's a fun tech pick for lunalights: Secrets of the Guardians. A very OP equip spell if you know how to use it. Since both Cat and Panther Dance can attack everything twice this card would be amazing for those 2. As on each attack it gains a spell counter, and each counter gives them 500 ATK/DEF, It's not a once per turn, it can prevent both its own destruction, and the monsters, by giving up just 1 counter, and all together turns any multi-attacker into a power creep fiend.
This card worked amazingly well in my Ben'Kei deck.

Because they technically can attack each monster twice, that's 1000 per target. Mean with just one PotG by the end of the BP that +5000. And if they have 2 that's 10000. However you put it lunalights with PotG is a nightmare.

I ABSOLUTELY agree with Delilah. I absolutely hate heheh archetypes good cards get abused by the meta, I don’t care if those good cards don’t make the archetype itself the most meta just them having it is good enough. This also does some terrible stuff for decks like Hero, my main deck, with Mali however in a different way. Because Mali was abused all the time by the meta Konami has gotten to a point where they make hero support WAY TOO FAIR even though they don’t need to. Malicious bane is cool but he can just be spun back to the deck, has a conditional rageki that isn’t even a quick effect and DPE while strong can just be DD crow’d or called by in the grave to stop it entirely, the vision hero cards are too fair which is why Faris, Vyon, and Increase are the only ones used. Mali by itself literally handicapped an entire archetype into not getting what it truly needs to be meta by itself. Also let’s not talk about how Fusion destiny is so easy to just splash into other decks which makes me think Konami outright meant for it to be abused by other decks so it can hurt all hero players when it gets banned from all formats
Personally this is why I am in favor of erratas just give malicious a only summon heroes for the rest of the turn and no more dark warrior combo abuse. Just lock adamancipators into rocks for rest of the turn and with that block dragon could come back

I know people hate Erratas but if a card like Mali is so strong and abusable by other decks to the point they just start making new hero cards extremely fair then I’ll take an Errata locking you into only hero monsters for the rest of the turn so it can only be abused by hero decks themselves
@@streetgamer3452 If adamancipators locked you into only rocks or even if block dragon locked you into Rocks for the rest of your turn not only would it encourage people to actually use the archtype boss monsters a bunch of banned cards can get away even without a hard once per turn by just errata to archtype. Though there are some erratas of locking that are pretty useless if you don't want them to be abused like only earth, only dark or only light.
Dang does this bring back some old memories.... nowadays this is one of my fave middle tier decks in terms of consistency and dang do I love it. Also great job as always Nova!
It’s interesting to note that in Common Charity format, Lunalight is dangerously close to Tier 0. Most Common Charity players play by the TCG Advanced format banlist in addition to the Common-only restriction. This means that if Tiger was ever unbanned, Common Charity would probably become a T0 format with Lunalight sitting squarely on top. At least, unless CC gets its own banlist, which would be awesome to have.

Lunalights are one of my favorite archetypes because of their OTK possibilities and their artwork. I do hope Tiger does come of the banlist to make Lunalights even greater.
Lunalight is my absolute favourite Archetype and i hate it that Tiger got taken from us because of meta bullshit-abuse for material spam. Because Tiger is legal in the OCG i don't have much hope but to get it back in the TCG, Tiger would need some kind of restriction to either lock you into beast-warrior or even lunalight-monsters after using the revival effect.

I absolutely love Lunalights, I just 4 months ago learned how to play Yu-Gi-Oh and I instantly latched onto a pure Lunalight deck. It easily got me to Gold 1 rank on master duel and after a bit of practice I reached through to Platinum 3 before the season ended resetting me at Gold 5
Oh just started up playing again through master duel and Lunalights were the archetype that I managed to pull the rarest cards for and I'm excited to try mixing the other cards mentioned in the video!
It's the funnest thing ever!

I hate that so much when that happens.
Now so many decks cant function or even exist because Konami didn't future proof their cards to new mechanics, or properly restricting NEW Archetype effects to prevent them from abusing unrelated cards, made links way to generic for having such strong effects, and instead of punishing the over powered meta decks with the Ban List, they instead punish the cards being abused by said decks , severally gimping the decks that needed those archetypal cards to function properly IF AT ALL while the Meta decks just move on to the next most abusable cards to keep doing what they want regardless of what decks they hurt just so they can WIN harder!
Atleast until Konami wants to push its next big cash grab by nuking the current meta decks, but neglect to lift the earlier bans caused by the those rampant decks, as the players of said decks just dump them for the next Most Meta thing that gets them as close to a game of Solitaire as possible. (Cause thats the competitive environment Konami created...)

Hilarious enough that Master Duel has Benten and jet synchron unlimited and brilliant fusion at one. Also maxx C is unlimited so that going to be fun to mess with.
Not to mention that Lunalight Tiger and Fire Formation - Tenki are both at 3.
Of course, that's mostly because Master Duel is primarily based on an older version of the OCG Banlist, where Tiger has never been on the Forbidden/Limited list. The deck is pretty well kept in check by Maxx "C"

Lunalight Tiger: What happens when you forgot HOPT or archetype lock.
Kaleido chick is like one of the key cards I use in trying to get 2 Leo Dancers out if I have wolf in my hand and 2 other lunalight monster and lunalight fusion or polymerization by sending panther to the grave with kaledio effect then fusion kaleido with 2 other luna light monsters to bring out Leo then set wold in pendulum zone and banish the material and bring out another Leo. Of course my favorite combos usualy incluse primarily perfume and Serenade dance graveyard effect. I just had a game where I was abled to bring out 2 Leo 1 Saber 1 cat geting a OTK with that broken combo.
EDIT: also Necro fusion is alot of fun to include in a deck in just one even tho its a slow trap it tends to catch your opponent by surprise when you bring out your boss monster suddenly also can be good at cheezing out a double leo
This is my favorite archetype in the franchise (mainly because they're a Sailor Moon homage) and I've been playing them in Master Duels. Thank you so much for talking about the Lunalights!

You could also use Zoodiacs in the Extra Deck to go into Zeus with 6 materials as long as you end on Boarbow and attack directly for 0, you get Zeus with 2 Lunalights, Hammerkong, Chakanine, Tiger Mortar, Boarbow. Pretty much stops your opponents from having a turn.

I would say it's not coz of Tenki, Tenki barely makes up for those limits. It's that Lunas used to be played with Boxer Veil that Bird and Marten got hit. With Fox I heard it was coz other decks abused her effect.
Got Lunas just before the last limit and was so pissed (didn't even got Veil) that I saved up to buy Harpies. Only recently did I got the Tenkis to finally play Lunas properly.

So about that whole "Tiger's not coming off the forbidden list" thing...
I completely agree with Delilah. There are so many archetypes that lost great cards because some other deck borrowed it and wrecked house. If Konami is going through with the alternate formats, I have a suggestion for one: a “pure-archetype” format. Basically, you classify your deck as one archetype, and you can’t use any cards that support and/or are a part of another archetype, though you can still use generic/non-archetype-specific cards. For some examples: If you play Heralds, you can’t use Drytrons, and vice-versa. If you play Tri-Brigade, you can’t add another archetype like Lyrilusc.
And the interesting part: you’d (potentially) be allowed to play one copy of banned archetype-specific cards, but only in that archetype. For more examples: Only Metalfoes would be able to use Electrumite. Ptomemaeus would be usable in Tellarknights again, with no access to Infinity. Sovereign Simorgh would be limited to its own archetype with no access to Apex Avian. Want to use Elpy or Agarpain? YOU’RE STUCK WITH PLAYING THE LONG-NEGLECTED MAIN DECK GUARDRAGONS (also they can’t use Abyss or Crystal Wing)!
Sure they’d have to have several clauses for keeping decks pure like no True-King Dino decks, etc, but I think a format like this could have some potential. Let me know what you think.
that’ll hurt some archetypes that are designed with too much inherent weakness, too few members to make a decent deck or no real win condition that’s only regulated/elevated by hybriding with many others without being heavily diluted with hand trap and other stun/floodgate cards altering their inherent intended strategy, it would kill some archetypes designed for a toolbox types of deck and decks of more then one archetype indirectly related to one another while also assuming something can’t be a member of more then one archetype too
it might sound good on the surface but its effectively just a case by case indiscriminate ceiling that can hurt some rogue or weaker archetypes and decks like hunders and umbrals just as well as the prevalent ones while also leaving soem others barely affected or unfettered too like pure prank kids, eldich and sky strikers
@@YukiFubuki. I can see where you’re coming from, and you have some good points. There would obviously need to be certain distinctions about what counts as “one archetype” since it’s admittedly pretty vague. But the main point of this proposed format is to take certain decks out of the spotlight to give other decks a chance, much like the Heart of the Underdog format would. And sure, there will inevitably be some decks that can’t make the cut, but the regular game already has that issue (Umbral Horror hasn’t been relevant in years, as far as I know). Besides, variety is the main goal with this. Plus, I think the idea of certain archetypes getting some of their banned cards back (at 1 copy) would be an interesting angle.
But I’m still curious: what adjustments would you make to this format, and what deck would you use for it? Also do you have any ideas for an alternate format? Konami really blew the doors open with this idea, so let’s get the discussion going.
@@michaelnelson1127 can't really say i've any ideas, i guess probably create more retrains or new cards/support with similar effects and/or usage as the banned cards but more restrictions on usage though depending on that it might kill their actual playability too so maybe make a new sorta ban list that says certain combination of cards cannot be used together in the same decks to prevent another unholy matrimony like drytrons + heralds
some cards definitely need errata's for HOPT like sky strikers for examples since they're still coming out with new sky striker supports even now
in the first place i don't particular like the idea of decks of a single archetype only as its inherently stifling creativity but also because while yes its true that some archetype has lost some great cards due to other archetypes breaking them, the same thing can happen in a more positive way where some cards is pretty much honorary members in other archetype elevating them like aroma + rikka, mermail + atlantean and danger! + darkworld as some example
thers also some archetype that seems to be made to inherently work together to some degree like the multiple tellarknights archetypes, steelswarm and evilswarm and then more recently the raider's being support for raidraptor, phantom knight and xyz dragons
@@YukiFubuki. Actually, yeah, a combo banlist sounds like a pretty great idea. For example, banning the use of Verte with Dragoon and DPE, or banning Ptolemaeus from going into Cyber Dragon Nova (to Infinity), or banning the use of Wind-Up Zenmaity with Wind-Up Hunter, etc. And yeah, I definitely agree on some cards needing erratas, not just HOPT ones, especially since I had a match against a Sky Striker player where they used DOUBLE WIDOW ANCHOR to steal all my monsters and kill me right after BOTH TIMES! Anyway, I’m a pretty big fan of Duel Logs’ banlist videos where he suggests erratas for some cards so that they could come off the list, and the combo banlist plus maybe a yearly errata pack could help with that.

anyway blanket restrictions or rules is too indiscriminate overall as its pretty much something akin to another MR4
Two ways to use that token trap first and best way in discard and use grave effect. Second active on field when playing vs a mystic mine or any stall deck, use fox to give them 0 attack and swing for game

Honestly why we dont have a Series Format (limited) structures is beyond me.
Competitions use current day rules. Duelist Kingdom format from beginning up until gx release, gx release and below up to 5ds and synchro, etc etc.

Okay, i am dead sure i will get flag for this, but i want to say it (as a Collector and non-competetive Player): From my perspective, i have come to the Understanding that the Banlist would not be even HALF as long, if the "Pros" would stop splashing. Yes, i think that the very thing you Nova are explaining at the End of each "Explained" Video, is the very thing that grinded Delila´s Gears in this Appearence. Even something like Halqifibrax could be heavily neutered if Players kept their Decks "pure" in an Archetypel Sense. At least, that is what i think
You would definitely be right in a sense but I would argue that(as a similarly noncomp player) that cards being splashed into decks and improving decks they werent intended for is rather a monument to players creativity and to remove that for the sake of a smaller banlist would remove one of the reasons I utterly love Yugioh. Any card could be worked into a future deck. Is there the argument Konamk should focus on banning archetypical power cards, like Drytron Beta Fafnir, rather than tech cards like Cyber Angel Benten or Eva? Yeah you could make that point. I would also ask you about a card like Eva that doesnt have an archetype, and is generic Fairy support. Would by your preferred playstyle it's not allowed because it isnt a Drytron or does it get a pass because its generic? Legitimately interested in a conversation cuz I personally never cared for the banlist size, just that actual changes are made.
@@TheWizardMus I checked Eva, and to me it is a generic Card, comparable to ROTA, and in my proposal, i would allow it. I also believe, that if a more "pure" Deckbuildingstyle became the Norm, Konami would start giving most if not all Archetypes an Name-based Version of "Reinforcements". Atleast that is what i gather from the Fact that they give already a lot of Archetype-Copies of generic Cards to most Archetypes. Like, most if not all Fusion-based Archetypes have their own, specific Version of Polymerisation, most Times with even more Power.
About the Creativity Aspect, i can not really say anything to that, because i could never bring myself to do that. Like the Example in the Video with Tiger & Zoodiacs, if i would play Zoodiacs in Tournaments, i would not have put Tiger in my Deck. If where in a Situation where i either had the Option to "splash" the perfect Card for my Strategy from a different Archetype, or include a generic Card that gives me less then half the Benefits, i would choose the Generic Card for my Deck. But that is a me thing, i get that most Peops dont think like that.
Edit: Also, maybe Konami could bring a Tournament Format like this as a side-gig to Locals, since they seem to be in an experimental Mood recently. Maybe calling it "Arch Duelist" or something

we need a format like how pokemon organizes things. where they just have an inherent power level they want that's lower than the top tier format. and ban any card that sees extensive play in the competitive format. So in a hypothetical UU format, Drytron, Invoked, etc would all be banned. but decks like altergeist wouldnt. individual cards like Ash Blosom might get banned since they wont be needed to hold back the inherently broken Tier 1 decks, BUT, that might be needed more for a RU format

It's still dumb that some of the Fusion Searchers can't search Lunalight Fusion. I know that came out later, but it's still dumb Black Sheep and co. weren't errata'd so you don't have to play Poly in a Deck that has its own Archetypal Poly.

Honestly I think it’s almost a crime that Lunalight’s don’t have a field spell that’s a stage for them to preform on, it could possibly be a field spell that would allow their performances to go without a hitch such as not allowing your opponents cards to activate during the battle phase.
Errata tiger to limit extra deck after activation to luna light or winged beast. Easy.

As a New player, I couldn't agree more with Delilah.
I'm a casual player and don't really care about climbing the ranks in Duel. I only care cause it's the only way to get gems.
As such, by them lowering the rank of all players each season, you have Noobs going up against Elite players, and I'll tell ya, when you fight a Pacifis Deck, Get Curve Stomped by a token, and get KOed by MAXX "C", You have a clear change in skill floor.

I like the argument from Delilah's Diatribe, but the problem is that unlike most of the other examples she used (brilliant fusion, benten, and jet synchron), lunalight tiger wasn't the only card of the archetype being abused, nor was it orcust that got it banned. Lunalight was a meta deck just before covid at the start of 2020 going against spyral, and the deck was using about half the main deck support for the archetype to do what it was doing. Sure it wasn't fusion summoning, but it did really represent the archetype well enough to get it banned without the orcust or phantom knight lines that really brought attention to the archetype in the first place. Also, as someone who played the deck before the newer waves of support like yellow marten and the like, I never really felt that tiger was really that needed ever since you have chick to climb, rabbit to reborn when needed, and wolf to get the double fusion going, and I could imagine it would be even easier with consistency tools like emerald bird. (of course this is all being said with the fact of the new banlist at this point with tiger back to 1, but still not the point. I really do like the video by the way, keep up the good work)
Can we get a D/D/D video?
I recently started playing yugioh on behest of a friend of mine, but his lunalights drive me up a wall. I feel like im playing a one turn puzzle to perfectly counter a 7000 attack, doublehit OTK on the second turn. I have no idea how im even supossed to start playing against them.
